Madhuri Dixit’s team is planning a surprise for the actor on her big day

Madhuri Dixit Nene

Madhuri Dixit turns a year older today. She’s currently busy promoting her first Marathi film, Bucket List, and simultaneously shooting for her two Bollywood films, Total Dhamaal and Kalank. She is also tied up with her maiden Marathi production, 15th August. It will be a working birthday for Mads even though her team is planning a surprise for the actor on her big day. We are sure hubby Sriram Nene and sons, Arin and Rayaan also have something lined up.

Spending over three decades in the industry hasn’t taken away from Madhuri Dixit-Nene‘s enthusiasm in trying her hand at something new. After 34 years of facing the arc lights, the actor is making her debut in Marathi cinema with Bucket List. “I received a few offers in my mother tongue earlier, but nothing excited me as much as Bucket List. I found my character extremely relatable,” says Dixit, who plays a housewife who gets a new lease of life after a heart transplant.

Last seen on the big screen in Gulaab Gang (2014), Dixit is now raring to go — she has launched her production house RNM Moving Pictures. Enjoying her role as producer, she says, “There are such good subjects in Marathi cinema. Also, there are stars in Marathi films but they aren’t as big as the ones in Hindi film industry. Content is always the star here.”

Filmmaker Karan Johar is in mood to take up full-fledged acting jobs. The director-producer, who made his acting debut in Hindi films with Anurag Kashyap’s box office debacle, Bombay Velvet, believes he is a “big flop actor”.

Karan was recently seen in Welcome to New York and the film, featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Diljit Dosanjh, also bombed. When asked if he would like to take up acting offers in Marathi cinema, Karan said, “I am a big flop actor. None of my films run. I did ‘Bombay Velvet’ and ‘Welcome to New York’. and both didn’t work. Nobody should cast me in any film. I should not be taken. No viability with me. I am a very big flop actor.”

The filmmaker, however, is ok doing cameo appearances in movies. Karan Johar was speaking at the trailer launch of Bucket List, a Marathi film that the he is presenting. The film marks dancing diva Madhuri Dixit‘s debut in Marathi cinema. Meanwhile, when prodded about “Kalank”, that brings Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri on the big screen together after a gap of more than two decades, Karan refused to comment saying, “it is not the right time to talk about it”.

In a conversation with Neha Dhupia during a segment called, ‘Scary Spice’ on BFFs with Vogue, Juhi Chawla made quite a revelation from her past

Juhi Chawla
Juhi Chawla

The next episode of BFFs with Vogue will have the legendary actors Jackie Shroff and Juhi Chawla in a sassy conversation with the host, Neha Dhupia. Very few know that Jackie and Juhi share a very thick bond. Well, we have all seen Jackie Shroff spilling some of his intimate secrets on Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan. It would be interesting to see Juhi Chawla, who has a sweet demeanour, reveal her candid best on talk-show BFFs with Vogue.

In a conversation with Neha Dhupia during a segment called, ‘Scary Spice’ on BFFs with Vogue on Colors Infinity, Juhi Chawla made quite a revelation from her past. Neha, at her best to get the celebrities to spill the beans, asked Juhi, “Your most bitter-rivalry was with which star?” Juhi was extremely hesitant to answer this until Neha toned the question down further and called it a “healthy competition”. To which Juhi smiled and replied saying ‘Madhuri Dixit’.

In the day and age where not everybody openly talks about their rivalries, it’s surprising to see veteran actresses name their rivals from the fraternity. Should the millennial actors be learning this or are is it better to keep it shush?

These 90s actresses were at their peak during their active Bollywood reign. However, they never shared the screen space together back then but it was in 2014 that they did a film Gulaab Gang. This proved that their rivalry was only a thing in the past.

Speaking of Jackie and Juhi, they have done films like Aaina, Shatranj, Bandish, and Gang amongst others.

Jacqueline Fernandez to add her spark to the iconic Madhuri Dixit number ‘Ek Do Teen’ from ‘Tezaab’ for the upcoming film ‘Baaghi 2’

Jacqueline Fernandez
Jacqueline Fernandez will step into the shoes of Madhuri Dixit for ‘Ek Do Teen’ dance number.

Jacqueline Fernandez got the nation dancing to her tunes as she recreated the iconic chartbusters ‘Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12’ and ‘Oonchi Hai Building’ for Judwaa 2. After winning the audience’s hearts with Judwaa 2, who better than Jacqueline to add her spark to the iconic Madhuri Dixit number ‘Ek Do Teen’. She has proven that she can rock the iconic tracks with her brilliant charisma. Recreating one of the most iconic numbers in Bollywood which was immortalised by the dancing diva Madhuri Dixit, Jacqueline Fernandez is all set to spread her charm once again.

The popular ‘Tezaab’ track, ‘Ek Do Teen’ was choreographed by veteran choreographer Saroj Khan. Interestingly the recreated version will bring back the original team as Ahmed Khan who directs ‘Baaghi 2’ was the assistant of Saroj Khan back then and Ganesh Acharya who will choreograph Jacqueline Fernandez for the remake was a background dancer in the original.

Seeking blessings from Saroj Khan, director Ahmed Khan is all set to give the chartbuster a modern twist with Jacqueline Fernandez. Ahmed Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez had earlier collaborated for chartbusters like ‘Chittiyan Kalaiyan’, ‘Lat Lag Gayee’ and ‘Jumme Ki Raat’.

Disclosing details of the shoot, Ahmed Khan said,”There will be three choreographers on the set today, that’s a picture perfect moment in itself!”. He further added, “It’s an all-time favourite and I have asked Ganesh to retain Sarojji’s famous hook steps and Manish Malhotra to keep Madhuri Dixit’s pink outfit in mind while designing Jacqueline’s costume. I want the same feel of the earlier song that still looms large on everyone’s mind and also the same vibe, with the crowds chanting ‘Mohini, Mohini’ as Madhuri takes the stage”.

While expressing his thoughts on Jacqueline slipping into Madhuri Dixit’s shoes, Ahmed Khan said,”She’s the perfect choice”.

‘Baaghi 2’ is the sequel to the 2016 superhit ‘Baaghi’. After the success of ‘Heropanti’ and ‘Baaghi’, Tiger Shroff and Sajid Nadiadwala are all set to collaborate for the third time.

Starring rumoured couple Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani in the lead, ‘Baaghi 2’ is one of the most awaited films of the year.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner name Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and presented by Fox Star Studios, ‘Baaghi 2’ is directed by Ahmed Khan. The film is scheduled to release on March 30, 2018.

Comedy is a genre that comparatively fewer actresses in Bollywood have attempted and were able to master. It is a genre that has managed to break stereotypes

Comedy is a genre that comparatively fewer actresses in Bollywood have attempted and were able to master. It is a genre that has managed to break stereotypes. For instance, Amitabh Bachchan was known as the ‘Angry Young Man’ till he aced comedy in ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. Richa Chadha is known for her serious portrayals in films such as ‘Masaan’ but arguably is best remembered for her performance in a quirky comic role as ‘Bholi Punjaban’ from Fukrey.

Richa Chadha

Even though Richa Chadha’s onscreen persona is often tough, she has great comic timing. She seeks inspiration in her work from two iconic actresses, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. Shekhar Kapoor recently said that his most memorable shooting experience was when Sridevi imitated Charlie Chaplin, in the film Mr.India. Their proven skills in comedy once ruled the Bollywood. Films like Chalbaaz, Mr. India, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Jamai Raja, Khel amongst many other comedy hit films of the time.

In other words, it wouldn’t be wrong saying Richa draws inspiration from these senior actresses who have the capability to bring a smile to the audience face with her quirky comedy style onscreen. Richa’s next Fukrey Returns is soon to hit the theatres where she will reprise the character of Bholi Punjaban. In fact, the straightforward actress has a new-found love for comedy and made her TV debut with a comedy reality talent hunt, ‘The Queens of Comedy’ that aired last month on TLC.

Speaking of which Richa said, “I like performance that finds humour in otherwise dark situations. Fukrey is an out and out comedy, and I had a blast playing this OTT vamp. I feel actresses in the past brought to life more dimensions, even to mundane characters and scripts. Sridevi was at once sensual and hilarious in Mr. India. Madhuri Ma’am was empowered but and an excellent mimic. Now I feel, at best, without meaning to, people often look like poor parody’s of the work of past greats.”

Two decades after she made dancing atop a car and sporting a waist belt popular in the track Akhiyan Milaoon Kabhi Akhiyan Churaoon (Raja, 1995) Madhuri Dixit-Nene is set to reprise the song with co-star Sanjay Kapoor for the latter’s TV show. Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara, which sees Kapoor romance a girl significantly younger than him, will feature Nene in a special appearance at the behest of show producer Vikram Bhatt.

A source tells mid-day, “It was Vikram’s idea to extend an invitation to Madhuri. He bounced it off Sanjay , who was happy to match steps with his former co-star again.”

Although Indra Kumar’s directorial venture had several hit tracks, the makers decided to use this song for the show, given that it is Kapoor’s favourite. “It’s special for me. People still remember the song and its steps. It will be a nostalgic moment for me to recreate the song with Madhuri on TV,” he says.

The upcoming episodes of the show will focus on the nuptials of Kapoor’s character with his love interest. Nene will feature as Kapoor’s old friend, who turns up to be part of the wedding festivities. She will shake a leg with him during the sangeet ceremony. The source adds, “Madhuri will shoot for the sequence in a few days. She has already begun rehearsing. It’s fun to see Sanjay and Madhuri reunite for the song. The episode will air later this month.”

The original number, rendered by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, was composed by Nadeem-Shravan. It had Nene and Kapoor dancing around a vintage car in a warehouse. Nene, we hear, shares a rapport with the Kapoor brothers — Boney, Anil and Sanjay — and gave her nod to be part of the show immediately.
