After facing few initial failures, Kartik Aaryan is now happy to have reached a place where he can call himself a “relatable hero”. While Kartik’s 2011 debut “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” went on to become a sleeper hit giving him critical and commercial acclaim, his next two projects, “Akaash Vani” and “Kaanchi” bombed at the box office. But he bounced back with “Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2”. His last released film was “Guest Iin London” which got negative reviews. In an interview with PTI, Kartik said despite achieving his share of success he is happy that the audience has loved him at a time when he is still trying to create his own niche in the film industry. “I’m still at the start of my career and don’t feel ‘I’ve arrived.’

People relate to my characters and see me in a different way. They identify with me and remember the nuances of my characters. I’m happy being the relatable hero,” he said. While he credited director Luv Ranjan for creating this persona of a “loveable relatable hero” Kartik also admitted that living the life of an actor¿with or without the baggage of an image is not easy. “Life of an actor is not his or hers, it’s everyone’s life. Nothing is private, nothing is personal. If you’re doing great in terms of work, that’s the price you’ve to give.”

Kartik recalled, when he was doing “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” lot of people suggested him to not take up the film as it was helmed by a new director and also the fact that it was a multi-starrer and he will not get noticed. As audiences showered their love on “Pyaar Ka Punchnama”, Kartik said he got worried when two of his films ‘Akaash Vani’ and “Kaanchi” did not work. “… There was this drive to act but also to earn money as I came from Gwalior to act here and was staying with 12 people in a 2BHK flat during my first film. “The fear of ‘will I get to work again?’ was humongous. I know my talent when it comes to acting. But will I get the opportunity to showcase? That fear seeps in when an actor’s film fail back-to-back.” The 27-year-old actor said there was a time when he was not sure of how “Pyaar Ka Punchanama 2” would turn out as a package. The film eventually brought both, Kartik and director Luv back on track. “As the same team was coming after ‘Akaash Vaani’s’ failure… there was fear over the reaction of audience for the second part. But in retrospect, ‘..Punchnama 2’ looks like a winner. But that wasn’t the case.”

Kartik has again collaborated with Luv for his latest “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety”. The romantic comedy marks the duo’s fourth collaboration. The film is scheduled to be for the released on February 9, and also back his co-stars from “Pyaar Ka Punchanama” series Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh.

Indian actor Ali Fazal-starrer “Victoria & Abdul” has two nominations and Anupam Kher starrer “The Big Sick” stands a chance to win in one category at the 90th Academy Awards, where fantasy drama “The Shape of Water” has a maximum of 13 nods.

“Victoria & Abdul”, a movie about a unique bond between Queen Victoria and her Indian Muslim servant Abdul Karim, stands a chance to win in the Best Costume Design and Make-up and Hairstyling categories. In the film, Ali plays Abdul, with Hollywood veteran Judi Dench as Queen Victoria.

As for Anupam’s “The Big Sick”, it is nominated for the Writing (Original Screenplay) honour for Pakistan-origin Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon.

“The Shape of Water” – a love story between a mute woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore and a misunderstood aquatic monster — is in the race to win an award in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay categories along with Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer and Richard Jenkins in contention for the statuette in Lead Actress, Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor categories respectively.

It is also contending in technical categories like Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing, Music – Original Score, Production Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Writing (Original Screenplay).

“The Shape of Water” is the tenth film in Oscar history to earn thirteen nominations, with the current record of fourteen nominations held by “All about Eve” (1950), “Titanic” (1997) and “La La Land” (2016).

Actress-comedian Tiffany Haddish and actor-director Andy Serkis, joined by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President John Bailey, announced the nominations on Tuesday via a global live stream. Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra was one of the celebrities who participated in pre-taped category introductions.

“Newton”, India’s official entry for the Foreign Language Film category, had failed to make the cut to the shortlist early in the selection process. Films from Sweden, Chile, Lebanon, Russia and Hungary have made it to the final list.

This year, “Dunkirk” has eight nominations, followed by “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri” with seven nods, “Darkest Hour” and “Phantom Thread” tying at six, “Blade Runner 2049” and “Lady Bird” registering five nods, and “Call Me by Your Name”, “Get Out”, “Mudbound” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” contending in four categories.

“Baby Driver” and “I, Tonya” stand a chance to win in three categories, while films with nominations each include “Beauty and the Beast”, “Coco” and “The Post” apart from “Victoria & Abdul”.

Veteran actress Meryl Streep has registered her 21st nomination with a spot in the Actress in a Leading Role for “The Post”, distributed in India by Anil Ambani-backed Reliance Entertainment. She will be competing with Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”), Saoirse Ronan (“Lady Bird”) and Hawkins.

In the Actor in a Leading Role, the nominees are: Timothee Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name”), Daniel Day-Lewis (“Phantom Thread”), Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”), Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) and Denzel Washington (“Roman J. Israel, Esq.”).

At 88 years old, Christopher Plummer has become the oldest acting nominee to date. He is nominated for the Actor in a Supporting Role honour for “All the Money in the World”, in which he replaced Kevin Spacey who was ousted over sexual misconduct claims.

Christopher Nolan has scored his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Director for his war film “Dunkirk”. Competing with him are; Jordan Peele for “Get Out”, Greta Gerwig for “Lady Bird”, Paul Thomas Anderson for “Phantom Thread” and Guillermo del Toro for “The Shape of Water”.

The 90th Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on March 4 at the Dolby Theatre here. It will be aired in India live on Star Movies and Star Movies Select on March 5.

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan has scored his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Director for his war drama “Dunkirk”.

Nolan picked up his first-ever Oscar nomination on Tuesday after three previous bids stalled with the Academy, reports variety.com.

While the Directors Guild of America had nominated Nolan for “Memento” (2000), “The Dark Knight” (2008) and “Inception” (2010) prior to this year’s recognition for his latest feat of virtuoso filmmaking, but he was never nominated.

To win his first Oscar as the Best Director, Nolan will be fighting it out with Jordan Peele for “Get Out”, Greta Gerwig for “Lady Bird”, Paul Thomas Anderson for “Phantom Thread” and Guillermo del Toro for “The Shape of Water”.

In addition to the director recognition this year, Nolan was also nominated alongside wife and co-producer Emma Thomas in the Best Picture category for his gripping World War II drama.

“Dunkirk” received eight Oscar nominations in total, the majority of them throughout the Academy’s various craft categories. The 90th annual Oscars will be held here on March 4. It will air in India on Star Movies and Star Movies Select on March 5.

Three days ago, Ranveer Singh sent social media into a frenzy by sharing an image of his lean avatar from his upcoming drama, Gully Boy. That his dramatic transformation follows his stint as Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, which saw him pack on several pounds of muscle, makes it noteworthy.

While the actor was training under the guidance of celebrity coach Mustafa Ahmed while shooting for Padmaavat, he embarked on his weight-loss journey without assistance. A source says Singh shed 12 kilos over three months to acquire the chiseled look of a street rapper. Shedding light on his regimen, the source says that the actor put down his weights and took to the streets to burn calories. “While Ranveer had taken to heavy weight-lifting during Padmaavat, he returned to his usual routine comprising two hours of intense cardio sessions. He would kick-off the day with an hour-long bout, and follow it with another in the evening.”

The cardio sessions involved running and swimming, the latter justifying his multiple spotting at Bandra’s Otters Club recently. Even though the actor kept an arm’s length from the bigger weights, he performed moderate weight-training exercises, coupling them with functional movements like push-ups, burpees and squats, to maintain his physical fitness.

Like his fitness routine, Singh took charge of his diet too. He kept a watchful eye on the consumption of sugar and salt, continuously attempting to minimise the latter. “His meals were cooked in less salt. He also eliminated sugar from his diet. Given that he has a sweet tooth, and harbours a love for chocolate, this was tough.” Singh, we hear, reduced his carbohydrate intake, which helped him shave off the kilos faster. “He had a high-protein diet, comprising egg whites. At breakfast, he accompanied that with fruits. For lunch and dinner, he consumed meat or fish with a bowl of stir fried vegetables.”

Video streaming sites – dating to as long ago as 2013 – are peppered with clips of the singer-actor pulling off as many as 50 to 100 push-ups in the midst of gigs. In an interview to mid-day, the actor attributes his uncanny quirk to the desire of deriving an adrenaline rush for his act.

“[Workouts] give me the energy I require [to perform on] stage,” Akhtar says. Having abided by this ritual before performing for MTV Unplugged recently, Akhtar says, “Working out is a ritual I follow before performing on stage. The regimen keeps the mind and body refreshed.” At the musical event, Akhtar belted out hits like Atrangi Yaari, Hawan Kund and Galla Goodiyan. But it is the tribute that he paid to the late Kishore Kumar with Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaaghi Si that made his act “special”. “He has impacted me as an artiste,” says Akhtar.

Apparently Hina has taken a fatter cheque back home. According to SpotboyE.com, Hina has earned a whopping amount of Rs 1.75 Cr. While Shilpa earned Rs 1.29 Cr, which means that Hina is richer by 46 lakhs.

If reports are to be believed, then as per Hina’s contract, she has received Rs 1.25 Cr for her stay in the house for 10 weeks, and she got Rs 50 lakh for the last 5 weeks in the house. On the other hand, Shilpa received Rs 6 lakh per week for 10 weeks and then Rs 5 lakh per week later.

Phew, that’s a lot of moolah!

Being the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump is obviously bound to be quite inspirational, but he is influencing people in all the wrong ways.

Remember this iconic quote – “Although she does have a very nice figure. I’ve said that if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” I still can’t believe someone actually said that about their daughter. Actually, that’s not the only instance of POTUS talking like that about his own daughter. One time he said this – “Yeah, she’s really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren’t happily married and, ya know, her father….”

And, then we have the worst one also – “Is it wrong to be more sexually attracted to your own daughter than your wife?”

But, this is not about Trump, as he may have influenced someone else as well, and that someone else is none other than Sylvester Stallone. He has been acting for almost fifty years and is still giving a lot of box office hits, and with a career that long, he has a lot to be proud about.

But yesterday, he seemed to be pleased about something a little odd. Without adding any comment, he shared an article about his ‘bombshell’ daughters.

Yeah, it just seems a little weird for him to share such an article about his daughters but we can give him the benefit of the doubt. We have to remember that he’s 71 and that’s why maybe he’s just an old guy trying to figure out how Twitter works.

While it was probably just a mistake, his tweet has caused a lot of confusion, and people are just a little bit weirded out.
