Topping list of fastest growing stars in Bollywood, Alia Bhatt credits her offbeat movie choices for audiences’ love; Taapsee Pannu comes second

From selecting movies that steer clear of the run-of-the-mill to making their voice heard on social media, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma and Taapsee Pannu are writing their own rules in an industry that is believed to be a tough place, more so for women. Not surprising then that the trio emerged the ‘fastest growing female stars’ in an annual research conducted by Ormax, a company acknowledged as pioneers of film research in India. The study saw a star’s ascent being determined on the basis of three parameters – their films released last year, their upcoming slate of projects and their growth on social media.

Thrilled about topping the list, Bhatt says that her passion for films is what prompts her to explore complex characters on screen. “My characters are what I will leave behind in life. My goal is to make memorable movies and create unforgettable characters,” she says.

Point out how her popularity on the Internet too plays a role in her bagging the top spot and she says that when it comes to her social media accounts, she is “just a regular girl having fun”. “I am more active on Instagram and it is filled with pictures of my cat. I give them [her followers] a glimpse of my life. But I also try to make sure that if I am saying things, it should serve some purpose. I want to have a distinct voice of my own.”

Pannu ranks second on the list courtesy a commercial success in Judwaa 2 last year. Her ‘call a spade a spade’ attitude too resonates with her fans. Stating that such acceptance from the audience gives a boost to an outsider like her, she says, “[It’s encouraging] for someone like me who did not know anyone in the film industry, had no multi-film deals with studios or any godfather to fall back on. Wherever I am today is because of my audience and that’s what pushes me to do better.”

Even before rumours of her liking for ‘Brahmastra’ co-star Ranbir Kapoor manage to gather steam, it appears that Alia Bhatt has found love elsewhere.

Actress Kim Cattrall vented her anger at former “Sex and the City” co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, saying she was not her friend.

The two had reportedly been at odds since filming the show together, with the demise of any prospects for a third “Sex and the City” film bringing the animosity back to the surface, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

Cattrall took to Instangram to vent her anger on Saturday.

“I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time Sarah Jessica Parker,” she posted.

In the caption, she called Parker a “hypocrite” and “cruel”.

She said: “Let me make this very clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

According to hollywoodreporter.com, Cattrall was likely referring to the recent death of her brother Chris, which Parker discussed at the Paley Centre for media’s “An Evening With the Cast of Divorce” in New York on Thursday.

Parker had also left a message of condolence on Cattrall’s Instagram post announcing her brother’s passing, as had Cynthia Nixon, one of Cattrall and Parker’s other “Sex and the City” co-stars

On Instagram, Cattrall also linked to a New York Post article from October entitled “Inside the mean-girls culture that destroyed ‘Sex and the City'”.

In the article, a clique that excluded Cattrall is described as having been formed on the set of “Sex and the City” particularly after creator and producer Darren Star left and Parker’s friend Michael Patrick King took over, which led to Cattrall’s reluctance to participate in the first “Sex and the City” film.

'Pad Man' not released yet in Pakistan

Indian actor Akshay Kumar’s “Pad Man”, a film highlighting awareness on menstrual hygiene, has not yet been released in Pakistan. But a senior official says it has not been denied a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for import into Pakistan.

“Pad Man” tells a story of a Arunachalam Muruganantham’s journey to make affordable sanitary napkins. A section of the media have said that it has been banned in Pakistan due to its sensitive subject.

But Pakistan Censor Board chief Mobashir Hasan says the decision on NOC was yet to be taken as the film had not yet been “pre-viewed by the Central Board of Film Censors”.

A statement, posted on Hasan’s Twitter account and shared with IANS via a messaging app, read: “The decision to issue an NOC by the Ministry of Information Broadcasting National History and Literary Heritage is yet to be taken on the release of a foreign feature film ‘Pad Man’ as the film has not yet been pre-viewed by the … Censors.”

A Pakistani media report said Pakistani film importers have come under attack over the Akshay Kumar-starrer on grounds of ruining Islamic traditions, history and culture.

Hasan then said: “The decision to grant NOC to the subject film will be based on the merit and criteria of the … Censors, not vexatious, false and irresponsible political motives being created on various media platforms on the back of the film.

“It is advisable to maintain principles of integrity whilst making statements on any issues… Good values are the foundation upon which we will build a prosperous Pakistan, not upon a decision of releasing a solitary film,” he added.

Directed by R. Balki, “Pad Man” is based on a short story from Twinkle Khanna’s book “The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad”. It released in India, Russia, Ivory Coast and Iraq on Friday.

The first Mumbai schedule for the upcoming film “Badhaai Ho” has been wrapped up.

Sharing the news on Twitter, the film’s director Amit Sharma on Sunday said that the next schedule will be shot in the capital.

“‘Badhaai Ho’ first schedule wrapped. On the way to Delhi now. Shooting starts from February 16. Ayushmann, Sanya Malhotra,” Sharma tweeted.

The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and and Sanya Malhotra.

This will be the second time Ayushmann has collaborated with Junglee Pictures after the 2017 film “Bareilly Ki Barfi”.

So I gelled by hair back, I’ve worn my coolest dark glasses and I’ve even wearing a bow-tie if you notice, a full tuxedo. And today I want to give you the most over whelming, loving message that I’ve given you in the last decade. Listen to it carefully because this is very very heartfelt.”

Shah Rukh Khan took to the pool wherein he goes underwater and his iconic dialogues play in the background as a special treat to his audience.

The actor further said, ” You heard every word of what I said, it was right from my heart and so overwhelming that I’m running out of breath. Lots of love to you all.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will be next seen in Anand L Rai’s ‘Zero’ featuring the actor as a vertically challenged man for the first time.

Bikaner to host 'Greydient- A Festival Beyond Music'

The city of Bikaner, which is famous for its Junagarh fort, Karni Mata temple and camel festival, is set to host the ‘Greydient- A Festival Beyond Music’ which will not just have music but also have a play and stand-up comedy session

To be held from February 23 to 25, the fest is offering mud hut accommodations for those interested in soaking up the essence of the city, read a statement.

An amalgamation of music, masti, dance, folklore and adventure, the extravaganza will have adventure sports such as off roading, camel race, petting the foals.

Separate activities for children will also be organised including a puppet show, magic shows and face painting.

Some of the artistes performing at the fest include reality show stars Deepak Malik and Rahul Rana, Rappers Amaan and Shaun and stand-up artiste Saurabh Kapoor.

If that toned back isn’t a giveaway, the famed tattoo on the nape assures Deepika Padukone’s presence. The ‘Padmaavat’ actress dropped in at an awards ceremony organised by the Italian Consulate at a Juhu five-star on Friday.

Deepika looked gorgeous in a red and white striped saree which she teamed up with a long-sleeved black blose. She had tied up her hair neatly in a bun. Deepika was earlier spotted at events where pictures showed her sans the famous tattoo. Whether clever photoshopping or make-up we will never know the mystery behind that we guess.

After the box-office success of her latest release ‘Padmaavat’, which also starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor as Alauddin Khilji and Maharawal Ratana Singh respectively, Deepika Padukone is slated to essay gangster Sapna Didi in an upcoming biopic.

‘Padmaavat’ has turned out to be her highest grosser by crossing India collections of Rs 230 crore. She played the title role of Rani Padmini in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. Yesteryear actress Rekha praised her performance in the historical drama in a special handwritten note.

Deepika Padukone also bagged the third spot on the Top Actors List of January 2018 as shared by a renowned Hollywood website. Deepika is the only actress to be in the top 3 position on the list, with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart ranking first and second respectively. Interestingly, her ‘Bajirao Mastani’ co-star Priyanka Chopra ranks eighth on the list.
