Sridevi’s last film appearance will be in Aanand L Rai’s Zero starring Shah Rukh Khan, which is slated to release in December. The late actor shot with Karisma Kapoor and Alia Bhatt last October. It has several leading Bollywood female actors doing cameos.

Contrary to media reports on Monday that the legendary actor died of a cardiac arrest, post-mortem says she lost consciousness and drowned in her hotel bathtub. Dubai police has transfered the case to the Dubai Public Prosecution, which will carry out regular legal procedures that follow in such cases.

Late actress Sridevi’s mortal remains brought to Mumbai from Dubai and will be kept for three hours at the Celebration Sports Club, Andheri west, near her residence. The funeral will take place on Wednesday

Late actress Sridevi’s mortal remains brought to Mumbai from Dubai on Tuesday night. The funeral will take place on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday evening on behalf of the Kapoor and Ayyappan families, the body will be kept for three hours at the Celebration Sports Club, Andheri west, near her residence from 9.30 a.m. onwards, to enable people and her fans to pay their last respects.

Her final journey will commence at 2 p.m from the club to the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium & Hindu Cemetery at S. V. Road in Vile Parle west, where it will reach around 3.30 p.m.

As per present arrangements announced, media will not be permitted either inside the the club or the crematorium.

The statement was issued on behalf of Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor, their daughters Khushi and Janhvi, and the entire Kapoor and Ayyappan (Sridevi’s side) clans.

Sridevi passed away following accidental drowning in a bathtub in her hotel room in Dubai on Saturday night, plunging Indians, especially and her fans, into shock as the news emanated on Sunday morning.

For three days, the Dubai police authorities completed various legal and medical formalities before the body was finally handed over to the Kapoor family on Tuesday afternoon.

The body, accompanied by a few close family members is expected to be flown to India late tonight in a private aircraft

The untimely demise of Sridevi has left her countless fans as well as Bollywood in a state of shock. While a steady stream of B-Town stars visited Anil Kapoor’s Juhu residence yesterday to condole the death of the superstar, several others cancelled events that were scheduled for the week. Shabana Azmi took to Twitter to announce that she and husband Javed Akhtar would not be hosting the annual Holi party this year. “Our Holi party at Janki Kutir stands cancelled on 2nd March in the wake of Sridevi’s passing away (sic),” she wrote.

Rani Mukerji, who was slated to release a new song of Hichki yesterday, called off the launch. Another ardent fan of the superstar, Kangana Ranaut was stationed in Bikaner for the shoot of Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi when she heard about Sridevi’s death on Sunday morning. So distraught was the actor that she cancelled her shoot for the day. The unit of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor-starrer 102 Not Out too decided to defer the filming of their song on Sunday, as a mark of respect to India’s first female superstar.

Ram Gopal Varma, who had directed Sridevi in Kshana Kshanam (1991) and had often described her as his muse, was grief-stricken by the unfortunate turn of events. He postponed the announcement of the title and poster of his new film with Nagarjuna, to a later date. The music launch of Maniesh Paul-starrer Baa Baaa Black Sheep, scheduled to take place today was also called off.

Dubai police on Monday recorded the statement of Boney Kapoor, husband of Bollywood actor Sridevi who died of accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub after losing consciousness, according to a media report. Kapoor reportedly discovered Sridevi unconscious in the bathtub filled with water. She was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Dubai Police called in Kapoor today to Bur Dubai police station for investigation. Police took his statement after which he was allowed to go back to his hotel room, sources were quoted as saying by the Gulf News.

The Dubai government said in a tweet the police had transferred the case to the “Dubai Public Prosecution” which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases. “Dubai police headquarters today stated that the death of the Indian actress Sridevi occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment’s bathtub following loss of consciousness,” the Dubai government’s media office said on Twitter.

There could be a further delay in Sridevi‘s body being brought back to India, with the Dubai police informing the Indian Embassy that another “clearance” was awaited before the body could be released. Sridevi was in Dubai for a family wedding and had stayed back after the ceremonies. Her husband had flown back to Mumbai with their younger daughter Khushi, but returned to Dubai to surprise her.

The news of her death, first reported at around 3 a.m. IST on Sunday, sent shock waves across the country with those who knew her at a loss to explain how the star, who was present at several wedding functions in Dubai last week, could suddenly breathe her last. Her family has not commented beyond their initial statement yesterday to announce the death, and has requested the media not to contact them as they grapple with the tragedy.

As the country mourns the loss of its favourite superstar Sridevi, there are speculations surrounding her sudden death in Dubai. mid-day has learnt that Adnan Siddiqui, Sridevi’s Pakistani co-actor from Mom (2017), was one of the first few people to reach the Jumeirah Emirates Tower after learning about her death on Saturday night.

Recounting the ill-fated night, Siddiqui told mid-day, “I got a call from a journalist at around 11 pm asking if the news about Sridevi’s death was true. I immediately called up Boney [Kapoor] saab and rushed to him.” The actor says he reached the hotel to find the investigation going on and the room cordoned off. “I got to Jumeirah Emirates at around midnight. Initially, I was not allowed to go upstairs. At the time of the investigation, only Boney saab and Dubai officials were present. So, I waited in the lobby for about an hour.”

It was only after the initial rounds of investigations were done that Siddiqui met Kapoor upstairs. “When everything was settled, Boney saab called me upstairs. He was there along with a family friend, his wife and a daughter. Boney saab was crying like a baby; he was inconsolable. I was with him until 5 am. He was under a lot of stress, so I advised him to rest, and then left.”

The Pakistani actor had developed a warm bond with Sridevi and Kapoor while he was shooting with the former for Mom. So disturbed was Sridevi about not being able to meet him after the film’s release, due to the ban on Pakistani artistes after Uri attacks, that she invited him specially for her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Ras Al-Khaimah.

“When I landed in Dubai at 11 pm last week, I called up Boney saab and asked him if it made sense for me to come at that hour considering the function may have been over. He said, ‘Even if the function gets over, we will wait for you’. So I drove for two hours to Ras Al-Khaimah,” recollected Siddiqui, adding that true to her word, Sridevi was waiting for him. “I can’t believe that I met her four days ago and now, she is no more.”

She was a quiet lady who had a bundle of talent. She could shock directors. She was upheld as the queen of acting in all languages. She was a dedicated homemaker, a great mother and the perfect host. She maintained her dignity and integrity as an actor, and a person, in this demanding industry. Her work on screen will be written in textbooks.

News of her demise seems like a bad dream. I couldn’t believe it till I saw it on news channels. We worked together in several films like Tohfa (1984). She was a wonderful actor and mother. It was her dream to see her daughters [Janhvi and Khushi] rule the silver screen – just like she did.

Sridevi was unique. I don’t think anyone can take her place. It is a loss for everyone – the industry, her fans and even her co-actors. She knew how to attract the audience gently, and that is a rare quality. She had the ability to leave anyone spellbound. I cherish the moments I spent with her while filming Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish (2012). Even when she was not on the set of the film, her presence was always felt. She could make anyone and everyone feel at ease. I never felt intimidated by her because she was affectionate. She had respect for her co-actors, which helped them grow. It is frustrating to learn that I will not see her again. She will be greatly missed.

It’s shocking to know that Sridevi is no more. I was fortunate to work with her in three to four films. She was reserved and would not make small talk on the sets, but the minute the camera rolled, she would transform and get into character. On the set of Chaalbaaz (1989), the director was not convinced with a shot that involved me applying makeup. When Sridevi saw me struggling, she decided to do it herself, and that became a part of the film. What the audience saw was her actually applying makeup on me. She was health conscious. It’s sad that being an actor demands that one be fit. The pressure we endure can be too demanding.
