Nawazuddin SiddiquiNawazuddin Siddiqui

He can morph into any character he chooses to play on screen, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he consciously takes up roles that keep him from getting stereotyped. “I have played over 2,000 characters in theatre through seven years. I have a lot of ‘masala’ to show. I have confidence, which allows me to try different roles. The ones who get scared are those who have nothing left to show. I have a lot of characters stored in my bank,” the actor says.

Siddiqui is inspired by roles that showcase the different aspects of human nature. “I like doing grey roles since they have more depth and complexity. I can’t do these larger-than-life hero or villain-like characters, because they don’t interest me. I hate these two extremes, they don’t have any shades. I observe characters from real life and know that people have both good and bad characteristics in them. When you put both of them together, what you get is a complete human being.”

The actor will next be seen in Sridevi-starrer ‘Mom’, followed by ‘Munna Michael’ and ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’.

 Bhumi Pednekar and Akshay Kumar

‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ Starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar is in the news for ‘Plagiarism’. A documentary film maker, Praveen Vyas, has alleged that the idea behind the film has been lifted from his 2016 documentary, ‘Manini’ . But , the writers of the film, Siddharth and Garima, say that they had registered the script with the Film Writers Association in August 2014. Garima says, “The script was commissioned to us by Neeraj Pandey (film-maker) in 2013 itself, so we have been working on it since December that year,” says Garima.

According to the writers, the same real-life story had been reported around that time, so they decided to ‘fictionalise the rest of the story’ and come up with their own version. Siddharth says, “Neeraj sir liked that and asked us to go ahead with it. After that, we left for research to places like Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Nandgaon, Barsana, Jhansi and Bahraich, which is near Lucknow.” In fact, the two writers had asked the film’s makers to set the film around the Mathura area. “We were very happy when they chose to base the film in Mathura, as that’s the milieu that we were also looking for,” says Garima, adding that the allegation of plagiarism has ‘come out of the blue’.

“It’s not possible to pick up a story from any documentary and take a film to the floors within a few weeks’ time. Is it plausible, especially with a film that stars mainstream actors? If our work is subjected to criticism, we are fine with it. But it’s ridiculous, frustrating and insulting for us to hear that we have copied someone’s work,” says Garima. Now, Siddharth and Garima plan to hit back. “Right now, we are verifying the facts and other details. Once we are done, we are, in all likelihood, going to file a defamation case. It’s amazing how people come up with such allegations at the last minute for their 15 minutes of fame,” says Garima.

‘Toilet:Ek Prem Katha’starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar will release on August 11.

Nawazuddin SiddiquiNawazuddin Siddiqui

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a huge fan of his ‘Mom’ co-star Sridevi, says if given a chance to feature in a remake of any of her past films, it would have to be ‘Mr. India’. In an interview to IANS here, Nawazuddin was asked which character would he like to play in a remake of any of Sridevi’s movies.

He said: “There are many movies of Sridevi which I love, like ‘Lamhe’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Mr. India’, ‘English Vinglish’… But I would love to play the role of Mr. India in the remake of the film,” Nawazuddin said. ‘Mr. India’, directed by Shekhar Kapur, told the tale of a poor but big-hearted man who takes orphans into his home. After discovering his scientist father’s invisibility device, he rises to the occasion and fights to save his children and all of India from the clutches of a villain.

Anil Kapoor famously played Arun Verma aka ‘Mr. India’ in the movie, and Nawazuddin Siddiquiwants to step into his shoes. The film was produced by Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor. There has been much talk around a ‘Mr. India’ sequel over the past few years.

Mom’ a mystery-thriller directed by Ravi Udyavar stars Sridevi in the lead role along with Akshaye Khanna. The film will hit the screens on July 7

Vaani Kapoor with TV actress Sara Arfeen Khan at her Versova residence

We haven’t seen much of Vaani Kapoor after the utterly forgettable Befikre (2016). So it was quite a pleasant surprise to spot the leggy lass at a recent bash thrown by popular TV actress Sara Arfeen Khan at her Versova residence.

Turns out, Vaani and the ‘Siya Ke Ram’ actress have known each other for sometime now and the post-Eid bash turned out to be the perfect opportunity for the two girls to catch up. Vaani looked pretty in a traditional pink ensemble. As for those rumours about her lip job and chin surgery, well, see the picture and judge for yourself.
