Unless you are a die-hard Marvel fan, knowing everything about the MCU can be a tedious task. Well, not many knew about ‘Black Panther’ until he made his cinematic appearance in ‘Captain America: Civil War’. He is one of the most important heroes in the Marvel stable and with just a couple of weeks away from the release of his own stand-alone superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the excitement to know more about the enigmatic character is creating quite a buzz. ‘Get On Up’ star Chadwick Boseman will be seen playing ‘Black Panther’ while Michael B Jordan will be seen donning the antagonist Eric Killmonger’s awesome suit. We also have Academy award winner Lupita Nyong’O playing the role of Nakia.

Helmed by Ryan Coolger, the story begins after the death of T’Challa’s father.  He returns home to an isolated and technologically advanced nation to take his place as the rightful King of Wakanda. But a powerful enemy reappears and T’Challa’s valour and loyalty is tested. The fate of his kingdom and the world is at risk. It’s time for him to take charge and kick some serious ass.

Fun Facts About 'Black Panther' That Every Marvel Fan Should Know© Marvel

But before the Monarch of Wakanda makes his official cinematic debut, a source close to the film revealed some exclusive facts to MensXP, giving us a bit of insight into one of the most anticipated Marvel films of the year.

1. The Casting Of The Dora Milaje

An essential part of Black Panther lore that has been incorporated into the film are the Dora Milaje. They are the cadre of strong fierce women who serve the King and royal family as their royal force.  “Not many know but the security force feature a huge range of woman from different continents. The Dora Milaje were cast from a pool of actresses, stunt women and Broadway dancers so that each individual Dora could have specialized skills that they brought to the table,” shares the source.

2. Getting A Hang Of African Style Martial Arts

Another interesting fact is how the cast and stunt team practiced with African drums played by musician Jabari Exum so that their movements would have a musical quality found in many African-based martial arts.

3. The Cast Performed Their Own Stunts

The stunt and action scenes of ‘Black Panther’ will have hooked fans to the screen. But what’s really amazing is the fact that most of the stunts were performed by the cast themselves. “The cast did the majority of the fight scenes on their own. Chadwick Boseman, has a comprehensive martial arts background, which made him perfect pick for the role. He knew and all the other actors knew what they were in for when they were asked to attend a “boot camp” to prepare them for the physically for their characters.”

4. Michael B Jordan’s Makeup

You wouldn’t believe it but Michael B. Jordan spent more than 2 hours every day in the makeup chair. It took makeup designer Joel Harlow and three other makeup assistants who would apply 90 individually sculpted silicone moulds to his upper body. “It was one hell of a job, placing those moulds and then painting and blending the colors as per his skin tone and texture.”

5. A Mythical Land With A Real Language

The on-screen spoken language of the kingdom of Wakanda is Xhosa. “It’s one of the ways the makers are trying to ensure that they bring in some authenticity. A precedent had been set in Marvel Studios’ ‘Captain America: Civil War’, when actor John Kani, who portrayed King T’Chaka, used his native accent. Chadwick Boseman has picked up the accent from him as well. Though the whole film is in English, but you will see the use of Xhosa in some places,” shared the source.

6. Warrior Falls

The whole construction of the Warrior Falls set took almost four months. “The set was somewhat 120′ x 75′ in size and 36′ tall and the entire set is 100 feet tall. The team really worked hard to match the look of the rocks in Oribi Gorge in South Africa. One will see what exactly I am taking about once they watch the film.”

The Black Panther cast is leaving no stone unturned in promoting their film. The film also stars Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, with Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis in vital roles. It will hit theatres on the 16th of February 2018.

While most of the actors in Bollywood are still trying to mark their identity in the industry, Ranveer Singh came, acted and conquered the tinsel town with his extraordinary performances. The actor has not just stunned us with his work but has also proved that there is no role that he can’t pull off.

Give him any character and he can effortlessly get into the skin of that role, proving how versatile he is. Every time his film hits the screens, people can’t help but go gaga over his work. And since the time he has joined the Sanjay Leela Bhansali bandwagon, he has only branched out more as an actor.

Ranveer Went Into A Truly Dark Place To Become Khilji© Sanjay Leela Bhansali Production

When ‘Padmaavat’ was finally released, one thing we were absolutely sure was of Ranveer’s performance. Since the time we got a glimpse of him in the scorching trailer, we couldn’t help but get drawn towards his dark persona and aura.

It takes a lot for an actor to share the screen with two other contemporary actors like Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor and still make a villainous character stand out and become the talk of the town. While, we are strongly moved by the visual treat that Bhansali directed, it is Ranveer who deserves all the accolades for making this historic film an entertaining one.

Despite playing a negative character, Ranveer as Alauddin Khilji, is electric and magnificent. You can’t help but fall for him more than anyone in the film. In fact, don’t be surprised if you find yourself rooting for him by the end of the film.

Khilji’s maddening obsession for the beautiful Rani Padmavati was extreme and to get into the skin of the role was no easy job. Ranveer left no stone unturned for the same. Talking about the process he revealed, “I took 21 days and locked myself up in my Goregaon house. I was completely isolated.”

Ranveer Went Into A Truly Dark Place To Become Khilji© Sanjay Leela Bhansali Production

Revealing more about how he got into the skin of Khilji, he said he went to a ‘dark place’ emotionally. Talking to Indian Express he said, “I kind of isolated myself, marinated into the character because I can’t relate to Alauddin Khilji, I can’t relate to that level of manipulativeness, greed and ambition. I had to tap into dark experiences but his world view is not something I can relate to also.”

He gave the entire credit to Bhansali and his vision for his character. “He is as much a creator of this character as I am. All credit to him. His is the most amount of direction I have taken from across these three films (‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, and ‘Padmaavat’). He just knew what he wanted to do with Alauddin Khilji and was having so much fun doing it.”

Giving more insight into his way of attaining perfection for his character, he said it can be a dangerous abyss.  “I have had some life experiences that were quite dark. I can’t reveal too much because it is too personal but it is the stuff I have brushed under the carpet so to speak. Stuff that I have buried in my conscience, which I had to dig out in order to play this character. And it was not always pretty, which validates my apprehension. I knew how deep I had to go into this rabbit hole. I would have had to go into this dark, black space. This abyss that could be dangerous for me. And it was.”

Well, looking at Ranveer’s sheer persona and ferocious aura, one can just admire his dedication and applaud his work. The man truly deserves all the praise and veneration for his magnificent performance in ‘Padmaavat’.

There are some sequels that make you want to wait for the next instalment but not the same can be said about abysmal ‘Hate Story’ franchise. With every subsequent release, it just keeps getting worse! It’s high time that the people who actually made ‘Hate Story’ (all 4 parts of it) put this terrible franchise to rest, once and for all.

Image 1(c) T-Series

After 3 films, comes the fourth one starring Urvashi Rautela, Karan Wahi & Vivan Bhathena,, which essentially packages an old story in new bottle. It’s all about love, sex, dhokha and revenge. How original, isn’t it?

Image 2(c) T-Series

The trailer reminds us of old Hindi films where we have seen this over a zillion times now, but the only new factor is Urvashi Rautela’s unnecessary skin show in order to add some kind of sleaze factor. Except that Urvashi has nothing substantial to offer.

Image 2(c) T-Series

In the fourth ‘Hate Story’ film, you have Karan and Vivan who are essentially brothers. Urvashi plays a girl who is in love with Karan. On the other hand, you have Vivan who also loves Urvashi and Punjabi actress, Ihana Dhillion plays his girlfriend. Vivan is essentially mad in love with Urvashi, which forms the premises of the film. Talk about a ridiculous love triangle!

Image 4(c) T-Series

The sequences and the dialogue in the film will literally make you cringe.  You also see Gulshan Grover playing father to both the heroes.

Image 1(c) T-Series

The trailer says it’s not a love story….it’s a hate story. Well, we didn’t feel any hate, maybe more like apathy, but you should check out the trailer yourself and let us know if you felt any emotion whatsoever.

Directed by Vishal Pandya the film will hit the screens on March 9, 2018.

Over the past few years, several landmark films have been dedicated to various sports and Bollywood has released some awe-inspiring tales of famous sports personalities that have literally moved us, making them incredibly compelling stories for the viewers.

2018 looks like a promising year for Bollywood with filmmakers releasing some enthralling stories. While there are some other films that we are looking forward to, it is these sports films that have grabbed our attention.

Some amazing actors will be seen donning the hat of some impeccable sports personalities on screen. Sports biopics have always been highly anticipated in Bollywood, and here’s a list of actors whose films you should look out for:

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar's Gold(c) Excel Entertainment

Khiladi Kumar has set his sights on Gold this year. The actor will be seen as a hockey player for the first time onscreen in the movie ‘Gold’. It is a biopic based on the life of hockey player Balbir Singh Sr., who was on the team that won the first Olympic medal at Games of the XIV Olympiad, London for India as a free nation in 1948. All set to release by end of 2018, the film is being directed by Reema Kagti.

Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh and Kapil Dev(c) Instagram/ Ranveer Singh

Actor Ranveer Singh is one of the most sought-after names to play any real characters onscreen. Over time, this talented actor has proved that there is no role that he can’t don. Adding to the list of his prodigious roles will now be that of former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev in a Kabir Khan directorial feature. Playing Kapil Dev is a tough job and it will be interesting to see how Ranveer steps into this the shoes of this iconic player that India can never stop raving about. The film will focus on India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup win under Dev’s captainship when the Men in Blue defeated West Indies in the final to clinch their first-ever World Cup trophy.

Diljit Dosanjh And Taapsee Pannu

Soorma(c) Twitter

The Punjabi sensation, Diljit Dosanjh has made his place in Bollywood in no time. He isn’t just an actor but also an excellent singer as well. Diljit is now all set to stun us once again his next movie ‘Soorma’, based on former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh’s career.

The film also stars Taapsee Pannu who has been breaking character stereotypes since the time she entered the industry. Taapsee is all set to kick some ass in a film about hockey. The film is a love story that revolves around Taapsee and Diljit, where both are playing the role of professional hockey players. The two also underwent extensive hockey training before they commenced shooting for the film in Punjab last year. Directed by Shaad Ali, the film will hit the screens in June 2018.

Shraddha Kapoor

Saina Nehwal and Shraddha Kapoor(c) Instagram/ Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor has been seen experimenting with her roles recently and her fans are excited about her next flick. After trying her hands playing Mumbai’s female don Haseena Parkar, she is now all set to play a sportswoman in an upcoming biopic on badminton star Saina Nehwal. We already know Shraddha is taking some rigorous badminton lessons from the ace player herself. If the film turns out well, it will definitely change Shraddha’s image as an actor for better.

Angad Bedi

Angad Bedi(c) Twitter

The bomb disposable expert from ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, Angad Bedi will also be seen playing the role of a hockey player on-screen along with Diljit Dosanjh. He will be portraying the elder brother of Sandeep Singh in ‘Soorma’. What makes this the perfect role of Angad is the fact that he is a trained athlete and can play this role very efficiently.

After all the drama and fiasco, ‘Padmaavat’ has finally hit the theatres and the team can finally breathe a sigh of relief. While the Karni Sena are still protesting, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film has nothing that can hurt the proud Rajput clan’s sabhyata and sanskar and we can literally vouch for that.

Talking about the film, it has definitely received mixed responses. While some are going gaga over the production, some are disappointed with the script and flow of the film.

Image 1(c) Sanjay Leela Bhansali Production

But, despite all this, everyone is still talking about Ranveer Singh’s performance. The actor is the saving grace of the film and is impeccable as Alauddin Khilji.

Deepika Padukone is stunning and there is no one who can say otherwise. But, when two heroes share the screen together, they are bound to be compared to each other. Who performed better is always the million dollar question.

Image 1(c) Sanjay Leela Bhansali Production

Shahid Kapoor, who plays Maharana Rawal Singh has been receiving tremendous praise for his work by his fans. Though in my opinion, the actor looks more like a mannequin in the film with an oddly pursed mouth and face.

Fans have been tweeting to Shahid saying that this is one of his best performances till date and he has been responding to them whenever he can.

Image 2(c) Sanjay Leela Bhansali Production

Today, the actor retweeted a fan’s video where the man says that his performance is better than Ranveer’s in the film!

 https://t.co/qcKIXkmX7p

— Shahid Kapoor (@shahidkapoor) January 25, 2018

Talking in the video, the fan said that despite having fewer scenes compared to Ranveer, Shahid is the real star. He aced his role and Ranveer Singh couldn’t match up to Shahid’s performance in the film.

If you have watched the film, let us know who you think performed better.

While Bollywood and television industry is still suffering in the hands of the censor board, web series, on the other hand, are going all out experimenting with everything to get a hang of what audience might like.

Keeping the conservative thoughts and the CBFC tantrums off track, the web series-makers are coming with content that might offend some but will be loved by many. Bidding adieu to the daily soap operas and ‘saas-bahu’ drama, the OTT platforms are creating and curating content that millennials can easily relate to.

2018 is full of long weekends and this Republic Day weekend, we have four interesting shows all set to stream on our gadgets.

With makers like Ekta Kapoor and Vikram Bhatt helming these series, it surely is going to be a binge-worthy weekend for entertainment buffs. From courtroom drama to thriller to military drama, we list down four shows that you should definitely watch.

Breathe – 26th January

Starring R. Madhavan, Amit Sadh, Hrishikesh Joshi, Nina Kulkarni, and Sapna Pabbi, ‘Breathe’ is an Indian drama that explores the lives of ordinary men faced with extraordinary circumstances. The trailer of the show has created quite a stir in the tinsel town. After all, Madhavan is indeed a fine actor who can impress anyone with his acting. Written and directed by Mayank Sharma, this happens to be Amazon’s first trilingual venture. Breathe is all set to release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu this Republic Day.

Untouchables – 27th January

Vikram Bhatt lately has been quite active on the web. The director has been feeding his viewers with some interesting concept and is now gearing up for the release of his new web show ‘Untouchables’. This thriller courtroom-drama revolves around a medical student who’s an escort and lands up facing a murder charge when her client is killed. No doubt that makes for one hell of a storyline. The series will be Vikram’s daughter Krishna Bhatt’s directorial debut.

The Test Case – 26th January

‘The Test Case’ took off in 2017 but due to some internal issues, after the first episode, the show was put on hold. However, ALT Balaji is back with this show once again, starring Nimrat Kaur, Atul Kulkarni, Rahul Dev, Manit Joura and Akshay Oberoi. The story is about the first woman to be inducted into the Indian Army and the hardships she faces throughout her journey. Well, the story looks promising and we can surely expect a stunning performance by Nimrat. Directed by Vinay Waikul and Nagesh Kukunoor, we will also see Juhi Chawla making a guest appearance.

Spotlight 2- 26th January

This Viu web show is a story about a musical sensation being played by Karan V Grover. ‘Spotlight’ traces the rise and the fall of this music icon reminding you the story of Rahul Jaykar from ‘Aashiqui 2’. As music is the highlight of the show, we will also get to hear some original composition by musicians like Harish Sanganay, Ankit Shah, and other popular artists.

Noted Director Ram Gopal Varma has given us some absolute gems of films like ‘Satya’, ‘Rangeela’, ‘Company’ to name a few. But lately, he has been off his game and often pops up in the news for all the wrong reasons, including his bizarre comments on Twitter.

And now the director is all ready to make his online debut with his upcoming movie ‘God, Sex and Truth’. Well, the name sounds quite interesting but what has created a buzz is the fact that adult actress Mia Malkova is starring in the film. The web film will trace the philosophical route of her life and time. People are quite excited about it already and the trailer of the film has received a great response from the viewers.

Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor have never held back from praising each other publicly and are always the first to root for each other. Sonam has always proudly flaunted that she is daddy’s girl and she never hides it. Well, looking at Anil, it’s hard to believe that he is her father because the man is ageing with sheer grace.

Remember when they appeared together on Karan Johar’s show ‘Koffee with Karan’? The father-daughter duo literally cracked everyone up and enjoyed every moment with each other. Their camaraderie was spot-on and we could feel the warmth they share.

We know there are many who would love to see the two together in a film, playing their real-life roles on the reel as well. And believe it or not, it’s finally happening.

Pretty exciting, isn’t it? Anil and Sonam will soon be seen in a film together playing the father-daughter duo. And that’s not it. The supremely talented Rajkummar Rao is also part of this project and Juhi Chawla will also be making a comeback with his film.

Titled as ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’, the movie will be directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and his sister Shelly Dhar. This will be Shelly’s directorial debut and Vinod will be helping her with this project.

Interestingly, the name of the film itself has a close connection with Anil’s blockbuster movie ‘1942: A Love Story’ which gave birth to the evergreen love song ‘ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga’. There is literally no one who hasn’t heard this song at least once in their lifetime.
