After CBFC demanded several cuts, Omerta director Hansal Mehta glad with the reviewed decision

Rajkummar Rao in Omerta

After the Central Board of Film Certification demanded “a series of cuts” in Rajkummar Rao’s Omerta – which is based on British terrorist of Pakistani descent Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh’s life – director Hansal Mehta was forced to knock on the door of the Revising Committee.

“I had gone to the Board asking for an A certificate, but the Examining Committee demanded a series of cuts. I even lost track of the number. The Revising Committee was understanding. They only asked for two edits,” says Mehta. He reveals that one of the demanded cuts involves a scene showcasing full frontal nudity. “It’s a violent sex sequence which they found too rough for general viewing. The scene is not about sex, but aims at depicting the mental state of my protagonist.”

The second sequence, he adds, is one that showcases the protagonist urinating in prison while the national anthem plays in the background. “That, apparently, is nconstitutional. So we had to let it go,” says Mehta, adding that the cuts don’t hamper the narrative.

Blast on location in Wai as elaborate war sequence goes horribly wrong, cast and crew of period drama escape unhurt

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar has been shooting for Kesari, which is based on the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi, in Wai over the past four months. The unit of the period drama was in for a shock yesterday when a massive fire broke out on the location in the early evening.

A source says, “Anurag Singh [director] was filming a war sequence on location when one of the bombs, being used for the scene, exploded. Within a matter of seconds, the entire set was gutted. Most of the lighting equipment and cameras were lost in the fire. Fortunately, not a single person of the 100-member-strong unit was hurt.”

Kumar, who usually shoots through the day in Wai and flies back to Mumbai on his chartered chopper in the evenings, had left for the day around 3.30 pm. “None of the primary actors were required for the shoot. Akshay filmed his portions by late afternoon and then the director proceeded to can the war sequence with the additional artistes,” adds the source.

With the set now destroyed in the fire, the team has the challenge of recreating the Gulistan Fort — one of the key sites of the battle. “Since a 10-day shoot is yet to be covered, a new set will need to be recreated. Though it’s too early to say, the makers are now considering building the set in Film City in Mumbai.”

Confirming the news, the police officials of Satara said, “The fire department of Bhuinj and those of surrounding areas were alerted [about the incident]. By evening, the fire was brought under control.”

As teaser of Sanju receives appreciation, Ranbir Kapoor on how he was hesitant to take on Sanjay Dutt’s role for biopic

With the teaser of Sanju having released yesterday, Ranbir Kapoor’s seamless transformation into Sanjay Dutt has been appreciated by his fans and naysayers alike. While director Rajkumar Hirani was convinced that only Kapoor could do justice to the multi-dimensional character, the actor revealed that he was initially hesitant about taking up the role.

“When Raju sir [Hirani] told me about this film, my first instinct was that I won’t be able to do this. I felt I didn’t have the courage and the acting chops to pull off this role. This is not just an acting gig for me. I took up this film as an opportunity to be part of a story of someone whom I consider my icon,” said Ranbir Kapoor of the project that will arguably go on to become one of the landmark films of his career.

Although he knew Dutt socially, Kapoor said the script brought to the fore the different facets of the star that he was otherwise unaware about. “As a family friend, I have always known a different Sanjay Dutt. As his fan, I knew him as a style icon, knew his mannerisms and his swag. But when I read the script, it shocked me. From his drug [abuse] to his terrorism controversy, from his equation with his father [Sunil Dutt] to how the passing away of his mother [Nargis Dutt] affected him, everything shocked me.”

The biopic, which also stars Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala in prominent roles, sees Kapoor sport six different looks as he traces Dutt’s journey from a 22-year-old debutant in Rocky (1981) to his release from jail in 2016. Talking about the physical transformation that he had to undergo for different portions of the movie, Kapoor said, “The shooting of the film was spaced out, so we had enough time to prepare. After every segment, I almost had a month to prepare for the next avatar. So, in that sense, it wasn’t difficult at all.”

Mid-day says: Sanju teaser a stunner
“Apna life full saap seedi ka board hai — kabhi up toh kabhi down,” says Ranbir Kapoor right at the onset of Sanju teaser. No whitewashing or glorifying here; if the teaser is any indication, for Sanju, director Rajkumar Hirani goes back to what he does best — say life’s simple truths with a pinch of comedy. While Abhijat Joshi and Hirani’s sharp scripts may have been the star of their previous outings, the sole star of the biopic is Kapoor. He slips into the character effortlessly — from being the burly-framed, long-haired Dutt of the early ’90s who lives life with abandon, to the slightly hunched 58-year-old incarcerated actor who has learnt life lessons the hard way. With Sanju, Kapoor may get that elusive hit. But more importantly, Dutt may get the perfect comeback film, even without featuring in it.

Anushka’s upcoming Bollywood projects include Zero and the biopic on Sanjay Dutt

Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma

Actress Anushka Sharma says experimenting with roles has been a mainstay in her career from the start. Anushka spoke to the media here on Monday on the sidelines of an event organised by Standard Chartered Bank, where she was announced its brand ambassador. In a promotional campaign for her latest endorsement, Anushka plays the triple role of a daughter, mother and grandmother.

On the experience, Anushka said: “I have always tried to experiment with my roles right from the beginning.

“This year, I am doing films in which all my characters are very different from one another in terms of physical and emotional appearance. So, when you get to do that in an advertisement, you feel great.

“Playing a triple role was something which I had never done before, so I was very excited. It takes a lot of time while doing prosthetic make-up, but the end result was great. So, I was all up for it.”

Anushka’s upcoming Bollywood projects include Zero and the biopic on Sanjay Dutt.

“I am really happy that this year, I am doing different kind of films and both films are going to release very soon. As far as the Dutt biopic is concerned, that’s one film that the audience will be very excited about and will be happy while watching it.

“I recently saw a teaser of it and I really liked it. I am doing a cameo in it. Nevertheless, I am really looking forward to watching the film.”

The actress-producer also shared her thoughts on the ordinance to introduce death penalty for rapists of children, after the nationwide uproar on Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

“I was deeply hurt and affected by the incident. Even now, when I think or talk about it, I feel disgusted and extremely emotional. I feel the most severe punishment has to be meted out to the people involved.

“The most severe punishment should be served to those who spoil something as innocent as a child because it’s the worst thing that a human being can do.”

Arunoday Singh has featured in Netflix’s Love Per Square Foot

Arunoday Singh
Arunoday Singh

Actor Arunoday Singh is happy with the growth of digital platforms for entertainment content. He says it keeps many people active and employed. Arunoday has featured in Netflix’s Love Per Square Foot.

Asked how he feels about the boom of digital mediums, Arunoday told IANS over phone from Mumbai: “I think it is wonderful. I think it has legitimately given so many actors legitimate work… It is not work to look down upon. It is actually good work and it keeps so many people employed and active.”

“The more options actors and writers have, I think it is spectacular,” the 35-year-old actor added.

Does he feel that the digital medium can over take the silver screen?

“There’s a certain thrill to see a movie in a theatre… But if the theatre people keep over charging us, including for water, then maybe people will stay home and stream (things online). It has to be feasible to go to a theatre. If they are not careful, then digital will overtake only because of the money and the convenience,” he added.

What do you do when your ex- girlfriend danced to a super hit dance number, but you are on the field with your buddy whose wife danced on a crazy number as well? How do you choose one? Well you don’t! Atleast that is how Ranbir Kapoor dealt with his impromptu dancing skills. Abhishek Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor were recently in Singapore for a charity football match when ‘Kala Chashma’ was played on the field, but the men ended up doing the ‘Kajra Re’ instead.

When it’s Kala Chashma but you wanna go Kaje Ra Re 😂👌💃 @juniorbachchan#AbhishekBachchan #RanbirKapoor #AllStarsFC #Football #Magicbus #Singapore #AB_Junior #Bachchan #friends #Dance #kala_chashma #kajerare #celebrities #Bollywood #India  #ABcrew #ابهيشيك_باتشان pic.twitter.com/IYoiZAlUG4

When someone tweeted about it, Abhishek had a funny explanation for the same.

Hahaha. Ranbir and I just couldn’t get the steps so we did one that we knew.

— Abhishek Bachchan (@juniorbachchan) April 23, 2018

If you personally ask us, we love both the songs but we’ve got to give it to Aish, the true OG.

Ranbir is currently trending big time thanks to his jaw-dropping avatar in ‘Sanju’ , the Sanjay Dutt biopic where he is playing the titular role.

It’s here, well actually, for us it’s almost here. I’m talking about the release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, the most anticipated movie of the year and probably the biggest superhero movie of all time.

First Reactions To 'Avengers: Infinity War'

(That gif also represents how we’re running to the finish line, it’s so symbolic.)

While we have to wait for a few days for the release, some lucky bastards have already watched it and no, I’m not jealous at all, I’m just patiently waiting.

Okay, maybe just a little bit jealous because honestly, we’ve been waiting for what seems like a lifetime.

First Reactions To 'Avengers: Infinity War'

So, the premier happened last night in Los Angeles and critics’ early reactions are already rolling in. People finally have the answer to how Marvel actually managed to fit so many superheroes into one movie and get them to fight over some rainbow stones.

The premier last night was the biggest treat for the stars, press and lucky fans who got an early look at the movie and at least we also got something out of it. If the early reactions are any indication, you need to book that first day, first show right now.

Thanks for rubbing it in our faces, Brie.

WE SAW INFINITY WAR AND KNOW EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN IT OMG

— Brie Larson (@brielarson) April 24, 2018

Or, maybe we won’t have to wait. Mark, do your thing again man, we’re waiting. We’re counting on you.

In case Mark doesn’t come through this time, let’s just read these short reviews in the meantime while we wait for April 27.

The one thing to know to realize how epic the movie is the fact that Kevin Smith broke the embargo with a tweet that literally has the embargo time in it.

I am overwhelmed. The movie is epic beyond compare. LOVED it. My legs are still shaking. It’s a gigantic @Marvel masterpiece. So much to say but I’ll stay Silent Bob til Monday so as not to slip in spoilers. Suffice to say it’s gonna be a looooong year until @Avengers 4… pic.twitter.com/aHnsgj5MK0

— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) April 24, 2018

 See.

One more.

Non-spoiler AVENGERS: #INFINITYWAR emotions:, in no particular order: 🔥🔥😬💔😱🕷💫🚀🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨💥💥💥💥😭😳😳🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥😬🙈✨⚡⚡⚡🥃

Not saying ANYTHING else.

— Anthony Breznican (@Breznican) April 24, 2018

See, now this is what we want.

“Avengers: Infinity War” is the culmination of the last 10 years in the MCU, coming to a point of flawless action, dramatic effect, and a breathtaking appeal for its fans.  It is an impeccable achievement in both direction and visuals.  (1 of 2) #Avengers #InfinityWar pic.twitter.com/DVcxtI3Scs

— Clayton Davis (@AwardsCircuit) April 24, 2018

“Avengers: Infinity War” puts all the stakes on the table.  It could be “Empire Strikes Back” of superhero films, where you are put through the ringer OR Marvel could renege on everything we witnessed, & spit in the face of its fans in Part 2. Hope not #Avengers #InfinityWar 2/2 pic.twitter.com/pF3tCqxlAh

— Clayton Davis (@AwardsCircuit) April 24, 2018

I can’t wait to watch it now.

#InfinityWar is mostly great, somehow managing to mix all the elements of the MCU into one big mix-tape of fun, thrills, emotion… and despair. The ending is brilliant.

— Scott Collura (@ScottCollura) April 24, 2018

Me too, man.

Laughter. Fights. Tough decisions. Triumph and emptiness. @Avengers has it all. I feel the weight of what I just saw and the journey of the last ten years bearing down. Mama needs a drink. Wow. #infinitywar #ThanosDemandsYourSilence

— Grae Drake (@graedrake) April 24, 2018

Now, this sounds helpful.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is basically CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR times 20, except with less hero-on-hero fighting. I think people who loved the airport fight in CIVIL WAR like I did will go nuts for this film, and people who were bored will be 20 times as bored here. #InfinityWar

— Tasha Robinson (@TashaRobinson) April 24, 2018

But personally, if I’d seen #InfinityWar for the first time at a normal screening in a normal theater, I would have walked out afterward, bought another ticket, and walked right back in for a second viewing. That’s how much I was into it.

— Tasha Robinson (@TashaRobinson) April 24, 2018

WHAT IS THE ENDING? I NEED TO KNOW.

Another thing: I’ve been reviewing films for decades now, and I have never heard an audience react to the end of a film like the #InfinityWar audience reacted tonight. It was an astonishing experience. (And it’s another reason I want to see the film again in a packed house.)

— Tasha Robinson (@TashaRobinson) April 24, 2018

Okay then.

Avengers #InfinityWar is epic, emotional and most of all, shocking. Marvel just raised the stakes higher than you can believe. pic.twitter.com/KnqJICe7fC

— Inverse (@inversedotcom) April 24, 2018

Just an excuse to watch it multiple times.

#InfinityWar is a whole lot to process. I liked it a lot, and there’s so much that works, but it definitely is “Part 1.” The ending is amazing and worth the journey, but there is a LOT crammed into its run time. Overall really liked it but need a rewatch already. pic.twitter.com/3P3rd3ojHJ

— Terri Schwartz (@Terri_Schwartz) April 24, 2018

I really like the first line.

#InfinityWar is everything you want, nothing you expect. It’s funny, surprising, dark, filled with delightful interplay between characters never seen on screen before. I know many filmmakers say they are trying to make a sequel in the vein of Empire Strikes Back, this succeeds.

— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) April 24, 2018

Okay, remember people, stay till the very end.

Infinity WOW! #InfinityWar. Lots of payoffs. Stay till the very END. That’s all I’m saying. pic.twitter.com/ch7adyFK21

— Brian Tong (@briantong) April 24, 2018

We don’t even mind.

#InfinityWar may be the most expensive Hollywood movie ever designed to mess with its audience. People sure are going to sit through a lot of credits!

— erickohn (@erickohn) April 24, 2018

That’s a good idea, also that hashtag tho.

I’m gonna be pretty inactive on Twitter till I see #InfinityWar…hope y’all understand (and do the same)! #ThanosDemandsYourSilence pic.twitter.com/hijhx9PEHT

— Robbie Fox (@RobbieBarstool) April 24, 2018

A lot to unpack? We don’t even mind.

#AvengersInfinityWar is the MCU’s biggest soap opera ever, and that’s not a bad thing. Feels more like a sequel to Guardians, and you’ll get to see what makes a Mad Titan tick. We will have A LOT to unpack soon.

— Mike Sorrentino (@MikeJSorrentino) April 24, 2018

What is the ending? I need to know now.

The final minutes of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR are heartstopping. Can’t wait for the next one. Marvel wins again. #AvengersInfinityWar #Avengers #InfinityWar

— Ben Barna (@sufferings) April 24, 2018

I will probably be the one clapping in the theatres.

From beginning to end, #AvengersInfinityWar is non-stop action. It’s really dynamic and jaw-dropping, but at times, it could have stopped for air and give us more substance on plot points. Loved it when the audience clapped as soon as #BlackPanther & #okoye entered the scene.

— Wilson Morales (@blackfilm) April 24, 2018

Captain America always brings it.

I saw #AvengersInfinityWar earlier tonight and I can say that it delivers. There’s a lot of really fun character interactions, some cool action moments (Thor’s powers, Iron Man’s suit), and a few powerful emotional beats. Most of the humor is 👌ðŸ?» Also Captain America is 💥 pic.twitter.com/WoZNPDpGXk

— Molly Freeman (@mollyrockit) April 24, 2018

Okay, we have some pros and cons.

MVPs: Thanos!!! Thor, most of the Guardians, Peter Parker, best ending of any Marvel movie, possibly the best end credits scene of any marvel movie.                                             Cons: Cg villains other than Thanos, teenage Groot, not enough black panther leads.

— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) April 24, 2018

Can’t wait to gasp.

I’ve left every Marvel movie with a sense of where the franchise was going. The strong “Avengers: Infinity War” is the first time where I’m utterly perplexed about what’s next. There were audible gasps at the NYC screening. pic.twitter.com/xouqNzh7ps
