Sonam Kapoor heads to Dubai film fest, excited to present award with two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett

Taking her love for cinema a step ahead, Sonam Kapoor is all set to be a part of the 14th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) that kick-starts today. As the brand ambassador of IWC watches, the actor will be one of the presenters of the IWC Filmmaker Award at the fest. Besides giving her the opportunity to view some of the best works of filmmakers from the region, the event will also see the Kapoor girl rubbing shoulders with two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett. The British actor is heading the jury for the sixth edition of the IWC Filmmaker Award.

A self-admitted fan of Blanchett’s works, we hear Kapoor is overjoyed to share the stage with her. A source reveals, “As an actor, she has always been an admirer of Cate’s work. She is looking forward to discussing cinema and fashion, her two greatest passions, with Cate.” Kapoor, who is heading to Dubai today, will walk the red carpet at the opening ceremony this evening.

The award gala, which will be held at Madinat Jumeirah Hotel, is scheduled for December 7 and will give a cash prize of $100,000 to one feature film in development to help the winning filmmaker bring his story to the big screen. Others invited at the prestigious event include Turkish star Tuba Büyüküstün and Lebanese-Australian lawyer, model and charity worker Jessica Michelle Kahawaty. Much like Blanchett, this is the Bollywood star’s third appearance at the festival that has steadily gained recognition over the years.

Enthusiastic about the event, Kapoor says, “I look forward to meeting all the beautiful women from all walks of life at the event.” Interestingly, the film festival will also be presenting the DIFF Honorary award to Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan for his contribution to the world of cinema.

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who essays the fantastical character of Hela in “Thor: Ragnarok”, says she “really enjoyed” beating people up as the female villain of the film. “I think so (whether Hela is the most physical role she has ever taken). I’m pretty physical when I’m on stage. ‘Indiana Jones’ was quite physical. But in terms of hand-to-hand combat, this definitely wins. And that’s been part of what I’ve relished actually,” Blanchett said in a statement.

She said she enjoyed working with Zoe Bell, whom she called “the most extraordinary stunt person and also a wonderful actor”. “We had this sort of really symbiotic relationship. She’s been very generous and clear and such an incredible teacher, showing me how to mime better. But also to say that this moment leads here and that there’s an opportunity if you wanted to do something in here.

“It’s not looking at a fight in a traditional way, which is a series of punches and kicks and knocking someone to the ground. There’s a psychology in it, which has been really fun to play with. I’ve loved it,” she added. Blanchett also said that “some of the happiest times on this film for me have been beating people up. I’ve really enjoyed it”.

“I was like, ‘oh, I don’t have to speak today. I can just throw axes into someone’s gut and decapitate that person there’. So, it’s been good,” she said. Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok” is directed by Taika Waititi and also stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins and Jeff Goldblum among others. The movie will release in India on November 3.

Disclaimer: This article contains a major spoiler from the upcoming movie ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.

The release of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is right around the corner, and we are already losing our minds contemplating how the story will unfold in the third installment of ‘Thor’ series. On one hand, Marvel Studios is trying their best to be impenetrable about the movie’s premiere, while others are simply making things tougher by creating loopholes in their plans by dropping massive spoilers.

Earlier, we saw our beloved ‘Hulk’, Mark Ruffalo accidently stream the first few minutes of the film, after he went live from Instagram at the premiere of the film and forgot to turn the video off. Well, this time around too a massive plot-twist was revealed, but thankfully the cast wasn’t responsible for the spoiler.

Blame it on a universal conspiracy or the over-excited junta, there are certain things that probably even Marvel Studios can’t control and spoilers lead that list. Recently, ‘Thor’ and ‘Hulk’ i.e. Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo appeared on an interview with ‘The Project’. In a bid to ask interesting questions, the TV host went ahead and blurted out one major story plot, leaving Chris Hemsworth visibly embarrassed and shocked after this gaffe. The host spoke about Cate Blanchett’s character ‘Hela’, the Goddess of death and referred to her as Thor’s SISTER. (ARE YOU KIDDING US?)

Now this is definitely a massive blow because even in the comics, she has been addressed as Loki’s daughter, which will make her Thor’s niece since Loki is his adoptive brother. Anyway, without digging too deep into their relationship, the point is that Hela might actually be Thor’s sister, if the host’s words are taken into consideration. Hemsworth was also taken aback by this sudden revelation and shot back at the host saying, “You can’t say it’s his sister, you can’t give that away.”

And not just once, the spoiler was dropped three times. So the reporter started the conversation with this bomb and we really have to applaud Hemsworth for not losing his cool completely.

First Spoiler…

“Obviously it’s a star-studded cast, our very own – the gorgeous – Cate Blanchett plays your sister, Chris.”

Second Spoiler…

“Your Sister, Chris.”

Third Spoiler and the most major one…

“And for a lot of this movie, your sister – she’s trying to kill you, your brother…”

This is when Hemsworth interrupted him, but the damage was already done, so he tried to play it cool and said jokingly that “This is not live, is it? We can rewind the tapes…”

We guess after this gaffe, Mark Ruffalo is breathing a sigh of relief as he is no longer the king of spoilers. This host now takes the award home with this epic stint that we’ll most definitely remember for the longest time. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is slated for an October 25 release…and only then will we know if this major spoiler is actually true.

Perhaps one of the most heavily advertised Marvel Studios franchise, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is setting excitement fever ticking on high, ever since the trailer and teaser were dropped and people literally lost it.

In the latest instalment, Thor has been held captive on0QwXMRHg another planet without his hammer ‘Mjolnir’ and has to return to his world of Asgard in order to stop supervillain Hela and the doomed Ragnarok. However, in order to do so, he has to fight Hulk and THAT is the challenge.

The craving for the release is increasing by the minute and while fans await the November release, Marvel has been tantalising poor souls by throwing around casual videos which are basically adding fuel to the fire. The latest TV spot that was released shows Thor in a gladiatorial battle with Hulk. Cate Blanchett looks fantastic as Hela who represents death and is furiously hell bent on wiping out Asgard.

The stellar star cast includes Tom Hiddleton as ‘Loki’, Chris Hemsworth as ‘Thor’, Benedict Cumberbatch as ‘Dr. Strange’ and of course you’ll see a lot of Tessa Thompson.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ was dope! The action was awesome. The visuals were insane and it was extremely funny. Top 5 marvel movie. #ThorRagnarok

#ThorRagnarok is stunningly fun and hilarious! A modern-but-maybe-even-better Bukaroo Banzai/Flash Gordon! Splashy, colorful awesomeness!

THOR RAGNAROK is hilarious & weird & offbeat & retro & sublime. Love how Marvel let Taika Waititi make a movie that’s Waititi-ish as hell.

If you are a fan, then the decision is obvious for you to watch it. The wait is soon going to be over, so stay strong and wait for it. It’s going to be glorious!

Man, we just can’t catch a break, can we? After the madness that was the Justice League trailer, the reveal of the Infinity War footage and just a ton of crazy shit, Marvel have just gone and stomped everyone’s sand castles down into the dirt and slapped us with the latest ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ trailer. And it looks good, it looks damn good. I mean, just look at the bloody poster!

Thor

Y’all know the drill. Hela, played by a scene stealing Cate Blanchett, is pissed off and lays waste to Asgard, flinging the God of Thunder all across the galaxy (pun intended) and smashing Mjolnir. Thor lands on a backwater planet where he is kidnapped and forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena. The Hulk shows up and proceeds to kick the Thunder God’s ass! And it’s freaking glorious.

The footage looks very cool with that awesome synthwave beat pulsating in the background. Marvel, my heart and soul are ready! I’m no Marvel fanboy, always been a DC stable, until Geoff Johns destroyed the company, but their trailers always manage to appeal to the nerd in me.

Oh, did I mention Loki? Yeah, he’s back. The fan favourite villain is back with that sly smirk and is ready to kick some serious ass alongside his brother.

Thor(c) Marvel Studios

And what can I say about the Hulk? Wow, If Marvel aren’t getting the rights back for Universal for a solo Hulk film, I’d just rather they do a whole bunch of Hulk team up movies. For sure! That final shot of the Hulk leaping into a fight with Surtur, the fire demon, is the bloody money shot.

The action is kinetic and the colours pop out of the screen. If there is one thing we know about Marvel is that they know how to get your blood flowing with a damn good fight scene. We can’t wait for November.
