Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has been in the Hindi film industry for more than four decades, says he has seen a number of transitions in the industry including the time when filmmaker Vikram Bhatt marked his debut and then made a name for himself.

Besides Vikram, who is Mahesh’s family friend, Vikram’s daughter Krishna too has boarded the filmmaking band wagon with her upcoming web-series “Untouchables”.

“I think I have seen so many transitions of this industry and Vikram came and joined me and then Vikram became a force to reckon with. He has made his foray into the world wide web and Krishna is one of that streak,” said Mahesh in a statement.

“As you get older you have faith in the younger people and I personally feel that the younger generation has the urgency and idiom of today to communicate with the world in their language but what they need is the draw from the emotional depth of the journeys that we have taken. My journey, her father’s journey and that’s how her graph will be fuelled by a deeper understanding and I think she already has that in her,” he added.

While Mahesh debuted in the film world with his direction of the film “Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain” in 1974, Vikram entered the film industry in 1992 with “Jaanam”.

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sued by his former personal assistant for discrimination and harassment.

Sandeep Rehal, who worked as Weinstein’s personal assistant from 2013 to 2015, has registered Harvey and his brother Bob and The Weinstein Company as defendants in the lawsuit filed on Thursday in the New York federal court, reports metro.co.uk.

“For over two years Rehal was forced to work in a pervasive and severe sexually hostile work environment at The Weinstein Company LLC and The Weinstein Co Holdings LLC, defined by endless offensive, degrading and sexually harassing actions, statements and touching at the hands of her boss, Harvey Weinstein,” read the filing.

In the documents, Rehal said: “Much of Rehal’s work as an employee of TWC involved catering to Harvey Weinstein’s sexual appetites and activities and catering to his demeaning and often abusive family members. Rehal was required to be involved in and aware of the preparations for, and clean up after, Harvey Weinstein’s extremely prolific sexual encounters.”

Rehal claims that she had to keep a list of Weinstein’s “girls” and set up an apartment close to his New York office for his sexual liaisons.

She was also forced to clean up the semen on the couch in Harvey Weinstein’s office. “This happened on a regular basis, three or so times a week when Harvey Weinstein was in New York.”

In response to the lawsuit, Weinstein’s spokeswoman said, “Weinstein categorically denies these claims and his lawyers will respond in the appropriate legal forum with evidence proving they are untrue.”

Expressing her admiration for Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray, veteran actor and theatre artist Shabana Azmi on Friday said she would have loved to act in all the films Ray made.

“Every single one of them… Anything he would offer me,” Shabana said at a session on Ray’s film “Shataranj Ke Khiladi” (1977) at the Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet here.

Shabana, who herself acted in the film based on Munshi Premchand’s short story, said she was overwhelmed to get an offer from Ray at such an early stage of her career.

“I was so overwhelmed that the great Satyajit Ray was offering me anything at all. I put down the phone and picked it back up and put it down again, to actually believe that it was Ray talking to me,” she exclaimed.

“I was very young then. I had just entered the film industry and I must say that I wasn’t even familiar with the story except for the surface because Premchand was somebody so revered that time. So what I concentrated on was the only three days that I worked in the film.”

Talking about Ray’s mastery in cinema, she said the innovative change at the end of the film was so wonderful that it evoked discussions on how much creative freedom can be given to a filmmaker without destroying the essence of a book.

Reminiscent of her first interaction with the prolific filmmaker on the film set, Shabana explained how Ray’s suggestions and thinking fascinated her.

“When I reached the studio on the first day, I was in jeans and T-shirt. Ray shook my hand, said get into your costume, then we will talk.

“I did not have the courage to ask him, why wasn’t he saying anything to me? Then when I got into my costume, I realised that the costume demanded a certain posture with which I sat.

“Then he came into the room and said in those jeans and I don’t think I would have been able to communicate with you about what I want from the character. I thought that was fantastic,” she said.

Though her screen time in the film was less, the actress said she considers herself to be lucky to have made the cut.

Even though his days as a professional wrestler has probably prepared him for all kinds of stunts, he still sometimes needs help, and he gets by with a little help from his family. Actually, a cousin – who could be his twin – to be exact.

When the stunts in his movies get a little too much for even The Rock to handle, then steps in Tanoai Reed, a Hawaiian-born Hollywood stunt performer. Since Tanoai is Johnson’s cousin, that really says something about the gene pool, doesn’t it?

Tanoai Reed calls his cousin DJ, and I have to admit that’s a cool nickname. Why don’t more people call him that? Okay, maybe ‘The Rock’ sounds really cool as it is. Tanoai admitted that he is an avid follower of his cousin’s movie career, and is behind a lot of the stunts in his blockbuster movies.

While talking to UNILAD, he said, “Working with DJ was literally a dream come true. We only first met on the set of his first starring role movie The Scorpion King. Before that, I admit I was a huge fan of his and was actually “The Rock” for Halloween the year before I started working with him.”

Tanoai has been in the game for a really long time and has racked up an impressive 23 years as a professional stuntman. Moreover, he has been doubling for The Rock for the past 16 years as well. Now, that’s a long partnership. I can’t imagine The Rock backing down from anything – after all he was a professional wrestler before his smooth transition into acting – but at least his cousin has his back.

This beautiful partnership started back in 2002, when Tanoai doubled for Johnson on the set of ‘The Scorpion King’, and has now lasted for almost two decades. It can also be thanks to the uncanny resemblance between the two, and obviously their physical fitness, which quite evidentally runs in the family. And, as if that wasn’t enough, both of them also have matching traditional tattoos which they got back in the nineties to honour their rich heritage of Samoan and Norwegian, Swedish and Irish descent.

Tanoai has worked with Johnson on Faster, The Other Guys, Pain & Gain, San Andreas, Be Cool, Gridiron Gang, the Fast & Furious franchise and Baywatch.

It has been a long partnership, but not a smooth one; back in 2003 Tanoai shattered his ankle while completing a dangerous stunt in The Rundown, which involved tumbling down a cliff side. Recalling that, he said, “Being a stuntman had its ups and downs (no pun intended) but overall I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. We get paid to crash cars, jump off buildings and do other things most people wouldn’t normally get to do.”

While we try to keep up with the Kardashians, Reed has to religiously keep up with The Rock. He said, “I have to stay in shape to double him. If he leans out, I need to lean out. If he packs on muscle for a certain role, I must do the same. I also need to be in great physical shape to perform the stunts I do so I won’t get injured. We both have great genetics so our physiques are similar.”

He added, “DJ eats very clean and works out very hard to achieve his look. It’s a great challenge for me, but it’s my career. He motivates me and supports me as well. Lots of love and respect between the two of us.”

The filmmaker expressed his views while talking about the fundamentals of dating amongst homosexuals on “Calling Karan” on ISHQ 104.8 FM, a statement said.

“Firstly, I don’t want you to divide what is homosexual and heterosexual. Let’s talk about it as a relationship. Yes I do understand that there is a difference because of society and I know how tough it is. When it comes to a man dating a man, understand that men are different from women in that respect. It’s not about orientation it’s just the way men are cut out to be,” Karan said.

“They don’t like anyone who comes on so strong initially and even if women had to do the same they would back off. So sometimes you got to take it easy. If you meet someone on a coffee date allow him to take it on a dinner date and then into like sex. And after that don’t immediately start painting the picture of a future,” he added.

Talking about the dating perception amongst gay men, Karan said: “Don’t be over-eager in the beginning. Allow a relationship to nurture as it takes a while. Stop trying to get married from the first time you meet them. You always feel ‘ohh!! This is the one’.

“Just because your lover is good in bed and you have a great physical chemistry or conversation chemistry doesn’t mean that they are your spouses for life. It just means that you are hitting it off and allow your relationship to breathe. Sometimes you yourself will realise that ‘hey! This one is not worth it. It’s not working out’ or maybe you will realise that ‘let me give it sometime’. And let me tell you, to look for monogamy in a gay relationship or for that matter any relationship in these days is not easy.”

The next instalment of Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible” franchise has been titled “Fallout”. The title was revealed by Cruise, who made his debut on Instagram, sharing a pic of a clapper board with the film’s name written on it.

“Get ready,” Cruise captioned the photo. In another Instagram post, Cruise shared a still of him holding on the side of a helicopter mid flight. “We’ve upped the ante for the sixth #MissionImpossible, I can’t wait for you guys to see more,” wrote the 55-year-old actor.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, “Mission: Impossible’ Fallout” will also feature Henry Cavill, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin, Wes Bentley and Frederick Schmidt.

Dutt’s respect for the megastar is such that once he was smoking a cigarette and watched him come towards him, the former immediately crushed the already lit cigarette in his hand.

While India celebrates Republic Day today, filmmaker JP Dutta has decided to use the auspicious occasion to shoot a special song, dedicated to the Indian Army, for his upcoming film Paltan. The film’s cast, including actors Arjun Rampal and Sonu Sood, will kickstart the shoot of Sabko Yahaan in Chandigarh today. What makes the song all the more special is that it marks the reunion of Sonu Nigam, lyricist Javed Akhtar and composer Anu Malik.

The trio had collaborated on the famous Sandese Aate Hai for Dutta’s Border (1997). So inspired was the filmmaker by the magic they weaved together that he worked with them again in LOC Kargil. A source from the production house informs that the song was recorded over the past few days at a suburban recording studio in Mumbai. Ahead of the filming, the cast – Harshvardhan Rane, Luv Sinha, Siddhant Kapoor, Gurmeet Choudhary, Jackie Shroff along with Rampal and Sood – reached Chandigarh yesterday.

“The unit was shooting in Ladakh for the past few weeks. Having wrapped up that schedule, they headed to Chandigarh for the last leg of shooting,” says the source. An ode to the men in uniform, the song will also feature real-life soldiers from the Indian Army. “The team is quite excited to shoot the song with the jawans. It’s an inspirational song that will remind people of Sandese Aate Hai.” Without divulging too many details about the track, producer Nidhi Dutta says, “The song is about our brave soldiers and their families. Behind every soldier guarding the border, there is a family that lets him go so that he can protect his country.”
