As Parineeti Chopra reunites with Arjun Kapoor for Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, she opens up on her easy equation with co-star

Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra is as excited about reuniting with her Ishaqzaade (2012) co-star Arjun Kapoor as fans of the duo are. Days after her look as the no-nonsense corporate woman from the upcoming romantic thriller, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, was unveiled, Chopra says she’s looking forward to romancing Kapoor’s “sexy” police officer. “Arjun and I go back a long way. I am very protective of him. We share this great equation where we can be brutally honest, and yet incredibly offensive with each other. This comes from the fact that we are fond of one another,” says Chopra, who also holds discussions on “love and life” with the actor.

As filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee would have it, Chopra divulges little about the film before the trailer’s release. But, she is willing to describe her character as one who is “fiercely ambitious”. “She is focused on her career. Her clarity defines her, which is inspiring. The characters [Kapoor and Chopra’s] belong to different spectrums of life. They are inadvertently brought together. The film chronicles the story of a man and woman who can’t stand each other, but can’t survive without one another either.” Recently, Chopra was busy filming for a venture when she suddenly found herself becoming the butt of jokes on social media.

Filmmaker Karan Johar had tweeted a picture of Akshay Kumar in character from the upcoming historical, Kesari, while welcoming Chopra aboard the project. Twitterati did not miss musing on his snafu, editing images of Chopra on Kumar’s face in a bid to poke fun at the director. But Chopra is far from baffled with the reaction. “Frankly, it was silly. Karan was doing the right thing by sharing an image from the film to announce the female actor. Social media has ceased to surprise me anymore. I consider it my daily dose of entertainment.” But talk of her collaboration with Kumar, who has in the recent past, backed contextually strong ventures, lights up her face. “Akshay is gifted and talented. I have a lot to learn from him,” she said. Meanwhile, the brand ambassador of Tourism Australia is looking forward to her next trip Down Under. “There are places that I have visited where people make their soaps and perfumes. I want to bring such elements to the forefront and promote that culture.”

Akshay Kumar is the ‘khiladi’ of Bollywood for a legit reason. Besides being a great actor, he is a greater human being. Last year, Akshay’s association with the ‘Bharat Ke Veer’ initiative got a lot of appreciation. Giving back to our soldiers and consciously making efforts for our brave men is something that is natural but when bigger names get associated with it, the consequences are more positive. Something similar happened at the event where around 12.93 crore was successfully raised.

No amount of gratitude is enough for our soldiers. We managed to raise Rs. 12.93 crores today! Grateful to all the people who came and showed their support at the #BharatKeVeer Anthem launch. Special thank you to Hon. @rajnathsingh ji for this platform. pic.twitter.com/6O1sPo20Jh

The ‘Bharat Ke Veer’ anthem was also launched and has been sung by the talented Kailash Kher.

The launch was attended by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Ajit Doval who is the National Security Adviser (NSA). Akshay has made another appeal for a similar initiative for the soldiers who get disabled during the dangerous initiatives that they take. Work wise, the man is gearing up for the release of the much awaited ‘Padman’ which is another initiative to create social awareness around menstrual hygiene in the country.

Akshay Kumar has postponed the release date of his much-awaited film Padman to avoid a box office clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film Padmaavat

akshay sonam

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has postponed the release date of his much-awaited film “Padman” to avoid a box office clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial film “Padmaavat”. “Padman” directed by R Balki was supposed to release on January 25, but now it will arrive in theatres on February 9. “Padmaavat” makers announced the release date of the film earlier this month after they received the clearance from the censor board.

The film had to miss its scheduled release of December 1, as it got mired in controversy after various Rajput groups, including Rajput Karni Sena, objected to the content of the film and the portrayal of queen Padmavati. ‘Padman’ release postponed to February 9. ‘Padmaavat’ will be a solo release on January 25, trade analyst Komal Nahata said in a tweet. “Padman” is based on the life of Tamil Nadu based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who created affordable sanitary napkins in rural India. “Padman” will now have a box office clash with Neeraj Pandey’s “Aiyaary”.

A special screening of Pad Man was held at the Oxford Union today. Producer Twinkle Khanna addressed the students of the English university. She’s keen the world know about entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad-making machine, on whom the film is based.

She also delved into issues relating to menstrual hygiene, tackling taboos and breaking down the stigma attached to menstruation as a means to empower girls and women worldwide. Pad Man is also the first Indian film to be showcased at The Oxford Union.

Akshay Kumar in an interview with mid-day talks about being the antagonist on-screen and fanboy off-screen during shoot of 2.0

As is the norm with any big-ticket release, rumours have abounded Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer 2.0. After Kumar’s look from the sci-fi film made its way online last year, fans went into overdrive speculating that he plays a scientist who turns into a crow after an experiment goes wrong. Laughing off the presumption, the actor says, “Whatever you hear about 2.0 is all a lie as no one knows anything about it and we are not allowed to talk about it. In fact, I’m glad such rumours are doing the rounds because people will be in for a surprise when they watch the film.”

All Kumar is willing to divulge is that he plays the antagonist in the Shankar-directed movie. “Many people asked me why I wanted to play a villain and I told them, ‘Why not?’ A hero exists only when there’s a villain. I had never imagined that I would be part of the costliest Indian film.”

He agrees that getting the opportunity to share screen space with arguably India’s biggest superstar may have influenced his decision. It’s endearing to see the National Award winner turn into a fanboy for a brief moment as he claims that Rajinikanth is “the only one in the industry who has got swag.” “Once, we were just sitting on the set, waiting for the next shot and he brushed some dirt off his pants. The entire unit was awestruck by how stylishly he did it. Everything he does is so stylish. I even enjoyed getting punched by him,” he laughs. His 131st film, the April release marks Kumar’s first venture in South cinema.

Akshay Kumar’s bald look has become the talk of the town, after the actor made public appearances forPadman‘s promotion. Since then, there has been a great deal of speculation about Akshay’s current bald look. However, here’s the real reason behind Akki’s bald look.

While promoting on a TV show, the actor revealed that he had shaved his pate for his next, Kesari. As he has to wear a huge turban in the period drama, it often gets uncomfortable. A tonsured head provides some respite from a sweaty head.

Padman’s makers have said the film’s January 25 release date will not change amid speculation that Padmavati may hit theatres the same day

Putting all speculations to rest, the makers of Padman have said the film’s January 25 release date will not change. Speculations were rife that Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Padmavati may hit theatres the same day. B-town is abuzz that Padmavati, which has been making headlines due to its plot line, is set to release on January 25 – the same day as the Akshay Kumar-starrer Padman. The producers of the film, however, said they have no clue about Padmavati release or the possible box-office clash between the two films.

“I am clueless what is happening… with clash. I have no idea about it. Even we have heard about it. All we know is Padman is releasing on January 25. Akshay announced it officially. Padmavati is a very important film. It’s a beautiful film and it should release soon. I am also looking forward to seeing it. It depends on Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions to decide on the date,” Prerna Arora, one of the producers of Padman, told PTI.

Asked if the makers will push the release date of Padman to avoid any potential box-office clash with the big-budget period drama, Prerna said, “We are coming on January 25.” Sources close to the team of Padman said no one from the team of Padmavati has had any talks about the possible clash. Some reports even suggest that Padmavati might come out on February 9.

Anushka Sharma’s next home production venture Pari and director Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, starring Kartik Aaryan, are slated to release on February 9. “I see no sense in clashing with a big film like ‘Padmavati’ and harming the best release my film can get. If ‘Padmavati’ comes on February 9 I will change the release date of my film,” Luv Ranjan told PTI.

“We are coming on February 9, we are waiting for the official announcement on ‘Padmavati’ release date, so till then we cannot comment,” said Prerna. Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions remained unavailable for comment regarding the speculation over the release date of Padmavati. The film, which was earlier scheduled to hit cinema houses on December 1, features Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead.

Recently, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) decided to give the film a U/A certification along with some modifications and suggested change of the film’s title to ‘Padmavat’.

The box-office clash between Brothers Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra has now been averted. Khiladi Kumar’s PadMan, which was slated to release on Republic Day, will now release a day early.

Akshay took to social media to announce the new release date as he wrote, ‘Superhero ke saath Super Republic week. #PadMan releasing on 25th January, 2018! @PadManTheFilm @sonamakapoor @radhika_apte @mrsfunnybones @SonyPicsIndia @kriarj #RBalki’

In the R Balki-directorial, the ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ star is stepping into the shoes of national hero Arunachalam Muruganantham; the inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas. Radhika Apte may be missing from Padman promotional work as she locks dates for international film with Dev Patel

While Akshay Kumar‘s decision to pre-pone the release of Padman to the Republic Day weekend has averted an expected clash with his other outing, 2.0, the reshuffling has caused havoc for Radhika Apte instead. Apte, who stars in the former, a fictionalised biographical account on social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganatham, will have to skip the promotions owing to her chock-a-block schedule.

She tells mid-day, “I was looking forward to being there to support Padman. Given that it revolves around the subjects of menstrual hygiene, there would have been a lot of ideas tossed around during the promotions. However, I have a big project lined-up, the filming for which will roll this month.” While Apte chooses to remain silent about the venture, she reveals that the international outing pairs her alongside Dev Patel. “I am not sure if I will be in the country when promotional work picks up,” says the actor, further heaping praise on her co-star, Kumar. “Akshay and I come from different schools of thought, but he is more experienced. As co-actors, we learnt from one another. That’s how we created work that was new. I enjoy working with new people.”

While Padman was to hit screens in March, Kumar also has Rajinikanth-starrer 2.0 in the pipeline. With production work for the latter underway, Kumar pre-poned the release of his home production to allot time for the sci-fi later.

From Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Manto to Akshay Kumar in Padman — the New Year is likely to give Bollywood some whistle-worthy characters

Akshay Kumar

From Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Manto to Akshay Kumar in Padman — the New Year is likely to give Bollywood some whistle-worthy characters.

Here are some of the must-see ones:

Akshay Kumar as Arunachalam Muruganantham: Playing the enterprising man who invented the economical sanitary napkin, Akshay will bring his natural flair and empathy to a character who is meant to be an antidote to social inertia. Can’t wait to see this on January 26.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Saadat Hasan Manto: The Urdu auteur-writer whose brutal frankness about life during the violence and bloodshed of the Partition shook our conscience, will be Nawazuddin’s chance to play a heroic character after playing scummy characters in a string of dark murky films. His impact as Manto in Nandita Das’s biopic will depend on the impact of the Bal Thackeray biopic. Date of release not decided.

The Amitabh Bachchan-Aamir Khan face-off in “Thugs Of Hindostan”: It’s going to be the biggest action sequence ever filmed for a Hindi film. This is going to be the mother of all face-offs between two tall actors (one of them tall in a metaphorical sense only) who have never been together, never come together, never faced one another. The climactic confrontation is going to be the biggest action scene of 2018. Releasing on November 7.

Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt: Would Ranbir mimic the famous Dutt mannerisms? Or would he give his own interpretation to the character? That’s the question which will be answered when this eagerly awaited Dutt biopic, directed by the real Sanjay Dutt’s friend Rajkumar Hirani, opens on March 30.

Kangana Ranaut as Jhansi Ki Rani: So many actresses have tried to play Rani Lakshmibai and failed. So many times biopics on this warrior queen were announced and aborted. Will Kangana shut all her detractors up with her portrayal of Rani Lakshmibai in “Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi”? We shall know the answer when the film opens on April 27.

Deepika Padukone as Padmavati: We can only wait and watch.
