As soon as Jagga Jassos hits the marquee, Ranbir Kapoor will take off for New York for another schedule of Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt. RK will be filming for some intense scenes in the Big Apple.

Dutt’s darkest phase of life was when he grappled with drug addiction and was in rehab in NY for two years to overcome the dependency. Hirani had done a location hunt in the US in November last year.

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has started undergoing look tests for her upcoming film ‘Raazi’, which is a Meghna Gulzar directorial. Alia Bhatt posted an image on Instagram with hairstylist Priyanka Borkar and make-up artist Puneet B Saini.

Alia Bhatt captioned the image, “Early mornings with these cuties! !!! Look test for Raazi! Too much excitement! @hairbypriyanka @puneetbsaini.”

After playing a Bihari migrant in ‘Udta Punjab’, Alia Bhatt is set to play the role of a Kashmiri girl in Meghana Gulzar’s espionage thriller ‘Raazi’. The film will see Alia’s character married to a Pakistani army officer, which will be played by ‘Masaan’ actor Vicky Kaushal.

‘Raazi’ is produced by Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions and is based on Harinder Sikka’s novel, ‘Calling Sehmat’, a thrilling saga of a spy who gave all of herself and that of her family in the service of her nation, so that all may live in peace.

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar revealed she plans to shoot ‘Raazi’ in Kashmir, where she grew up. Meghna, who has earlier made films like “Filhaal…” and “Talvar”, is the daughter of celebrated writer Gulzar and veteran actress Raakhee.

‘Raazi’ marks her first collaboration with Meghna and Alia Bhatt is all praise for the director. “She has such clarity on how she wants things; her eye for detail is amazing. She is running the show single handedly and is doing a great job. Her passion is infectious.”

Alia Bhatt’s previous outings, including ‘Highway’ (2014) and ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016), have helped her showcase her acting prowess instead of merely putting on a glamorous front. Her last screen outing was ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’, which also starred her frequent co-star Varun Dhawan.

Yes, veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh will be teaming up with India’s finest music composer Mithoon for a music single dedicated to celebrating the contribution of real life heroes who have strived towards the welfare of the nation. This is the very first time the sauvé cricketer who hails from Punjab will be taking to the mic and is already taking lessons in the studio.

Speaking about the recent announcement of the event, Mithoon said in a statement, “It’s actually a thought that Harbhajan shared with me. We have been close friends for a while now and he has always expressed his interest in music. He wanted to do something to celebrate our national heritage and culture. We were always contemplating on working together and were in talks of collaborating on a single since over a year now. This concept cropped up on his birthday and while there many ideas exchanged this particular idea appealed to us the most. I always believe music should address a higher purpose and collaborations of ideas should bring meaning to the fore.”

Freddy Daruwala: Rasna is a common Gujarati name

Freddy Daruwala, who was recently seen in a cameo in John Abraham’s ‘Force 2’, has found himself in legal tussle after being sued by soft drink brand Rasna for trademark infringement. The brand, which has also sued the producers of the Gujarati film, Rasna No Dabbo, claims the title infringes upon its trade name and defames the brand.

Responding to the claims, Daruwala tells mid-day, “Rasna is a common Gujarati name and that’s probably where the company also got its name from. Our film is a sweet love story about a girl named Rasna and doesn’t tarnish their brand in any manner. In fact, the film is not even about them. This is a pointless and unfortunate tussle.”

In a notice served to the producers yesterday (a copy of which is with mid-day), the complainants claim that “the mark has become a household name and a common consumer would immediately associate any similar mark with [the company’s]” and the situation could “result into irreparable and irretrievable injury not only to the Plaintiffs but to all the consumers who are so misled.”

A commercial Ahmedabad court had reportedly restrained the filmmakers from releasing the film until July 17, when the next hearing is scheduled.
Despite the development, Daruwala asserts that the team doesn’t intend to change the title.

“We’ve received the notice today [yesterday]. We will first talk to them, but, if all fails, the case will have to be fought fair and square. We had registered the name with the Producers’ Association (IMPPA) about two years ago. If any concern was to be raised, they would have pointed it out to us then.” Rasna has reportedly sued all the production firms associated with the film.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif tointeract with city’s school kids on July 9

katrina_ranbir An eventful Sunday has been planned for the city’s school kids on July 9, when Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif will interact with them as part of promotions for their upcoming film, Jagga Jasoos.

The actors have blocked their dates to interact with kids of grades five to 12 from various schools of Mumbai at the event, which will be held at St. Andrew’s auditorium in Bandra. A few parents will also accompany them.

The duo will conduct a master class on the song Galti Se Mistake, which has caught the fancy of school-going children, given that they can relate to it.

The cast of Jagga Jasoos will conduct a quiz on the film, and will also take questions from their young audience members.

Ranbir and Katrina are extremely excited about interacting with the children. The former plays a school-going kid in the adventure drama. The Anurag Basu-directed project will hit screens on July 14.

Deepika-Padukone- If sources are to be believed then Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is getting a whopping Rs 12 crore as remuneration for her upcoming film ‘Padmavati’. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali the film also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Deepika Padukone has apparently devoted an entire year for the period drama ‘Padmavati’, in which she is essaying the titular Rajput queen. Sources say this could possibly justify her astrnomical salary demand.

Deepika Padukone has ranked 10 in world’s 10 highest paid actresses’ list alongside Hollywood heavyweights Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts and ‘Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston. Deepika became the only Indian actress and the sole newcomer in Forbes’ 2016 list of the ‘World’s Highest-Paid Actresses.’

According to India Today, when Deepika was recently approached for a film featuring one of the Khans, she quoted the same sum as ‘Padmavati’ as her asking price. The producers were taken aback at this, since it’s a two-heroine film and the other actress, would also have a list of her own demands. But, sources say Deepika remaind adamant.

Deepika Padukone has been a part of recent box-offices successes like ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Piku’.

Deepika Padukone is also set to feature in the fourth outing of the ‘xXx’ franchise. Deepika made her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel in ‘xXx: Return Of Xander Cage’ that released in January this year.

‘Padmavati’ starring Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone is set to release on November 17.

Coincidence that I’m working with three Khans: Katrina Kaif

kat-inset-khans Katrina Kaif may be busy promoting her upcoming film with former lover Ranbir Kapoor, but it’s the opportunity to work with the top three Khans of Bollywood that has her excited and feeling fortunate.

“It’s a coincidence that I am working with all of them around the same time,” says the actor, adding, “I am shooting for ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. Salman is an amazing co-star to work with. I am comfortable around him. Recently, I wrapped up the shoot for ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ with Aamir in Malta. His approach is meticulous, he is dedicated to his craft. And next is a film with Shah Rukh.”

Putting her failed relationship with Kapoor behind Katrina Kaif, she wishes to now focus on her work. “Over the last year-and-a-half, people have spoken more about my personal life. But I wish that the focus now shifts to my work. It hasn’t been easy to get back to the grind, but I am enjoying it,” she says.

Kaif’s last two Bollywood outings, ‘Fitoor’ and ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (both 2016), didn’t fare well at the box office, and she doesn’t deny that failure bothers her. “When a film doesn’t do well after all the hard work [you put in], there is heartbreak. It’s not a good feeling. I’d love to experience box office acceptance.”

Last evening, Govinda vented his ire towards the ‘Jagga Jasoos’ makers, Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor, for cutting him out from the fantasy drama. Recently, Basu reportedly stated that Govinda is not part of the cast. In a series of tweets, Chi Chi alleged that he was taken for a ride.

He wrote, “I gave full respect to the Kapoor family and did the film because he is my senior’s son. I was told I will get the script. I was told they will narrate the film in South Africa. I didn’t charge a signing amount; made no contracts. I was unwell and on drips, but still travelled to South Africa for the shoot. There were various negative stories and articles against me and that’s how the film was remembered for three years. I did my job as an actor and if the director is not happy it’s completely his call (sic).”

Govinda, who played Ranbir’s father, is certainly in no mood to let bygones be bygones.
