Priyanka Chopra Apologises For Her Comments On Sikkim But Twitter Has Already Lashed Out At Her

Our very own ‘Desi girl’ has managed to grab headlines not just in India but across the world and it isn’t just about walking the red carpets or her appearances at award shows, anymore. Priyanka Chopra is making sure that she uses her power as a global star for the benefit of the society by urging the global community to come forward and help those who are in dire need.

Adding to her list of achievements, PeeCee recently got behind the production wheel of ‘Pahuna – The Little Visitors’ that even received a standing ovation at Toronto International Film Festival 2017.

‘Pahuna’, which is considered India’s first film in Sikkimese language, talks about the insurgency that forces people in a Nepalese village to flee to Sikkim. It’s the story of three children facing extraordinary circumstances.

Though the movie is being critically acclaimed, an interview about it has landed Priyanka in a major controversy. In an interview with an international entertainment website, Priyanka made some comments about the state of Sikkim which paint a rather false image about the conditions in the state. She said, “This is a Sikkimese film. Sikkim is a small state in the North East of India which never had a film industry or anyone who made films from there. And this is the first film ever that’s come out of that region because it’s very troubled with insurgency and troubling situations. I’m very excited,” Priyanka said.

She further talked about the movie’s theme, “This is a film about two kids and their perspective on the refugee crisis, on being moved from one place to another without understanding why they’re suddenly packing bags and leaving. So it speaks about all of that with kids’ perspective.”

But after Twitter and rest of the world lashed out at her, PC has finally apologized to the Sikkim government, while her mother Madhu Chopra spoke to Ugen Gyatso, the tourism minister of Sikkim to apologise for the comment.

Gyatso sought an apology from the actor for her irresponsible remarks, and here’s a copy of Priyanka’s apology:

“I’m sorry I have to write to you under these circumstances.. but I needed to clarify my stance in regards to the situation which has arisen due to a comment of mine during an interview for my film Pahuna, which was misunderstood.

As you are aware, I hold the Government and the people of Sikkim in high regard and have in addition to Pahuna been looking to tell more great stories from Sikkim.

From the moment I heard the script of Pahuna, I knew I wanted to share this story with the world. It is important to me because no one else was willing to take a chance on a film like this, that deals with the refugee crises which is an issue that is being dealt with across the world as it is being in Sikkim.. Pahuna is a film that brings a message of hope and positivity.

My comment, made during an interview at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2017, where Pahuna made its worldwide debut, was misconstrued. I was talking about the Sikkimese film industry and also the subject of the film, where I mentioned how Sikkim was grappling with the refugee situation caused by insurgencies.. I had meant by the ‘neighbouring countries’ .. I am fully aware that Sikkim is an incredible host nation (sic) to so many refugees and our film shows exactly that through the children’s point of view…

I understand that the statement I made in the interview was open to interpretation. I should have been clearer with my intention. We’ve made a beautiful film that would not have been possible without the support of the government and people of Sikkim. In no way did I intend to offend or hurt anyone’s sentiments and for that I apologise.

I appreciate all the support you have shown me and my team and I wanted to clear the misunderstanding with you directly.”

Since her statements about Sikkim being a troubled state were inaccurate, Twitter users didn’t spare a moment to bash the actress. The fact that she is the brand ambassador of Assam added fuel to the fire.

While her fans came to her rescue and argued that her messing up like this was a one-time occurrence, people of Sikkim are of the view that if the actress is producing a movie which is meant to release worldwide, the least she could do was get her facts right.

We repeat: no cuts whatsoever!

Mr. Nihalani is obviously on cloud nine now as he even expressed his happiness by saying, “This is just what I had hoped for. If I was still the CBFC chairperson, I’d have given Julie 2 an ‘Adults’ certificate with no cuts. It is a clean adult film for adult members of a family. Though it’s a film on an adult subject – the exploitation of strugglers and newcomers in Bollywood—the film has no nudity, no skin show, and no double-meaning dialogues. Like I said it is a family film for adults and the CBFC has done the right thing.”

The internet went ballistic when the trailer was released and didn’t shy away from calling Nihalani a hypocrite for peddling soft-porn, to which he conveniently replied, “Soft porn or soft corn, or harsh reality, let the film release. The world will know.”

Sanjay Dutt Reveals Why 'Munna Bhai Chale America' Is Never Gonna Happen

Sanjay Dutt had to take a break from Bollywood because of reasons that are well known to all of us now. But in case you have been living under a rock since the last few years, Dutt was convicted for illegal possession of weapons in association with serial bombings in Mumbai. The case that began in 1993, finally ended last year when after serving his sentence with good behavior and conduct, he was released from jail on 25 February 2016.

His career which obviously took a backseat is now on its way of revival. Sanjay, who was last seen in a cameo role in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘PK’, is now coming back to the silver screen with a bang. His upcoming movie ‘Bhoomi’ has got everybody excited to see this superstar perform again.

The actor and the rest of the team are going all out with the promotions. During one such promotional event, Sanju Baba was asked about the fate of the third installment of the ever-so-popular Munna Bhai series. A few years back, trailer for ‘Munna Bhai Chale America’ was released and the fans of this franchise couldn’t have been happier.

But here is some bad news folks. Sanjay, in an interview revealed that ‘Munna Bhai Chale America’ is not going to happen because the actor cannot get an American visa.

However, if you are disappointed, then here’s something to provide you some relief. There is going to be a third installment and its scripting is currently underway.

On being asked if the third part will be anywhere close to the storyline shown in the trailer, Dutt said. “No, I don’t think so. Since I can’t get an American Visa, it’s not going to happen,” Dutt said.

When asked about the progress, Dutt further added, “As far as I know from the conversations with Raju ji and Vinod ji, scripting is going on right now. As soon as they finish shooting for the biopic (on Sanjay Dutt), Raju ji will start working on the script himself. And I am hoping by everyone’s wishes and God’s grace, the film will be ready by next year.”

This news has got us jumping with joy and we can’t wait to see what the Munna-Circuit duo have in store for us.

However, if next year sounds too far to you, then go ahead and watch ‘Bhoomi’ which is all set to hit the theatres on 22nd of September, 2017.

Groundbreaking and heartbreaking at the same time.

9. The Ten Commandments

Hebrew Moses is set adrift on the River Nile by his mother and his sister. Rescued by the daughter of Pharaoh, he starts to believe he is an Egyptian prince. Moses later discovers his Hebrew heritage and dedicates himself to liberating his people from captivity and manages to lead them out of Egypt and across the Red Sea.

10. Gladiator

Gladiator tells the story of a powerful Roman general, Maximus. Loved by the people and the aging Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, Maximus is chosen to be his heir leaving the Emperor’s son, Commodus raging. Maximus who is ordered to be put to death along with his family, manages to escape his would-be killers and comes back to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge.

11. Dunkirk

‘Dunkirk’ is set during the World War II and tells a story from 3 different perspectives, about the evacuation of Allied troops from the French city of Dunkirk before Nazi forces took hold.

12. Apocalypto

The Maya civilization is facing its decline and the rulers insist that the only way to save it is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices to please the Gods. Kangana Ranaut left everyone in utter shock and disbelief when she gave one hell of an interview last week, with Rajat Sharma, the host of India TV show’s ‘Aap Ki Adalat’. She was definitely in a tell-all mood as she didn’t shy away from any of the allegations or questions that were posed to her. However, what caught everybody’s attention were her candid answers concerning her ex-beau Hrithik Roshan.

Fans and the Bollywood fraternity went into frenzy as the actress revealed personal details about their relationship and didn’t mince her words, at all. Some appreciated her for having the guts to speak so openly on a public platform, whereas the interview didn’t go down well with others. One of them is Bollywood singer, Sona Mohapatra.

Sona, who is known for her bold and outspoken personality, took to her Facebook account to address Kangana’s latest interview. In an open letter to Kangana, she revealed what all she feels about her revelations.

She is of the opinion that the interview was a “part of a professional PR campaign” before Kangana’s next film, ‘Simran’ is released and says that the PR stunt was “in bad taste”.

She goes on to inculcate the issue of topic of feminism by saying that, “it does a big dis-service to the cause of feminism & fair play.” She even went ahead and called the entire situation as “circus” and ended the post on an unrelated note, by wishing the readers a “Happy Onam”.

The allegations made by Kangana in this interview also received a rather ‘subtle’ response from Hrithik’s ex-wife, Sussanne Khan. The ace interior designer came out in her ex-husband’s support and posted a selfie on her Twitter account. The whole Kangana-Hrithik feud came into the limelight last year, when Kangana received a legal notice from Hrithik asking for an apology for referring to him as her ‘silly ex’ in an interview. Kangana then began to share the details of an alleged affair with Hrithik, which was repeatedly denied by latter.

So when ‘Wonder Woman’ released in the month of May 2017, fans of the DC Comics’ character were overjoyed. Starring Gal Gadot in the lead, ‘Wonder Woman’ is the first superhero movie directed by a woman (Patty Jenkins) and thus, high expectations were riding on this, one of a kind movie.

However, if the release of a woman-centric superhero movie made the feminist in you jump with joy, we have another reason to make you all the more happy.

Although, snatching away the 4th stage from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ would be a little far-fetched, the fact that Wonder Woman has managed to reach the 5th position, among all the men-centric superhero films, is an achievement in itself. Also, the opening figures act as an important factor; ‘Wonder Woman’ opened at $103 million, while all the four films above it in the list opened at $160 million or higher.

Apart from the high earnings that the film has raked in, ‘Wonder Woman’ was praised by one and all. During the Kargil war, Captain Vikram Batra was given the responsibility to get the target point 5140 released from the Pakistan Army. Despite it being one of the toughest operations, Batra managed to capture the Tiger Hill with his soldiers on 20th June 1999. His compelling story has won the hearts of millions of Indians.

Sidharth, who is currently all prepped up for ‘Aiyaary’, along with Manoj Bajpaaye, will reportedly start shooting for the biopic next year. Just like his latest release ‘A Gentleman’, he’ll play a double role in the biopic too as Captain Batra had an identical twin brother, Vishal.

The biopic will be a first for this rising superstar as ‘Aiyaary’, though based on real life incidents, is not a biography. Given that Sidharth’s grandfather was in the army, the decision to star in a biopic on the legendary Captain probably comes naturally to him.

The star, who is currently tight-lipped about this future project, did reveal earlier in an interview that he would be really interested in doing a biopic, “There so many more personalities that we know and don’t know about. There are actually, a couple of scripts in the working before I take the name and disclose it. I think once they are confirmed, I will announce them. That is something I would really be interested in portraying a character or a story which is actually happened.”

Sidharth is currently busy filming for multiple projects. Although ‘A Gentleman’ didn’t exactly turn out to be a blockbuster, his upcoming projects- ‘Aiyaary’ and ‘Ittefaq’ which are set to be released next year, definitely seem promising.

4. Shutter Island

Leonardo DiCaprio fans, this one’s for you. Some consider ‘Shutter Island’ as one of his best works and one of the best psychological thrillers ever made. The movie is set in 1954, when U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo) is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. But things start to go haywire as soon he begins his investigation. The extraordinary acting, suspense and just the right amount of clues, this movie will keep you guessing till the end.

5. Psycho

This is the perfect combination of horror and thriller. The movie revolves around a young female embezzler, who after stealing a lot of cash from a man whom her boss is in business with, arrives at the Bates Motel, which has bewildering secrets of its own.

The movie was filmed in 1960s and is bound to take you back in time with its realism. Great characters, fantastic direction and music; make this one a classic.

6. Let Me In

First things first, ‘Let Me’ In involves a character who is a vampire. But that doesn’t make this movie any less good as calling this film a “vampire movie” doesn’t really do it justice. It tells the story of a bullied 12-year-old boy who befriends his female neighbor whose life itself is a mystery. The movie is an adaptation of the 2008 Swedish film ‘Let the Right One In’.

The movie is part thriller, part drama, part love story, and yet it manages to be extremely captivating.
