We are used to watching big movie stars playing the titular roles in the film. However, there are also some films that are entertaining despite not having a huge star cast on their banner. It’s just the extraordinary plot and talented actors who leave us impressed. You don’t always need a Kapoor or a Khan to make a film work.

Lately, such films have been gaining popularity. Time has changed, we look forward to great content.

And one such film that has grabbed everyone’s attention recently is director Shanker Raman’s Gurgaon, which is said to be inspired by true incidents. Since the time the first look was out, people have been talking about it, after all the name itself increasing one’s curiosity.

The film stars star Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Oberoi, Ragini Khanna and Aamir Bashir. The title clearly drops the hint that the film talks about a crime that takes place in an area which is located admits of well-developed place.

Well, one look at the trailer and the story keeps getting intense with every passing moment. The premise of the film revolves around the daughter of a big-shot family being kidnapped. But that’s not it, there is lots of mystery, secret and every member of the family has a hidden motive. Isn’t intriguing it?

Pankaj Tripathi who won our hearts with his acting in Nil Battey Sannata and Ragini Khanna leave you both surprised and stunned in this trailer. Watch it out yourself.

Remo D'SouzaRemo D’Souza

Remember how the makers of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) kept the nation’s most-guarded secret – why Katappa killed Baahubali – under wraps till the second instalment of the film hit the screens? Maybe the edit team of Akshay Kumar’s next, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, needs to borrow this strategy to keep the film safe until its release. Recently, choreographer-filmmaker Remo D’Souza, who was at his gym, stumbled across a pen drive, containing Kumar’s entire film, which is set to hit the screens on August 11.

D’Souza told mid-day, “My gym trainer found a pen drive at the studio and asked me to have a look at it. I was shocked to find that it had the entire raw footage of the film. I made sure he didn’t pass on the copy to anyone. Neither did I let him watch it. Prerna [Arora of KriArj Entertainment; film’s production company] is a friend and I gave the pen drive to her. I am a filmmaker and as part of the fraternity, I understand a leak could have lasting monetary repercussions. The film’s business would have been massively affected. I just did whatever I could, in my capacity.”

Meanwhile, the producers are being extra careful and have also lodged a complaint with the crime branch to get hold of the culprit. “An internal enquiry has been set up. The matter cannot be taken lightly. So far, the investigation doesn’t suggest any malicious activity, but Neeraj Pandey [co-producer] doesn’t want to take any risks. He will keep the editing job between him and his most trusted men henceforth, to avoid such a situation in the future,” says a source.

Initially, no official complaint was filed, but on Wednesday, under the direction of a supervising cop, who was looking into the matter, an FIR was registered. “The pen drive containing the film is now with the police,” says the source.

Munna Michael

‘Munna Michael’
U/A; Action/Dance
Director: Sabir Khan
Cast: Tiger Shroff, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nidhhi Agerwal
Rating: 2 stars

There should be a genre of films called fan-pleasers, if there isn’t one already. Munna Michael is precisely that by design – a dance-actioner that must keep its focus firmly on showcasing the dancing prowess of its leading man, Tiger Shroff. His repertoire reeks of such well-designed fiestas, most of them directed by Sabbir Khan, who helms this one too.

In their third outing together, Khan is well-acquainted with the strengths and weaknesses of his protégé. And thus, here’s a script smartly weaved, with little plot and more frills. You will be sold at the good ol’ hand pummeling, Shroff spicing up the desi maar dhaar with mixed martial arts. His moonwalking a la Michael Jackson, the man who plays the posthumous muse to this project, is top notch. For Shroff alone, the story sails through comfortably. Foster parented by an erstwhile choreographer, chawl boy Munna [Shroff] has got the moves. His services are called upon by a Delhi thug Mahinder [Nawazuddin Siddiqui], who is all shades of lovable and yet, can’t lure the woman of his dreams. The ladylove, played by Nidhhi Agerwal, suffers from acute daddy issues, whose omnipresent brooding persona stays with her throughout the film, even though he never makes an appearance.

Khan’s story resembles one that’s lifted from the ’90s, where people took to alcohol after being thrown out of jobs and found children in dustbins, who they’d eventually adopt. There is dosti and daraar, with a judicious dollop of dhokha. The most predictable love triangle unfolds once Munna and Mahinder become banter buddies. The problem here is that Agerwal doesn’t have chemistry with either of the men wooing her. Siddiqui, as always, seems earnest as he keeps his inhibitions aside and dances to his heart’s content, delivering quick and thick laughs in the process. But, in the remaining scenes, he hams like never before. Just a few weeks after a master show in Mom, it breaks my heart to see what we reduce our fine actors to, for fat paychecks.

Thus, it falls upon Shroff to shoulder the responsibility of handholding the film till the end. His spectacular dance moves will leave you spellbound, which is probably the intent of this venture.

The best way to relish this film is by arranging your expectations of it. Let’s get real – there is no novelty to what plays out. There is some fun to be had if you have interest in either action or dance, or both. Siddiqui’s comic relief is a cherry on the top. But the real treat here is Shroff, who has mastered the genres of dance and action in this industry. His fans are going to have one helluva time at this freak show. Others, avoid!

With the whole cast going all out to promote it, everyone has been eagerly waiting for the release of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’. But, it has been reported that the movie, which is set to release on 15th August, has already been leaked.

It is very unfortunate to hear about how the movie has been circulating on pen drives and CDs, when so much goes into the making of a movie. One of these pen drives even landed in the hands of Remo D’souza as well.

In an interview with Spotboye, he revealed how a leaked copy came into his possession through his gym trainer.

He said, “My building’s gym trainer, Vithal, came up to me and said that he had a pen drive which has the first half of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I thought he was joking, but he insisted that I believe him. I immediately told him to bring it to me.”

He further added, “I opened up the pen drive and almost fell off from my chair. It was not the first half, but the entire second half.”

“This implied that if this pen drive had started doing the rounds, it would have created havoc. I am a filmmaker and I know how the world comes crashing down if anybody’s film from my fraternity is exposed before it hits theatres.”

Even though Remo couldn’t contact Akshay since he is currently in London shooting for his next movie, he made sure to inform the film makers so something can be done about it as soon as possible, before a lot of damage could be coming their way.

Piracy is, unfortunately, quite a common thing in the industry, with movies like ‘Udta Punjab’ leaking just one day before the premier. People need to understand how much actually goes into making a movie, especially a movie like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and need to give up these unethical practices.

Bollywood, an industry that has taken India to an entirely new level and has given us moments to be proud of, seems to have come to a standstill with lack of novelty, almost 100 years later since its origin. Gone are the days when actors were known to be artists, their aura served as a light to many and their art was not only a source of entertainment but an inspiration to many. It was many decades ago when no ‘Kapoors’, ‘Khans’ or ‘Bhatts’ used to rule Bollywood, the fact that performance and stardom used to walk hand-in-hand is no more completely valid these days. While ‘Kapoors’ are known to be the flag bearers of nepotism, almost every second actor in the Indian film industry is the flag bearer of families which have produced some of the greatest actors, ironical is the fact that these flag bearers are not born actors.

The Impact Of Nepotism On Bollywood Is Larger Than What We See© Twitter

We saw the seeds of nepotism easily sprouting in Bollywood. Actors with pure talent are sidelined due to first priorities given to recommendations. And the worst part is, if an outsider tries to raise his voice, he is slammed, cursed and denoted a wannabe seeking attention.

Let us talk about a recent example which sparked the nepotism debate on a bigger level. When actress Kangana Ranaut with her ‘Rangoon’ co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor appeared in an episode of ‘Koffee with Karan’, she didn’t shy away in tagging Karan Johar as the flag bearer of Nepotism. In no time this divided Bollywood in two groups, the feminists and the ones supporting Johar. Much has been said and done till date and this issue has become a wider phenomenon.

However, Kangana is one of the few people to have given an opinion. The idea of nepotism is wider than we believe it. So why did, in the first place, Karan Johar choose to launch Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan through ‘Student of the Year’ despite of the fact that their (Alia and Varun) fathers have remained well known directors-producers in their times? Was there a dearth of good struggling actors, who could have deserved the stardom? And now there are speculations about who would bag the lead role in ‘Student of the Year’ sequel, let us tell you that Jahnavi Kapoor (Sridevi’s daughter) and Sara Ali Khan (Saif Ali Khan’s daughter) are already in discussions for the role.

The Impact Of Nepotism On Bollywood Is Larger Than What We See© Facebook

No doubt Ranbir Kapoor is a good actor and has proved himself after giving a few flops, no doubt Alia Bhatt has nurtured herself to become a better actress, but what about those who after years of struggle bag just the side roles and are never considered amongst the royals? We are proud of the fact that we have people like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ayushmann Khurrana, Priyanka Chopra, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadda to name a few, whom we can refer to as actors with real acting capabilities.

Even after working under good banners and having spent years in Bollywood, some of them have just taken their privileges for granted. They have neither been able to speak up for themselves to the least, nor have they worked hard enough to keep up the names of their filmy ancestors. Becoming an artist who not only brings the glamour to you but also brings a change in society, is no more existential, ‘competition’ seems to be a dull word, particularly for those who have not even tasted the essential crisis which the word ‘struggle’ itself holds.

The Impact Of Nepotism On Bollywood Is Larger Than What We See© Facebook

If Bollywood is not about nepotism and favouritism, then why a major number of actors do not reach one level up, where the world starts noticing them. Why till date, we do not even have a good number of Bollywood stars with international recognition? Reason is as clear and bitter as ice – For years and years we get to see the same sparkling yet hollow faces who do not even know the number of opportunities they have snatched, just because they belong to a good old Bollywood clan. If we see the ratio, the percentage of outsiders in Bollywood, it would not even be fifty percent.

Boredom has already set in with no good scripts, less good actors and almost no experimentation. Look at Hollywood, Bollywood! And notice the gap if you can. Sooner or later, the Indian audience would wake up to let you know that they are no more interested to see the two and half hours of nonsense being presented to them in the name of big directors or actors. They would stop loving you for not being able to present your art which you were supposed to do, because now they have something called Netflix which would anytime replace a boring Karan Johar drama with an interesting original series.

Bollywood superstar Arbaaz Khan slammed ‘Munna Michael’ director Sabbir Khan for claiming to direct the third instalment of superstar and brother Salman Khan-starrer ‘Dabangg 3’.

Arbaaz Khan took to Twitter to dismiss a report by a Mumbai tabloid that quoted Sabbir Khan as saying he would be directing ‘Dabangg 3’.

Arbaaz Khan tweeted, “Sabir khan was never approached to direct or write Dabangg 3. His statement in Mumbai Mirror is untrue and rubbish. Extremely disappointing”

‘Tubelight’ must have failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box-office but Salman Khan fans have a chance to rejoice. Their beloved police inspector ‘Chulbul Pandey’ is returning in the third installment of ‘Dabanng’- ‘Dabangg 3’.

‘Dabangg’ released in 2010 while ‘Dabangg 2’ hit the screens in 2012. Co-directed by Arbaaz Khan, both the films starred actress Sonakshi Sinha.

Salman Khan says his brother Arbaaz does not want to direct ‘Dabangg 3’, and that they will find a ‘good director’ for it.
While Sohail has directed Salman in films like ‘Auzaar’, ‘Jai Ho’, ‘Hello Brother’ and ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’, Arbaaz has directed Salman in only one movie ‘Dabangg 2’.

When Salman was asked about his favourite director among the two, he said, “Since Arbaaz doesn’t want to direct, I feel Sohail is a better director because he is more patient and with Sohail, you can improvise on things but in a similar situation, Arbaaz gets panicked and his blood pressure starts to fluctuate.”

“Now we are going to start ‘Dabangg 3’, so he (Arbaaz) told me ‘Very good, but I am not going to direct it and I am only producing it’. So I said, ‘Very good, we will find a good director for that’.”

AkshayThe sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2007 hit, Namastey London, was meant to be called Namastey England. However, filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah has had to change the title of the film starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra. The romcom will now be called Namastey Canada, and will be shot in the North American country instead of the UK.

A source says that the original plan was to have Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead, but it didn’t work out. “The project took some time to get finalised and Akshay got busy with other projects, including Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Padman, 2.0 and Gold. So, Vipul signed Parineeti and Arjun for the film. Both, Akshay and Vipul own the Intellectual Property (IP) rights to the Namastey series, and when
the filmmaker approached him for the rights, the actor refused to part with the titles Namastey London 2 or Namastey England. He told Vipul that he may want to produce and act in Namastey England later. So, the filmmaker had no choice but to change the title to
Namastey Canada,” says the insider.

When contacted, Shah told mid-day, “Unfortunately, I can’t talk about it right now. You will have to bear with me for a couple of days till a few things get sorted out. I will make an announcement soon.”

maxresdefaultThe much-awaited trailer of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ was launched in a grand manner in Mumbai where the cast and crew met and interacted with members of media. Shah Rukh Khan, who is overseas on a family vacation, graced the audience with his presence via video-conferencing.

The trailer sees the journey of Harry and Sejal who meet through sheer fate. What follows is a series of unfortunate events that paves way for their budding friendship and eventually love. In the search to find the love of his life, Harry falls head over heels in love with Sejal while the latter is hunting for her lost engagement ring.

For the first time in his 25-year-long career, although briefly in the film, Shah Rukh will be seen playing the role of a Sardar, while Anushka pulls off the Gujarati girl-next-door vibes well.

Interestingly in a recent interview, King Khan revealed that he wanted to work with Imtiaz Ali, who approached him for a dark film initially. But SRK wanted to do a happy film and asked Imtiaz if he had any other story. When Imtiaz said that he had a love story, SRK immediately gave his nod.

Presented by Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Jab Harry met Sejal’ is directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film is all set to release on August 4, 2017.

The trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ is out and we guarantee you that it won’t leave you disappointed. After giving us a sneak peak with five mini trailers and four songs that are already on our playlist, the trailer was released just a few minutes ago.

The three minute clip displays some spectacular chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. And when they are together, it goes without saying that they will entertain you to the core.

Shah Rukh Khan plays a Punjabi ‘munda’, Harry, who is a tour guide, while Anushka plays Sejal, who is one of the tourists he meets. The mini trailer left everyone impressed as Imtiaz brought an unseen version of both these amazing actors onscreen.

The quirky equation of both the actors has left us truly entertained and we totally feel like taking a European vacation and find a guide who is as phenomenal as Harry. But that’s really unrealistic, isn’t it?

The clip is super-cool, making you laugh and smile with small moments. We can’t wait to see Harry’s ‘cheap and ganda’ character and Anushka’s Gujju avatar. And of course, ‘beech beech mein’ we want to hit the dance floor and groove our bodies too. Plus, these two are our favourites, man!

Check out the trailer yourself and get ready for this incredible love story.
