Anushka Weds Virat
Anushka Sharma married (finally) her boyfriend Virat Kohli in Italy on Monday and the Internet has exhaled. Twitter is flooded with wishes for the newlyweds, with several messages being posted by the 29-year-old actress’ friends and colleagues from Bollywood. Anushka and Virat had a mehendi ceremony followed by the wedding at a resort in Tuscany, after which they posted this on their Twitter accounts: “Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.”
The tweets were greeted by a deluge of responses from stars like Sridevi, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor and Anushka’s Dil Dhadakne Do co-star Anil Kapoor. Some, like Riteish Deshmukh, Richa Chadha and Neha Dhupia, sneaked in cricketing references.
#VirushkaWedding shows no signs of dropping from its position at the top of the Twitter trends list.
The wedding, held amid tight security, was strictly family and close friends. Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee created the wedding outfits for both bride and groom as well as Anushka’s mehendi ensemble. Two receptions will follow – the first in Virat’s home town of Delhi, the second in Mumbai. The couple will also live in Mumbai, in an apartment in Worli. After the second reception on December 26, Ansuhka and Virat will fly to South Africa to ring in 2018. Virat stays on to play a series there, Anushka returns to resume work on her film with Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Anushka Sharma’s spokesperson denied wedding rumours all of last week, right up until the actress flew out of Mumbai with her parents and brother. A statement released on behalf of the actress after the wedding read: “We are extremely grateful to the media for their support and understanding in making this special occasion a memorable one and thank them for their continued love and support.”
Anushka and Virat met while filming a commercial in 2013. They confirmed a romance later, saying that they were ‘two young people in a relationship.’ Anushka and Virat were rumoured to have broken-up last year after the cricketer posted a photo of himself captioned ‘Heartbroken.’ They later reconciled and were pictured at parties and events together. Pictures of the couple at a temple in Uttarakhand went viral in November 2016, prompting speculation of an engagement. The priest they were photographed reportedly accompanied the actress’ entourage to Italy.
Anushka Sharma was last seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Jab Harry Met Sejal. Apart from the project with SRK and Katrina, her upcoming films include Sui Dhaaga and Pari.
Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma got married in beautiful Tuscany, Italy on Monday morning at the grand village resort of Borgo Finocchieto. The wedding which was a heavily guarded affair and attended by close friends and family, finally ended the rumour mill that had gone into a tizzy as soon as Kohli’s desire to get time off in December was made clear to the BCCI and the Indian selectors. It picked up further wind, when Anushka, her family and a priest were spotted at the Mumbai Airport headed for Italy. The will they, won’t they came to an end and unravelled a new chain of events in fans yarning for inside pictures and videos from the wedding functions.

There have already been a few inside videos and inside pictures from the marriage functions – the mehendi, ring ceremony and the wedding – but now another has emerged which is breaking the internet and why should it not? It features the Bollywood actress walking up to the stage for the pheras and then is warmly taken by the hand by Kohli to help her rise. The duo then share an adorable eye-to-eye contact followed by hush-hush conversation while the entry music plays in the background.

Director Akshat Verma says Saif Ali Khan was the first choice for his directorial venture ‘Kaalakaandi’ but at one point the makers did approach Fawad Khan to play the same part
Director Akshat Verma says Saif Ali Khan was the first choice for his directorial venture “Kaalakaandi” but at one point the makers did approach Fawad Khan to play the same part. Akshat has revealed that when the film was with UTV, they were in talks with Fawad to play the role, which is now being played by Saif. “Fawad was supposed to be one of the actors we talked to when the project was with UTV. It was around 2013… He was going to play the role Saif plays. But ultimately everything happens for a reason and for the best. No one could have done the role better than Saif,” Akshat says in an interview with PTI.
“Kaalakaandi” chronicles the story of six characters from different worlds of Mumbai in a span of 12 hours and how the lives of complete strangers intersect. Interestingly, Akshat says his “instinct for Saif was right” as he had written the film initially keeping him in mind. “When I first messaged Saif, I didn’t get a reply from him. When I finally met him, it was almost two years to the date I had texted him, and I still have the message saved. “This time, he had read the script because Ashi (Dua, one of the producers) had sent it to him. He said ‘ok we are on’ in five minutes. So the time period was, on one hand two years and on the other, just five minutes to get Saif,” he adds. Akshat dived into the world of “Kaalakaandi” right after his big hit “Delhi Belly”, which he had written. He took nearly a year to write the script of “Kaalakaandi” but the project went through “a mad roller coaster ride.” “It is common knowledge that the film was earlier with UTV, we were about to shoot but four days before that the project was shut down. After that things fell apart, we had to put it together again.
Everything takes time,” he said. Both “Delhi Belly” and “Kaalakaandi” fall in the genre of dark comedy, which is rarely explored in Bollywood. When asked is it because his scripts are so unconventional that people don’t really understand his language and vision, Akshat says, “Often people say they enjoy the script, love it, but (it is) not enough to make it as a film. It is like breaking up with someone by saying ‘I love you but not enough to marry you.'” But can the waiting period be frustrating and the director says, “it is the most disappointing part”. “You feel that the time seems to move in six months chunk.
Suddenly you look up and the year has gone by, it seems you haven’t done anything. You have been trying, waiting, they (makers) read your script, get back to you, six months have gone by and then they say ‘no,'” he said. In this scenario–where a project is being delayed and people are not willing to back your vision– Akshat says the only way to keep himself motivated was by being “stubborn.” Produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Ashi Dua Sara of Flying Unicorn, the film stars Saif along with Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Isha Talwar, Shenaz Treasury, Shivam Patil, Amyra Dastur and Neil Bhoopalam. “Kaalakaandi” is scheduled to release on January 12 next year.

Deepika Padukone attended an awards gala in Andheri on Sunday, but skipped the red carpet. The actor has been making backdoor entries at events after threats post the Padmavati controversy. The actor wore a golden Monisha Jaising creation, but looked far from glowing. Dippy seems to have lost weight and appeared tired. Perhaps she was under the weather or are the difficult times taking a toll on her?

This post of the Dharma head honcho seems to caught the pulse of the people in India and abroad, some of whom are hysterical over the #Virushka wedding.

Reaching home after braving evening traffic, made worse by a sudden drizzle in Delhi, I slumped on my sofa thinking of what to get for dinner. As I absent-mindedly scrolled through my Twitter feed, my jaw dropped. Virat and Anushka had gotten married. In Tuscany, Italy – the most romantic place in the most romantic country. It took a minute to sink in as I forgot about my plebeian dinner concerns. After all the speculations and the public romance, chances were ripe. But that it would actually happen and so soon was something none of us would have imagined.
At 29, India’s cricketing sensation and one of Bollywood’s most successful leading ladies got hitched in the most picture perfect setting. Resplendent in their bright floral wedding attires, Virat and Anushka cut a picture straight from our best Bollywood fantasies. While we have grown up on larger-than-life Bollywood romances, we have also grown up to believe they are almost never true. In a world where innocent love rarely culminates in a lifelong association/marriage, where relationships start off as rumours in the media, this was a breath of fresh air. The innocent charm of love hadn’t been lost yet.

As I hungrily scrolled for more pictures of the wedding, I realised I did not have to work too hard to find them – it was all over everyone’s feeds. Media publications competed to break the story, Twitter pundits raced ahead of each other to crack the best wisecracks using the perfect hashtags and fans devoured even the tiniest of details, going on a retweeting spree. In our dull middle class existence, this was the highlight of the day. But what was it about Virat and Anushka that has caught the fancy of the masses? Even the internet troll, who thrives by pulling down the most innocuous of things on social media, was gushing over how cute they looked.
The absence of negativity has been a refreshing change in internet behaviour and makes Virushka an absolute public favourite. For a public that is so vile and unforgiving towards celebrities, this is a rarity. Both Virat and Anushka come from regular middle class families, with no association to the industry they are in. They weren’t born with the silver spoon but they are eating in silver plates now – both of them are self-made individuals with humble backgrounds. And that’s exactly the apsirational dream the middle class looks at as a tangible reality.

Virat was the quintessential bad boy of Indian cricket. With the right kind of aggression on the field, he powered India through many wins and gave us the kind of confidence we never had under the older more gentlemanly team. How the beloved bad boy became the dream lover madly in love with the woman of his dreams is the kind of story we only see on the silver screen or in romance novels. They found love and they didn’t let the high demands of the glamour and success world ruin it for them. It was a match.

When Anushka was blamed for Virat’s poor performance on the field and received backlash from fans, the bad boy of Indian cricket came out defending his ladylove. Holding hands at airports, he steered her through the tough time. In an interview with The Mint, he spoke about how Anushka had taught him how to be a compassionate person. “I have always been fond of animals, but I never had the compassion and love that I feel now, and that’s mainly because of Anushka. She has changed the way I see these things, and the way I think about animals; now I’ve genuinely started feeling this deep love for them,” he said.
He did not hesitate to admit how she had sensitised him to women’s issues and feminism as well. “People are very chauvinistic in this country,” he says. “I certainly wasn’t aware of that growing up, to be honest. But I have started to see myself as a feminist,” he had said.

Virat comes from a regular middle class family in Delhi and rose to the status of a cricket star solely on the basis of hard work and talent. Anushka’s story is not very different. An army kid raised in the city of Bangalore, she started with modelling and later moved on to films, eventually becoming one of the most highly paid actresses of Bollywood. When the two of them came together, it was the perfect middle class dream. It’s the possibility of dreams coming true in the best way possible that has overwhelmed us as a nation. We thrive on the hope of life getting better, either ours or someone else’s.
In their fairytale wedding, the middle class has lived a fantasy by proxy.
After days of intense speculation and denials, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma tied the knot on Monday in a private ceremony, reportedly at a countryside resort named Borgo Finocchieto — one of the most expensive holiday properties in the world, where Barack and Michelle Obama had stayed earlier this year.
“Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share this wonderful news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans and wellwishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey,” the couple, both aged 29, said in a joint statement.
The Virat-Anushka wedding was attended only by close family and a few friends. Both bride and groom wore wedding ensembles designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
‘Virushka’, as the couple is fondly called, will host a reception in New Delhi for their relatives on December 21, followed by a reception in Mumbai for industry friends and cricketers on December 26. They will then travel to South Africa, where the Indian cricket team will be playing a keenly anticipated series.
Anushka will spend New Year’s Eve with Virat before returning in the first week of January to shoot for a film with Shah Rukh Khan. The newly weds will shift to their new residence in Worli, Mumbai in December once they return from Delhi.
Rumours of an impending wedding had started doing the rounds after Virat opted out of the ongoing ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka. They intensified after the couple, along with their respective families, took off for Italy early on Friday. While Anushka flew out from Mumbai, Virat left from Delhi. Anushka’s family priest, Maharaj Anant Baba, who lives in Haridwar, also accompanied the family to Europe.
Sparks first flew between the couple during the shooting of a shampoo commercial in 2013, and they had a very public falling out and reunion as their high-profile romance played out in the spotlight. Understandably, they chose to keep the wedding a quiet affair.
The dates are said to have been finalised when the couple were in Sri Lanka, in August this year, but the news was kept under wraps.
In an interview three years ago, Anushka had said that if she were to have a destination wedding, it would be in ‘somewhere like a vineyard, perhaps’. The eventual venue — a restored 13th century estate, said to charge some $150,000 (about Rs 1 crore) per week — is about an hour’s drive from the city of Tuscany in south Italy and sits right next to Italy’s wine capital, Montalcino.
Virat tops the ICC rankings for batsmen in ODIs and T20Is and is second only to Steve Smith in Test rankings at present. He has been on a record-smashing spee in 2017 and recently became the first batsman to score six double Test centuries as a captain.
Anushka made her debut with ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ in 2008 (Coincidentally Virat made his debut in the Indian cricket team in the same year after leading the under-19 team to victory in the junior World Cup). Anushka’s film credits include blockbusters ‘Sultan’ and ‘PK’.
Bollywood and cricket stars were quick to congratulate the couple.
“Many congratulations to @AnushkaSharma and @imVkohli on their wedding. God bless and welcome to the club!” tweeted actor Abhishek Bachchan who is married to actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi also congratulated the couple, saying: “Congratulations @imVkohli @AnushkaSharma on your wedding. May God bless you two and give you happiness and a rewarding married life.”
“Heartiest congratulations to this lovely pair. Wishing the couple a very happy married life,” read the message on cricket board BCCI’s Twitter handle.
Cricketer Harbhajan Singh also took to the social networking site to congratulate the newly weds. “Jug jug jeeve eh sohni Jodi ..@imVkohli @AnushkaSharma rab hamesha khush rakhe (May this beautiful couple enjoy a long life. May God keep them happy always),” Harbhajan’s tweet read.
Pacer Umesh Yadav also tweeted: “Happy married life both of you @imVkohli and @AnushkaSharma have a wonderful life ahead may God bless u both with lots of happiness.”
‘God of cricket’ Sachin Tendulker tweeted, “Congratulations and best wishes to the just married @imVkohli and @AnushkaSharma. You both look wonderful together. #Virushka”.
Australian Pacer Brett Lee tweeted, “A big congratulations to @imVkohli & @AnushkaSharma on your special day. May it be a lifetime of laughter and happiness together.”
Badminton Player and Arjuna Award winner Kidambi Srikanth tweeted “Hi Virat,Happy farewell from bachelors group? . Congratulations and wish you a very happy married life? @imVkohli and @AnushkaSharma”
Pacer Ashoke Dinda tweeted, “Congratulation @imVkohli Wish you all the happiness , love and luck for the beautiful journey ahead”
