Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh calls himself “a big trash talker” and says that he has no control over it. Ranveer was speaking at an event on Friday here where Premier League announced him as their brand ambassador in India. The film star said there is much banter among Bollywood actors when it comes to watching football matches. “There is banter for sure. Banter is one of my favourite things. I am a big trash talker and sometimes even in formal sort of engagements, I am not able to control my verbal diarrhea.

“Abhishek Bachchan and Arjun Kapoor are both big Chelsea fans… so, we go back and forth bantering each other,” Ranveer said. Talking about his stint as the brand ambassador of the Premiere League in India, Ranveer said: “It is a matter of great honour and huge privilege. I genuinely believe this is the best league in the world.” He said he has been into the Premiere League for 17-18 years and with his appointment as its brand ambassador, he understands his role in growth and development of sports culture in India.

“I thoroughly enjoy it as I get to watch matches, to be part of these wonderful initiatives and to meet football legends… so it is a real treat and surreal. My Twitter bio says ‘Living The Dream’ and it feels exactly like that,” Ranveer said. Talking about his last released film “Padmaavat”, Ranveer said: “It’s doing something I had never imagined. It’s one of those rare films that sort of encompasses everything, be it critical acclaim, commercial success or love of the audience.”

He said that “Padmaavat” is one of those “rare movies” that can be remembered 10-15 years down the line and people will still appreciate it then because of its timeless quality. Ranveer has an interesting line-up of films which includes Zoya Akhtar’s “Gully Boy”, Rohit Shetty’s “Simmba” and Kabir Khan’s “83”.

After the trouble the makers went through to ensure Padmaavat reaches the audience, it is time for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone to pop the bubbly. With the magnum opus racing past the Rs 275-crore mark at the box office, mid-day has learnt that the makers have planned a grand bash for the weekend to celebrate the success. The team has zeroed in on February 24 since it also marks Bhansali’s 56th birthday. Given the director’s love for everything grand, the bash too will be just as special – it will be held aboard an ocean liner.

Says a source from the production team, “The team did not want a run-of-the-mill party at a five star. So they zeroed in on the Ark Deck Bar, the floating restaurant that has an open-air bar deck, a sit-down restaurant and private dining areas. It not only offers stunning view as it sails off the coast into the sea, but will also give the stars privacy from the paparazzi.” He adds that the do was initially scheduled for February 21 but was later pushed to Saturday to coincide with the auteur’s birthday.

While Bhansali, Singh and Padukone will celebrate their third consecutive success, Maharawal Ratan Singh aka Shahid Kapoor will be conspicuous by his absence. “Shahid won’t be present as he’s shooting in Tehri for Batti Gul Meter Chalu. A guest list of about 150 people has been drawn up that includes other Bollywood stars as well. The Ark is just a boat ride away from the Sea Link jetty. Everyone including Deepika and Ranveer will be ferried across.” The source adds that an extensive menu comprising European, Indian, Italian and pan-Asian cuisine will be laid out. When contacted, Bhansali’s team refused to comment.

After unveiling the first poster from Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s upcoming Zoya Akhtar film, ‘Gully Boy‘, both the actors are bonding big time over fitness. Ranveer and Alia both took to their social media accounts to share a picture of the duo working out together. However, what is unusual is their mane. While, Ranveer, who has lifted dumbbells, has sported long hair with a headband, Alia was seen flaunting her pig-tails while striking a perfect yoga pose.

Ranveer shared the picture and termed Alia Bhatt as his gym partner. “Partner Goals #mondaymotivation @aliaa08 (sic).”

On the other hand, ‘Raazi’ actress captioned the picture as, “Yaaaaaas.. Monday motivation (sic).”

‘Gully Boy’ stars Ranveer Singh playing the rapper. Farhan Akhtar is penning dialogues for sister Zoya’s Gully Boy. This will be Ranveer’s second film with Zoya after Dil Dhadkne Do. The film is inspired by Mumbai rappers Naezy and Divine, who belonged to a Kurla slum before they shot to fame.

Earlier, Ranveer had even uploaded a video of himself rapping the title track of the film. However, he later deleted the video from his Instagram account. Ranveer has been prepping with Divine to learn the nuances of rapping. Divine earlier told mid-day that while work on the film had commenced during the filming of Padmavati, it has garnered pace only now. “Ranveer genuinely loves hip-hop [music]. Currently, we are listening to music and jamming together,” he says.

The actor also says that “Gully Boy” is doing extremely well.

“It’s going extremely well. Things are just flowing along sparklingly and delightfully with Zoya (Akhtar) and Alia (Bhatt).

With ‘Padmaavat’ garnering tremendous acclaim from all quarters and being a roaring success at the box office, National award-winning makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh is ecstatic

National award-winning makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh was so perturbed by all the controversies and protests surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’, she chose not to say anything about her work for it till its release. “It broke my heart witnessing all the turmoil the film was going through. So I had decided, I will only speak about it when the labour of love met success,” remarks Preetisheel who designed the looks for all the top artists including Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.

“I cannot even imagine how Bhansali Sir would have coped up with the storm. My admiration for him has increased manifold,” she adds.

The best in her business, Preetisheel knows her job inside-out, but admits that her work for ‘Padmaavat’ was extremely challenging. “When working with Bhansali Sir, one has to be ready to always put in that extra bit as he has such a keen eye for aesthetics and detail. I read the script and understood the characters — how they dealt with people. I visualised the environment they would have grown up in, their likes and dislikes, their personality etcetera,” she explains.

“There’s a lot of study that went into getting under the skin of every character. Post this, I went through my look-references and finally came up with something that would equally excite the director and the actors. I was thrilled when Bhansali Sir finalised the looks.”

With the movie garnering tremendous acclaim from all quarters and being a roaring success at the box office, Preetisheel is “super happy and relieved that everyone’s efforts have finally borne fruit.”

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who has registered his biggest opening day collection with “Padmaavat”, says most people had told him that a hero shouldn’t play the anti-hero

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who has registered his biggest opening day collection with “Padmaavat”, says most people had told him that a hero shouldn’t play the anti-hero. “Padmaavat”, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, registered opening day collections of Rs 19 crore net, according to producers Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

For Ranveer, whose previous best opening day records were for “Gunday” (Rs 16.12 crore net) and “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (Rs 16 crore net), playing a merciless anti-hero Alauddin Khilji was a gamble. Ranveer said in a statement to IANS: “It is extremely rare and overwhelming to get this kind of love from the audience. I’m grateful and touched that everyone has been so appreciative of my performance.”

While the critics have lauded that Ranveer has given one of the best villains to Bollywood through his performance, the actor said: “I will be honest — when I was offered Padmaavat, most people were of the opinion that a hero should not play the anti-hero. “But I believed otherwise. I saw Khilji as a challenge for me, as an actor. And I wanted to take the challenge up. I went with the vision of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and my instinct of what I could achieve with Khilji. “I’m happy that the audiences are seeing and loving a character that both Sanjay sir and I have worked on tirelessly for over two years to bring to life.”

Thrilled about the response, he said: “I took a big risk with this character and it’s wonderful to see my gamble pay off. This kind of validation gives one the confidence to take bigger and bigger risks, challenge stereotypes and continue to push the envelope in the realm of mainstream Hindi cinema. “I feel very happy and very fulfilled today.” The movie, based on 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s “Padmavat”, also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor. It released on January 25 amid much brouhaha as the Shri Rajput Karni Sena protested over the alleged distortion of facts in the movie.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama “Padmaavat” got a steady start at the box office on Saturday, notwithstanding the widespread protests against the film with many theatres deciding against its screening

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama “Padmaavat” got a steady start at the box office on Saturday, notwithstanding the widespread protests against the film with many theatres deciding against its screening. The film based on 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s work ‘Padmavat’ got mired in controversy after various Rajput groups, including the Karni Sena, alleged that it distorted history, a claim denied by Bhansali.

Historians, however, are divided on whether Rajput queen Padmavati existed. The film had opened to select paid previews across the country on January 24 and collected Rs 5 crore, Viacom 18 sources said. On its opening day i.e. January 25, the film minted Rs 19 crore, they said.

The figures come at a time when the Multiplex Association of India, which represents around 75 per cent of multiplex owners in the country, had said that its members would not screen the film in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa. However, in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, not even the single-screen theatres dared to screen the film on the opening day.

In Goa, only a couple of single-screen theatres screened it amid police security. The film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh was released yesterday after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared it last month with a ‘U/A’ certificate and five modifications, including the title change from “Padmavati” to “Padmaavat”.

While parts of north India saw violence owing to the release of the film, police maintained a tight vigil outside theatres in Mumbai screening the film. Some policemen were also deployed inside the cinema halls to thwart any attempt to disrupt the screening, said an official. The city police had also tightened security at the residences of Bhansali and Padukone here.
