Veere Di Wedding actress Sonam Kapoor says she is a very private person

Sonam Kapoor

Actress Sonam Kapoor, who is all set to tie the knot with her long-time Delhi-based businessman boyfriend Anand Ahuja, says she is an extremely private person and is very protective about her personal life. The Khoobsurat actress has always maintained silence about her relationship with Anand and is even tight-lipped about her wedding. The families of the couple confirmed last week that they will tie the knot on May 8.

Asked if she is open to talk about her personal life, Sonam told IANS over e-mail from Mumbai: “I am very protective about my personal life. I’m an extremely private person and I do feel somewhere that it takes away attention from your work.” Sonam and Anand have been dating for some years, but it is only since a few months that they have been open about their moments and travel diaries together on social media. Soon after her wedding, the actress will be seen on the silver screen in the film Veere Di Wedding and she says that it’s a “very commercial film”.

“It’s a genuine film about four women and there is no lead role. I am really excited to work with Kareena (Kapoor Khan), Swara (Bhaskar) and Shikha (Talsania). They are all wonderfully talented women and actors,” she added. Sonam Kapoor strongly believes that Bollywood needed its own girl-bonding film. “So far the films being made are specifically for women, with related themes. Why do women-oriented films have to be hard-hitting for them to make an impact? Veere Di Wedding is a film for women and their men too,” said the 32-year-old actress.

A week after her D-day, Sonam will be seen at the 71st Cannes Film Festival red carpet to fulfil her commitment as a L’oreal Paris brand ambassador on May 14 and May 15. She says she is looking forward to the energy at the gala.

“I enjoy everything the festival has to offer, without the pressure. Also, this year, I am looking forward to the entire L’Oréal Paris #SummerEscape experience — the beach, the Riviera, lounging by the sea and, of course, meeting the other L’Oréal Paris ambassadors!” she said. The Aisha actress says she always loves experimenting when it comes to fashion.

“I completely trust Rhea (Sonam’s younger sister) and her team as she always knows what looks best on me. I am also very excited to see the looks the brand’s dream team have designed for me using the #SummerEscape Cannes Collection. The collection has bold and bright shades which are inspired by the colours of summer,” she said.

There has always been a debate about how Indian celebrities’ presence is larger in terms of endorsements and less for films. So what does Sonam have to say to that? “The responsibility is just about the same. Celebrities are ambassadors for their respective countries, whether representing a brand or a film. I do understand that while the festival is spoken highly about in terms of the fashion, over the years the press has definitely made it as much about the films as fashion,” said Sonam.

But the Neerja actress does not take criticism of her fashion very seriously. “Everyone has hits and misses and I’ve never really taken the trolling seriously. I enjoy dressing up and I take criticism with a pinch of salt,” she added.

Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar is in mood to take up full-fledged acting jobs. The director-producer, who made his acting debut in Hindi films with Anurag Kashyap’s box office debacle, Bombay Velvet, believes he is a “big flop actor”.

Karan was recently seen in Welcome to New York and the film, featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Diljit Dosanjh, also bombed. When asked if he would like to take up acting offers in Marathi cinema, Karan said, “I am a big flop actor. None of my films run. I did ‘Bombay Velvet’ and ‘Welcome to New York’. and both didn’t work. Nobody should cast me in any film. I should not be taken. No viability with me. I am a very big flop actor.”

The filmmaker, however, is ok doing cameo appearances in movies. Karan Johar was speaking at the trailer launch of Bucket List, a Marathi film that the he is presenting. The film marks dancing diva Madhuri Dixit‘s debut in Marathi cinema. Meanwhile, when prodded about “Kalank”, that brings Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri on the big screen together after a gap of more than two decades, Karan refused to comment saying, “it is not the right time to talk about it”.

Abeer Soofi’s fans have been also pouring him with birthday wishes

Abeer Soofi

Actor Abeer Soofi says after playing the “peaceful” role of Sai Baba in a TV show, he would like to portray an “aggressive” character. “I have enacted multiple roles like negative, political and comic. This is the first time that I’m playing such a peaceful role and I’m loving it,” Abeer told IANS.

“In the near future, I would love to play an aggressive role. At times, being an actor I do get scared to play Sai Baba as it is easy to get constricted to a particular mould and maybe, I could get stuck in similar devotional roles. But when I look at all the love and adulation from our audiences, I forget all the tension in an instant,” he added.

His fans have been also pouring him with birthday wishes. “My fans have been calling me and asking via messages and social media about my choice of cake as they would want to bring it to the set for me,” said Abeer, who will turn a year older on Sunday.

“I always celebrate my birthday with family and friends. This year I am shooting for ‘Mere Sai’ so, I am not sure if I will get time for any celebration. If I am able to take out time, I will definitely celebrate with my fans and friends,” he added. “Mere Sai” is aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

Actress Rani Mukerji, who is currently riding high on the success of her comeback film “Hichki”, says age or marital status of an actress has nothing to do with a films failure or success

Rani Mukerji
Rani Mukerji

Actress Rani Mukerji, who is currently riding high on the success of her comeback film Hichki, says age or marital status of an actress has nothing to do with a film’s failure or success. Asked if she feels that age and marital status of an actress considered detrimental in the industry, Rani told IANS over the phone from Mumbai: “The success of Hichki has changed a lot of that thinking… It is important to understand that the audience is changing. They want to see a good film and a content-oriented film… When you give them a good film they don’t really care what your martial status is.”

Rani Mukerji, 40, says that the audience wants to be “entertained by films”. “What I am doing in my personal life is none of anyone’s business… What I do outside my work is not really important as long as I am doing films and the roles that suit me and the roles which I feel the audience will connect with,” she added. The actress is married to Yash Raj Films’ head honcho Aditya Chopra. She tied the knot in 2014 and welcomed her first child — a daughter named Adira in 2015.

The Aiyyaa actress asserts that “so many actresses have already proven that marital status is not important”. “A film not doing well also happens to actors who are not married and who don’t have babies. Just because a married actress comes back and her film is not doing well lets not blame her personal life,” she said. The Mardaani actress concluded by saying: “Let’s keep it casual and say that the film was not good that is why the film did not work or the film is really good and that’s why the film is working.”

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, one of the most widely followed Indian celebrities on Twitter, has once again written to the micro-blogging platform’s management requesting them to increase the “number” of followers. Big B on Friday tweeted that he has been posting a lot and even asked them if something else needs to be done to increase the number of followers.

“Arre yaar Twitterji. Yaar ab toh hamare numbers badha do (At least now increase my number of Twitter followers). Kab se itna kuch dal rahe hain (I am posting so much)… Kuch aur karna ho, number badhane ke liye to bolo (Let me know if I have to do something else to increase the number followers),” Amitabh Bachchan, 75, wrote.

Big B’s official and verified Twitter handle @SrBachchan has 34.3 million followers. Earlier this week, the thespian had questioned the micro-blogging platform’s management about how they manage to keep the number of followers constant. He has also threatened to quit Twitter, accusing the micro-blogging website of reducing his followers.

That time, the fan following of Big B quickly dropped from 33 million to 32.9 million. It led a team of officials from Twitter to met him. On the film front, Amitabh will be seen in “102 Not Out” along with veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

Actress-singer Mandy Moore likes to have fun with her beauty routine, but says she feels “more” like herself when she has dark brown hair. “I feel my most comfortable, most like myself, when I’m a brunette,” Moore told eonline.com.

Asked if her fiance, Taylor Goldsmith, loves her hair as much as she does, she said: “I think this is really all that he’s really known me as, so I’m going to say he’s a fan of the brunette as well.” Moore hasn’t always been brunette.

The actress had also posted a throwback picture of a “gnarly hairstyle” from 1999. The photograph captures the “I want to be with you” singer as a “deep true blonde”, wearing a zig-zag parting, glued-on hair crystals and spiked low buns. “I feel more like myself as a brunette,” she reiterated.

Asserting that his love for his craft is enough, Rishi Kapoor says he will “never” explore direction again

Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor

Rishi Kapoor is not one to evade questions, but he does tire of repetition. “How many times can I answer the same questions over and over again? It’s either about the role or the film? Ask me kuch alag.” So we ask him “kuch alag”. We ask him to reflect on his past ventures, like, maybe, Ranbhoomi (1991), also starring Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha. “Why are you reminding me about it,” he groans. “It was an awful film, which is better forgotten. Ask me something else.”

Seated with the veteran at a Juhu hotel, we’re instantly reminded about how this place was once the hotspot for stars, including him. “Yes it was, years ago. This was the happening place. Today, every memory of my life is at least 30 to 40 years old. This generation refers to me as Ranbir Kapoor‘s father. That’s fine. I live in the present. I’m not one to keep saying, ‘Hamara bhi zamaana tha.’ You must move on with the time.”

Playing father to Rishi Kapoor in the upcoming venture 102 Not Out
Playing father to Rishi Kapoor in the upcoming venture 102 Not Out

Moving on in his career, however, has landed Rishi Kapoor back in time. His recent venture, 102 Not Out, sees him collaborate with an artiste he shared screen space with 27 years ago. “Amitji [Amitabh Bachchan] has played my step father-in-law, brother and buddy. Now, I am playing his son. I have been working with him for 44 years. It is not that I haven’t met him throughout these years. We catch up at social gatherings. He is a challenging and delightful actor. I consider myself a student of cinema, so I continously learn from him.”

Even though their collaboration has given the industry masterpieces like Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Naseeb (1981) and Coolie (1983), among others, Kapoor singles out Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) as a film that’s special. “People tell me today that [even] children love watching it. It is a timeless film, it is like watching Charlie Chaplin. You can watch it over and over again.”

Amitabh Bachchan has previously been seen as his brother in Amar Akbar Anthony
Amitabh Bachchan has previously been seen as his brother in Amar Akbar Anthony

Kapoor not only gives credit to audiences’ sensibilities when appreciating the films the like, but also points out that they are too evolved to accept poor content offered to them by filmmakers. “In the past, every film had the underlying lost-and-found theme. Every actor had at least four films that followed the ‘bachpan mein bichad gaye’ theme, and those films worked. At that time, the audience was forgiving. Today they will not accept anything. There is so much exposure,” he says, pointing towards the inevitable competition they face from Hollywood. “Viewers want chic films, interesting stories, the best popcorn and top amenities at the multiplex. Their demand is justified, given that they shell out R400 for a ticket.”

While the veteran loves to entertain those turning up at cinema halls with his acting prowess, he says they will “never” be witness to his abilities as director again. After wielding the directorial baton in 1991 for Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Aa Ab Laut Chalen, he confesses he’d rather “leave the stress” on set when working on a film. “An actor is a king. People will do salaam to you when you enter and exit the set. Directors or producers have to endure many hassles. I don’t want to go through the stress of acquiring great box office collections. I am 65 and have been working for over four decades. Why would I take on something more challenging than I can handle?”

Friend in Coolie
Friend in Coolie

Acting he says, is his passion, even if he never permitted his parents to notice how excited he was when he first harboured the thought of being an actor. When his father, the late Raj Kapoor casually spoke about including a young Rishi in his project, he was thrilled. “I ran into my room, took a sheet and started practising signing autographs. Cinema has his own charm. Movies are magical.”

It’s probably this admiration that he has for the industry that keeps him going. Even at 65, he has his hands full with his projects. He recently wrapped up Anubhav Sinha’s Mulk, and Leena Yadav’s Rajma Chawal, and will soon kickstart work on Malayalam director Jeetu Joseph’s Bollywood debut. He is also invested in the stage play based on his autobiography, Khullam Khulla.

“I have done shows in Dubai, Hong Kong, Bahrain and London. Most of the audience comprises people who are above 45 years of age, that’s a lot that has grown up watching my films, ones who know me.” But Kapoor’s is a name known across age groups. The young folk on Twitter know him as the man who can’t stop ranting. The actor has mastered the art of tackling trolls. “I keep taking panga on social media,” he smirks, adding, “But, what I tweet is straight from the heart.”

The promo of Ekta Kapoor’s fantasy drama, Naagin 3 is out and has Rajat Tokas, Karishma Tanna and Anita Hassanandani in lead roles. Colors took to their Instagram account to release the most-awaited promo of the show. Given that Mouni Roy’s Naagin was a huge hit, there was immense anticipation about Naagin 3.

The video shows Rajat Tokasand Karishma Tanna as lovers, who are attacked by a group of boys. The gang of men sexually assault  Karishma’s character and beat up Rajat, who plays the character of Naag Raj. Later, Karishma Tanna is re-born as Anita Hassanandani to take revenge for her lover’s death.

Watch the promo here:

Isn’t Naagin 3‘s story similar to the Manisha Koirala’s film, Jaani Dushman?

The character of third Naagin has still been kept under wraps. However, it is speculated that Surbhi Jyoti essays the character of the third Naagin.

The show’s first season had starred Mouni Roy, who was also a part of the second season. After essaying the character of a shape-shifting snake for two years, she bid adieu to the show — a move that she claims was “a tough decision.”
