Eight months after Kaabil and a cameo in designer-turned-filmmaker Vikram Phadnis’s Marathi film, Hrudayantar, Hrithik Roshan is back in the thick of things. The actor has given his nod to two films — Super 30, the Vikas Bahl-directed biopic on math whiz Anand Kumar, and Siddharth Anand’s untitled next that sees him share screen space with Tiger Shroff for the first time. With these two projects on his plate, mid-day has learnt that Roshan has opted out of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s sports film citing date issues. The actor was in talks with Mehra for a film based on kabaddi, which was to be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. Says a source, “Rakeysh had bounced the concept off Hrithik and he was excited about it. He hadn’t signed on the dotted line as he wanted some changes in the script. The film is set in a prisoner-of-war camp and would see the actor portraying a kabaddi player.”

The source adds that the project was to roll by March next year. However, considering Roshan would be tied up with two projects till mid-2018, he felt it would be unfair to expect Mehra and Screwvala to wait for him. “Hrithik informed Ronnie that since he was busy with Siddharth and Vikas’s films, they should go ahead without him and sign on another star instead. He is professional enough not to make any filmmaker wait for him.”

However, Mehra’s spokesperson offers a different narrative. He insists that the director is yet to give Roshan a complete narration, only after which the actor will arrive at a decision. “Rakeysh is busy shooting Mere Pyare Prime Minister [his film on sanitation] and simultaneously, completing the script of the kabaddi film with his team of writers. Once the script is complete, he will give Hrithik a proper narration. The film wasn’t supposed to roll before May. So, a clash of dates is out of question.”

There was talk of R Madhavan being part of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s production ‘Fanney Khan’, starring Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The actor says he could not commit to the project due to date issues. But a birdie close to the project chirps to say Maddy asked for a whopper. As a result, the makers roped in Rajkummar Rao. Mehra and Bachchan were keen on Maddy though.

aishFanney Khan makers claim Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did not interfere in casting!

The makers of Fanney Khan, including director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and producer Arjun N. Kapoor have rubbished the rumours of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being upset over the casting of R. Madhavan opposite her.

Mehra, in a statement, said, “It is quite unfortunate that such false and baseless stories are created to grab attention. There is zero truth to that, we are all a team and ‘Fanney Khan’ is a dear project to the whole team.”

Kapoor of KriArj Entertainment added, “There are some stories doing the rounds about disagreement in casting for the film. We want to put the record straight and deny any such so called competition or discord amongst the makers.”

He said the cast, including Aishwarya and Anil Kapoor, are “deep into prep for their roles and as thorough professionals do not interfere in process of casting for other roles. It’s a great story and we are all very excited to showcase it to the world.”

Earlier, a news portal had reported that for the last couple of weeks the producers of the film have been locked in a struggle to find the right hero opposite Aishwarya.

It said that there was a choice between Madhavan and Rajkummar Rao with Aishwarya opting for Rao with Mehra insisting on Madhavan. “The discussions kept going on till the solution was finally cracked late on Wednesday afternoon – and the answer was Madhavan!”

Fanney Khan is the official remake of the Oscar nominated Dutch film ‘Everybody’s Famous’. It will be directed by Atul Manjrekar and will feature Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and R. Madhavan.

aish+_anilAnil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-starrer “Fanney Khan” will take up the cause of body shaming — which has become rampant across the world — in a huge way, says producer Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

“‘Fanney Khan’ is a beautiful father and daughter story. We have a new girl playing a 16-year-old daughter. It picks up the cause of a young girl in a big way. And you will see the film in many layers… It’s about her aspirations of getting popular.

“At the same time, it’s about the whole body shaming of a girl — most of the girls not just in India, but around the world go through… The male gaze thing or female gaze also… (which is) very scary,” Mehra told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

To be directed by Atul Manjrekar, the film has music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

A first look into the film — as shared by Anil — earlier this year, saw him dressed dressed in a blingy golden jacket singing his heart way as a spotlight shone on him.

According to latest reports, R. Madhavan will also be a part of the project, which is also backed by KriArj Entertainment and
