Saawariya’ pair Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are back and how! The duo made their Bollywood debut together in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ and spread winsome charm with their chemistry. Unfortunately, the two actors had not teamed up for any film post that. However, Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ will once again bring Sonam and Ranbir together on screen. Here’s a glimpse of their characters from the film.

As promised, Hirani took to Twitter on Friday and shared a new poster featuring Ranbir and Sonam and captioned it

The two seem to be having a whale of a time enjoying each other’s company. From what it looks like, Sonam plays RK’s love interest in his younger days as Sanju.

Well, it sure would be interesting to see the duo team up for a full-fledged film soon, isn’t it?

Aamir Khan, who has clocked 30 years in the film industry, finds Ranbir Kapoor a good actor and he is confident he must have done well in Sanju

Aamir Khan says he was offered to play the role of late Sunil Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, the upcoming biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt, but he refused it only because he wanted to essay the title character. Aamir interacted with the media on Wednesday. Asked if he was offered to play the role of Sunil Dutt, he said, “He (Hirani) approached me with the script and I loved it. He wanted me to play Dutt saab’s role. It is a fantastic role and the story is largely on the father-son relationship. But Sanju’s role is unbelievable.”

“So as an actor, I told Raju that Sanjay Dutt‘s role is so wonderful that it won my heart. So in this film I can’t do any other role but Sanjay Dutt’s, which of course I cannot do because Ranbir (Kapoor) is playing it. So, do not offer me anything.” Aamir Khan, who has clocked 30 years in the film industry, finds Ranbir Kapoor a good actor and he is confident he must have done well in the film.

“I cannot wait to watch the film now,” said Aamir, who has worked closely with Hirani in films like 3 Idiots and PK. In real life, Aamir shared a strong bond with Sunil Dutt. Reminiscing some fond memories of the late actor, he said, “He always sent me telegrams in those days to wish me on Diwali, Eid, birthday… If my film did well, he sent me a congratulations note.”

What was his favourite memory of Sunil Dutt? Aamir said, “During the riots of 1993, the Hindi film industry took a delegation to the then Chief Minister to stop the riots. Around 40 people went to the CM’s office. After that, we decided that since no immediate action had been taken, we will sit under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Mantralaya. All 40 of us came and sat under the statue and we decided until the violence stops, we won’t move from there.”

“For the night, we decided to continue it rotationally. So on the first time, Dutt Saab, Yash Chopra, Johnny Walker, I and one of the film producers, we all sat down together at night under the Gandhi statue. We spent the whole night there… Of course, the next day people came and by the evening the CM took some action. But for me, it was a memorable night where I was listening to the stories of their journey from Dutt saab and Johnny Walker. I remember that night very clearly. He was a very strong, dignified and gentle person.”

Aamir confirmed he was producing the slain Indian music mogul Gulshan Kumar’s biopic with Bhushan Kumar.

Sanjay Dutt is said to be returning to production with the Hindi remake of the Telugu film Prasthanam (2010) after almost a decade

Sanjay Dutt is said to be returning to production with the Hindi remake of the Telugu film Prasthanam (2010) after almost a decade. The actor seems to have forgotten that five years ago, he had produced a comic caper, Hasmukh Pighal Gaya, which never saw the light of day. The film, starring Dutt and Jackie Shroff, had Amitabh Bachchan crooning a number. Sejal Shah’s directorial venture was about an alcoholic on the road to sobriety. The project, though complete, lies stuck in the cans. Some things are better forgotten.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt is all set to play the ruthless, merciless villain in Yash Raj Film’s period action-adventure Shamshera. He will be pitted against Ranbir Kapoor in the mega action spectacle. Interestingly, Shamshera will be Sanjay’s first ever film with YRF.

Prosthetic artist Dr Suresh Murkey on how 35-year-old Ranbir Kapoor transformed into 58-year-old Sanjay Dutt for Sanju

Days after Ranbir Kapoor unveiled the teaser of Sanju, prosthetic specialist Dr Suresh Murkey has been showered with praise yet again. The renowned artiste has been credited for his finery in films like Guru (Abhishek Bachchan), The Dirty Picture (Vidya Balan), and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (Kangana Ranaut). This time, however, a solo film has enabled him to create four distinct looks for Kapoor, so that the latter can resemble Sanjay Dutt over the years.

One assumes it must have taken multiple meetings with Dutt for Murkey to have memorised such nitty-gritties of his appearance. However, the artiste says that an interaction with the actor is still pending. “Rajkumar Hirani [director] gave me some photographs of Dutt through different stages of his life. It was based on the pictures that I designed Ranbir’s prosthetics. I took four sets of measurements of Ranbir’s face in order to minimise any scope of error,” says Murkey.

In a bid to replicate a young Dutt from the ’90s, Murkey worked on the lower half of Kapoor’s face. “I needed to make Ranbir’s jaw bone look different to resemble Dutt’s, and make his cheeks look puffy, especially near the lips. In order to add age to his face for the latter part of the film, prosthetics were worn on the upper part of his mouth so that his cheeks could look fuller near the nose and below the eyes,” he says, pointing out that his cue was the Bhoomi actor’s look when he was leaving jail. The prosthetics, he informs, were made out of acrylic and a mix that is used in dentures.

Sanjay Dutt has been posting snapshots from the shoot on Instagram

Sanjay Dutt on Torbaaz sets in Kyrgyztan

Sanjay Dutt has resumed shooting for Girish Malik’s Torbaaz in Kyrgyztan. After a stint of shooting last year in the central Asian country, there was buzz that the film was riddled with production issues. The project is now back on track. Dutt has been posting snapshots from the shoot on Instagram. He celebrated the birthday of one of the child actors, Wahib Iqbal Kapadia, on the set recently.

With the teaser of Sanju having released last week, Ranbir Kapoor‘s seamless transformation into Sanjay Dutt has been appreciated by his fans and naysayers alike. While director Rajkumar Hirani was convinced that only Kapoor could do justice to the multi-dimensional character, the actor revealed that he was initially hesitant about taking up the role.

“When Raju sir [Hirani] told me about this film, my first instinct was that I won’t be able to do this. I felt I didn’t have the courage and the acting chops to pull off this role. This is not just an acting gig for me. I took up this film as an opportunity to be part of a story of someone whom I consider my icon,” said Ranbir Kapoor of the project that will arguably go on to become one of the landmark films of his career.

Although he knew Sanjay Dutt socially, Kapoor said the script brought to the fore the different facets of the star that he was otherwise unaware about. “As a family friend, I have always known a different Sanjay Dutt. As his fan, I knew him as a style icon, knew his mannerisms and his swag. But when I read the script, it shocked me. From his drug [abuse] to his terrorism controversy, from his equation with his father [Sunil Dutt] to how the passing away of his mother [Nargis Dutt] affected him, everything shocked me.”

The biopic, which also stars Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala in prominent roles, sees Kapoor sport six different looks as he traces Dutt’s journey from a 22-year-old debutant in Rocky (1981) to his release from jail in 2016. Talking about the physical transformation that he had to undergo for different portions of the movie, Kapoor said, “The shooting of the film was spaced out, so we had enough time to prepare. After every segment, I almost had a month to prepare for the next avatar. So, in that sense, it wasn’t difficult at all.”

Mid-day says: Sanju teaser a stunner
“Apna life full saap seedi ka board hai — kabhi up toh kabhi down,” says Ranbir Kapoor right at the onset of Sanju teaser. No whitewashing or glorifying here; if the teaser is any indication, for Sanju, director Rajkumar Hirani goes back to what he does best — say life’s simple truths with a pinch of comedy. While Abhijat Joshi and Hirani’s sharp scripts may have been the star of their previous outings, the sole star of the biopic is Kapoor. He slips into the character effortlessly — from being the burly-framed, long-haired Dutt of the early ’90s who lives life with abandon, to the slightly hunched 58-year-old incarcerated actor who has learnt life lessons the hard way. With Sanju, Kapoor may get that elusive hit. But more importantly, Dutt may get the perfect comeback film, even without featuring in it.
