New CBFC Chief Prasoon Joshi Kick Starts His Career By Banning Punjabi Film 'Toofan Singh'
It has been nearly two weeks since lyricist and screenwriter Prasoon Joshi succeeded Pahlaj Nihalani to take over the position of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) chief. And it seems that within 12 days of his joining, Joshi has already sent a movie into his recycle bin. ‘Toofan Singh’, the first film sent to Joshi for certification has been reportedly banned in India on the grounds of excessive violence. It is a Punjabi film directed by Baghal Singh and narrates the story of Toofan Singh, who adopted terrorism to fight politics and corruption in the Indian bureaucracy.

According to a report published in DNA, a source from the CBFC said, “Toofan Singh is a terrorist, who goes on a rampage killing corrupt cops and politicians. And they’ve compared him to Bhagat Singh. The film is brutal and anarchic. We couldn’t empathise with its message of brute power, let alone grant it a censor certificate.” The film, however, has already been released overseas. Ranjit Bawa plays the titular role of Toofan Singh.
Joshi joined as the CBFC chief after Pahlaj Nihalani was fired by the government and we are sure Bollywood must have breathed a sigh of relief after his ousting. Nihalani was often at loggerheads with the directors for his unnecessary ‘cuts’ in films. If you think the word unnecessary is kind of weird to use here, well, don’t forget that he is the guy under whose leadership the censor board released a list of banned words that included ‘Bombay’ and over 30 other cuss words. Had Bollywood listened to him, then National award-winning movies like ‘Darr’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘The Dirty Picture’ or ‘Omkara’ wouldn’t have captured our attention like they did.

‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’
Director RS Prasanna says he wanted “Shubh Mangal Saavdhan”, which talks about erectile dysfunction, to steer clear of vulgarity as he did not want the audience to “feel squeamish”.
Citing examples of films like “Piku” and “Vicky Donor”, which dealt with unusual themes like constipation and sperm donation, Prasanna says he has given a comic flavour to the
film to make the topic digestible.
“What’s the fun in talking about erectile dysfunction if I make it vulgar? It’s stupid because the more risky the idea, the more you have to make it digestible. It is extremely critical to the health of the film that it better be funny and sweet,” he told PTI.
The film is a remake of his hit 2013 directorial debut “Kalyana Samayal Saadham”. The director says when filmmaker Aanand L Rai approached him for the Hindi remake, he didn’t “rush into it” as he didn’t want to mess up with the opportunity.
“As soon as my movie released in Chennai, within 20 days I had an offer in hand to direct a Hindi film. When something happens so fast, you need to take a lot of time to ensure that you don’t goof up that opportunity.”
Starring Tamil actor Prasanna and Lekha Washington, “Kalyana Samayal Saadham” released in 2013. “Even while writing the film we were aware that this is a universal theme, when the movie released we started getting feelers from a couple of people in Bollywood.
“I was even told that ‘Kalyana…’ is a Bollywood movie in the form of a Tamil film. It was very urban, softer in its rhythm. Back of the mind, we knew if the movie does well, there is a chance we can take it to Bollywood.”
Rai got busy with his directorial “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” and Prasanna started a small English film about spirituality. The real work started in 2015 as Prasanna wanted a writer who could do justice to the subject.
“Himanshu Sharma writes exclusively for Aanand L Rai. He has his own rhythm. While he was there to guide, he was working on the Shah Rukh film. So, I needed to find my own Himanshu. I found it in Hitesh (Kewalya). Once he came on board, it was fast.”
It took them six months to change the setting of “Kalyana Samayal Saadham” from Chennai to Delhi-Uttar Pradesh backdrop for “Shubh Mangal Saavdhan” and come up with a new, organic script which still retained the core essence of the original. The film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar, is ready to release on September 1.

Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik Roshan said he takes up a film only when the story appeals to him on an emotional level.
“I keep my instincts in mind. I must do a film that appeals to the human side of me and not to the star (side). If it connects with me then it will connect with the fans and audiences,” he said in an interview here when asked about his process of choosing a film.
For the 43-year-old actor, the basic emotions of a story should strike a chord with him first.
“There are times when the scene is supposed to be emotional and you imagine the audience crying but are you crying? The scenes in the film might seem very beautiful, but if the script has not moved me then it will not work (with the audience as well).”
He was talking on the sidelines of an event here last evening where he unveiled the Rado ‘sports collection’ as the global ambassador of the Swiss watch brand.
To a question about the influence of sport in his and his children’s lives, he said, “I am going to push my kids to adopt some sports as it builds sportsmanship, character. It teaches you a lot of things, it teaches you survival.”

The iconic Batman villain and one of the most enigmatic characters in comics, The Joker is just about to get his own origin story.
Even though fans were quick to express their anger after hearing the news that an origin story was in the works, we can all at least be happy about one thing – the character won’t be played by Jared Leto in this Warner Bros film.
© DC
Martin Scorsese has been signed-on to produce this movie and, along with that, it will be directed by ‘The Hangover’s’ Todd Phillips, who will co-write the film alongside ‘8 Mile’ writer Scott Silver, according to Deadline.
While the character never had his own movie, the character has been portrayed by some incredible actors on the big screen. Back in 1960s, Cesar Romero played the character in the Batman series.
Then, Jack Nicholson took over the role for Tim Burton’s Batman in the 1989 movie.
After that, Heath Ledger even won a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of the character in 2008’s The Dark Knight.
The Joker is currently being played by Jared Leto, and he will continue to portray the character in in the forthcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel and ‘Gotham City Sirens’, but, reportedly, a different and younger actor will be handed the role for this movie. But with Scorsese being on board, Leonardo DiCaprio probably cannot be ruled out.
The news was met with a lot of backlash, with fans mainly arguing that the Joker doesn’t require an origin story at, that’s the point of the character.
that Joker film is supposed to be an origin film? oh god
— Terence Johnson (@LeNoirAuteur) August 22, 2017
The whole point of the Joker is that he has no set origin story https://t.co/f63wzK8Zpc
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) August 22, 2017
An origin is totally unnecessary for the Joker at this point. And as in prev RT, The Dark Knight made it clear he’s scarier w/out one.
— Whitney Drake 🌈🌊 (@whitneyd) August 22, 2017
i hate the idea of joker having an origin like, we know HOW he was made but it’s so dumb for him to be like “oh look at him having a bad day
— restroom ranger ray (@batgirlofatx) August 22, 2017
But, hearing about Scorsese’s involvement, some people were still a little hopeful.
Martin Scorsese on board to produce a 1980’s Gotham City crime film based on the origins of the Joker? You have my attention… #TheJoker
— Jesabel (@JesabelRaay) August 22, 2017
Okay I’m hopeful for the Joker movie. If they are casting a new joker and Scorsese is suppose to produce then all is not lost.
— Nicole Huggins (@nikki_huggins93) August 22, 2017
DiCaprio must be playing the joker? DiNero is his father? Where does Joe Pesci fit in?
— J Gerry (@IslandKing63) August 22, 2017
But, after Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, whoever gets signed on to play the role will have some big shoes to fill. Literally!
The 6th episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 left us shaken in our seats. We still need therapy to get over the death of Daenerys’ dragon. While it was the silliest plan in the show so far, we think Jon Snow did end up with something after all. No, you pervs, we aren’t talking about Daenerys. We are talking about huge revelation that killing a White Walker will kill all the wights he created. That could be a game-changer now, couldn’t it?
The finale of season 7 is going to be one hell of an episode and the wait is messing with our minds. If the trailer was anything to go by, there is going to be at least one death in the next episode. We wonder what the title ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’ means, considering Dany (a dragon) and Jon (a wolf) are a thing now. It could also be only about Jon Snow, since he is both a dragon and a wolf – Targaryen and Stark.
The images from the season finale are out and they be the last ones you are gonna speculate about this season. Have a look!

We are still not sure if she really is pregnant, as she claimed in front of Jaime. With Cersei, you never know.

Looks like Jaime is finally going to put his foot down and stop following her orders blindly. About time!

As clueless as Theon looks, we too have no idea what he is still doing in the show. He had post trauma stress disorder, we get it and we understand. But as a character, he doesn’t fit in the plot anywhere. In GOT, people die for a lot less than that. He better have something to contribute in the finale.

This is the last episode and it’s gonna be the longest this season and we are waiting for it with bated breath. ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 airs in India on Star World and Star World HD every Tuesday at 11 PM. This is going to be epic, hopefully.

The response to his last few Bollywood films like “Fan”, “Dear Zindagi”, “Raees” and “Jab Harry Met Sejal” at the box office notwithstanding, Shah Rukh still managed to rake in $38 million between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017 and is ranked eighth on the list, reports forbes.com.

The National Award winning actor is having a golden run at the box office and has achieved success with all his films released in the past one year including “Housefull 3”, “Rustom”, “Jolly LLB 2”, “Naam Shabana” and the just released “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha”.

Sylvester Stallone might have a huge list of blockbuster movies to add in his cap of achievements, but for us, he will always be our favourite boxer Rocky Balboa aka ‘The Italian Stallion’. The Rocky franchise is undeniably one of the most amazing sports movies ever made and while we are usually skeptical about the sequels of certain classics, this is one series we always look forward to. Be it the 1976 ‘Rocky’, ‘Rocky IV’, ‘Rocky Balboa’, or ‘Creed’; each movie packed unparalleled action and drama.

Talking about ‘Rocky IV’, how can we forget the iconic battle between Rocky and Russia’s Champion Boxer Ivan Drago? Dolph Lundgren who played Drago fought both Rocky and Apollo Creed, which resulted in Apollo’s death in the movie. More than Apollo’s death it was Ivan’s words that moved us, “If he dies, he dies”. Well, fast forward to the present time and 32 years later the two iconic boxers will meet each other again in ‘Creed’ sequel. And the way Dolph Lundgren is training for his role, it looks like he is all set to pack some really crazy punches. Dolph recently posted a video of his workout on Instagram and let’s just say, we are in for some kick-ass action.
Getting ready for something big! 👊 @officialslystallone #Creed2 #IvanDrago
‘Creed II’ will see Adonis ‘Donnie’ Creed (Michael B. Jordan), Apollo’s son, avenge his father’s death by going toe-to-toe with the man who killed him. In fact, not long ago, even Stallone hinted about Ivan’s ultimate fight with Donnie. Although time will tell how the movie shapes up, but we don’t think we can hold together our excitement anymore. But, the good news is that a showdown between Rocky and Drago is definitely on the cards. According to TMZ Sports, Stallone said, “It wouldn’t be a party without Drago, would it? I’m gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once.” Well, Stallone, we are with you. The fight that took place 32 years ago, definitely deserves a rematch.
Here’s a chance to stretch your imagination … HISTORY WILL ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, JUST GOT TO BE READY! … Sins of the Father…. #creed2 # agentnickyc #rockybalboa
If this wasn’t enough to intrigue us, Stallone posted another image of with the caption, “A winner is just a proud loser who never stopped trying!…the Son is Rising!”
A WINNER IS JUST A PROUD LOSER WHO NEVER STOPPED TRYING! …. the Son is Rising ! #ivandrago #creed2 #rockybalboa #MGM #warriors@dolphlundgren
Well it is also being rumoured that ‘Creed 2′ might feature a fight between Donnie and Drago’s son, with a focus on ‘sins of the father’ theme. As of now, the movie is slated for a 2018 release, although we are not sure of the exact date.
