Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who played a negative role in Rohit Shetty’s “Golmaal Again”, says he is glad about carving a niche for himself in the negative zone.

Neil, despite his chocolate boy looks, mostly features in negative characters in movie.

Talking about this inclination, Neil said: “I did negative roles from the beginning of my career. Be it in ‘Johnny Gaddaar’, ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’, ‘David’… I don’t look at roles as positive or negative. I just see that whether that character will create impact on screen or not, irrespective of screen time of that character.

“So it doesn’t make difference to me. As an actor, I feel you need to have conviction when you go out there. At least, I am glad that in the aspect of negative roles, I have carved niche for myself.”

Neil attended Atharva Foundation’s special initiative to pay tribute to the Indian armed forces, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as well as Vikram Gokhale, Aftab Shivdasani, Kapil Dev, Madhur Bhandarkar and Rohini Hattangadi here on Wednesday.

Neil also spoke about his upcoming film “Saaho”, a multi-lingual film starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor. Neil once again plays a negative character.

“‘Saaho’ is shaping up really well. We are now preparing for action sequences of ‘Saaho’. Sujeeth is very good. He is only 26 years old but is a brilliant director. I gained weight for ‘Saaho’ but now I have to reduce that. I am finding it a bit difficult. But I think that transformation will be fun,” he said.

On Atharva Foundation’s initiative where dignitaries felicitated some Indian soldiers and their families, Neil said: “I am grateful that Sunil Rane and Atharva Foundation invited me for this initiative. As an actor, I can only say that there is lot of difference between real and reel life and because of these people (Indian soldiers), we are living happily and beautifully.”

Asked if he would like to play an army man in a film, Neil said: “Why not? It is not because the fact that I will get an opportunity to hold the gun or wear the uniform of an army officer, but if any filmmaker offers me role of an army man, then I would love to do it only to honour those people, who fought for us.”

Apart from “Saaho”, Neil will also be seen in “Firrkie”, along with Kay Kay Menon, Karan Singh Grover and Sandeepa Dhar.

Neil Nitin Mukesh and Rukmini Sahay

Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh will be celebrating his first Ganpati with his beau Rukmini this year at his residence and his family is going the extra mile to ensure it’s a memorable one.

The theme for the family’s 23rd Ganpati will be based on the deities Krishna and Rukmini with Rasleela coming to life this year.

As part of a traditional ceremony, Neil will make Rukmini wear an anklet right after the Ganpati Pooja that was given by the family’s spiritual consultant a few years ago to Neil’s mother Nishi Mukesh for her to-be daughter-in-law.

After the first few days of Ganesh Chaturthi, Neil will also be taking his first honeymoon with Rukmini to London and the couple will be gone for a whole five weeks.

While Neil will be working for the first three weeks on his next film ‘Firrkie’, the remaining two weeks will be devoted to his wife.

Neil Nitin Mukesh states, ‘My mother always desired of a Radharani theme for Ganpati since she is a devout Krishna follower so this year her long lasting desire has been fulfilled. It’s been exactly one year since I met Rukmini and Bappa truly fulfilled my heart’s desire. I clearly remember it was the first day of Ganpati last year when I met Rukmini and the minute she told me her name I was convinced that she was the one for me.’

Speaking about his honeymoon, he states, ‘This year however I won’t be there for the full 10 days as I am off on a working honeymoon with Rukmini. She quite enjoys coming to the sets as that’s the only way we get to spend time with each other and she’s quite the hands on wife. Ever since I got married I’ve just been busy with work and Rukmini deserves my complete attention so I will be exctending my trip in London since London is her favourite holiday destination.’

On the professional front, Neil is busy with films including ‘Saaho’, ‘Golmaal Again’ and ‘Firrkie’.

Mumbai, Dec 16: Filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar’s bilingual film “David” was to feature Neil Nitin Mukesh in both Hindi and Tamil versions, but the actor would now be seen only in Hindi.

“There are three stories in ‘David’, one set in London in 1975 in black-and-white featuring Neil as a gangster. The second story features the ‘Speedy Singhs’ actor Vinay Virmani in Hindi and Jeeva in Tamil as the respective protagonist of a plot set in Mumbai in 1999,” said a source.

“And the third is a story set in Goa in 2010, featuring Tamil superstar Vikram with Tabu in both Hindi and Tamil. Neil’s part was supposed to be common to both Hindi and Tamil. But now Neil’s section has been scrapped from the Tamil version,” the source added.

Nambiar doesn’t deny these developments.

“It is true a decision has been taken to scrap Neil’s story from the Tamil version of ‘David’. Now, the Tamil version of the film is shorter than the Hindi version. While the Hindi version would finally be approximately two hours and 30 minutes long the Tamil version is only two hours and 10 minutes long,” the filmmaker said.

Explaining the “creative decision” to keep Neil out, Nambiar said, “Neil was really looking forward to his Tamil debut and he had worked hard on it. He has been a pillar of strength throughout the making of the film. But it can’t be helped.”

“There are certain practical considerations. Now only the stories featuring Vikram and Jeeva are part of the Tamil version. Rather than think that Neil has been kept out of the Tamil version, I’d think Neil is exclusive to the Hindi version,” he added.

However, Neil is completely fine with the decision.

” ‘David’ is a sync-sound film. We had two options. Either I dub later in Tamil and thereby kill some of the impact of the original dialogues, or we edit my story out of the Tamil version,” he said.

“It was a creative decision taken by my producers, my director and me to edit out my story from the Tamil. So while the Tamil version would have two stories featuring Vikram and Jeeva, the Hindi version will have Vikram, Vinay Virmani and me in three stories. I am so looking forward to ‘David’. Bejoy Nambiar is a bloody incredible director. I consider him the Quentin Tarantino of our cinema,” he added.

There is some disappointment in store for Neil Nitin Mukesh. Bejoy Nambiar’s Hindi-Tamil bi-lingual David which was to feature Neil in both the languages would now have the actor only in Hindi.

Says a source, “There are three stories in David, one set in London in 1975 in black-and-white featuring Neil as a gangster. Now the Tamil version of the film is shorter than the Hindi version. While the Hindi version would finally be approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes long, the Tamil version is only 2 hours and 10 minutes long.”

Explaining the ‘creative decision’ to keep Neil out in Tamil, Bejoy says, “Neil was really looking forward to his Tamil debut and he had worked hard on it. Taking the knock-off sportingly on his chin, Neil Nitin Mukesh says, “David is a sync-sound film. We had two options.
