Saawariya’ pair Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are back and how! The duo made their Bollywood debut together in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ and spread winsome charm with their chemistry. Unfortunately, the two actors had not teamed up for any film post that. However, Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ will once again bring Sonam and Ranbir together on screen. Here’s a glimpse of their characters from the film.

Sonam Kapoor had her dream wedding right with beau Anand Ahuja in Mumbai amidst a two-day celebration. After celebrating their solemnisation in a two-day wedding celebration on 7th and 8th May, the actress headed to Cannes Film Festival just after 4 days of her marriage.

Now, as per recent buzz in the Tinsel Town, the newlyweds Sonam and Anand have purchased a property in London and the couple was reported to move there soon after their wedding. Contrary to this, other reports suggest that they will divide their time between Mumbai, Delhi and London.

Reacting to all these reports, Sonam Kapoor revealed to a leading daily, “I have been shuttling between Mumbai and London for the past two years. It seems no one noticed this so far. My life isn’t going to change much; what has been happening for the past two years will continue”.

In the same interaction, Sonam also emphasised how her professional life will not take a back seat after marriage. She expressed, “Life remains the same after tying the knot. Women need to stop thinking that marriage is life-altering. If it doesn’t change a man’s life, why should it change anything for a woman?”.

Right after her marriage, Sonam had also changed her social media handles to Sonam K Ahuja which was questioned by many. Responding to these questions, she stated, “Just changing my name doesn’t make me any less of a feminist. Kapoor is also my father’s name, a man’s name. I wanted to keep both my identities. It was my personal choice. Somebody judging me for my choice is like challenging what feminism stands for”.

Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja tied the knot in a traditional Sikh ceremony. A week after the wedding, the couple find themselves mired in controversy for hurting religious sentiments. Reportedly, some former office-bearers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have accused SGPC staffers of not removing Anand’s kalgi (brooch) from his turban during the ceremony in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib, which is a violation of Sikh tenets. They have brought it to the notice of the Akal Takht and are demanding action against the SGPC members who officiated during the Anand Karaj ceremony.

While Sonam Kapoor is already back to work, the actress is at Cannes with husband Anand Ahuja, ready to unleash her fashion game at the style mecca. Sonam Kapoor and husband were spotted at the airport en route to Cannes. Sonam walked the 71st Cannes Film Festival red carpet on Monday and Tuesday to fulfil her commitment as a L’oreal Paris brand ambassador. Sonam Kapoor will be next seen in Veere Di Wedding and Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanjay Dutt biopic, Sanju.

Festivities continue for Sonam Kapoor Ahuja. Barely a week after her wedding, the actor travelled to France to be part of the Cannes Film Festival. She landed at the French Riviera yesterday, and attended a gala dinner hosted by the NGO, Positive Planet Foundation.

A source close to her tells mid-day, “Sonam was the guest of honour at the gala, which included a contemporary art auction orchestrated by renowned Swiss art collector Simon De Pury. The proceeds of the auction will go towards the NGO’s programmes for women’s empowerment in Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and priority neighbourhoods in France.”

Since this year marks the NGO’s 20th anniversary, Kapoor donated an outfit from her personal collection and had dinner with the highest bidder. “Since the NGO has done inspiring work for the last 20 years, I wanted to support and encourage them to undertake more noble endeavours [to alleviate female poverty],” says the actor, who returns to India on May 17.

When contacted, Jacques Attali, president, Positive Planet Foundation, says that they decided to have Kapoor as the guest of honour because of the impactful roles she’s done in films. “She has managed to bring colourful and unforgettable characters to life. She is an inspiring, engaging and positive personality. We were honoured to have her.”

Kareena Kapoor says, “I am very lucky to be very close to my sister Karisma Kapoor, who has always been there for me. She is somebody whom I consider as my second mother, someone I could share everything with.”

Anil Kapoor had attended their nuptials and now they were at his daughter’s wedding at the same venue. Chunky and Bhavana have a daughter Ananya Panday, who is set to make her Bollywood debut this year alongside Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria with Student Of The Year 2, which is being produced by Karan Johar.

While Chunky Panday‘s daughter Ananya is set to make her Bollywood foray, the actor says nephew Ahaan will also join the bandwagon, but, Johar’s Dharma Productions will not mark his launch. Chunky was addressing reporters at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards voting weekend. Responding to questions on whether Ahaan would make his debut soon, he said, “My nephew Ahaan is just like my son. He is famous on Instagram and Twitter. A [film] announcement [involving him] will also be made soon. He is not debuting with Dharma. The other banner could be Yash Raj [Films]. I can’t talk about it, but good news is on its way.”

Be it Facebook, Twitter or Instagram; the internet was flooded with pictures and videos of Sonam Kapoor’s mehendi, Sonam and Anand’s wedding and their larger than life reception in Mumbai.

Thanks to the hyperactive social media, we all knew the course of events within seconds of it happening and the craziness that overpowered the dance floor as the night shined brighter with each minute.

But according to me, the winner of this “Who can steal the limelight better” is the cakes that the entire family happily munched on. Just look at the cake that perfectly sums up every Indian married couple in the world. Apparently, Anand is a basketball fan, so this cake makes all the sense in the world.

Seriously, such cakes are to live and die for. Every time, the cakes were in frame, I forgot about Sonam, Anand and the entire B-town co. Who could have thought that there will be a day when I will think about eating a basketball net? I guess Sonam’s patissier did. And that ‘Gende ka phool’ was all the sanskaar we need. You just can’t look at the cake and not sing “Sasuraal Genda Phool”. You just can’t!

Maybe, the cakes overcompensated for all the glitz and glamour that ‘Sonam Ki Shadi’ was. Shah Rukh, Salman or Ranveer have got nothing on these cakes, which will make every foodie roll their eyes in amazement.

Seriously, I felt like Rancho from ‘3 Idiots’ who couldn’t focus on anything else but food. Here I could only look at the giant fancy cakes. Honestly, I was so smitten by the cake that I forgot everything else. This is me at every wedding.

Makeup guru Namrata Soni, who styled Bollywood’s resident fashionista on her big day, decodes her cracker look

Given the fashionista tag that has been attached to Sonam Kapoor, all eyes were on what the bride would wear on her big day. The actor looked resplendent in a red Anuradha Vakil creation as she married beau Anand Ahuja yesterday.

Speaking to mid-day after the Anand Karaj ceremony last morning, makeup artist Namrata Soni gushed, “Isn’t she the most beautiful bride ever? We went with little eyeliner, keeping the focus on eyes and soft red-tinted lips. The antique headpiece was her idea. We combined it with a basic bun, decorated with mogras.”

Sonam Kapoor was certain she would wear red on her wedding day. A source from Vakil’s team revealed, “Sonam was in discussion with Anuradha for many months. The golden lotus motifs were also a collaborative decision. We ran a few designs by her and she picked this one.”

Guests — including Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan with husband Saif Ali Khan and son Taimur, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez — started thronging the Bandra venue by 11.30 am as the couple proceeded with the nuptials.

A guest at the ceremony said, “The traditional Sikh wedding comprised four laava pheras around the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs. The wedding vows were followed by lunch. The highlight of the lunch was when Ranveer and Arjun sang Masakalli [Delhi 6] on stage. Anand and Sonam couldn’t stop laughing at their antics.” Within minutes of her wedding, she changed her user name on social media accounts to Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja.

A few hours later, it was time for the grand reception. The bride dazzled in a grey Anamika Khanna lehenga while Anand Ahuja, unsurprisingly, teamed his sherwani with a pair of sneakers. Karan Johar, who had an act lined up, came with mother Hiroo Johar. Kangana Ranaut, Rani Mukerji, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff were present as well.

Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s wedding reception saw the who’s who of Bollywood and other eminent members of Mumbai’s elite in attendance. Bride Sonam looked gorgeous in a olive and white coloured lehenga, while the groom Anand was dressed in a black bandhgala. The Veere Di Wedding actress’ father, actor Anil Kapoor looked dapper in a black suit as he greeted the media. The dress code was ethnic and western attire.

Sonam and her Delhi-based businessman beau Anand tied the knot on Tuesday morning at the Bandra residence of the Veere Di Wedding actress’ aunt, which was graced by family and friends. The wedding reception was held at The Leela Mumbai in Andheri East, which is owned by the family of Sonam’s close friend Samyukta Nair.

Sonam’s brother Harshvardhan Kapoor, uncle Sanjay Kapoor with wife Maheep and daughter Shanaya, son Jahaan, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jackie Shroff, wife Ayesha Shroff, Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray with wife Rashmi, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sanju director Rajkumar Hirani and many others were on the guest list.

Pre-wedding celebrations had begun from Sunday, May 6, with a mehendi, which was followed by a sangeet ceremony the next day. Sonam, after debuting in Bollywood with Saawariya in 2007, has featured in movies like Delhi-6, Aisha, Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Khoobsurat, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Neerja and Pad Man. Her performance in Neerja won her a Special Mention at the National Film Awards. Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja have been dating since the last two years. She was introduced to Anand by friend, fashion designer, dancer and actress Pernia Qureshi.
