Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor is the uncrowned queen of entertainment as she rules not just the television industry but also has a commendable hold over feature films. Recently having ventured into the digital space with ALT Balaji, Ekta Kapoor is creating waves in the online medium as well.

Hailed to be the TRP Queen and the pioneer of daily soap entertainment, Ekta Kapoor solely changed the face of Indian TV. After conquering TV, the content czarina is leaving impressive imprints on the cine-goers. Ekta Kapoor clearly knows the pulse of viewers across the platform as she gave us movies based on different genres.

When asked about her varied content presented by her, the filmmaker replied, “I don’t know about versatility but I just believe that I like telling a lot of stories I probably have told more than anyone else. There are more than 1 lakh episodes on television, but I definitely believe that every story chooses its medium and I am lucky I have the opportunity to do all three. I don’t think I am the only person who has dabbled with all 3 mediums but probably the only person who at least got a chance to do that.”

Her latest domain being the Digital platform, Ekta has tailor-made content for the online audience. She has her own digital video streaming service where she brings in content for the younger generation who prefer watching content on their phones as opposed to Television.

Sidharth Malhotra is all set to reunite with Ekta Kapoor after more than three years for a love story which is yet to decide on its title

After making his fans woo with his intense role and acting expertise in Mohit Suri’s action-thriller Ek Villian in 2014, Sidharth Malhotra is all set to reunite with Ekta Kapoor after more than three years for a love story which is yet to decide on its title. The film is expected to go on floor this year.

Confirming the new project, a source close to the development said, “It’s a small town love story with edgy characters. As soon as Ekta heard it, she immediately reached out to Sidharth. She believes it’s a great role and a perfect film for them to come together. The film is expected to roll in a couple of months. The makers will begin the reccee soon and zero in on a leading lady”.

Talking about the film Ek Villian, which was both critically acclaimed and a commercial success, the source added “The duo hopes to recreate the magic with their reunion”. We hope to see Sidharth Malhotra recreating his on-screen charm yet again with this upcoming romantic saga.

mid-day had earlier reported how Kangana Ranaut had requested Salman Khan to part with the title Mental since she was keen on naming her next so. Though that didn’t work out, producer Ekta Kapoor devised a way to get another title that she says is “more fitting” for the Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao-starrer – Mental Hai Kya.

Kapoor says that she wants to give a facelift to the thriller genre with this project. “This is one of my favourite scripts. We’ve tried to bend the genre by adding dollops of black humour to it. With the crazy looks, the aim is to redefine thrillers.”

The Prakash Kovelamudi-directed film sees Kapoor scoring a hat-trick with Kangana Ranaut and Rao. “I have worked with both of them before. Raj and Kangana teaming up together after Queen further adds to the excitement. They have always taken the road less travelled, and played characters that have been emotionally and physically challenging. As artistes, they are hungry for something different and I identify with this drive.”

Ekta Kapoor awarded as 'Sterling Icon of Indian Entertainment' at the ITA Awards

From being the Czarina of Indian television, being a producer who changed the game to now being the only woman entrepreneur to bring a revolutionary change on the digital platform, Ekta Kapoor is truly a force to reckon with! Hence it comes as no surprise that the Balaji head honcho was recently awarded the ‘Sterling Icon of Indian Entertainment’ award at the 17th edition of the Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards.

 Ekta’s colossal contribution to television, movie entertainment and now in the digital space with Alt Balaji, she continues to shape and have a huge impact on the Indian culture. The successful producer has explored a variety of genres, set trends and given actors and directors an opportunity to showcase their talent. With some of the longest running shows in the history of television to her credit, the ITA award solidifies the fact that the power producer is synonymous with Indian entertainment.

 While thanking everyone on stage, Ekta said, “Thank you Smriti Irani, Indian Television Academy, mom and dad. No award is complete without thanking my parents, my family, channel partners and the most important person in my life, Laksshya.”

'Veere Di Wedding' first look has turned up the heat this October

We are already experiencing the October heat and the first teaser poster of ‘Veere Di Wedding’ has set temperatures soaring. In the poster we see all four leading ladies Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhaskar dressed up in traditional wear and yet are looking extremely sultry. Sonam is zipping her dress, Shikha is pleating Kareena’s saree and Swara is wearing her ‘mojri’. You can even catch a glimpse of Swara’s cryptic tattoo and it looks hot!

The cast and crew shared the first official image from the film that also revealed that the mahurat will be out tomorrow. The vibrant colours blending into the image and the stunning outfits donned by the leading ladies make this first glimpse a delightful one. Their posts have taken the internet by storm keeping the digital audience on the edge to find out what will be announced tomorrow. Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor’s ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is still on floors and the cast and crew just successfully wrapped their Delhi schedule. Ekta Kapoor has shared the first look of the film on her Twitter profile.

However, we are left wondering why Sonam has held a Japanese flag which hides Kareena’s face. Is there some mystery behind it? Is it a part of the film’s storyline? Who knows, once the trailer is out, people can gauge further into this ‘mystique aspect’ of the first look.

Sonam Kapoor has also acquired the movie rights for the book series, ‘The Aryavarta Chronicles’. The bestseller series by Singapore-based author Krishna Udayasankar is a modern retelling of the epic Mahabharata through the novels ‘Govinda’, ‘Kaurava’ and ‘Kurukshetra’ that collectively comprise the series. The 32-year-old actor has previously bought the film rights of Anuja Chauhan’s novel ‘The Zoya Factor’.

The film was affected by the rumours of a catfight between Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. However, Sonam put out a Twitter post quashing all such rumours. The movie was also put on hold as Kareena was pregnant and expecting her first child with husband, Saif Ali Khan. Baby Taimur Ali Khan was born in December last year, post which she started shooting for ‘Veerey Di Wedding’.

Tusshar Kapoor to launch production house, says sister Ekta won't be part of it

“Production has been on my mind for a while,” says Tusshar Kapoor, as he shares with mid-day his love for stories. While the prospect had lingered in his mind in the past, he is now considering it earnestly.

“The idea is a concrete one. There are a few stories on my mind that I wish to produce, but production is a full-time job. It can be exhausting. I am committed as an actor, and do not wish to leave acting to pursue production. So, striking a balance will be necessary,” says Kapoor. He adds that while he isn’t certain of when he will make his debut, the idea of venturing into production is playing on his mind “all the time.”

Given that sister Ekta has made a mark as producer, both in films and television, one might assume that Kapoor could benefit from collaborating with her. However, the actor talks about starting out alone. “I want an entity that’s entirely mine. Ekta and I have distinct tastes, and equally strong opinions. We live under the same roof, so, I think it’s okay to have separate work identities. Of course, we always have each other’s back.”

Kapoor returned to acting after a paternity break following the birth of his son, Laksshya, in June 2016. He was certain to take his tiny tot on the sets of Golmaal Again, as soon as he was old enough to accompany him. “He was excited to see the colours and hear the music,” Kapoor says.

Sonam, Kareena starrer 'Veerey Di Weddings' Instagram account gets hacked

It was a chase right out of a Bollywood film. A property, vital to the makers of Veerey Di Wedding, was ‘abducted’, with the demand of a ransom. Only, that the property in concern was the official Instagram account of the Kareena Kapoor and Sonam-starrer, and the ransom, a role in the film. On Friday, the cast and crew of the Ekta Kapoor production were in the midst of filming when they noticed something amiss with the film’s account on the photo-sharing platform.

The makers grew suspicious after they noticed that the profile image had been changed to a sketch of a monkey. Apart from featuring an emoji of the Pakistan flag, the updated description was amended to read: “I am paki papu bhai (sic).”

Speaking to mid-day on the condition of anonymity, a member of the film’s digital promotion team says, “We had noticed the development and others had also informed us about it. We immediately reported the hacking to the Instagram headquarters in Mumbai and retrieved [control of the account]. It was hacked for about 90 minutes, allegedly by a resident claiming to be Pakistani. He went live and spoke mainly in Arabic, announcing that he’d return the account if the producers gave him a role in the film.” The social-networking company sprung into action and retrieved the account, also tracing the hacker’s origin to the neighbouring country.

While social media handles of celebrities have been hacked in the past, the incident marks the first time a Bollywood film’s account has been compromised. Co-producer Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor remained unavailable for comment.

Hackers love Bollywood

>> In September 2016, Hrithik Roshan’s Facebook page had been hacked. An ‘enterprising individual’ went live on his feed for a few minutes.

Ekta Kapoor’s new web series based on Subhash Chandra Bose, ‘Bose: Dead Or Alive’ has been released. Interestingly Rajkummar Rao has essayed Subhash Chandra Bose in the series. There was buzz regarding Ekta Kapoor’s show for a while. Not only did Rajkummar Rao gain 12 kg for the role, he also used minimal prosthetic make-up. He even shaved off half his head as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Hansal Mehta is the executive producer of this show. Hansal revealed during the trailer launch of ‘Bose: Dead Or Alive’ that he asked Ekta Kapoor whether he could be a part of the show upon learning of Rajkummar Rao’s involvement with it and that it was based on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Hansal Mehta also revealed that his films weren’t successful for a while and in 2011 when he saw Ekta Kapoor’s film ‘Raginni MMS’ in which he saw Rajkummar Rao perform for the first time, he then made up his mind that he would be the titular ‘Shahid’ of his film based on the lawyer. After collaborating with Rajkummar, Hansal said his career got a new lease of life. Hansal Mehta worked with Rajkummar Rao in ‘City Lights’, ‘Shahid’ and ‘Aligarh.’ He compared his collaboration with Rajkummar Rao as a spiritual journey. ‘Bose: Dead Or Alive’ is being directed by Pulkit.

While talking about Rajkummar Rao’s role in the series, Ekta Kapoor added that he has put in the same effort he does with all his film roles. Ekta had always wanted to create something based on this subject matter. She said to have never felt that this could be made into a film because of the belief that the digital platform has the potential of showcasing something unique and amazing.

Rajkummar Rao revealed he read Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s autobiography and visited Netaji Bhavan in Kolkata in preparation for his role. Ekta Kapoor’s team has researched the topic for 18 months. While prepping for the role Rajkummar Rao has revealed he felt a sense of pride for the nation and thought how it would have been if he was born during Netaji’s time. Rajkummar has also said the series would uncover some unknown and never-before-seen aspects of Subhash Chandra Bose’s life.

Rajkummar Rao’s role in his newly released film ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ has been well received so far. Hansal Mehta’s ‘Simran’ is expected to release soon.

Ekta Kapoor accused of insulting senior citizen

In a fast moving city like Mumbai, gone are the days when people used to hurl abuses/ accusing each other face to face, as they have now found a trendy platform for doing this: twitter. And since the last 24 hours the news that’s’ trending’ is that of Ekta Kapoor and her alleged altercation with a 68-year-old man.

It so happened that Ekta Kapoor found herself in the middle of a controversy, post an alleged altercation at a bank in Mumbai, with a 68-year-old man. That’s when the man’s daughter (unnamed though, using the handle @ghaatidancer) accused Ekta of not just abusing her father, but also showing him the finger, apparently when he asked her to move out of his way. The girl tweeted, “A woman at the bank just called my father an ‘old fool’ and told him to ‘fuck off’, because he was in her way. This was Ekta Kapoor. She was blocking his way and he said, “excuse me”. She turned around and said he was an old idiot who couldn’t see, flipped him off and left. Ekta’s bodyguards tried to defuse the situation by leading her father away.” She also added that “Her bodyguards tried to escort my father away, saying ‘bahut gussewaali hai.'” She tweeted that her father was “completely shaken and on the verge of tears.”

The man’s daughter, tweeted, “at first an apology is all that my father is looking for. I don’t want newspaper coverage, or any publicity. My tweets may be public, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I just want her to apologize”. She also added that she was now contemplating legal action and that they would be trying to procure CCTV footage of the incident from the bank.

On behalf of Ekta Kapoor, a statement was issued which stated, “This is to confirm that all sorts of allegations made against our client Ms. Ekta Kapoor are utterly ridiculous. To bring clarity to the matter, Ekta Kapoor was on her phone on a street in 7 Bungalows when an elderly gentleman came and pushed her. Having questioned him on why he did such a thing, the gentleman immediately retorted in a rude and abusive manner. Post this his daughter has gone on an overdrive with her tweets regarding this episode, all of which hold no truth. Such behavior is uncalled for, Ekta has maintained her silence given that he is a senior citizen, but such uncouth behavior and desperate plea for publicity are unappreciated.”
