Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is sorry he invoked names of actors Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence in a recent legal defense. ‘Mr. Weinstein acknowledges the valuable input both Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence have contributed to this conversation and apologizes,’ a spokesperson for the 65-year-old said in a statement Thursday, according to E! Online.

‘Mr. Weinstein has been informed that his civil counsel responded in court to a class action lawsuit which improperly sought to include all actresses who had previously worked with Mr. Weinstein, even where those actresses have made no claim of wrongdoing.

‘Even though Mr. Weinstein has worked with hundreds of actresses and actors who had only professional and mutually respectful experiences with him,’ the statement added, ‘Mr. Weinstein has directed in the future that no specific names be used by his counsel, even where those actors have made previous public statements about him.’

In a federal court in New York on Tuesday, Weinstein’s lawyer had cited comments made by Streep, Lawrence and Gwyneth Paltrow meant to suggest that not every woman who ever worked with Weinstein was abused or had a negative experience. Both the Oscar-winning actresses had then publicly called him out for using their quotes in court.

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sued by his former personal assistant for discrimination and harassment.

Sandeep Rehal, who worked as Weinstein’s personal assistant from 2013 to 2015, has registered Harvey and his brother Bob and The Weinstein Company as defendants in the lawsuit filed on Thursday in the New York federal court, reports metro.co.uk.

“For over two years Rehal was forced to work in a pervasive and severe sexually hostile work environment at The Weinstein Company LLC and The Weinstein Co Holdings LLC, defined by endless offensive, degrading and sexually harassing actions, statements and touching at the hands of her boss, Harvey Weinstein,” read the filing.

In the documents, Rehal said: “Much of Rehal’s work as an employee of TWC involved catering to Harvey Weinstein’s sexual appetites and activities and catering to his demeaning and often abusive family members. Rehal was required to be involved in and aware of the preparations for, and clean up after, Harvey Weinstein’s extremely prolific sexual encounters.”

Rehal claims that she had to keep a list of Weinstein’s “girls” and set up an apartment close to his New York office for his sexual liaisons.

She was also forced to clean up the semen on the couch in Harvey Weinstein’s office. “This happened on a regular basis, three or so times a week when Harvey Weinstein was in New York.”

In response to the lawsuit, Weinstein’s spokeswoman said, “Weinstein categorically denies these claims and his lawyers will respond in the appropriate legal forum with evidence proving they are untrue.”

Actress Richa Chadha, who minces no words when she talks about social issues, says it’s important for people to keep the discussion on about sexual harassment all the time, instead of only when it’s “trending”. The social media has been abuzz with a ‘Metoo’ campaign, as part of which women from across the world have been expressing their experiences with sexual harassment. Richa told IANS: “First, I would like the media to carry a consistent campaign against sexual harassment, verbal or otherwise, not just discuss it in a hurry when it’s a ‘trending’ topic.”

Secondly, she feels, “Men all over the world need to recognise the privilege they have in that, they can wear what they want, do whatever they want, go wherever they want, hang out with who they want without anyone questioning their character”. “The axis of the world is tilted in favour of the man. And I am not surprised by women contributing to the ‘MeToo’ campaign,” added the actress, who has featured in films like “Fukrey” and “Masaan”.

The campaign is in the wake of the sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein by a long list of actresses including Lupita Nyong’o, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow.

After reading ‘Ram Kapoor is desi Harvey Weinstein?’ (Hitlist, October 18), producer-director Shailendra Singh received a call from filmmaker Prakash Jha.

He told Singh to drop the idea of casting Kapoor in his film, Casting Couch Ouch, and instead consider him for the character modelled on the tainted Hollywood producer.

Jha said he was bored and was willing to start shooting immediately. Was he joking or serious?
