Imtiaz Ali and Ranbir Kapoor make a team that is a balm for every achy heart out there. The man who gave us beautiful tales with effortless storytelling in the form of ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’ , and the insanely good looking star who can act flawlessly are apparently coming together , yet again.

‘Rockstar’ is as cult a film as you can get. ‘Tamasha’ didn’t do too well commercially but definitely struck a chord with all hearts. Ranbir and Deepika’s love hate chemistry in ‘Agar Tum Sath Ho’ was on another level.

The beauty of the movies that Imtiaz makes is that they tell the tales of the fragility of the heart in a beautiful, simple way. So the rumours mills are churning out news that Imtiaz has approached Ranbir with a prospective idea and he’s even got his nod for it.

According to sources, “Ranbir will be a part of Imtiaz’s next film. That’s not all, the actor will go through a massive transformation for this film as well. Imtiaz plans to show the different stages of the character’s life in the film.”  If you followed Ranbir’s interviews, you’d know that he’s announced how he’s done working on coming-of-age films. So the interesting part would be to see what this third collaboration will look like.

Ranbir is currently gearing up for the Sanjay Dutt biopic and Imtiaz recently earned a bit of flak from fans after his latest venture , ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ flopped at the box office. The movie starred Anushka and SRK in the lead roles but still failed to impress fans. This new announcement sounds like a rainbow after a long day of rain and we actually cannot wait to see what happens with this collaboration. If they get Deepika on board as well, then it will be double whammy!

Karan-Johar-Ranbir-KapoorOtherwise restrained when discussing his forthcoming ventures, Karan Johar was uninhibited while addressing the press on his production house’s superhero venture, tentatively titled Dragon. “It will be a trilogy and is the most ambitious film we’ve worked on,” Johar said, as he heaped praise on his leading man, Ranbir Kapoor. “Ranbir is a big part of Dharma. We have had a great innings with him so far and are looking forward to the next one.”

Addressing the media at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Johar said the unit will commence shooting on the currently-untitled film in October or November. “The title will be decided within a month. We have spent a lot of time on the script.”

Even though he is among the most celebrated names in the industry, with hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2001) and Dostana (2003) to his credit, Karan Johar feels his contribution to cinema has been limited. The producer-filmmaker says he’s yet to taste the success that those who helmed the likes of Rang De Basanti (2006) and Lagaan (2001) did. With his hopes pinned on this Ayan Mukerji-directed film, we hear Johar even requested that the former rework the script to make Ranbir Kapoor’s character stronger. “I am willing to take the risk of making this film because I’m craving to make my mark in Indian cinema. Dangal (2016) has opened the doors for actors, who are now willing to get out of their comfort zone. Cinema needs a new order. We need to break the system and build it such that we only offer a hefty paycheck to actors if the script is given the same amount of importance. We should spend the money on building the film and writing the content instead of paying exorbitant fees to stars.”

Ranbir Kapoor with father Rishi Kapoor and Anurag BasuRanbir Kapoor with father Rishi Kapoor and Anurag Basu

Whatever Rishi Kapoor said was just to protect him, feels Ranbir Kapoor in regard to his father’s criticism on his recent release, Jagga Jasoos.

“My father is an emotional man. I think he was only protecting me,” Ranbir said at the trailer launch of Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film Bhoomi yesterday, when asked what he thinks of his father’s take on his recently released Anurag Basu-directorial.

He added, “I don’t necessarily agree with what he said. We worked on Jagga Jasoos for three years and we knew what we were doing and how it was being made. Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail. I don’t look at it as failure. I look at it as a learning experience. I cannot answer for somebody else, but I don’t necessarily agree with anybody else.”

In an interview with mid day, the 64-year-old had slammed Basu for being irresponsible with the film.

Soon after the release of Jagga Jasoos, that didn’t fare well at the box office, the veteran actor had said that even after three years of making, the film was incomplete and that Basu was cutting it even two days before the release.

Navya Naveli Nanda is veteran actor Jaya Bachchan’s favourite grandchild. Don’t believe us? She’ll tell you herself. “I’m her favourite grandchild,” she says. See?

The communications major is equally close to her mother, Shweta. At an age when most teenagers love to oppose their parents, Navya, 19, tells Vogue India in her first exclusive interview out in their August edition, that she and Shweta are “best friends”.

It comes as no surprise then that Navya’s decision to keep an arm’s length from the film industry has something to do with Shweta’s advice. “I really try to tell Navya about all the cons [of being a part of the film industry]. I have nothing against the industry, it’s who we are. But, it’s not an easy world to be in,” the mother says. The trick works, as the star kid asserts there’s “no way” she’ll make a career in acting.

Instead, she is enjoying her internship at an advertising agency while on a break from studying at a New York university. “I love the independence,” she says about life in Manhattan, where she spends mornings attending a spinning class, trawling the city streets and relishing meals with friends at her favourite restaurant, Serafina.

While Shweta doesn’t believe Navya has taken after either of her parents, the young girl appears to mirror certain qualities of her mother — she is confident, self-aware and polite. She has also inherited a love for reading, and wants everything from her mother’s closet, including her shoes.

The banter between a mother and daughter, common in every household, is evident during the interview. Whenever Shweta interjects, Navya shoots back. “I’m being nice about you but you know this interview can go both ways,” she says. “She [Shweta] uses all the wrong lingo…

And she has to punctuate everything! It drives me crazy,” Navya rolls her eyes.

This friendly discourse takes a serious turn when the teenager attracts unwarranted attention via her social media presence. With an Instagram account that boasts of 1,60,000 followers, Navya is among those leading her tribe. “I’ve been lucky to be quite away from it all,” she shrugs, adding that it’s only when her mother calls her seeking answers, that she’s aware of how public her private life is.

Such is the bond between the Bachchan women that even grandmother Jaya, known to be the family disciplinarian, is more light-hearted around Navya. “I can get away with pretty much anything,” Navya says, adding that the trips she takes with Shweta and Jaya throw up the best memories. The most recent one was to the Maldives, where she took a couple’s massage with Jaya since Shweta hates the spa, and also went jet skiing with her mother. Next on the cards is a safari trip. “They [Jaya and Shweta] are both so OCD, I can’t wait to see them freaking out in the outdoors.”

Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay DuttRanbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt

Ranbir Kapoor says the upcoming biopic on Sanjay Dutt will deal with both the highs and lows of the actor’s life.

Ranbir says Dutt has been very gracious in providing insights about his life story in an honest way for the biopic being helmed by Rajkumar Hirani. “He hasn’t been a hypocrite about it (his life). So it’s not a propaganda film trying to portray him as God or something. “We are trying to show a very human side of Sanjay Dutt, his perils, his downfall, his will to fight, his time in jail, terrorism charges, his drug phase, how he handled his mother’s death two days before the release of his debut film, his relationship with his father. These were human conflicts in
his life,” Ranbir told PTI.

Ranbir, who plays Dutt in the movie, says doing the biopic was daunting initially. “He is such a relevant person even today. He is so much
loved even today. He is controversial. But when you have Rajkumar Hirani as the director and Abhijat Joshi as the writer and the character like Sanjay Dutt, you are somewhere cushioned,” he says. From getting into the skin of the character to getting the body language right, the ‘Jagga Jasoos’ star had to put in a lot of hard work to get every aspect of Dutt correct. “Getting the look right is very superficial, it is easy as you have help from make-up and computer graphics. To show Sanjay Dutt as a human being, as a biopic only works when you show the human side of a person, and not the glories but the downfall as well (was not easy).”

Though Ranbir seems to have got the look right, he is extremely nervous about the film. “I don’t know if I have nailed it or not (referring to
the film). I was very inspired (doing this film). We have a few days left now for the film. It’s a very new me, so I am excited to see how the audience reacts. It should be out on March 30 next year,” he says. There were rumours that the ‘Khalnayak’ track will be
recreated in the biopic but Ranbir says that’s not true. “We have not touched upon the ‘Khalnayak’ phase. This film doesn’t talk about Sanjay Dutt the hero, but Sanjay Dutt’s life. We have touched upon his few films like the first one ‘Rocky’, ‘Munnabhai MBBS’,” he says.

The film also features Manisha Koirala as late Nargis Dutt, Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt and Dia Mirza as Dutt’s present wife Maanayata Dutt

salman_ranbirBollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, whose debut production “Jagga Jasoos” released this Friday, says that everybody should make money and not just the producers.

The actor, who was present at a promotional event, was asked about his take on superstar Salman Khan, compensating for the loss to the distributors due to his last release “Tubelight”.

“It’s been going on for years. My grandfather was a producer from 1950 and I think this home style of making films — where everybody makes money not just the producer, the distributor and exhibitors — is a very healthy exercise. It’s very good to compensate when somebody loses money on something where you have kind of made money. But of course it depends from person to person and from film to film,” the “Rockstar” actor said.

Grandson of Raj Kapoor and great-grandson of Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Ranbir said that compensating for the losses runs in the family.
“Films like ‘Mera Nam Joker’ had heavy losses, so when grandfather released his film ‘Bobby’, he gave more of a percentage to the distributors and exhibitors. They maintained a sense of balance in it. Personally, if my film had losses and I was making money out of it, I would definitely compensate,” he said.

Speaking about the Amarnath attack, the “Tamasha” actor said: “It’s completely an act of horror, my condolences to the families and the victims. I will try and contribute as much as possible. I think at times like these when the country has to unite, people from every corner of society should come together. I don’t understand the gain out of terrorism or why people do it. It is the worst side of human nature; it’s very shameful that it’s happening within our world.”

“Jagga Jasoos” directed by Anurag Basu, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, and Sayani Gupta tells a story of a teenage detective in search of his missing father. The film released in theaters on July 14.

govinda_660_102813020220A couple of days ago, Govinda was really angry with the makers of Jagga Jasoos for chopping off his scenes from the film. Now, Ranbir Kapoor, one of the producers of the film, has responded to it. He is very apologetic in his clarification and says that it’s ‘irresponsible’ but necessary for the sake of his film.

In a conversation with DNA, Ranbir said, “Unfortunately, the entire track has been chopped off; it is our fault, Basu and mine. We had started this film prematurely, without a complete script. The character had completely changed, and the film was taking so long.”

He further said, “It is very irresponsible, and very unfair to cast a great legend like Govinda and not do justice to his role. We are apologetic, but it is the best thing for the film so we had to cut that track out.”

Directed by Anurag Basu, Jagga Jasoos also features Katrina Kaif in an important role.
