A Bandra birdie chirps about the curious case of casting Saqib Saleem for Race 3. Though there were several names tossed around, the actor was apparently selected thanks to sister Huma Qureshi’s proximity to the Khandaan.

She is a regular at Galaxy Apartments and at bashes hosted by Sallu and his sisters. The Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013) actor is looking at being part of a top grosser and the Race franchise might give him the much-needed push.

Sonam Kapoor and Huma Qureshi have come out in support of designer Masaba Gupta, who has been trolled and been called names like ‘B*****d child’ or ‘illegitimate West Indian’ for supporting the ban on firecrackers. Masaba responded to the trolls by saying that she is a product of two legitimate personalities and is a proud Indo-Caribbean girl.

Masaba — the daughter of actress Neena Gupta and cricket legend Vivian Richards — on Wednesday, took to her Instagram to share an open letter. She wrote, “Recently, I re-tweeted in support of the firecracker ban by the Supreme Court and like every other issue in this country, big or small… The trolling and bashing began.”

“By calling me names like ‘B*****d child’ or ‘illegitimate West Indian’ only makes my chest swell with pride. I’m the illegitimate product of two of the most legitimate personalities you’ll find and I’ve made the best life, both personally and professionally… Out of which I am proud of,” she wrote.

The designer added that she is “immune” to this as she has been called these names since she was 10. “My legitimacy comes from the work I do and what my contribution to society has been. And you can try but you will not be able to raise a single finger on either of the two,” she added.

Masaba also says she is proud of her roots. “So, please if you must…go ahead and continue calling me these names if it makes you feel glorious. But know this… I am a proud Indo-Caribbean girl who doesn’t know how to shrink and crumble in shame of something you or your society cannot handle. It’s just in my ‘illegitimate’ genes,” she said.

Here’s what Masaba Gupta posted:

Huma QureshiHuma Qureshi

Huma Qureshi is known to keep her distance from the media. Perhaps to avoid some unwanted, sticky questions.

So it came as a surprise to see her personally call media folk for the screening of Partition: 1947. When a film is releasing, stars do anything and everything.

As part of her audition for Gurinder Chadha’s film, Partition 1947, Huma Qureshi had to enact a scene of drying clothes. Huma made a video and sent it across to the filmmaker in London. Just one glimpse of Huma was enough for Chadha to cast her in the film.

Those who thought drying clothes was a mundane task, better know that it may sometimes also land you a film.

Can a haunted mirror make you see what it wants? Can a haunted mirror ruin someone’s childhood and continue to haunt them forever? ‘Dobaara- See Your Evil’, starring Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem, tries to answer this question. The film is a Hindi remake of the 2013 English horror flick ‘Oculus’, which is considered to be one of the better modern horror films.

Bollywood is yet to find its foothold, in terms of making a good quality horror movie. Directors might know the recipe to make a 100 crore hit, but they still haven’t found the right way to direct a film that will scare the hell out of you, make you bite your nails and make your scream. Even RGV gave up after trying his hand at this genre.

Director Prawaal Raman (who also made ‘Darna Mana Hai’) is all set to haunt us with his upcoming film ‘Dobaara’. The movie, also stars Lisa Ray, Adil Hussain, Rhea Chakraborty and Madalina Bellariu Ion, and is scheduled to be released on the 2nd of June.

This film is the said to be a remake, but of course for us, a remake or adaptation in Bollywood means – Cut + Copy + Paste, but with a pinch of intimate scenes, for good measure.

‘Oculus’ was a nifty little horror film that was highly graphic and told a tight, focused story. Watch the trailer here:

The story of the film revolves around two siblings and how their lives have been destroyed because of a haunted mirror. The duo in the film tries to unlock the mystery behind the death of their parents and several other people that involve this mirror. They try to destroy the mirror, but it has other plans.

The trailer of ‘Dobaara’ is an exact frame-to-frame copy of the original. Well, let’s hope that the film can scare the crap out of us, just like ‘Oculus’ did.

Huma Qureshi

New Delhi: In nearly five-year long career she has mostly done multi-starrers but Huma Qureshi says she doesn’t regret being part of the ensemble cast as no one offered the actress custom-made roles and it’s her hardwork that helped her make a mark in Bollywood.

The 30-year-old star debuted in 2012 with “Gangs of Wasseypur” and went on to appear in films like “Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana”, “D-Day”, “Dedh Ishqiya”, “Ek Thi Daayan” and “Badlapur”.

“There was no plan really. Till ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ every film that I have done, I’d auditioned for it. And I say it very proudly because I feel that I’ve earned it. It wasn’t designed for me or it wasn’t planned for me. No one decided to launch me,” Huma told PTI.

“I’ve worked at it. I am from Delhi I’ve done theatre and I’ve come up that way so I’m very proud of the fact that there’s a growth in my career and that at least I’m not going in minus,” she added.

Huma is now all set to foray into Hollywood with Gurinder Chadha’s “The Viceroy’s House” and the actress is all praise for her Indian-origin English film director.

“I’m very excited to work with Gurinder. It’s a very beautiful film and Gurinder is known for this very interesting British-Indo way of looking at things.

“I was very excited to work for this project because first of all she (Gurinder) is a woman and she is British then she is Indian and Punjabi and she was going to make a film on partition.”

The movie is a love story between a Muslim girl and a Hindu boy and also stars Manish Dayal, Hugh Bonneville and Gillian Anderson.

Though she is happy to sign her first ever international project, Huma says “she has not said yes to the movie just because it is Hollywood”. The actress says it was the story which prompted her to get on board.

“For me whether it’s English or any other language it doesn’t really matter. You should be excited about your role, you should be excited about what you are doing. You should not do an English movie just because everyone is doing an English film. That’s kind a little sad.

“If this film was made in Hindi or Tamil or Telegu, I would have still done it.” The actress is currently seen in Akshay Kumar-starrer “Jolly LLB 2”. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the movie is a sequel to the 2013 film.

Lately, Huma Qureshi has been in a mood to sting at most media interactions. Presumably, it’s because she is either asked about her buxom body or her rumoured link-up with Sohail Khan. Her ‘Jolly LLB’ co-star Akshay Kumar often intervenes to crack a joke and lighten the mood, but to most, she’s snapped and said, “Read my Twitter account.” A year ago, she had famously tweeted about how Sohail is like an elder brother. That’s the official account and she is sticking to it.
