Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar unveiled the first look of Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte from their upcoming film ‘Padman’, a socio-drama that focuses on menstruation and women’s health. Inspired by the life of Coimbatore-based Arunachalam Muruganantham, who found a way to make affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village, ‘Padman’ is set to release during the Republic Day weekend on January 26, 2018. The film has been written and directed by R. Balki. While sharing Radhika’s look from ‘Padman’ on Twitter, Akshay Kumar wrote, “The REASON he became #PADMAN…find out on 26th January, 2018…” He also shared a picture of Sonam Kapoor from the film and captioned it, “The STRENGTH behind #PADMAN…find out on 26th January, 2018…”

Akshay Kumar sent shock waves in the industry when he announced that his home production, Padman will hit theatres on Republic Day 2018. It was viewed as hara-kiri by many since Rajinikanth’s magnum opus, 2.0, which also stars Kumar as the negative lead, had already booked January 25 for its release.

In an interview to mid-dayas part of the conversation series, Sit with Hitlist, Akshay Kumar finally opened up on the Padman-2.0 debate. When asked if he considers pitting two of his projects against one another a wise move, he said, “There is a lot of false information that is being circulated over both films releasing on the same day. Why would I clash with my own film? It will be either Padman or 2.0.”

Does this imply that Rajini’s mega-budget film will be pushed to a later date? Rumours had suggested that Shankar’s sci-fi drama wouldn’t be able to meet the January 25 deadline as its special effects were not complete. On being probed if 2.0’s release will be postponed, Kumar diplomatically maintained, “While Padman is a film that I have produced, 2.0 belongs to Shankar, Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions. They will decide whether they want to release the film on Republic Day. If they do, I will postpone Padman and if they don’t, I will go ahead.”

The actor added that his decision to advance Padman‘s release from April 13 to R-Day stemmed from the fact that a holiday release is an advantageous business proposition.

Akshay Kumar is unwell. On Tuesday, the actor was running a temperature, but shot for The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.

Though feeling drained, he did not let it affect the shoot. With co-judges Sajid Khan and Shreyas Talpade and celebrity host Chunky Panday, there was never a dull moment in the house. Akki could only laugh away the blues.

Does this imply that Rajini’s mega-budget film will be pushed to a later date? While rumours had suggested that Shankar’s sci-fi drama wouldn’t be able to meet the January 25 deadline as its special effects were not complete, the production house had promptly issued a statement asserting that Rajini would keep his date with the fans.

The actor added that his decision to advance Padman’s release from April 13 to R-Day stemmed from the fact that a holiday release is an advantageous business proposition. “I am certainly having a release on Republic Day because if I don’t do it, there are many others who are waiting in line. So I might as well take advantage.”

Yesterday, Twinkle Khanna issued an apology on social media for defending husband Akshay Kumar’s sexist comment to former co-judge Mallika Dua on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Last week, the star wife had added to the controversy by saying, “Humour should be seen in the right context.”

She had even poked fun at Mallika and her father, veteran scribe Vinod Dua. Twinkle wrote that the emotional outburst was due to the trolls, who dragged her children into the controversy.

She wrote, “I got pulled into this debate not as a social commentator, but as a wife and unlike my normal, slightly rational self (sic).” All’s well that ends well.

Choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan brought along a ‘lot of cheer and fun’ to the set of ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, which is co-judged by her brother and director Sajid Khan and actor Akshay Kumar.

During the shooting of one of its episodes, Farah made a surprise entry. This was when super judge Akshay was amidst an egg breaking contest between judges Shreyas Talpade and Sajid. Farah joined the three on stage sans make-up.

“I knew Farah shoots next door but never expected her to turn up on our set. It was a pleasant surprise. She was sporting enough to shoot sans make-up and her presence added a lot of cheer and fun to the atmosphere,” Sajid said in a statement. The episode will air on Star Plus on Saturday.

Bollywood ‘khiladi’ Akshay Kumar plays the antagonist in the most-costliest Indian sci-fi thriller ‘2.0’ also starring Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson. After unveiling several posters and the grand music audio launch in Dubai’s Burj Park, the makers have revealed a yet-another exciting poster of Akshay Kumar from the film. Akshay is in a never-seen-before-avatar evil look. For its first, he will be essaying such a negative shade. He plays the character of an unusual scientist named Richard, whereas Rajinikanth continues his character of scientist Vaseegaran from the 2010 flick ‘Enthiran’ (Robot) with Aishwarya Rai.

On October 26, there was a grand audio launch of ‘2.0’ in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Amy Jackson, Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman and Rajinikanth attended the event. Rahman performed live at the event. Dubai’s best-known landmark, the super-tall Burj Khalifa, was lit up with Thalaiva Rajinikanth’s image to make Shankar’s sci-fi thriller’s audio launch a mega event for his fans.

‘2.0’ is scheduled for a release on January 25, but interestingly this has left Khiladi Kumar fans in a dilemma as well. As it was recently revealed that Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’ has been preponed to have a release on Republic Day, January 26, just a day after ‘2.0’ hits the theatres.

Bollywood is having fresh arrivals since the last few days. Soha Ali Khan, Celina Jaitly and Esha Deol have embraced parenthood. Joining this bandwagon is Asin, who becomes the fourth actress to become a parent in the span of 25 days. Asin and husband Rahul Sharma shared an official statement on Tuesday announcing the birth of their daughter.

The first glimpse of the baby was shared by none other than Akshay Kumar, who played cupid between Asin and Rahul. He also played the Best Man at their wedding. Overjoyed with this news, Akshay took to social media and conveyed his best wishes to the couple.

Diwali this year became memorable for the families of 103 slain policemen and Army personnel. While many in B-town were busy enjoying the festive season in their own way, Akshay Kumar came up with a special gesture and brought a sliver of light and joy to the families who lost their beloved ones.

Akki who is often known for his generosity especially towards defence personnel, joined an initiative by a senior IPS officer and contributed Rs 25 lakh for this wonderful cause. The officials came up with a list of martyred soldiers and when Akshay learned about this, he decided to join hands and make a difference.

A post shared by Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) on Jul 20, 2017 at 1:06am PDT

“Akshay recently sent me a photograph of a small girl weeping beside the coffin of her father. When I broached the subject of helping the slain policemen’s families, the actor promptly decided to chip in. We are happy that our initiative has made the Diwali of the martyrs’ families sweeter,” said Kolhapur range IGP Vishwas Nangre Patil to PTI.

He not only sent a cheque but also a signed letter for each family, making the gesture all the more thoughtful and personal.

A post shared by Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) on Jul 1, 2017 at 8:32am PDT

In the heartfelt letter, he talked about the sacrifice made by the martyrs for our nation, “I am aware that you must be recalling their lovely memories during Diwali. The tragedy that has befallen your family is immense and I pray to god that you overcome this tragedy with fortitude and usher in the new year. I wish to offer sweets and a small gift for the children to buy books. I request you to accept them,” he wrote.

However, this isn’t the first time Akshay has done something like this. Even after Uri terror attacks, he went on to donate Rs 5 lakh to every family of the martyrs.

He is a true inspiration. More respect to you Akki. We need more people with golden hearts like yours.

rajini_aamirA video clip of Aamir Khan talking about superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film 2.o has surfaced on Twitter. In this, Aamir Khan reveals in the interview that director Shankar had offered him the film. No, it is not Akshay Kumar’s role, but Rajini’s. Aamir explains how 2.0 is going to be a blockbuster. He said, “I am a big fan of Shankar and I am a big fan of Rajini ji and Shankar offered me that film. Super duper hit film hai wo (It is a super hit film). It is a blockbuster. It is going to break all records.”

Aamir also explained to host Komal Nahta that Rajinikanth himself thought that he was not well and suggested to Shankar that Aamir should do the film. Aamir said, “Rajini sir called me and said please do the film.” So why did he not do the film? The Thugs of Hindostan actor explains, “It is a super script. It is going to do very well. But whenever I used to shut my eyes, I used to see Rajini sir in that role. I couldn’t see myself. Emotionally, I couldn’t do that role. When I used to think of the film, or scene I saw Rajini sir. So then I told Shankar that I will not be able to do the film. Only Rajini sir can do this. He is irreplaceable.”

Aamir also spoke about how the prequel Robot starring Rajinikanth was imprinted in his mind and he loved it. This also happens to be the reason why Aamir cannot imagine anyone in the role.

Rajinikanth’s 2.0, in the meantime, is set to release during the Republic Day weekend in 2018. Before that, a grand music launch is being organised on October 27 at Burj Park in Dubai. The film also stars Amy Jackson in a pivotal role. The music for this film is composed by AR Rahman.
