You might have heard horrific tales, stories that can scare the hell out of you. But have you experienced any? Well, nobody in life plans to experience things that can give you scary dreams but we often like watching it on our TV screens.

Remember when The Ring was released, there were claims that people couldn’t even watch it and some even had experienced a heart attack in the theatre. Looks like something similar is happening now as well.

A new TV show was premiered and it is so dark and twisted that viewers can’t even make it through the first episode. We guess this is enough to intrigue our interest about the show.

Jessica Biel who is known for her roles in The Texas Massacre and The Illusionist is back on TV and is already scaring the hell out of people with her new drama called The Sinner.

The first episode has garnered an amazing reaction and has received a scoring of 92% on Rotton Tomatoes and 7.7/10 on IMDB. One has got to say that it is an incredible rating keeping in mind that just the first episode was aired a couple of days ago.

Wondering who is Cora and what is The Sinner all about?

The story revolves around a young mother named Cora Tannetti, who suffers from depression. She is living a normal life but things change when out of nowhere she stabs a man to death while she was on the beach with her family.

What makes this even more complicated is the fact that Cora doesn’t even know this person whom she killed. Which eventually makes the plot more interesting and raises questions like, “Why did she kill him? What made her do this? What happened that she killed a man out of the blue?”

Well, these questions are yet to be answered and we hope the upcoming episodes spill the beans. Till then check out the trailer and decide if this show is your cup of tea or not.

She has often been labelled arrogant, demanding and stubborn, but Hina Khan knows better than to let any of it affect her. After playing the traditional bahu in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai for eight years, Khan decided to mix things up — so out went the docility and in came daredevilry.

She’s back from a two-month-long shoot of Khatron Ke Khiladi [KKK] Season 8 where she gained new friends and lost most of her fears.

Edited excerpts from the interview:

What made you switch from fiction to reality TV?
Doing Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai had become monotonous for me. That’s why I decided to quit the show. I wanted a drastic shift in my career and KKK proved dramatically different.

Everyone believes Geeta Phogat is the strongest female contender on the show. Do you agree?
Before leaving [for the shoot], I was convinced she is the strongest contestant. But this season, the girls have surpassed themselves. They’ve all done such a fabulous job. Even I surprised myself.

You’ve lost a lot of weight post your exit from Yeh Rishta… Was it for KKK?
The show was offered to me in April. Ten days after I quit Yeh Rishta…, I hit the gym since I wanted to be fit. I am not someone who works out at the gym, but it felt great. My body has been in much
better shape since then.

Between the two shows, what have you been occupied with?
The daily soap didn’t allow me time to pamper myself. After I quit Yeh Rishta… I went on a holiday to London and Spain. I enjoyed relaxing at home all day, skipping social outings. In fact, my parents thought I was going through depression. But I explained that after eight years, I was finally glad to do nothing. I loved the peace
and quiet.

Is marriage on the cards?
I’ve got far too many marriage proposals, but not from men (laughs). They’ve all been from their mothers, who want a bahu like Akshara [her last character]. I will marry when I’m ready. I still have a few years before that.

Doesn’t matter you are a diehard series fan or not, we bet you have heard of ‘Sherlock’. If not, then you are living under a rock man! From dominating Emmy Awards in 2014 to making it this popular around the globe, ‘Sherlock’ is one of the best TV series and many would agree with me.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are mind-blowing fantastic and don’t even get me started on their bromance that makes you adore these two even more. But still, there are many who are cynical about this show and fail to understand why is it so well-liked by the viewers. Believe it or not, being so skeptical can be dangerous for you, keeping in mind how crazy people are for this show.

Understanding that many of you still fail to get the aforesaid points, here are few things you might want to think twice before you utter it in front of a ‘Sherlock’ fan.

Just 3 episodes per season? That’s ridiculous!

Sherlock (c) Giphy

Ever heard of the expression quality over quantity? You know what else sounds ridiculous, you and your words. If you would have ever tried to watch even one episode of the show, you would understand why Sherlock doesn’t need lavish amounts of screen time. Just a few minutes into the show and you instantly end up loving it, but then you are used to watching Ekta Kapoor drama, so it’s obvious for you to say this.

I hate that British accent

Sherlock (c) Giphy

Bullshit, darling. You just don’t get it, isn’t it? But then have you ever heard of a thing called subtitles? They’re meant for people like you! Now you get it?

Sherlock’s deductive skills are just so unrealistic!

Sherlock(c) Giphy

Oh is that the thing? Have you ever heard of something extraordinary? If you so want realistic drama then just stop visiting TV series. Still, want to stick to your opinion? Then I disown you.

Martin Freeman is in Sherlock! I loved him in Bruce Almighty

Sherlock (c) Giphy

*Slow claps* You spotted Morgan in Sherlock? I am sure the makers missed that bit too. Besides their last name and the knack to express on-screen, the two actors have nothing in common. Now please get your facts straight, and then open your mouth.

All the skills in the world but no money!

Sherlock(c) Giphy

Well, you don’t have either of them. So please stop talking…..right this moment!

I can’t believe that Sherlock won so many Emmy awards. He just spoke very fast, not really acted

Sherlock(c) Giphy

You don’t like peace, do you? Only if your intellect was straight would you appreciate that awesomeness of Sherlock and the well-deserved recognition that it is finally getting. But then you have a low IQ, not your fault!

Byomkesh Bakshi is better than Sherlock

Sherlock(c) Giphy

What is it exactly that you don’t find appealing? His perfect cheekbones? His amazing one-liners? Is there anything you like except your douche face? Now, that’s the door!

Sherlock is simply a psycho

Sherlock (c) Giphy

If you don’t know the difference between a high functioning socio path and a psycho, God Bless you, child!

Feel, the need to watch Sherlock now and understand what is this craze all about? Then watch the Sherlock marathon airing in India from 24th July and experience the fever yourself. There are high chances you might become a fan yourself and if you still can’t get it…then it’s all about IQ, darling.

salmanHe rules the roost as far as the Bollywood box office is concerned, but Salman Khan feels no one should lose any money even if a film doesn’t do well. HT caught up with him around his film, Tubelight’s release to talk about box office pressures, being on Forbes’ list, and more.

What goes through your mind around a new film’s release?
Towards the end [of the shooting] of a film or when it’s about to release, we concentrate on getting the right length and ensuring that the right product is delivered. So, whatever goes on in my head is when I’m signing a movie or hearing a script. Making a decision to do a film is the most difficult part. If I don’t like a script, no one can convince me by saying, ‘kar le yaar’ (do the film). But once I’ve made that decision, I am sorted, because I know I have taken the right call.

So, what’s your criterion to choose a film?
I only choose films that I would be interested in watching myself. Even if it was somebody else’s film and I saw the promo and liked it, I should want to go to the theatre and watch it. Also, if someone sees a poster or a song, one should be curious about that film’s release.

With so much expectation from you, do you ever feel pressure?

Everyone wants [their films to do] big numbers. We all want our films to make Rs 500, Rs 600 or Rs 700 crore, and one should aim for that. But if you don’t make such numbers, then the most important thing is that no one should lose any money. My principle is also the same: if a film does such numbers, it’s very good, but no one should lose any money.

Recently, you were featured in Forbes’ list of the world’s most-paid actors. How much does money matter to you?
Money matters to everyone, but I don’t know on what basis they included me in the list. There are billions of people who have a trillion times more money than I could ever have. As for me, I am still falling short [of money] to buy a house. Earlier, I would fall short by a few lakh, and then it became a few crores, then it reached Rs 20-25 crores, and now, by a few more crores, so, I always fall short.

Rumours suggest that you are going to buy a new place…
Yes, let’s see. We are still checking out some places. Ghar toh le lunga (I’ll buy a house), but this [Galaxy Apartments] will always be home. Even today, whenever Sohail (Khan; brother), Arbaaz (Khan; brother), Baby (Alvira Agnihotri; sister) or Arpita (Khan Sharma; sister) say they are ‘coming home’ or tell someone to ‘come home’, they mean Galaxy. Everyone knows that ‘home’ doesn’t mean where Baby, Arpita, Sohail or Arbaaz live.

Recently, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion did the kind of numbers that your films usually do…
For Baahubali’s success, the credit goes to the writer and the director. It’s written by the same writer, KV Vijayendra Prasad, who also wrote Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and he is a phenomenal man. His son, SS Rajamouli, is one of the best directors that we have in our country. Having said that, it’s amazing that the Hindi film audience accepted a regional film and made it such a big hit. It means they truly love cinema. They want to go to the theatre and watch a good film, no matter if it is a Tamil, Telugu or English film.

But isn’t it a good trend to have set in?
Absolutely, also it’s our audience’s large-heartedness that they watched Baahubali 2 repeatedly, appreciated it and helped the film achieve such numbers. If it wasn’t releasing in Hindi, it wouldn’t have done so well. So, the credit goes to the director, the writer, and a huge amount of credit goes to Hindi cine-goers, who weren’t biased towards Hindi films. It’s all about watching a good film.

In the recent past, a few of your comments have created controversies. Is that frustrating?
Everyone shares their opinion but when somebody like me says something, it’s twisted around. Then, a [TV] show runs [the comment], and it gets good TRPs. But if it’s their business, let them do it. The other option for me is to just stop talking. I hate doing interviews, and I get bored of them but I do them because if a fan of mine picks up a newspaper or a magazine; or watches a TV channel, he should know that a certain film of mine is up for release. That’s all.

But hasn’t the intense media focus become part-and-parcel of being an actor?
Till before Jaan-E-Mann (2006), I never stepped out of my house for interviews. When did I do any publicity for any film? The films would still run and became big hits. But now that a precedent [of doing interviews] has set in, so it’s going on. Now, if I go on a TV show (for promotions), it feels good if their TRPs get boosted. Also, through that show, my fans will get to see me at home for free. That’s the only intent of doing all of that. But then, a lot of times, journalists want a reaction about something because either their bosses have asked them for that or they want to make a name for themselves. But that’s wrong journalism, which I don’t appreciate at all.

Coming to films, what’s your personal take on the power of cinema?
I believe that when people watch good cinema with noble characters — featuring their favourite stars or even not so favourite ones — those films work and influence people’s hearts and minds. Those people turn into better human beings once they are out of the cinema halls. Cinema is the only medium wherein one goes inside a theatre and comes out a better and different person in two-and-a-half hours. I totally believe that. In such a case, even if a film stars someone’s not so favourite actors, they become favourites if they play that character well.

And what about negative roles?
Even when you watch a negative character being played by an actor, who is performing really well, you would still never want to be that person. You want to see him getting beaten up and die. But, in a way, that negative character also changes you. So, the audience thinks, ‘I don’t want to be like this. I want to be like the hero.’

What are your upcoming projects?
There’s Tiger Zinda Hai followed by Remo’s (D’Souza) film, and then, there is Dabangg 3. For the time being, I am doing only these three.

Are you excited about going back to being Chulbul Pandey?
Yes, I am very excited. We have got a very good script too that has the same characters but this will be on a different level altogether.

Is Prabhudheva directing it?
Yes, we are in talks [with him].

Shoojit SircarShoojit Sircar

Looks like filmmaker Shoojit Sircar had been tuning into children’s reality shows and was appalled by what the youngsters had to go through. Yesterday, the Piku (2015) director made a clarion call to ban reality TV shows that have children as participants. He tweeted, “Humble request to authorities to urgently ban reality shows involving children. It’s destroying them emotionally and their purity (sic).”

The shows on air currently range from finding the kid with the perfect voice to the one with the best comic timing. Earlier this year, Shoojit had directed a short film, Release The Pressure, to create awareness among parents about their kids’ performance anxiety.

‘Bigg Boss 9’ contestant Mandana Karimi, who married businessman Gaurav Gupta on January 25, filed a domestic violence case at Andheri magistrate court on Monday. Her petition mentioned that Gupta insisted on her conversion to Hinduism ahead of their wedding. The Iranian model-actress was also asked to quit her acting career as the profession was deemed “incompatible with his family’s status in the society”. Things came to a head when Gupta barred her from entering the house. She also alleged harassment by her mother-in-law.

When we contacted Mandana Karimi, she said, “I was thrown out of my matrimonial house seven weeks ago. I made desperate attempts to reconcile with them, but my in-laws didn’t allow me back. Gaurav has cut me off.” Karimi’s lawyer Madhukar Dalvi said that the matter is now in court and that they would contest it as per law. Gupta’s PR said he was unavailable to comment on the case.
