Actress Anushka Sharma says experimenting with roles has been a mainstay in her career from the start. Anushka spoke to the media here on Monday on the sidelines of an event organised by Standard Chartered Bank, where she was announced its brand ambassador. In a promotional campaign for her latest endorsement, Anushka plays the triple role of a daughter, mother and grandmother.

On the experience, Anushka said: “I have always tried to experiment with my roles right from the beginning.

“This year, I am doing films in which all my characters are very different from one another in terms of physical and emotional appearance. So, when you get to do that in an advertisement, you feel great.

“Playing a triple role was something which I had never done before, so I was very excited. It takes a lot of time while doing prosthetic make-up, but the end result was great. So, I was all up for it.”

Anushka’s upcoming Bollywood projects include Zero and the biopic on Sanjay Dutt.

“I am really happy that this year, I am doing different kind of films and both films are going to release very soon. As far as the Dutt biopic is concerned, that’s one film that the audience will be very excited about and will be happy while watching it.

“I recently saw a teaser of it and I really liked it. I am doing a cameo in it. Nevertheless, I am really looking forward to watching the film.”

The actress-producer also shared her thoughts on the ordinance to introduce death penalty for rapists of children, after the nationwide uproar on Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

“I was deeply hurt and affected by the incident. Even now, when I think or talk about it, I feel disgusted and extremely emotional. I feel the most severe punishment has to be meted out to the people involved.

“The most severe punishment should be served to those who spoil something as innocent as a child because it’s the worst thing that a human being can do.”

Actor Arunoday Singh is happy with the growth of digital platforms for entertainment content. He says it keeps many people active and employed. Arunoday has featured in Netflix’s Love Per Square Foot.

Asked how he feels about the boom of digital mediums, Arunoday told IANS over phone from Mumbai: “I think it is wonderful. I think it has legitimately given so many actors legitimate work… It is not work to look down upon. It is actually good work and it keeps so many people employed and active.”

“The more options actors and writers have, I think it is spectacular,” the 35-year-old actor added.

Does he feel that the digital medium can over take the silver screen?

“There’s a certain thrill to see a movie in a theatre… But if the theatre people keep over charging us, including for water, then maybe people will stay home and stream (things online). It has to be feasible to go to a theatre. If they are not careful, then digital will overtake only because of the money and the convenience,” he added.

Barring Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan who wore a Rohit Bal floor-length jacket, the designer duo’s friends, old and new, wore ensembles from Abu-Sandeep’s roster. How’s that for brand loyalty?

For once, nepotism proved good for business. Over the weekend, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla hosted a reception gala for the latter’s niece and the CEO of their brand, Saudamini Mattu, at a Juhu club. And it was a gathering of friends and family of the influential kind, dressed in the designated dress code – Indian festive. She was the style victor of the night. Her deep-tinted locks went well with the ivory bindi prodding same pinch with her saree tone, offset by a jade-hued neckpiece. The blouse had the daintiest of tassel details noticeable only when she swayed to Pallo Latke in comfy Kolhapuri flats.

The unmistakable pre-wedding glow was in place as India’s darling fashionista made an appearance in a Phulwari black and white gharara. The mogra cha phirki gajra and maang tikka was a nice touch that the pretty-close-to-perfect to-be bride added.

The two gentlemen who mattered had something in common: moccasins in midnight blue. While Bachchan’s pair had tassels synonymous of the 1920s, KJo’s had spikes – both in gold.

The hosts who claim, “Chikan is our Birkin”, were dressed in white – their favourite shade. Jani wore a Mughal-inspired, full-pleated angrakha in luxurious buttery muslin, accessorised by a gigantic ruby ring. Khosla stuck to the trademark white tee worn under a floral gold cutwork kurta.

Omkar Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015)

Omkar Kapoor had to recently shoot a pool sequence for the web series, Kaushiki. Sharing that filming in the cold pool for hours was challenging, the actor said, “We all were drinking brandy to keep ourselves warm.”

Omkar says he has got friends for life after working on web series Kaushiki. The Viu show features Sayani Gupta, Rannvijay Singha, Mansi Scott, Namit Das, Rajeev Siddhartha and Shruti Shrivastava amongst others. “The web series Kaushiki gave me friends for life. Rannvijay, Mansi Scott… in fact all the actors of the show bond really well with each other and like each other’s company,” Omkar said in a statement.

“During the shooting, we always looked forward to shoot breaks as we used to get time to spend with each other. I am glad that ‘Kaushiki’ happened to me, just like the show it has some amazing people associated with it,” he added. The show chronicles how relationships are tested when things go horribly wrong between a group of friends.

Omkar Kapoor, who made his Bollywood debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015), thinks the digital medium has an advantage over films in its massive reach. “Films might not release all over the world. But this platform allows you to reach the audience sitting halfway around the globe,” he points out.

Ask him if he is apprehensive about switching gears to web shows and he says, “The biggest actors in Hollywood and Bollywood are exploring the digital space. The best part about the web is that there aren’t any restrictions. I don’t view it as a downgrade from films.”

Inaamulhaq

Airlift (2016) and Jolly LLB 2 (2017) actor Inaamulhaq’s next, Nakkash, is set to launch at the India Pavilion at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May. The makers of the film, which sees the actor in the lead role, will unveil the first look and the teaser at the event.

Evidently excited with the development, Inaamulhaq says, “I am still trying to come to terms with the fact that I’m going be part of the world’s most renowned film festival, where wonderful movies are screened every year. I am humbled and grateful to those whose contribution has helped me achieve my dream.”

Zaigham Imam’s directorial venture is based on Nakkashi art in Varanasi temples. Inaamulhaq says he underwent a fair share of training to learn the art. “It was difficult but interesting. The factory where I underwent training was always noisy given the continuous hammering of metals. On the first day, I could not bear to be in the venue for over three hours. But eventually, I got used to it,” he signs off.

Anushka Sharma also expressed her disgust on the Kathua rape case

Anushka Sharma

Responding on the ordinance to amend Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Bollywood star Anushka Sharma affirmed that she is in ‘1000 percent’ support of the ordinance. The Centre on April 21 cleared the amendment in the POCSO Act to award death sentence to the rapists of children below the age of 12.

“The most severe punishment has to be vetted out to the people involved. So, I am in absolute support of it, 1000 percent. Child rape is the worst thing a human being can do,” the Sultan star said at an event on Monday.

Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma also expressed her disgust on the Kathua rape case where an eight-year-old girl, belonging to a nomadic Muslim tribe, was allegedly abducted, drugged, gang-raped, tortured and killed in January.

“I, like everyone in this country, am deeply hurt and affected by the incident. Even now, when I think or talk about it, I feel disgusted and extremely emotional,” said Anushka.

The actor played Prince Philip in the first two seasons of the Netflix royal drama The Crown

Matt Smith
Matt Smith

Actor Matt Smith has opened up about the news that he was paid more than his The Crown counterpart Claire Foy, saying he supports her. He also said that the show’s producers have now ‘made amends’ for the gender pay gap. The actor spoke about the issue on Sunday at the world premiere of his new biopic Mapplethorpe at the Tribeca Film Festival, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

“Claire is one of my best friends, and I believe that we should be paid equally and fairly and there should be equality for all,” Smith said. “I support her completely and I’m pleased that it was resolved and they made amends for it because that what’s needed to happen. Going forward, I think we should all bear in mind that we need to strive to make this better and a more even playing field for everyone involved — but not just in our industry, in all industries.”

The actor played Prince Philip in the first two seasons of the Netflix royal drama. It’s unclear what Smith was referring to when he said Netflix and producers Sony Pictures Television Production had “made amends”.
