Barring Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan who wore a Rohit Bal floor-length jacket, the designer duo’s friends, old and new, wore ensembles from Abu-Sandeep’s roster. How’s that for brand loyalty?

For once, nepotism proved good for business. Over the weekend, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla hosted a reception gala for the latter’s niece and the CEO of their brand, Saudamini Mattu, at a Juhu club. And it was a gathering of friends and family of the influential kind, dressed in the designated dress code – Indian festive. She was the style victor of the night. Her deep-tinted locks went well with the ivory bindi prodding same pinch with her saree tone, offset by a jade-hued neckpiece. The blouse had the daintiest of tassel details noticeable only when she swayed to Pallo Latke in comfy Kolhapuri flats.

Tanya Arvind Dubash

Whoever thought Mrs Dubash was all-work-and-no-play, think again. The executive director and chief brand officer of Godrej group stepped up to the glamour of the red carpet in a nude mesh and sequinned custom-made saree.

The unmistakable pre-wedding glow was in place as India’s darling fashionista made an appearance in a Phulwari black and white gharara. The mogra cha phirki gajra and maang tikka was a nice touch that the pretty-close-to-perfect to-be bride added.

The two gentlemen who mattered had something in common: moccasins in midnight blue. While Bachchan’s pair had tassels synonymous of the 1920s, KJo’s had spikes – both in gold.

The hosts who claim, “Chikan is our Birkin”, were dressed in white – their favourite shade. Jani wore a Mughal-inspired, full-pleated angrakha in luxurious buttery muslin, accessorised by a gigantic ruby ring. Khosla stuck to the trademark white tee worn under a floral gold cutwork kurta.

Amidst a lot of chaos and confusion, the much-awaited teaser of ‘Sanju’ dropped today in the afternoon. And so did our jaws when we saw how kickass Ranbir Kapoor looks while showcasing the many lives of Sanjay Dutt.

The recently released teaser has given us two valuable lessons today – first, Tom Hardy or Christian Bale have got nothing on Ranbir Kapoor when it comes to transformations; secondly, Twitter’s talent knows no bounds when it comes to meme-ing the hell out of something or someone.

He tasted stardom right at the beginning of his career, a feat that is achieved only by a handful of stars in Bollywood. Varun Dhawan has been steadily receiving the love and affection of millions from his ‘Student Of The Year’ days. While for many debutants this might still be a dream, for Varun it’s a reality that he has been living since his debut days.

The man has enjoyed success in a manner that no other actor has. Over the time he has proved how versatile he is as an actor and has tried his hands at a variety of roles in just a little time, proving just that.

Four out of his 10 films in his six-year-old career have already entered 100 crore club. While it took around two to three decades for the Khans and the Kapoors to reach that level of fame, Varun, on the other hand, did the impossible in a quick span of time.

Varun’s Bollywood journey actually follows a non-linear pattern. He first became a star, enjoyed the fame and then transformed into an exceptional actor, proving he was good in everything!

The First Break- ‘SOTY’

Varun Dhawan's Transformation From A Star To An Actor© dharma Productions

He started his journey with Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’. Being launched in B-town wasn’t a difficult task for him, being David Dhawan’s son. He had a godfather who had the podium set for him. Along with him, it was Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra who made their debut in the film industry in the same movie.

Millenial’s Govinda

Varun Dhawan's Transformation From A Star To An Actor© Twitter

While most debutants look for films after their first one, Varun was seen after a gap of two years with father David Dhawan’s directorial – ‘Main Tera Hero’. The film wasn’t an extraordinary one, but his comic-timing was enough to make numbers at the box office and impress the audience. Sreenath aka Seenu was different than Rohan Nanda and that was enough to give viewers a glimpse of his talent. In fact, Varun became the millennial’s Govinda.

Then Came Varun The Actor

Varun Dhawan's Transformation From A Star To An Actor© Twitter

2015, established Varun Dhawan as an actor. Well, we already knew he could deliver a commercially successful film, but with ‘Badlapur’ his image as an artist changed. He wasn’t just an entertainer anymore, he was more than that. He was an actor who understood his craft, who got into the skin of his character and connected with the audience instantly. His portrayal of Raghu, a miserable man shattered with the loss of his wife and son, out for revenge, was nothing but an example of sheer talent.

After being part of two different movies playing a rom-com role, watching him hungry for vengeance surprised many. And what made him earn peoples’ respect was the way he stood his ground despite having an actor like Nawazuddin Siddiqui against him.

When Nawaz can easily take away the spotlight from someone like SRK in ‘Raees’, doing the same with Varun wouldn’t have been difficult. But it was absolutely thrilling to see how Varun held his own, transforming from the candyfloss hero in ‘SOTY’ to a force to be reckoned with in ‘Badlapur’, one who could stand shoulder to shoulder with seasoned performers like Nawaz.

The Dancing Star

Then came Remo D’Souza’s ‘ABCD 2’ in 2015, where we saw Varun dancing up a storm and putting his heart and soul into his character. From stepping into the shoes of a professional dancer to being hailed for his performance, Varun was continuously proving the naysayers wrong that he was not just a product of nepotism. ‘ABCD 2’ was his first movie that entered the 100 crore club.

Paying The Price For Bad Scripts

In the same year came ‘Dilwale’. A movie that marked the comeback of the iconic duo of Kajol and SRK. However, the movie tanked and the horrific script is to be blamed for it. But despite being a flop, it easily whopped 100 crores at the box office just because it was a King Khan movie.

What followed next was another movie with John Abraham. Nor did the film fare well nor was Varun appreciated for his work. As critics began attacking him for the string of flops, it was becoming evident that he was paying the price of choosing bad scripts.

Going Big In 2017

If Sreenath made us laugh, Humpty on the other side was the total filmy hero that the masses loved to watch. After ‘Main Tera Hero’ came ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, which was a tribute to Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. Alia Bhatt and Varun’s crackling chemistry did wonders on-screen. Not only did it get massive praise from the critics, but it also made big bucks at the box office. With this, he proved he could easily slip into different roles and do justice to the characters. This became his second 100 crore movie and then he got his third one last year with ‘Judwaa 2’. 2017 changed the entire game for Varun, making him the most bankable actor of the present generation.

The Show Goes On

In 2018, Varun appeared in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘October’, a movie that has got the entire nation talking about his brilliant acting. The movie which released recently wasn’t a cliché sappy love story but a story of profound love. Varun is being showered with praises for his most recent work and we couldn’t agree more. And now we will be seeing him soon in ‘Sui-Dhaaga’ with Anushka Sharma.

The Check List:

Rom-Com, check!

Versatility, Check!

A Great dancer, check!

Dark roles, check!

Intense actor, check!

All in all, we can say that Varun might be a nepotism baby, but the man has come a long way from that tag proving his worth and has built his career graph on his own terms and conditions.

In a time when getting people into the theatres is a tough job, his name is enough to fill the halls up, something that even Khans can’t do anymore. He has worked hard and has shown the world that he is more than just a star kid, and is a real star indeed.

Omkar Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015)

Omkar Kapoor had to recently shoot a pool sequence for the web series, Kaushiki. Sharing that filming in the cold pool for hours was challenging, the actor said, “We all were drinking brandy to keep ourselves warm.”

Omkar says he has got friends for life after working on web series Kaushiki. The Viu show features Sayani Gupta, Rannvijay Singha, Mansi Scott, Namit Das, Rajeev Siddhartha and Shruti Shrivastava amongst others. “The web series Kaushiki gave me friends for life. Rannvijay, Mansi Scott… in fact all the actors of the show bond really well with each other and like each other’s company,” Omkar said in a statement.

“During the shooting, we always looked forward to shoot breaks as we used to get time to spend with each other. I am glad that ‘Kaushiki’ happened to me, just like the show it has some amazing people associated with it,” he added. The show chronicles how relationships are tested when things go horribly wrong between a group of friends.

Omkar Kapoor, who made his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015), thinks the digital medium has an advantage over films in its massive reach. “Films might not release all over the world. But this platform allows you to reach the audience sitting halfway around the globe,” he points out.

Ask him if he is apprehensive about switching gears to web shows and he says, “The biggest actors in Hollywood and Bollywood are exploring the digital space. The best part about the web is that there aren’t any restrictions. I don’t view it as a downgrade from films.”

Airlift (2016) and Jolly LLB 2 (2017) actor Inaamulhaq’s next, Nakkash, is set to launch at the India Pavilion at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May. The makers of the film, which sees the actor in the lead role, will unveil the first look and the teaser at the event.

Evidently excited with the development, Inaamulhaq says, “I am still trying to come to terms with the fact that I’m going be part of the world’s most renowned film festival, where wonderful movies are screened every year. I am humbled and grateful to those whose contribution has helped me achieve my dream.”

Zaigham Imam’s directorial venture is based on Nakkashi art in Varanasi temples. Inaamulhaq says he underwent a fair share of training to learn the art. “It was difficult but interesting. The factory where I underwent training was always noisy given the continuous hammering of metals. On the first day, I could not bear to be in the venue for over three hours. But eventually, I got used to it,” he signs off.

Anushka Sharma also expressed her disgust on the Kathua rape case

Anushka Sharma

Responding on the ordinance to amend Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Bollywood star Anushka Sharma affirmed that she is in ‘1000 percent’ support of the ordinance. The Centre on April 21 cleared the amendment in the POCSO Act to award death sentence to the rapists of children below the age of 12.

“The most severe punishment has to be vetted out to the people involved. So, I am in absolute support of it, 1000 percent. Child rape is the worst thing a human being can do,” the Sultan star said at an event on Monday.

Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma also expressed her disgust on the Kathua rape case where an eight-year-old girl, belonging to a nomadic Muslim tribe, was allegedly abducted, drugged, gang-raped, tortured and killed in January.

“I, like everyone in this country, am deeply hurt and affected by the incident. Even now, when I think or talk about it, I feel disgusted and extremely emotional,” said Anushka.

Two months ago, we got the first look of Venom, showing a jaded Tom Hardy walking down the streets, riding bikes and getting a CT scan. However, we never really got to see Hardy’s true character Eddie Brock transforming into the evil Venom, but the wait is finally over and believe us when we say the wait is worth it.

The latest trailer dropped today and it introduces us to Hardy’s transformation into the scary anti-hero.

The New Venom Trailer Finally Introduces Us To Tom Hardys Sinister Alter-Ego© Sony

The trailer shows how he gets infected with the ‘Symbiote’ (an alien parasite), that requires a host to survive. The first host for this venom was Spider-Man, but Peter Parker got rid of it after he realised how dark and dangerous it can be. Soon the alien element finds itself another host in journalist Brock

Going by the comic books Carlton Drake, a twisted Silicon Valley bioresearch scientist, is fascinated by the alien element and creates different variations of the symbiote- Lasher, Phage, Scream, Agony, and Riot.

Coming to the rival, while there were tons of speculations that Cletus Kasady aka Carnage will be the main antagonist, it looks like Carlton Drake played by Riz Ahmed (head of Life Foundation) might actually be the one.  Yeah, they are the same evil gang who were after Spider-Man.

Also in the film, Scott Haze will be seen as Roland Treece. We also have Reid Scott as Patrick Mulligan aka Toxin, the third famous symbiote. In case you forgot, he is the first symbiote to actually have an alliance with Spidy and an on and off equation with Venom.

Even though Venom isn’t part of MCU, it still is part of the same world and we can expect another crossover. Wouldn’t that be exciting? The makers will also be coming up with new superhero films like ‘Nightwatch’, ‘Silver and Black’ to name a few.

The movie will hit the screens on 5th October and we are totally ready to witness Tom Hardy’s sinister alter-ego.
