Karan Johar turns 46 on May 25. The party-hearty filmmaker is known to throw the mother-of-all bashes at his home. Recall the Valentine’s Day party for singles this year? But those in the know say KJo might be flying to his favourite city, New York, to celebrate his big day with his band of besties, which includes Manish Malhotra, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Kaajal Anand.

On the work front, Karan Johar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming anthalogy ‘Lust Stories’. Karan’s short film Ice-Cream features Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Neha Dhupia in lead roles. Lust Stories include four short stories; each of them has been directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akthar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. The film Lust Stories will release on June 15 on Netflix.

Throwing some light on the concept of the film, he said, “We all know film is called ‘Lust Stories’ so the film is about love and lust. I think it’s exciting that we all decided on this theme together and thought that all directors would have an individual interpretation of love and lust so invariably when you have given choice between love and lust, more sensible people will choose lust only because it’s infinitely more exciting than love is.”

Karan said just like men, even women have the right to seek pleasure. “My film is about seeking pleasure. It’s also about the fact that it’s not just the man’s right to seek pleasure, it’s also a woman’s right.”

Karan Johar, the ace filmmaker of Bollywood, has donned the director’s hat for many incredible actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to the younger generation celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan among others.

While the whole of Bollywood wouldn’t miss a chance to work with KJo, there’s one actor who has rejected Karan for a film for the second time. The actor we are talking about is not a Bollywood A-lister but a South Superstar, Prabhas.

Reportedly, the Baahubali star has rejected a project by Karan for the second time. A report in TOI reveals that Karan Johar who was keen to cast Prabhas for one of his projects had approached the actor but as the south superstar is busy with his big-budget film ‘Saaho’, he had to say a NO to the filmmaker.

Earlier, Karan had approached Prabhas for a project but things didn’t fall into place because the actor was demanding a huge fee. Reportedly, the filmmaker backed out from the project after Prabhas demanded a whopping sum of Rs 20 crore for his Bollywood debut.

Speaking of his upcoming film ‘Saaho’, Prabhas is currently in Abu Dhabi, shooting for a 50-day long schedule. Few pictures from the sets where he is seen riding a bike went viral on social media some days back.

The film also stars Bollywood celebrities like Shraddha Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff, Mandira Bedi, Evelyn Sharma, Amy Jackson, Chunky Pandey, and Mahesh Manjrekar. This Indian drama film is simultaneously being shot in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.

‘Saaho’ is slated to hit the theatres next year.

Bollywood’s trendsetter Kareena Kapoor Khan is likely to romance the young heartthrob Kartik Aaryan in a Karan Johar film. The duo had earlier walked the ramp for celebrated designer Manish Malhotra in Singapore. Their pair was loved by one and all, and the pictures and videos from the fashion event went viral on social media.

According to a press statement issued, it read that Kareena Kapoor and Kartik will share screen space in a 2-hero 2-heroine film. The film will be directed by newbie Raj Mehta. Mehta has earlier worked with Karan Johar and director Shashank Khaitan on a couple of Dharma ventures. The press release further read that the movie, which will be produced by Dharma Productions, will go on floors soon after the balance cast is decided. However, Kareena Kapoor is yet to sign on the dotted line but has consent in principle.

The film might either have Janhvi Kapoor or Kriti Sanon to play one of the other leads in the film. Sources say that the heroine could be either Janhvi Kapoor (who is also doing KJo’s Dhadak currently as her debut) or Kriti Sanon. A final decision in this regard is yet to be taken. Well, if this works out, Kartik Aaryan‘s dream of working with his crush Kareena Kapoor, will come true. He has time and again professed his desire to work with the Begum.

Filmmaker Karan Johar is in mood to take up full-fledged acting jobs. The director-producer, who made his acting debut in Hindi films with Anurag Kashyap’s box office debacle, Bombay Velvet, believes he is a “big flop actor”.

Karan was recently seen in Welcome to New York and the film, featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Diljit Dosanjh, also bombed. When asked if he would like to take up acting offers in Marathi cinema, Karan said, “I am a big flop actor. None of my films run. I did ‘Bombay Velvet’ and ‘Welcome to New York’. and both didn’t work. Nobody should cast me in any film. I should not be taken. No viability with me. I am a very big flop actor.”

The filmmaker, however, is ok doing cameo appearances in movies. Karan Johar was speaking at the trailer launch of Bucket List, a Marathi film that the he is presenting. The film marks dancing diva Madhuri Dixit‘s debut in Marathi cinema. Meanwhile, when prodded about “Kalank”, that brings Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri on the big screen together after a gap of more than two decades, Karan refused to comment saying, “it is not the right time to talk about it”.

Throwing a contemporary twist to term distastefully hurled at differently-abled, Vishal Dadlani collaborates with band to rehash Dil Toh Pagal Hai track

After celebrated names like Sonu Nigam and Asha Bhosle lent their support to Y-Films and Karan Johar’s band of young musicians last year, the group’s second edition has found its first supporter in Vishal Dadlani. The recently-created band, 6 Pack Band 2.0, a music group comprising teens with special needs, has created a contemporary version of the celebrated title track from Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997).

The remixed version has been rendered by Dadlani. “It means the world to feature in a song with the band. These kids have taught me about life, courage and overcoming obstacles,” Vishal Dadlani says of the children, including Ananya Halarnkar, Anjali Ramesh, Maitreya Matale, Paarth Padhye, Prerna Agarwal and Rishaan Patil. Ashish Patil, creative head, Y-Films, chronicles the reason behind choosing the two-decade-old track.

“The ignorant refer to special needs as pagal. But with this band, we’re driving on the fact that if listening to your heart is madness, then, we’re mad. The lyrics have been rewritten. The chorus hopes to establish that the heart knows what head hasn’t figured out yet. We’ve introduced a modern groove to make the song relevant.” Patil adds that the track was shot at a special needs school, featuring 100 people comprising students, faculty and staff members.

“It’s a dramatic song. We are eyeing a mid-May release.” A teaser released yesterday sees the musician lead the pack of six in a thumping rock concert. A source says, “Vishal’s heart beats for specially-abled children. He has gone the extra mile to support Y Films’ initiative. He hasn’t charged a penny for this venture. He saw some of the work of the members and was mesmerised by their talent.”

Karan Johar is all set to produce one of the biggest and multi-starrer films of 2019 titled Kalank that will be directed by Abhishek Varman, starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles.

As reported by DNA, KJo has built a huge set for the film Kalank. A source informed, “A huge set has been erected in Film City, which is under heavy security to ensure that pictures of the interiors are not leaked. They are also taking extra measures to keep the look of the cast under wraps.”

The source told DNA that Karan has spent Rs 15 crore to build an Old Delhi set in the city. “Karan got Amrita Mahal Nakai to work on the set’s design and structure. They have created an old Delhi mohalla with a Mahal, where filming is currently on. Kalank is set against the backdrop of the Partition. Since it’s based in the 1940s, the set has been designed keeping that particular period in mind,” added the source.

The source mentioned that this film is important to Karan Johar as this was his ad Yash Johar’s project. “The film is special to Karan because his dad Yash Johar was keen that this project should materialise. Karan wants to make sure it’s one of the biggest films he’s ever produced. He wanted the whole set to express the grandeur and scale of Kalank,” said the source.

The team has already started shooting for “Kalank” and is slated to release on April 19, 2019.

Barring Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan who wore a Rohit Bal floor-length jacket, the designer duo’s friends, old and new, wore ensembles from Abu-Sandeep’s roster. How’s that for brand loyalty?

For once, nepotism proved good for business. Over the weekend, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla hosted a reception gala for the latter’s niece and the CEO of their brand, Saudamini Mattu, at a Juhu club. And it was a gathering of friends and family of the influential kind, dressed in the designated dress code – Indian festive. She was the style victor of the night. Her deep-tinted locks went well with the ivory bindi prodding same pinch with her saree tone, offset by a jade-hued neckpiece. The blouse had the daintiest of tassel details noticeable only when she swayed to Pallo Latke in comfy Kolhapuri flats.

The unmistakable pre-wedding glow was in place as India’s darling fashionista made an appearance in a Phulwari black and white gharara. The mogra cha phirki gajra and maang tikka was a nice touch that the pretty-close-to-perfect to-be bride added.

The hosts who claim, “Chikan is our Birkin”, were dressed in white – their favourite shade. Jani wore a Mughal-inspired, full-pleated angrakha in luxurious buttery muslin, accessorised by a gigantic ruby ring. Khosla stuck to the trademark white tee worn under a floral gold cutwork kurta.
