Karan V Grover who is playing a rock star in the new web series titled Spotlight 2, written and produced by Vikram Bhatt, says this show has given a chance to change his image of a good boy

Karan V Grover who is playing a rock star in the new web series titled Spotlight 2, written and produced by Vikram Bhatt, says this show has given a chance to change his image of a good boy. The story of the show revolves around the singer, Vicky, who goes through very emotional highs and lows in his journey as a musician.

Asked about what made him choose the show, Karan told IANS here that “this web series given me a chance to change my image as an actor. So far I have never played a guy who has so much emotional ups and downs through the whole show. “He is a musician who reaches the pinnacle of success and then falls down to a level from where he becomes life threat for himself, under the influence of drugs.”

According to him, there are some moments where Karan felt quite scared to depict the destructive nature of his character.

“Since there are no similarities the character has with me as an individual, there are some points of the shooting I felt really scared of him. I mean Vicky does drugs, smoke cigarettes, takes his achievements, people and his loved ones for granted and has every bad habit. So, yes, I had no hangover of Vicky but thinking about the existence of such a character scared me.

“I do not smoke; neither do I encourage smoking to anyone. But, during the scenes I smoked and later I started worrying about if I am getting addicted to it,” he added.

Since he is playing a character that has many grey shades and does much wrong, Karan, asked how he convinced himself to play it, said: “Well, I take all my opinion and throw them out of the window when I am playing a character. My individual opinion does not come in between; on set, I am following the vision of the director.”

Starting his career with TV show “Saarrthi”, he appeared in several daily soaps like “Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki”, “Punar Vivah – Ek Nayi Umeed” among many others. in fact, he bagged Kalakar Awards in Best Actor category for “Punar Vivah”.

Though he acted in only one film “Wedding Pullav” in 2015, Karan, asked about if he wants to explore Bollywood more, said: “I have worked in television for 10 years. So for me, TV and web are my primary interest and getting a film is a matter of opportunity. If it comes my way, I will explore. Meanwhile, I will be doing TV and digital shows. I am happy with it.”

Produced and written by Bhatt and directed by Suhail Tatari, “Spotlight 2” featuring him and Aditi Arya is streaming on digital platform Viu.

Despite coming from an unconventional family set-up, Shruti Haasan says that her parents’ marriage has not made her cynical

Shruti Haasan

Shruti Haasan, who recently celebrated her birthday, is intent on pursuing a career in music. Although acting remains one of her passions, she wants to “take a step back” from juggling film assignments and instead, concentrate on scoring and singing a few ditties. “Music is my focus right now,” she tells mid-day, emphasising that it has a calming effect on her. “As an artiste, I can’t be constricted. It is essential that I constantly keep reinventing myself. This year will see me come up with my own singles.”

Haasan points out that the monotony of churning out films nudged her towards exploring her creative streak beyond acting. “Three industries and multiple films simultaneously were leaving little time for me to find myself. People were forming opinions about me, almost to the point of pigeonholing and that’s the last thing I want,” says Haasan, who has previously sung and composed for several films.

The actor, who divides her time between Los Angeles and London, is in a happy space with beau Michael Corsale, but is in no hurry to tie the knot. “I’m tired of the marriage rumours. Everyone knows about him, but I don’t see why I should speak about him.” Despite coming from an unconventional family set-up, Haasan says that her parents’ marriage has not made her cynical. “That was their life, this is mine. I know how to hold on to my relationships.”

Actress Tillotama Shome says singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s comment on Swara Bhasker’s open letter on Padmaavat was ridiculous.

tilottama shome

Actress Tillotama Shome says singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s comment on Swara Bhasker’s open letter on “Padmaavat” was ridiculous. She feels people are free to express their opinion, but it becomes problematic when they start taking things out of context. Tillotama was amongst the first few celebrities to speak up for Swara following the wrath she faced on social media after sharing her opinion of “Padmaavat”. Suchitra and director Vivek Agnihotri were among those who raised a finger at Swara for “fake feminism” over her comment that she felt reduced to a “vagina only” after watching “Padmaavat”.

Continuing to defend Swara and the freedom of expression, Tillotama told IANS: “I would like to say that Swara has just put herself out there and expressed her emotions about how she felt after watching the film and I think she is absolutely free to express that. “What I found very strange and difficult to understand that remarks from other people like Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Vivek Agnihotri who have completely twisted what she said out of context. “One suggested that she can’t talk about feeling reduced to a vagina… And she can’t express that because she has played the role of a prostitute. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

I can play a prostitute or I can play a pious character on-screen and yet be entitled to an opinion, and certainly do not need to be raped to understand what a vagina feels like. “I think whether you like what Swara has written or not is absolutely personal and you are absolutely free to express that, but I think complicating it and taking it out of context is very problematic.” Swara’s critique of “Padmaavat” as a movie that glorifies Sati and Jauhar, sparked a war of words between celebrities.

Three years after his divorce from Shweta Rohira, actor Pulkit Samrat says he believes in love but is unsure if he still has faith in the institution of marriage

pulkit samrat

Three years after his divorce from Shweta Rohira, actor Pulkit Samrat says he believes in love but is unsure if he still has faith in the institution of marriage. Pulkit had married long-time girlfriend Shweta Rohira in November 2014 but they split a year later. When asked whether he still has faith in the institution of marriage, Pulkit told reporters, “I don’t know. In love, definitely (I have faith), but I don’t know if that certificate means something right now where I stand. So I don’t have a comment on that. But maybe later…” The actor was speaking at the trailer launch of his film, “Veerey Ki Wedding”, here today. The

“Fukrey” actor said being single, he would now grab unconditional love from wherever it is coming from, including his pet. “Someone asked me yesterday, how are you going to celebrate this Valentine’s Day as a single (man). I said I’d rather be with my dog because that’s a hundred per cent, sure-shot guaranteed affair that’ll last forever, nothing else will. Wherever you get unconditional love, just grab it.” The film also stars Kriti Kharbanda, who most recently featured in “Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana” opposite Rajkummar Rao. The title bares an uncanny resemblance to the forthcoming Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer “Veerey Di Wedding”.

Pulkit said there should be no confusion between the two films. “There were five Bhagat Singh films, which released together. They had a similar plot as well. Here, only the title is similar. The makers had the title already and then the other one got announced… Both are different films.” The film is scheduled to be released on March 9.

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who played a negative role in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again, says he is glad about carving a niche for himself in the negative zone

neil nitin mukesh

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who played a negative role in Rohit Shetty’s “Golmaal Again”, says he is glad about carving a niche for himself in the negative zone.

Neil, despite his chocolate boy looks, mostly features in negative characters in movie.

Talking about this inclination, Neil said: “I did negative roles from the beginning of my career. Be it in ‘Johnny Gaddaar’, ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’, ‘David’… I don’t look at roles as positive or negative. I just see that whether that character will create impact on screen or not, irrespective of screen time of that character.

“So it doesn’t make difference to me. As an actor, I feel you need to have conviction when you go out there. At least, I am glad that in the aspect of negative roles, I have carved niche for myself.”

Neil attended Atharva Foundation’s special initiative to pay tribute to the Indian armed forces, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as well as Vikram Gokhale, Aftab Shivdasani, Kapil Dev, Madhur Bhandarkar and Rohini Hattangadi here on Wednesday.

Neil also spoke about his upcoming film “Saaho”, a multi-lingual film starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor. Neil once again plays a negative character.

“‘Saaho’ is shaping up really well. We are now preparing for action sequences of ‘Saaho’. Sujeeth is very good. He is only 26 years old but is a brilliant director. I gained weight for ‘Saaho’ but now I have to reduce that. I am finding it a bit difficult. But I think that transformation will be fun,” he said.

On Atharva Foundation’s initiative where dignitaries felicitated some Indian soldiers and their families, Neil said: “I am grateful that Sunil Rane and Atharva Foundation invited me for this initiative. As an actor, I can only say that there is lot of difference between real and reel life and because of these people (Indian soldiers), we are living happily and beautifully.”

Asked if he would like to play an army man in a film, Neil said: “Why not? It is not because the fact that I will get an opportunity to hold the gun or wear the uniform of an army officer, but if any filmmaker offers me role of an army man, then I would love to do it only to honour those people, who fought for us.”

Apart from “Saaho”, Neil will also be seen in “Firrkie”, along with Kay Kay Menon, Karan Singh Grover and Sandeepa Dhar.
