Soundarya Rajinikanth with husband DhanushSoundarya Rajinikanth with husband Dhanush

Basking in the success of Dhanush starrer “VIP 2”, director Soundarya Rajinikanth says she would love to direct the planned third part in the “VIP” franchise.

At the success meet of “VIP 2” earlier this week here, Dhanush confirmed “VIP 3” is on the cards.

However, he said they haven’t locked a director or script yet.

Soundarya says she would love to be associated with the franchise once again.

“I would love to direct ‘VIP 3’. People think I have acting ambitions, but I seriously don’t. I’m happy behinds the lens as the director,” Soundarya told IANS.

Asked if she plans to direct outside the “VIP” franchise, she said she is toying with a few ideas.

“There a few ideas that I’m working on at the moment but it’s too early to talk about them. If it has to happen, it will happen and we don’t have to do anything about it. I haven’t decided what will be my next project,” she added.

“VIP 2” is Soundarya’s first live-action film. She had previously directed her father Rajinikanth in motion capture animated film “Kochadaiiyaan”.

Talking about the success of “VIP 2”, she said: “I’m thrilled with this kind of response and I’m overwhelmed. I need to thank Dhanush for having faith in me.”

Dhanush and Kajol in VIP 2Dhanush and Kajol in VIP 2

As Dhanush and Kajol starrer VIP2 hits the screens today, producer-director Soundarya Rajinikanth finds herself in trouble. The dialogue writers of Lalkar, the Hindi version of the film, are crying foul over non-payment of dues. Aanand and Swati Goradiya, who came on board as dialogue writers in June-end, claim that they have been seeking their remuneration for the past one-and-a-half month, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Says Aanand, “Before we came on board, another writer had done a literal translation of the dialogues from Tamil to Hindi. We were approached towards the end of June. We were told that Kajol was unhappy with the Hindi dialogues, she felt they lacked punch. So the makers decided to approach us.”

The writer couple claims that they had completed the dialogues in four days flat. They further add that since July, they have been sending repeated reminders to the producers but they have all come to naught. “We were given a signing amount at the start. Since mid-July, we have been asking for the balance amount, but all we get are excuses. First, they claimed that the strike in the South film industry had severely affected them. Then, they claimed that the film’s release was postponed, which again was a cause of tension for them.” He adds, “I do not think we have even been credited in the Hindi version.”

When contacted, the film’s spokesperson says, “As Soundarya and team were tied up with the film’s promotions, the payment got delayed. It’s a human error, which will be rectified soon. There was no mail or statement sent to the producers regarding the dues. The writers are trying to gain mileage.”

sanjay_jail28_1cActor Sanjay Dutt should return to jail if he was allowed parole because of his VIP status, the Maharashtra government said today in court.

Last month, the Bombay High Court asked the state government to justify its decision to allow the 57-year-old actor to leave jail before he completed his five-year sentence.

He was freed eight months ahead of schedule for “good behaviour.” Today, judges asked the government to furnish a new statement explaining what criteria of “good behaviour” were applied to the actor.

But even while doing time, Mr Dutt was allowed to leave jail on multiple occasions, adding upto more than 100 free days, which raised concerns and criticism of whether he was being given VIP treatment.

“How did the authorities assess that Dutt’s conduct was good? When did they get the time to make such assessment when he was out on parole half the time?” asked a judge at the Bombay High Court last month.

The case is based on a Public Interest Litigation or PIL. “If the rules were flouted in giving him parole or furlough, then the government has no objection in sending him back to jail,” the state’s lawyer said in court today.

Mr Dutt, 57, was convicted in 2013 by the Supreme Court of acquiring illegal guns from the men convicted of the serial bombings in Mumbai in 1993 in which more than 250 people were killed.

In 2007, Mr Dutt, whose most recent success came from the Munnnabhai films, was cleared of conspiracy charges in the Mumbai serial blasts but was found guilty of illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle and a pistol, which he claimed he required to protect his family during a period of rioting in the city.

The actor spent 18 months in prison, but was released on bail till the Supreme Court ordered him back to the Yerwada prison in Pune for the remaining 42 months of his sentence.

Rajkumar Hirani, who directed him in the Munnabhai films, is making a biopic on him with actor Ranbir Kapoor playing Mr Dutt.

Kamal Hassan-SasikalaKamal Hassan and Sasikala

Ever since Kamal Hassan has become the host of Bigg Boss Tamil, he has been in the centre of controversies. Recently, members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi were seen holding a protest outside the house of the Tamil cinema superstar in Chennai, demanding his arrest for allegedly corrupting the society by using abusive words on the controversial reality show.

Puthiya Tamizhagam leader K Krishnaswamy had also threatened to file a ‘defamation’ case against the channel for a derogatory statement made by a contestant on the reality show.

The show and the veteran actor have landed in another controversy as he allegedly took a dig at Sasikala. During the elimination round participant Namitha told Kamal, that living in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house was like living in a VIP jail. To which Kamal Hassan said that there is another VIP jail. This was a dig at AIADMK politician Sasikala who is in Bangalore jail and was panned for getting supposed ‘VIP’ treatment there.

This is not the first time that Kamal Hassan has targeted the AIADMK politician, Sasikala.
