Vaani Kapoor with TV actress Sara Arfeen Khan at her Versova residence

We haven’t seen much of Vaani Kapoor after the utterly forgettable Befikre (2016). So it was quite a pleasant surprise to spot the leggy lass at a recent bash thrown by popular TV actress Sara Arfeen Khan at her Versova residence.

Turns out, Vaani and the ‘Siya Ke Ram’ actress have known each other for sometime now and the post-Eid bash turned out to be the perfect opportunity for the two girls to catch up. Vaani looked pretty in a traditional pink ensemble. As for those rumours about her lip job and chin surgery, well, see the picture and judge for yourself.

We look up to leaders for sanity. The lack of it only empowers the wrongdoerWe look up to leaders for sanity. The lack of it only empowers the wrongdoer

Here’s the thing with protests. It’s not that people don’t. They do. Very often. And that’s the hallmark of a democracy anyway. But if you look closely, on a more regular basis, whenever there is a ‘dharna’ or protest march, the faces that show up, are the usual suspects — who either have an agenda (legit or otherwise). Or are more specifically inclined towards issues being raised on a public platform.

What was incredibly heartening for me about the nationwide series of peaceful public protests that took place across India and outside, on June 28, was that it wasn’t about people from a certain religion, caste, economic strata, or community, hitting the street, to make their voices heard, and simply say #NotInMyName. It was a spontaneous call. It echoed absolutely everyone’s sentiment. I wish I could’ve been there. I was travelling, unfortunately.

Sure, every democracy has its issues. But there comes a moment — as it happened with Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption rally in 2010, or ‘Nirbhaya’ in 2012 — when everyone feels that their backs are against the wall and things have genuinely spun out of control. That they must speak up. It’s at a time like this when the political classes at the upper echelons, usually silent, are forced to take notice. As did the Prime Minister, who made it clear that a lynch-mob, or vigilante justice, is not Mahatma Gandhi’s chosen path or method. And it certainly does not signify a Hindu way of life.

We look up to leaders for voice of sanity. The lack of it only empowers the wrongdoer. But even beyond that, we look up to this nation’s judiciary that somehow ought to cease power from vigilantes. We can’t have laws slipping into the hands of a retributive mob, or self-styled ‘gau rakshaks’, simply because our criminal-justice system is long and unwieldy.

For a second, just imagine that beef is found on a person. Forget that there are rumours that he may be carrying some. He has it. So what? We will kill him? No sane person will think so. Most regular humans understand that a plural, multi-cultural, diverse society is beneficial for everyone. But there are some who are brainwashed to think differently from the rest — from a very early age. They may never understand rational arguments. It’s hard to reason with them.

How does the society respond to them? What happens to a boy who’s killed as a result? Who’s answerable for the death of the innocent? What action does the state take against that killer? These are equally if not more important questions.

For long, everyone kept quiet assuming beef to be such a sensitive issue. But people are dying –being killed. There is systematic targeting that’s tearing up the basic fabric of this country. The prospects are frightening. As a commentator I recently pointed out, it takes just one twisted mind from the other end of the spectrum to take advantage of a ripe situation like this, and retaliate. It would be labeled as terrorism. Who wants that? Where do we go from there?

It’s a shame that things have come to this. But heartening still that people from all walks of life chose to step out of their homes on June 28, stand up together in public, raise their voice, and say that this is not what my nation, or my religion, teaches me. Silence, at a time like this, only benefits those who perpetrate crimes under a community’s name. Nope, #NotInMyName. Not anymore.

Vivek Oberoi plays Vikrant Dhawan, a character allegedly inspired by former IPLâÂÂ?ÂÂ?chairman Lalit Modi (inset)

With the Virat Kohli-Anil Kumble war out in the open, Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani’s upcoming web series around a cricket premier league couldn’t have been better timed. Inside Edge is expected to strip the veneer off India’s favourite sport and its heroes to reveal the dark underbelly characterised by manipulation, corruption and power games.

THE BCCI, the national governing body for cricket in India, is allegedly concerned with how the game, and its governance is portrayed. An episode surrounding a powerful character, that sources say is fashioned around Lalit Modi, founder chairman and administrator of IPL, is of particular interest to them.

Farhan AkhtarFarhan Akhtar

In 2010, Congress minister Shashi Tharoor resigned after allegations of improper influence during the investigations carried out by tax authorities to probe the IPL valued at $4.1 billion. Following this, Modi was suspended by the BCCI after the final match of the 2010 series, saying, he had “brought a bad name to the administration of cricket and the game itself”.

Insiders claim the producers may be looking at collaborating with the BCCI, especially since they need cricket footage for Season 2. A potential tie-up could translate into the governing body promoting the show via its official social media platforms.

Even as the producers refused to comment, production unit hand, on condition of anonymity, said, “The show couldn’t have come at a better time. It will serve as a mirror to the way cricket is administered. The show looks at ego clashes, the power struggle between team members and spot fixing. BCCI is keen that certain portions are toned down, and in return, might help with necessary permissions for Season 2.”

Actor Vivek Oberoi, who plays Vikrant Dhawan, who is allegedly inspired by Modi, had said in an earlier interview, “For Vikrant Dhawan, power is a drug. He is a mastermind, a puppeteer. This is a world far removed from the normal one. The world [portrayed in the show] is real, the people are fictional. Dhawan’s world revolves around match fixing. You get to see how it actually happens. It’s about how a bet is placed and how it affects every level [of stakeholders], from rookies to teams.” BCCI did not respond to an email sent by mid-day.

Anil Kapoor with Arjun KapoorAnil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor

Actor-producer Anil Kapoor felt that Arjun Kapoor should do their forthcoming film ‘Mubarakan’ as he believes that the young actor,
also his nephew, has the capability to pull off such difficult roles. Arjun will be seen in a double role in ‘Mubarakan’, which also stars Anil.

“When I first heard the script, I strongly felt that Arjun Kapoor should do this film. I felt he is the right actor for this script. I picked up the phone and asked him to hear the subject once and take a decision himself. He has the capability to pull off such difficult roles and I’m happy that after listening to the script he decided to do this film,” Anil Kapoor said in a statement.

‘Mubarakan’ also starring Ileana D’cruz and Athiya Shetty is produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Ashwin Varde and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios and is slated to have its worldwide release on July 28.

She is stunning and gorgeous, no doubt. Bollywood loves her and fans just can’t get enough of her. Deepika Padukone is ruling B-town and there is not a soul who doesn’t love this dusky beauty.

With every film, she keeps getting better and now she is gearing up to entertain us in a royal avatar. This year so far, she has starred in no Bollywood films but it was a special year for her as she made her Hollywood debut with ‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’. The film grabbed everyone’s attention as she starred alongside Vin Diesel. Yeah, that’s definitely something!

But, to play that role wasn’t an easy task. From learning combat skills to following a fixed workout schedule, the actress did everything to get Serene Unger’s character right.

Deepika’s body is something that many have been crushing on. Well, what can one say she as she is is slender yet curvaceous! However, getting that perfectly toned body ain’t no cakewalk as you got to sweat it out to get that look.

Also, just last week when  director D.J. Caruso was asked if there are chances that Deepika will be seen in the fourth instalment, he said, “Oh yes”. That’s indeed good news, so let’s hope things fall into place and we hear an official announcement about the same.

Deepika is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film ‘Padmavati’. The film is scheduled to hit theatres this year and we can’t wait to see her on-screen.

The new trailer of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ is out and it is filled with Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma’s nok-jhok. This 36-second video is all about Anushka’s cuteness and you can’t help but smile looking at the duo on-screen.

“Mera naam hai Sejal! Sejal ka matlab pata hai?” In the entire trailer, Sejal is trying to explain the meaning of her name time and again to Harry using hand gestures.

Harry imitates her at times but is disinterested in making small talk. He stops her by saying, “Matlab bilkul zaruri nahi hain. Sachi. Main Sejal se chala lunga,”

The clip also shows us the two trying to find something, linking it to the previous clip; we suspect they are looking for Sejal’s ring.

Every mini trailer released till now has left us in splits and it’s obvious that the fourth one had to be good too. Anushka is utterly endearing to watch. But somewhere this latest mini trailer she does not seem as engaging as the previous ones.

Since the start the filmmakers have introduced us to these two characters by giving us a sneak peek into their lives. We were introduced to the cheap Harry who addresses his character as ‘kharaab’, while Sejal is innocent, smart and charming.

This is the third time SRK and Anushka have been paired together after ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. It feels refreshing to watch them on-screen again and it goes without saying that their chemistry is spot on. Their previous movies have done wonders at the box office, giving high hopes to the makers of this film as well.

It’s no doubt many are looking forward to watching this film. Get ready to watch their cute banter on August 4th.

Salman revealed that he will be shooting for ‘Dabangg 3′ while shooting for other films. The actor is busy for the next two-years which means you get to see more of Salman on-screen.

“The script of ‘Dabangg 3′ is ready. It’s going to start during ‘Bharat’, which is Atul and Alvira’s (Agnihotri) film, which Ali Abbas Zafar is directing. That starts after Remo’s film. Atul’s film requires some gaps. So between the schedules for Atul’s film, I will shoot for ‘Dabangg 3′,” revealed Salman to DNA.

Since ‘Dabangg’ released in 2010 it received an overwhelming response from the audience. Chulbhul Pandey’s witty and Ronbinhood avatar left everyone stunned, making it a big hit at the box office. So when they announced the sequel to the film that was released in 2012, it just gave everyone a reason to rejoice. Since then everyone is looking out for the third part. The latest installment of the film will mostly highlight Chulbul’s life before he becomes Robinhood. Well, that’s indeed an interesting take after all every Dabangg fan would love to his story.

However, this part won’t be directed by Arbaaz Khan. “He gets very hyper so we asked him to chill and take rest. He will produce the film this time,” Salman added.

The trailer of Huma Qureshi starrer ‘Partition 1947′ is finally out and we have got to say that it is as captivating and gripping as a film can get.

Director, Gurinder Chadha, who is known for directing hits such as ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ and ‘Bride and Prejudice’ is all set to release her new project which is also known as ‘Viceroy House’. The film revolves around the transition of British India to Independence when the last Viceroy of India Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville) was in office.

The two and half minute video gives you a glimpse of various events and things that happened behind the closed door. You see Lord Mountbatten in conversation with Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Between all the politics and tension there is also a love story brewing between Aalia (Huma Qureshi) who falls in love with a Hindu man but are separated as the country is divided.

The trailer brilliantly shines a light on the conflict that started between Hindus and Muslims and how Mountbatten was forced to draw the border and divide the nation which he wasn’t in favour of. The makers of the film very smartly gives us a small sneak peek into what went behind Mountbatten’s back and how things were politically plotted without his knowledge. Now wouldn’t we really want to see this version of history as well?

The film shows us an alternative history of partition and what happened when the British Raj came to an end, making sure that you are hooked to every frame. By the end of the trailer, you are sure that this is one of those films that you just can’t miss.

The film also stars late veteran actor Om Puri who plays a blind man, Manish Dayal, and Gillian Anderson as Mountbatten’s wife. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on 18th August and coincides with the 70th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

We all know and applaud director Neill Blomkamp for the brilliance that was ‘District 9′, released in 2009. And we all remember the grim and brutal ‘Elysium’, starring Matt Damon, in 2013. The director has a knack for showcasing sci-fi in a way that lends a thrilling experience to every viewer.

Earlier this month Blomkamp began releasing short films from his home label, Oats Studio which is his experimental venture. Under the label, he released his first short film, ‘Rakka’ which was based on alien invasion; followed by Cooking With Bill which was based on a wacky infomercial gone horribly wrong. And following the league is Blomkamp’s latest short film, ‘Firebase’.

The film is based in the era of the Vietnam War. The plot follows American GIs who have been deployed in a rain forest where something dangerous lurks. As they search for some sort of evidence, they begin to find bodies with horrifying under growths in the skin. As the film goes on, they start to find footage that shows tanks and planes suspended and floating in mid-air. On the involvement of the CIA, the party is faced with the River God—a supernatural creature who seems almost invincible.

The plot follows various twists and turns that leave you gripping your chair tighter than ever as the scenes unfold. The starting scene opens with the body of a disfigured soldier propped and tied up in the rainforests. It gets more graphic as the film rolls on. Fans of Blomkamp’s District 9 will have a field day with his latest film! Be warned though, this movie is graphic beyond anything you know and you will want to squeal and squirm at the realness of the imagery. And if you have delicate heart, well, make it strong. Grab the popcorn. And while you’re at it, a safe blanket just in case the River God gets in…
