FZ6_shahrukhstarplusShah Rukh Khan is all set to make a roaring return to television with his upcoming show, TED Talks India: Nayi Soch, which is officially adapted from the foreign version.

The show which will have several celebrities coming in and sharing their inspirational journey in the most communicative manner has been in the news for a long time now.

And while there has been a lot of speculation as to who will be the first guest on the show, the same can now be confirmed. Recently, a news daily reported how legendary lyricist – writer, Javed Akhtar was set to be the first guest on the show, but that is not the case.

None other than Karan Johar will be the first guest on Shah Rukh’s show and the reason couldn’t have been more evident.

The friendship of the duo has been an example to many and Shah Rukh has been the inaugural guest on almost every season of Koffee With Karan.

In the 1990s and 2000s, Simi Garewal literally ruled the TV with her amazing show Rendezvous. We bet, there is no one on this planet who hasn’t followed that show. And then came Karan Johar with Koffee with Karan. The concept was almost the same with some twists here and there. And within no time his show became popular which started the animosity between the two.

Well, there was certainly no news about that but recently Karan did something to piss Simi off. It looks like Karan is on a spree to piss people off and then get roasted in the process.

Apparently, both of them were present in the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in Austraila in different capacities. Kjo was hosting a class on ‘How to direct a big Bollywood dream’, while Simi was specially invited to host the award ceremony.

And as soon as the show concluded, Simi overheard KJo talking to the organizer about hosting the show next in 2018.

Certainly, it did misfire and Simi royally took KJo’s case on Twitter calling it another ‘take over’.

After I finished hosting IFFM Awards @karanjohar told Festival Director ‘Next year I want to host the awards’! Another takeover?!🙄

— Simi Garewal (@Simi_Garewal) August 15, 2017

And within no time, people started tweeting in support of Simi as one would expect. Karan was trolled massively for his act!

Lol will karan Johar leave anything for others ..sharing is caring Karan 😎 https://t.co/q8fzM8x11y

Yeah simi but koffe was not even close to rendezvous. Coffee mug had no elegance

Don’t let it happen ma’am!  People really miss your talents as a host/interviewer! I’m glad you’re making your sentiments be heard!

This is a kind of Mafia taking over.

If this is true and serious. Shame on Karan. You don’t have to worry madam.

It’s like the ‘Oscars’ looking like the sell out ‘Filmfare’ rewards – sorry I mean awards. 😉

Karan, there’s a word of advice for you, maybe next time you should be more careful when trying to take over someone else’s job. You already have irked enough people in this life.

Karan Johar and Simi GarewalKaran Johar and Simi Garewal

Veteran actress and celebrity talk show host Simi Garewal and Karan Johar attended the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne recently. After hosting the awards event, Garewal was told that KJo was keen to anchor the show.

This didn’t go down well with her. She took to Twitter and wrote, “After I finished hosting IFFM Awards @karanjohar told festival director, ‘Next year I want to host the awards.’ Another takeover?” KJo’s chat show, Koffee with Karan, took over from Rendezvous With Simi Garewal.

It appears that the veteran host is still bitter about the filmmaker ruling the chat show scene on the same channel her show used to air years ago. Garewal has been retweeting comments by her followers on social media, who have been praising her and saying that Johar is more keen on hosting than filmmaking.

Karan-Johar-Ranbir-KapoorOtherwise restrained when discussing his forthcoming ventures, Karan Johar was uninhibited while addressing the press on his production house’s superhero venture, tentatively titled Dragon. “It will be a trilogy and is the most ambitious film we’ve worked on,” Johar said, as he heaped praise on his leading man, Ranbir Kapoor. “Ranbir is a big part of Dharma. We have had a great innings with him so far and are looking forward to the next one.”

Addressing the media at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Johar said the unit will commence shooting on the currently-untitled film in October or November. “The title will be decided within a month. We have spent a lot of time on the script.”

Even though he is among the most celebrated names in the industry, with hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2001) and Dostana (2003) to his credit, Karan Johar feels his contribution to cinema has been limited. The producer-filmmaker says he’s yet to taste the success that those who helmed the likes of Rang De Basanti (2006) and Lagaan (2001) did. With his hopes pinned on this Ayan Mukerji-directed film, we hear Johar even requested that the former rework the script to make Ranbir Kapoor’s character stronger. “I am willing to take the risk of making this film because I’m craving to make my mark in Indian cinema. Dangal (2016) has opened the doors for actors, who are now willing to get out of their comfort zone. Cinema needs a new order. We need to break the system and build it such that we only offer a hefty paycheck to actors if the script is given the same amount of importance. We should spend the money on building the film and writing the content instead of paying exorbitant fees to stars.”

Karan Johar may have left a mark on popular culture, but believes he is yet to make a notable contribution to Indian cinema. He wishes to direct films like Lagaan (2001), Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) and Rang De Basanti (2006).

“I may have contributed to pop culture, but I don’t think I have contributed to the brilliance of cinema as yet. I’m yet to make a defining iconic film,” Johar said at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2017.

The filmmaker hosted a Masterclass on ‘How to direct a big Bollywood dream’ at the ongoing festival yesterday. Citing the example of the Baahubali franchise (2015 and 2017), he said, “We need to reinvent. Dependence on stars has to reduce. Content has to take over.”

The filmmaker said his 19-year-long career has been a terrible record. “I think I should have made many more movies. You start believing that you are so important that you can’t fail. Nobody is that important. Cinema is bigger than all of us.”

After talking openly in the media about wanting to be a father, Karan Johar stunned everyone when he recently announced the news of him turning a parent, with the help of surrogacy. Roohi and Yash, as they are adorably named after his parents, Karan has finally revealed his precious little babies’ pictures and what better day than Raksha Bandhan to reveal their faces! The kids are super adorable and the wishes on his Instagram handle are growing by the minute.

6 months old today….#roohiandyash #happyrakshabandhan #lovesofmylifeâ?¤ï¸?

A post shared by Karan Johar (@karanjohar) on Aug 7, 2017 at 2:56am PDT

From keeping it low-profile and being a doting father that he has become, it hasn’t stopped him from being vocal about his journey as he’s experiencing fatherhood single handedly – fears and insecurities that come with doing this job, especially when he’s not around constantly. He pens down a heartwarming letter to Vogue that shows how grateful he is for having them, his concerns, him wanting to be healthier so he could live to watch them grow into wonderful beings.  Read the open letter –

Dear Roohi and Yash,

I was 44-years-old when you were born to me, and almost immediately you made me as sentimental as a Hallmark greeting card. I spout clichés on how magical the two of you are, how you have filled the vacuum in my life and how you made my house a home, but it’s true.

You’ve changed my life completely, and I’m not complaining. I worry a lot more than I ever did—I have these strange thoughts about my insurance premium, my will, even the division of my assets. I stay awake some nights wondering who I can appoint your guardian if something happened to me.

For now, for me, thoughts of what or who I’d want you to be are a long way off—instead, my survival and longevity have taken on a new importance. It might sound selfish but it’s my immediate instinct, to be there for you as long as I can, no matter what. Do you want to know the first thing I did when you were born? I started going to the gym and got myself a nutritionist. All to get healthier, so I’m around. I’m aware that the one thing I can give you, that I owe you, is my life. So when I think of what dreams and aspirations I have for you, my first dream is that I’m there long enough.

Most people underrate the gravity of the decision to bring a child into this world. It’s considered a part of regular life—you get married and procreate. It’s simply the done thing. But in today’s day and age, filled with urban angst and crazy schedules where one is barely able to handle their own life, bringing a new life is a big decision. It felt instinctual, I just knew I was ready—to nurture you in the way that I knew best.

Parenting advice is available in every nook and cranny—from what formula milk to how you should be burped. There were aunts and uncles who would extol the virtues of an ergonomically designed cradle and others who would wax eloquent on the degree of softness that your baby pillow should possess. I listen to everyone’s advice, but as a single father I’ve had to find my own path, my own way of being your dad. I am learning to rely more on my instincts and I’m learning to accept the fears, apprehensions and insecurities that come with being a dad.

I’ve already started imagining things like your first day at school, your first words and even your first acknowledgement of me. To tell you the truth, every single day I whisper ‘papa, papa, papa’ into your ears because I’m petrified that your first words will be in Malayalam (all our four nurses are from Kerala)!

My second dream of what I wish for the two of you is, strangely, a reaction to all those who will ask us: “Will your kids take your legacy forward?” My father never forced me to do what I’m doing. In fact, he did not want me to do what I’m doing. He wanted me to branch out of the industry, so, likewise, I don’t want you to do what is expected just because I have a company and have built a legacy. You don’t have to take my company forward if you are not inclined towards the film business. Instead, I wish that I bring you up to become people who are fiercely independent in your choices, opinions and your individual lives. The legacy, if any, I want to pass on is the independence that I was given.

Earlier this year, I attended a session with Sadhguru, and he said something beautiful that stayed with me. He said he brought up his daughter by imparting to her no knowledge. He didn’t teach her anything—whatever she learned was from the environment around. That’s what I want my children to do. I don’t want you to conform to the knowledge that is available. So, my third hope for you is that you never feel the need to conform to convention. I wouldn’t want you to be religious because you are told to be so, or turn to spirituality because it’s the cool thing to do. I don’t want you to do what people think is right. I want you to grow and acquire your own beliefs. I don’t think there’s a rulebook I can follow to take care of you, but I do believe that if I have my own strong value system, it will be imbibed into our home (and our lives), organically.

Lastly, I don’t know how much of your journey I will be around to witness, but it’s important for you to do just one thing—remember. I always remember what my father did and who he was. I live with my mother and I love seeing what she says and what she doesn’t. I want you two to eventually remember it all.

Love,

Papa

Z78_sharuk678Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is the lead actor and producer of the film “Jab Harry Met Sejal”, wanted to launch the song “Hawayein” while it was raining to make the song more impactful for the audience.

During a press conference here, when it suddenly started to rain, the actor said: “I wanted to launch Hawayein in the rain. I wanted everyone to get wet and enjoy the song.”

The song was launched on Wednesday.

Shah Rukh even joked about opening up the shed of the event’s venue so that the rain could pour in on the audience.

“This is a very beautiful love song, the song’s title is just like today’s weather, ‘Hawayein’. The song has also been picturised beautifully. It’s a very cosy song. Pritam has worked very hard with Imtiaz and Irshad Kamil to make this music,” he said at the launch.

Shah Rukh was accompanied by director Imtiaz Ali and co-star Anushka Sharma along with music composer Pritam.

Talking about the song, Ali said that ‘Hawayein’ is the most intimate song between Harry and Sejal in the Film.

“This is the fifth song that we are releasing. I am happy with the results of the previous songs. I am glad that everyone has loved them. ‘Hawayein’ is a romantic number shot mostly in Budapest. I think this is the most intimate song between Harry and Sejal in the film.” said the director.

Since Shah Rukh has worked with Anushka in films with the same romantic genre, but with different directors — Yash Chopra, Karan Johar and Imtiaz Ali, Shah Rukh commented that all three directors have a huge inclination towards romance as a subject.

“Anushka and I have been fortunate to work with Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, and Imtiaz Ali. They all have a huge inclination towards romance, love and relationships more than anything else. But I think the essence of their stories is the same,” he said.

“What’s different with Imtiaz is, when you watch two people interact in his films, they seep into your hearts without having to introduce too many external obstacles and plot points. I think his stories are about the simple things.”

“I didn’t understand until I worked with him that his films are about special moments. As far as the essence is concerned I think every romantic filmmaker do it with a lot of depth and the same essence of love is the most beautiful feeling,” the “Raees” actor added.
“Jab Harry met Sejal” is presented by Red Chillies Entertainment.

The film is about the duo travelling across different countries looking for Sejal’s lost engagement ring.

“Jab Harry met Sejal” is set to release on August 4.

Ranbir KapoorActor Ranbir Kapoor

Actor Ranbir Kapoor recently did a podcast with the team members of ‘AIB’ (All India Bakchod’). In the podcast Ranbir Kapoor revealed that he did not want to be a part of Karan Johar’s talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’.

According to a story on ndtv.com, Ranbir claimed that he and actress Anushka Sharma, his co-star from Karan Johar’s film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, had planned to get the rest of Bollywood to band together against Koffee With Karan.

“You know Karan so well and he makes you so comfortable and you are chatting with him and you don’t realise there are a billion people taking every word of yours seriously,” Ranbir said while being interviewed by AIB. “I was forced this season. I told Karan I don’t want to come in. Anushka and I were actually going to protest and get the film industry together to stop this because it’s not fair because he’s making money out of us. We come and we get scr****d through the year. It’s not right,” the actor added.

Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’ tanked badly at the box-office. He will be next seen in Ayan Mukerji’s superhero film ‘Dragon’.

Bollywood, an industry that has taken India to an entirely new level and has given us moments to be proud of, seems to have come to a standstill with lack of novelty, almost 100 years later since its origin. Gone are the days when actors were known to be artists, their aura served as a light to many and their art was not only a source of entertainment but an inspiration to many. It was many decades ago when no ‘Kapoors’, ‘Khans’ or ‘Bhatts’ used to rule Bollywood, the fact that performance and stardom used to walk hand-in-hand is no more completely valid these days. While ‘Kapoors’ are known to be the flag bearers of nepotism, almost every second actor in the Indian film industry is the flag bearer of families which have produced some of the greatest actors, ironical is the fact that these flag bearers are not born actors.

The Impact Of Nepotism On Bollywood Is Larger Than What We See© Twitter

We saw the seeds of nepotism easily sprouting in Bollywood. Actors with pure talent are sidelined due to first priorities given to recommendations. And the worst part is, if an outsider tries to raise his voice, he is slammed, cursed and denoted a wannabe seeking attention.

Let us talk about a recent example which sparked the nepotism debate on a bigger level. When actress Kangana Ranaut with her ‘Rangoon’ co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor appeared in an episode of ‘Koffee with Karan’, she didn’t shy away in tagging Karan Johar as the flag bearer of Nepotism. In no time this divided Bollywood in two groups, the feminists and the ones supporting Johar. Much has been said and done till date and this issue has become a wider phenomenon.

However, Kangana is one of the few people to have given an opinion. The idea of nepotism is wider than we believe it. So why did, in the first place, Karan Johar choose to launch Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan through ‘Student of the Year’ despite of the fact that their (Alia and Varun) fathers have remained well known directors-producers in their times? Was there a dearth of good struggling actors, who could have deserved the stardom? And now there are speculations about who would bag the lead role in ‘Student of the Year’ sequel, let us tell you that Jahnavi Kapoor (Sridevi’s daughter) and Sara Ali Khan (Saif Ali Khan’s daughter) are already in discussions for the role.

The Impact Of Nepotism On Bollywood Is Larger Than What We See© Facebook

No doubt Ranbir Kapoor is a good actor and has proved himself after giving a few flops, no doubt Alia Bhatt has nurtured herself to become a better actress, but what about those who after years of struggle bag just the side roles and are never considered amongst the royals? We are proud of the fact that we have people like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ayushmann Khurrana, Priyanka Chopra, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadda to name a few, whom we can refer to as actors with real acting capabilities.

Even after working under good banners and having spent years in Bollywood, some of them have just taken their privileges for granted. They have neither been able to speak up for themselves to the least, nor have they worked hard enough to keep up the names of their filmy ancestors. Becoming an artist who not only brings the glamour to you but also brings a change in society, is no more existential, ‘competition’ seems to be a dull word, particularly for those who have not even tasted the essential crisis which the word ‘struggle’ itself holds.

The Impact Of Nepotism On Bollywood Is Larger Than What We See© Facebook

If Bollywood is not about nepotism and favouritism, then why a major number of actors do not reach one level up, where the world starts noticing them. Why till date, we do not even have a good number of Bollywood stars with international recognition? Reason is as clear and bitter as ice – For years and years we get to see the same sparkling yet hollow faces who do not even know the number of opportunities they have snatched, just because they belong to a good old Bollywood clan. If we see the ratio, the percentage of outsiders in Bollywood, it would not even be fifty percent.

Boredom has already set in with no good scripts, less good actors and almost no experimentation. Look at Hollywood, Bollywood! And notice the gap if you can. Sooner or later, the Indian audience would wake up to let you know that they are no more interested to see the two and half hours of nonsense being presented to them in the name of big directors or actors. They would stop loving you for not being able to present your art which you were supposed to do, because now they have something called Netflix which would anytime replace a boring Karan Johar drama with an interesting original series.
