Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’s first song ‘Ghoomar’ will be out tomorrow. The film starring Deepika Padukone as the legendary, Rajput queen ‘Padmavati’ is the most awaited film of this year. Knowing how Sanjay Leela Bhansali pays attention to even minute details, ‘Ghoomar’ can be expected to showcase the grandeur and exquisite culture of the ‘Rajputs’. For those who don’t know, ‘Ghoomar’ is the traditional folk dance and a part of the heritage of Rajasthan. Just like ‘Bajirao Mastani’ showed Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone in a ‘laavni’ face-off ‘Pinga’, ‘Padmavati’ will have ‘Ghoomar’ as their traditional dance sequence.

The first look of Deepika Padukone as ‘Queen Padmavati’ won a lot of hearts and people couldn’t stop showering their praises on her. Bhansali ensured that he paid attention to every detail before decking up Dippy. Her jewellery, makeup and clothes personified ‘Padmavati’. Deepika looked ethereal in ethnic wear. The film stars Shahid Kapoor Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Allaudin Khilji. It is Deepika Padukone who delivers a goosebump-raising dialogue, one of the most powerful words spoken in the film.

The actress is seen holding a graceful stance with the voiceover of the dialogues mouthed by Deepika sign off the visually alluring Padmavati trailer. The words, ‘Rajputi kangan main utni hi taqat hai, jitni Rajputi talvar main’, are the crux of the film that is backed by the heritage culture of Chittor – Mewar. The dialogue is spoken by Deepika Padukone exhibiting a powerful yet graceful stance. With the exemplary delivery of the hard-hitting dialogue, Deepika Padukone ends the ‘Padmavati’ trailer on a high note, building incredible anticipation for the film’s release. The official handle of the film tweeted out the announcement of the song launch which is scheduled for tomorrow.

In an interview previously, Deepika spoke about her role saying it did take a toll on her and exhausted her.

She said: “Working in Padmavati was an exhausting experience. It takes quite a lot to work on a character for nine months constantly round the clock. Certain characters just don’t leave your system.” Deepika Padukone took to her Twitter to express her gratitude for the tremendous love and support she got for the ‘Padmavati’ trailer. The actress who rightly portrays the most beautiful woman in the world took the opportunity to express her joy and heartfelt gratitude she felt towards everyone for the love and appreciation she was showered with in her tweets.

The actress expressed her gratitude saying, “And as this day comes to an end, I cannot even begin to express the gratitude and joy I feel today!”. She further added, “I sometimes wonder,’ what have I done to deserve so much love and appreciation’ and while I seek, all I can say is a big big Thank You! (sic)”

On Monday, at MAMI there were only women panelists belonging to varied fields. It was a treat to watch such talented women talking about women empowerment and speaking their hearts out about the drastic gender inequality in the field of Indian cinema. ‘Lights, Camera, and Equality’ is the motto of Oxfam- an international confederation of the charitable organization. Bollywood members like Shabana Azmi, Kiran Rao, Nandita Das, Manisha Koirala and Kriti Sanon amongst others were present at this occasion. Ecstatic about the collaboration, Kiran Rao says it’s a great ‘synergy’. Further talking about Oxfam, Rao adds, “Oxfam’s initiative is to get together women and talk about gender issues and how much change you are going to make to the world.”

Veteran Shabana Azmi affirmed that the change has started, though it’s just a ‘drop in the ocean’, it has begun. So, as an extension to this topic, mid-day exclusively got in touch with the actresses present at the Oxfam Best Film on Gender Equality.

When quizzed Kiran Rao, who does she considers the powerhouse of an actress from Bollywood, with the immense crowd-pulling potential to cinema halls, she said it would be difficult to take names, but spoke about the actresses who made a mark with their roles.

“People like Vidya Balan, Rani Mukherjee, Kangana Ranaut, Alia Bhatt are the ones, who’ve chosen roles that are outside of the expected game. When a very very glamorous actress decides that she wants to be a farmer, a house-help in the film. Maybe they’ve chosen a role, which is not like the stereotype, we see in Hindi films. I think they are definitely pushing the envelope.”

Rao spoke at length about Kangana Ranaut. “With every film she does, she tries to do something. She chooses films where women play a crucial part, and it’s not that they are extremely heroic. They maybe anti-heroes. You see a woman thinking big and making decisions for their layered personality, their character. I think those are the women who are pushing the envelope.”

Neha Dhupia, too, mentioned Kangana amongst other actresses, for being influential women. She determinately said, “I think there’s Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone. I take Deepika’s name again and again because I was floored by what she did in Piku. That’s one of her best performances as far as I’m concerned. Yes, there’s this opportunity of magnum opus like Padmavati waiting to watch out, but she played it even beautifully in a small film, so I think these three women can for sure.”

The 90s diva Manisha Koirala, too, considers Kangana Ranaut as a powerful actress apart from Deepika Padukone. “There are some really strong actresses coming forward and portraying themselves in a different way. I love Deepika Padukone very much because she’s upper-talented and spoke about depression. She was able to come out of that glamour and class and finally put across her issue and she could have had a real problem…”

“And of course, Kangana has always been there. More and more women could come forward and stop playing blame-game and (was she hinting at Hrithik Roshan and Kangana row?) probably finding a creative solution to the situation because I believe there is more way of coming out with peaceful solutions to every problem,” added Manisha.

However, present at the Oxfam event was a young actress from the current crop, Kriti Sanon, who went the neutral said, ” I think we are in a time where content is something that pulls the audience to the cinema halls. I think that’s a good change, where the film is not actor-dependent, it is but not so much, and that kind of balances out the equality thing that we have.”

ranveerInternet could finally exhale at 13:03 hours yesterday as the trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited project Padmavati came to us. While the Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh starrer exudes grandeur from the very first scene of the trailer, it rightly seems like a celebration of Rajput valor and heroism with shades of the delicate love story between Maharawal Ratan Singh and Queen Padmini. A vicious Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji assures the grin on the royal faces while he maintains his wicked smile.

While the hoopla surrounding the movie and it’s historic relevance created quite a buzz, a Rajput body, Shri Rajput Karni Sena, seems to be vying to protect the projection of their Queen. Thanks to Karni Sena’s ‘interest’, the movie was attacked when it was being made.It all began with Bhansali being assaulted on the sets of his period-drama in Jaipur, Rajasthan and the tentacles soon spread to Maharashtra when sets were vandalized in Kolhapur. The crew was manhandled, Bhansali had to add an extra layer of scrutiny and return to Mumbai to complete the shoot, not to forget the extensive damage on the financial and creative scale.

The filmmaker was made to toe the line and succumb to the group’s aggression. Not only did he assure there was no distortion of facts or any kind of chemistry shown between Padmini and Khilji’s character, Karni Sena demanded to be in on the the script and be shown the movie first to then in order the final draft was ‘historically correct’ and protects the interest of their community. Despite handing out confirmations, Karni Sena doesn’t seem to be in any mood to listen. Ever since the posters were released they have issues threats to halt the release of the film.

Soon after the trailer was out and Sena was at it. This time they have gone for the cinema theatres and multiplexes. In what seems like a warning to PVR Cinemas, they have asked them to not release Padmavati and if done so, they’d be responsible for any kind of losses thereafter.

Rajput Karni Sena opines Rani Padmini has been wrongly presented in the film and that the misrepresentation hurts the sentiments of the Kshatriya community. While Bollywood is jumping with joy and has already deemed the film as a blockbusters, looks like Padmavati won’t descend to the screens so easily! Picture abhi baaki hai…

padmavatiSanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati created a huge hurricane on social media yesterday when the trailer of the magnum opus was launched. The film which stars Deepika Padukone essaying the titular role of Rani Padmavati aka Padmini is making the audience go gaga over the trailer so much that in not even 24 hours of the trailer release, it has managed to garner more than 10 million views. Apart from Deepika Padukone’s valour and beauty, Shahid Kapoor who essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh who plays Alauddin Khilji have also grabbed a lot of eyeballs.

Many of us may have seen the trailer on repeat mode but we are sure that you might have missed these minute details which will enhance your experience the next time you watch it. Check it out.

1. Padmavati’s welcome to the fort of Chittor
The opening sequence of the trailer showcases the grand entry of Rani Padmini in the Chittor fort. This scene will feature in the film after Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) marries Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) and gets her to Chittor now known as Chittorgarh.

2. Alauddin’s meeting with Padmavati
We all know by now that Alauddin Khilji never met Rani Padmavati and he just saw her reflection in the mirror. As per history, this scene looks like Ranveer Singh is on his way to meet the Queen of Mewar. The lotus in his hand is just an apt use of symbolism. The same scene also features our very own Jim Sarbh. The guy throwing the petals, yes he is Jim!

3. Letter of capture
As per history Alauddin Khilji takes Maharawal Ratan Singh as his capture and sends a letter to Padmavati informing her about the same. Looking at this scene in the trailer we can be assured that Rani Padmini wasn’t quite happy with the news.

4. How Padmavati’s beauty reached Alauddin
As per history, Maharawal Ratan Singh’s court had a subject Raghav Chetan who was abolished from Singh’s courtroom after he was caught performing an illegal sorcery. Feeling insulted, Raghav landed in Alauddin’s courtroom and spoke to him highly about Padmavati’s beauty. Looks very much like this scene.

5. When Maharawal Ratan Singh meets Alauddin Khilji
Just before taking Maharawal Ratan Singh as captive Alauddin Khilji meets him and Sanjay Leela Bhansali included a glimpse of this scene in the trailer.

Now that you know these 5 things we are sure you’ll love watching the trailer again.

Is there anything we’ve missed? Let us know in the comment section below.

deepikaBraveheart diva Deepika Padukone came out in the open and publicly discussed her battle with depression last year on a TV channel. While the actress is at the peak of her career with back-to-back hits in her kitty, DP recently spoke at India Economic Summit and addressed her fear of depression relapse. Terming her past struggle as “such a bad experience”, the Padmavati actress always carries a fear of relapse.

The 31-year-old actor was interacting on the stigma surrounding mental illness at India Economic Summit. “I don’t think I can say that I’m completely over it (depression). There is always a fear at the back of my mind that I might have a relapse because it has been such a bad experience for me,” Padukone said. When quizzed if her mental condition cost her movie roles, Dippy opened up saying,”Maybe there are people who haven’t offered me films because they think I was depressed and I can’t act. Maybe, I don’t know. I’m in a good space because I can choose the movies that I want to act in, but I don’t think everyone has that luxury of where they want to work or when they want to work,” she said.

She started the ‘The Live Love Laugh Foundation’ to help those like her to cope up with depression. As she gears up for the release of her upcoming period-drama, a report by Cosmopolitan suggests Deepika sought medical assistance while the shooting the climax scene of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. Rumor has it that the 31-year-old was extremely disturbed by the self-immolation scene (Jauhar). The suicide scene transported her back to the time when the actor was herself battling depression. Well, it isn’t just Dippy but her rumored beau Ranveer Singh too got seemed to have taken his portrayal of the merciless Khilji way too seriously. So much so that he was advised by his friends to visit a psychiatrist. However, both the stars completed their shoot with an unsettling impact on their minds. If these reports are anything to by, one can only imagine the level of brilliance the Ram Leela stars have put in to step into the shoes of their characters.

Stressing on the importance of inculcation of mental health in school curriculum, Deepika said, “A large part of the stigma comes from the fact that we (just) talk about physical education in schools. I had physical education in my school, but we didn’t have anything to talk about mental health. It’s not a part of the curriculum. If we included that in the curriculum and introduced the idea or the importance of mental health at school level, there will be no stigma.”

Unlike others, Dippy didn’t shy away from owning her issues. Elaborating on her decision to go public with her depression battle, she said, “I didn’t think about the repercussions. The idea really was to change the way people in India and the world see mental illness”.

On the work front, Deepika Padukone will be next seen in SLB’s Padmavati alongside Ranveer and Shahid Kapoor. The trailer of the magnum opus was released some time back and while Deepika, Shahid put on a great show, it is baddie Ranveer to watch out for!

When you combine some of the best actors of the millennial generation like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor with ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, hearts start racing because one doesn’t expect anything less than a miracle. The amount of buzz that ‘Padmavati’ has created months before its release and for that matter, months before even its trailer was released, is not something that happens with every Bollywood film. Controversies and stunning posters showcasing the looks of the characters acted as the cherry on top of the cake.

Putting an end to the misery of fans, the team finally announced that the trailer of Padmavati will be released at 1.03pm today. From Deepika Padukone, to Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh–the film’s lead stars tweeted, “#PadmavatiTrailer arrives today at 13:03. Stay tuned! @FilmPadmavati.”

You must be wondering why 1:03 p.m. to be exact.

The significance of the time of the release of the trailer is believed to be the first fight between Maharawal Ratan Singh and Sultan Alauddin Khilji. The battle was fought in 1303 AD for the very first time. Deepika Padukone is seen playing the role of Rani Padmini of Chittor, while Shahid Kapoor features in the role of her husband Rawal Ratan Singh. And Ranveer Singh is playing the role of the menacing Alauddin Khilji. The expectations were riding really high and without a doubt, they were exceeded. The trailer which unexpectedly focuses a little more on Shahid and Ranveer’s characters is breathtaking, to say the least.

Stunning and picturesque sets, subtle yet noteworthy chemistry between Deepika and Shahid and Ranveer’s intense and dark AF character along with the excellent cinematography- our hearts definitely skipped a beat. Have a look for yourself:

Deepika is her regal self, Shahid surely justifies the look of the royal ‘Rajput’, but it is the narcissism of Ranveer as the ravenous Khilji that takes the cake. The film is all set to hit the silver screen on December 1, 2017 and the fans and movie buffs can’t wait to watch this epic film.

All the three looks, even Ranveer Singh’s look, were exotic. Deepika is always eternally beautiful but I think Bhansali makes her look more beautiful,” PTI quoted the 45-year-old filmmaker as saying.

Padmavati also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles.

Padmavati marks Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s third collaboration with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali after Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.

Last month, Padmavati posters featuring Deepika as Rani Padmini were burnt by an outfit of the Rajput community Shri Rajput Karni Sena outside Rajmandir Cinema Hall in Jaipur in protest, reported news agency IANS.

The outfit claimed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali promised to the have the movie cleared by them first but had not followed up. “While shooting in Jaipur Bhansali had promised to show the film to us and historians before releasing it. But since then no one has contacted us, nor has the film been shown to us,” said Narain Singh Divrala, the district president of Karni Sena, reported IANS.

Padmavati will release in theatres on December 1.

On October 2, an elated Ranveer Singh took to his Twitter handle to announce the much-awaited poster of his character Sultan Alauddin Khilji from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’. He had written, “Sultan Alauddin Khilji arrives tomorrow morning.”

— Ranveer Singh (@RanveerOfficial) October 2, 2017

However, much before its release, the poster got leaked, which forced the ‘Padmavati’ team to unveil Ranveer’s look way before scheduled and Ranveer posted his look on October 3 at 1:45 am. Despite the poster’s leak, his intense and evil look in the poster got him rave reviews.

The leak caused everyone in a fury but the man who was the most agitated is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He is a filmmaker who maintains secrecy around his film’s characters and advises the stars to maintain low-profile while filming, to avoid any uncalled circumstances. As a repercussion of the poster’s leak, Bhansali has issued an ultimatum to the team of ‘Padmavati’, which could cost them their job if not abided by.

A source from ‘Padmavati’s team told india.com, “Bhansali sir is very upset with what happened. He is convinced that while the ones who leaked the look aren’t from the team, they got their hands on the Khilji posters thanks to someone in-house. He has issued a strict warning to the entire team which has everybody shocked, shaken and scared.” Sanjay Leela Bhansali continues and likes working with his same set of people and doesn’t leave them. Be it the PR’s, make-up artists, art directors, stylists, etc. But, the consistent leaks from his films are irking Bhansali and has given a strict warning to all of them. “Padmavati is a dear project and it has already seen many lows and blows since it started rolling.

Information leak from the sets or the looks of the important characters getting out before schedule is the last thing he wants. He has sent out a loud and clear message to his team that if anything pertaining to Padmavati is leaked anymore, he will do away with the entire team and get new people on board to work with him on future projects,” revealed the source to the portal. The dynamic posters of Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh have been adored by the audiences, and the Bhansali extravaganza is slated to release on December 1, 2017.
