An innocuous playful image with daughter Ira, 21, had Aamir Khan face the wrath of trolls. The actor shared the image on Facebook, which appears to have been taken during their recent trip to Coonoor.

Looks like Ira was pinning down daddy dearest after a game. What Aamir Khan felt was just some downtime with his daughter was found inappropriate. Netizens trolled him for posting such a picture with an adult daughter. From name-calling to shaming, netizens took on Aamir who preferred to turn a deaf ear to wagging tongues.

Aamir Khan was in Coonoor to celebrate cousin Mansoor Khan’s 60th birthday. Wife Kiran Rao, son Azad and mother Zeenat also made their way to the hill station in Tamil Nadu. Over a decade ago, Mansoor quit Bollywood and relocated to Coonoor where he runs an organic cheese farm. The family were chilling at his place.

Aamir Khan, who has clocked 30 years in the film industry, finds Ranbir Kapoor a good actor and he is confident he must have done well in Sanju

Aamir Khan says he was offered to play the role of late Sunil Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, the upcoming biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt, but he refused it only because he wanted to essay the title character. Aamir interacted with the media on Wednesday. Asked if he was offered to play the role of Sunil Dutt, he said, “He (Hirani) approached me with the script and I loved it. He wanted me to play Dutt saab’s role. It is a fantastic role and the story is largely on the father-son relationship. But Sanju’s role is unbelievable.”

“So as an actor, I told Raju that Sanjay Dutt‘s role is so wonderful that it won my heart. So in this film I can’t do any other role but Sanjay Dutt’s, which of course I cannot do because Ranbir (Kapoor) is playing it. So, do not offer me anything.” Aamir Khan, who has clocked 30 years in the film industry, finds Ranbir Kapoor a good actor and he is confident he must have done well in the film.

“I cannot wait to watch the film now,” said Aamir, who has worked closely with Hirani in films like 3 Idiots and PK. In real life, Aamir shared a strong bond with Sunil Dutt. Reminiscing some fond memories of the late actor, he said, “He always sent me telegrams in those days to wish me on Diwali, Eid, birthday… If my film did well, he sent me a congratulations note.”

What was his favourite memory of Sunil Dutt? Aamir said, “During the riots of 1993, the Hindi film industry took a delegation to the then Chief Minister to stop the riots. Around 40 people went to the CM’s office. After that, we decided that since no immediate action had been taken, we will sit under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Mantralaya. All 40 of us came and sat under the statue and we decided until the violence stops, we won’t move from there.”

“For the night, we decided to continue it rotationally. So on the first time, Dutt Saab, Yash Chopra, Johnny Walker, I and one of the film producers, we all sat down together at night under the Gandhi statue. We spent the whole night there… Of course, the next day people came and by the evening the CM took some action. But for me, it was a memorable night where I was listening to the stories of their journey from Dutt saab and Johnny Walker. I remember that night very clearly. He was a very strong, dignified and gentle person.”

Aamir confirmed he was producing the slain Indian music mogul Gulshan Kumar’s biopic with Bhushan Kumar.

While he knows the power of a compelling script all too well, Aamir Khan is aware that it is the smaller details that go a long way in perfecting a film. Keeping in mind the spectacle that his next, Thugs Of Hindostan, promises to be, the superstar — along with the film’s director Vijay Krishna Acharya — has decided that the movie should also be released in IMAX format. The Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh starrer, that is currently in its last leg of shooting, will be remastered using the IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

A source close to the development reveals, “Ever since the story was conceptualised by Vijay Krishna Acharya, he was toying with the idea of releasing it in 3D and IMAX formats. Since he was able to benefit greatly from it during Dhoom3 [2013], he knew that his vision for this film can only be enhanced by this technology.” With this development, Thugs Of Hindostan becomes the second Bollywood film to have a global IMAX 3D release, after Padmaavat earlier this year.

Khan, on his part, tells mid-day that his fascination with this technology dates back to early 2000. He says, “When I was in Sydney for a film shoot, I came across an IMAX theatre in the vicinity. That’s where I watched my first movie in this format. It was such an immersive experience that I kept going back to the theatre to watch every available film at that time.” The superstar says that the format will do justice to the larger-than-life film that is Thugs Of Hindostan. “It’s an actioner, with a lot of adventure elements packed in, making it ideal for such an experience.”

Going back in time
Aamir Khan will take a walk down memory lane today as he attends the special screening of his blockbuster, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, in the city. The romance saga about star-crossed lovers that released in 1988, turned Khan and his co-star Juhi Chawla into overnight stars.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film, a special viewing has been arranged at a South Mumbai theatre. Besides Khan and sister Nuzhat, director Mansoor Khan, singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik will also be present at the event.

His box-office record is proof that Aamir Khan is a whiz when it comes to films. So, it’s not surprising that Khan’s speech and acting coach Prakash Bharadwaj is keen that the superstar be the first one to watch his directorial debut, Colours Of Life. Bharadwaj, who trained the cast of Thugs Of Hindostan — including Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh — has organised a special screening of his English film for the team.

Confirming the same, he told mid-day, “We have booked the preview theatre in Yash Raj Films for the screening of my film, on May 14. So far, the entire cast and crew have promised their presence. Since Aamir sir has been on choc-a-block schedule he hasn’t had the time to watch the film yet. I can’t wait for Aamir to see it.”

Prakash adds that the drama, featuring Rituparna Sengupta and Priyanshu Chatterjee in lead roles, is a result of his learnings from Khan over the years. “He is a masterclass by himself. I have made this movie from everything that I have learnt from him on the job.”

Slated to release on July 6, the film explores two themes — the impact of technology in our personal lives, and women empowerment.

Given the fashionista tag that has been attached to Sonam Kapoor, all eyes were on what the bride would wear on her big day. The actor looked resplendent in a red Anuradha Vakil creation as she married beau Anand Ahuja yesterday.

Speaking to mid-day after the Anand Karaj ceremony last morning, makeup artist Namrata Soni gushed, “Isn’t she the most beautiful bride ever? We went with little eyeliner, keeping the focus on eyes and soft red-tinted lips. The antique headpiece was her idea. We combined it with a basic bun, decorated with mogras.”

Sonam Kapoor was certain she would wear red on her wedding day. A source from Vakil’s team revealed, “Sonam was in discussion with Anuradha for many months. The golden lotus motifs were also a collaborative decision. We ran a few designs by her and she picked this one.”

Guests — including Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan with husband Saif Ali Khan and son Taimur, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez — started thronging the Bandra venue by 11.30 am as the couple proceeded with the nuptials.

A guest at the ceremony said, “The traditional Sikh wedding comprised four laava pheras around the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs. The wedding vows were followed by lunch. The highlight of the lunch was when Ranveer and Arjun sang Masakalli [Delhi 6] on stage. Anand and Sonam couldn’t stop laughing at their antics.” Within minutes of her wedding, she changed her user name on social media accounts to Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja.

A few hours later, it was time for the grand reception. The bride dazzled in a grey Anamika Khanna lehenga while Anand Ahuja, unsurprisingly, teamed his sherwani with a pair of sneakers. Karan Johar, who had an act lined up, came with mother Hiroo Johar. Kangana Ranaut, Rani Mukerji, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff were present as well.

While on his impromptu visit to Mumbai on his birthday, Azad had gifted Aamir a handmade card, a testimony to which is seen in the post where Azad is seen presenting the card and Aamir is seen holding his dog.

Aamir Khan starrer Raakh all set to be back in theatres after 29 years

However, latest buzz is that one of his oldest and most underrated films, ‘Raakh’ is now set to be brought back to the theatres 29 years after its release. The film is slated to be screened in a suburban theatre on Saturday. Filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar was the one who brought about this idea. “‘Raakh’ is actually one of the films that made me want to be a filmmaker. It is a movie which was way ahead of its time and had such a distinctive directorial voice. A film like this is of great interest to cinema enthusiasts,” Bejoy said.

He further revealed that he will be moderating a session with the film’s director Aditya Bhattacharya, as part of the premiere. “The reason why I chose to be part of a question and answer session with Aditya is because I am such a fan and I have never had the opportunity of discussing it [the film] with him. I have so many questions on my mind.” When asked if they have reached out to Aamir and invited him to be a part of the screening, Bejoy said, “We haven’t formally invited him yet. He is busy with a shoot in Rajasthan. But it will be great if he can make time for this.”
