akshay-sidNeeraj Pandey’s directorial that was first scheduled for release of January 25, 2018, shifted it’s release date to February 9, 2018 to avoid clash and give Akshay Kumar starrer “Pad Man” a solo release.

But, then, Akshay shifted his release date from January 25, 2018 to February 9, 2018 to give SLB’s “Padmaavat” a solo release. This means Akshay again initiated a box office battle with “Aiyaary” team who averted the clash in the first place.

Now, during an interaction with IANS, Sidharth Malhotra, who plays a pivotal role in “Aiyaary”, was asked about the clash.

To this, he revealed that the clash between his film and Akki’s “Pad Man” could have been avoided. But he says he can only hope for the best now.

“Aiyaary”, which has a patriotic vibe, was originally slated for release on January 25 to make the most of the long Republic Day weekend.

However, Akshay Kumar, as a move in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and to let “Padmaavat” get a solo release, shifted “Pad Man” to February 9, bringing the situation back to square one — clashing with “Aiyaary”.

Sidharth says: “Yes, it irritates, but now it’s too late. What can we do now? Look, we announced the date first. When ‘Pad Man’ makers unveiled their release date, we were gracious enough to shift our release date to avoid the clash.

“This situation could have resolved earlier, people could have stuck to their dates, respecting others’ space. I was not expecting the makers of ‘Pad Man’ to release their film with us, especially the second time. We thought we will get a solo release.

“See, eventually the fate of the film will speak for itself. We are confident about our film, it has its audience. Now that we cannot change anything, we can hope for the best.”

In “Aiyaary”, Sidharth plays an Army officer who has an ideological difference with another senior officer, played by Manoj Bajpayee. The movie also features Rakul Preet Singh, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah.

karan_aliaAlia Bhatt says she is single again!

Yes, you heard that right! With the rumours floating in the air about Alia’s relationship status we now know it all, that she is single again.

And we heard it from the gorgeous actress herself when she called her godfather Karan Johar on his show Calling Karan on 104.8 Ishq FM to seek some advice.

KJo who has been donning the RJ’s hat quite well, has been receiving calls from B’town celebs for relationship advice on the show.

Similar was the case with Alia who was feeling lonely in the new year while seeing people around her with celebration plans.

Alia asked KJo what should a single people like her do when they feel lonely to which his mentor replied with much ease, “You are a great person with great friends around. Alia you have such an amazing vibe of your own, you don’t need a boyfriend to feel complete. You can have a great time with your own thoughts. Own yourself, create your own vibe and atmosphere.”

Here’s the conversation that they had:

Alia- Hello

Karan- Yes, who am I speaking with?

Alia – Karan, you don’t recognize my voice or what?

Karan- No, who am I talking to, this is me, you are calling Karan on Ishq 104.8. I hope you are doing the Ishq baby!

Alia – I am totally doing the Ishq baby but I am very sad baby because you don’t recognize my voice

Karan – Oh my god, it’s you Alia. How are you? Sorry I don’t know, I have been getting so many calls you know I am getting confused with the voices. How are you doing?

Alia – How can you get confused about my voice Karan? I am very sad.

Karan – don’t be sad, what makes you sad? What is your problem my dear? Tell me my child, how can I help you?

Alia- I just thought that if I am to take an advice from you, I should rather take it on -air. Since calling Karan is such a hit and since I am always calling you and always calling Karan, tell me right now on Ishq 104.8 FM

Karan – Yes, what do you want to know? What do you want to know?

Alia- It’s the holiday season right, like Christmas, New year, everyone is partying and those who are single feel a bit lonely. What about them? What do we do about the people who are feeling single? Like I am single and everybody is walking in and partying with someone somewhere

Karan – I in fact Alia, this is something I have said to you before or I would say to a lot of people which is you don’t need to feel complete because of other person and I say that to you also very often that you are a great girl, you have some great friends, you have such a great vibe, you don’t need a boyfriend to feel, you know, feel complete or feel completely like you’re having a great time. You can have such a great time even with your own thoughts, you are that kind of a girl. So I mean own yourself, enjoy your own self, enjoy the people around you, you have so many people who love you including your family and friends and I don’t think a boy should come there to kind of change your vibe, you can make your own vibe, you can create your own atmosphere. I always say that, like you know, we sometimes overrate relationships and underrate the power of ourselves. So I’m like, it’s a holiday season, go out, I am sure I believe you are going out on a girls vacation, so isn’t that fun?

Alia- Ya

Karan- Ya

Alia- that’s lots of fun

Karan- that’s going to be lots of fun, are you really interested in a boy to be around and ruin all that fun? You’re gonna have so much more fun with just the girls right?

Alia – Ya, not like I go out too much also, but ya you are right, so not to feel upset

Karan- not at all, don’t feel the holiday blues, feel the holiday highs because trust me you might be better off because who wants the frill of a relationship, the fighting, the arguing, the madness, the possessiveness, the yada yada yada you know the drill, I mean you know how it gets, I mean, you know how it gets. I have been single for so long but I am really in the best phase in my life. Of course, I want you to eventually find the right relationship and eventually the right husband

Alia- but no need right now

Karan- no need, you’ve got some amazing movies, you’ve got great company you are part of, you’ve got me, you’ve got friends, you’ve got your family and you are amazing Alia, you don’t need anyone

Alia- okay Karan, I love you! Thank you!

Karan- Alright, I love you too, have a good time, okay bye

Alia- bye.

karani-sena-members-protestA day before the release of ‘Padmaavat’, protests against the film intensified across several states with members of several fringe outfits taking out rallies, blocking roads and damaging vehicles.

Earlier in the day, 48 people were arrested in Ahmedabad for indulging in violent acts over the film’s release. In fact, on Tuesday night, dissenting outfits unleashed violence and arson in parts of the city.

Mobs attacked shops, torched vehicles, and pelted stones. The destroyed property included at least 200 vehicles, including bikes and cars, that were either set ablaze or damaged.

Subsequently, theatre owners across Gujarat on Wednesday announced their intention to not give the film a screening till the matter was resolved, to ensure “the safety of customers as well as to save their property.”

In Mumbai, more than 35 supporters of Rajput Karni Sena, one of the groups opposed to the film’s release, were detained.

Police also arrested the Karni Sena’s Chittorgarh unit chief, after its spokesperson declared that over 1,900 women of the community were “ready” to commit “jauhar” or mass immolation.

In Gurugram, protesters torched a bus and pelted stones, while in Meerut, they threw stones at a mall.

“Eight-10 masked men had come to pelt stones at PVS mall. Police is on the lookout for the men. We will provide security to the mall at the time of screening of the film,” ANI quoted Civil Lines circle officer Chakrapani Tripathi as saying about the situation in Meerut.

Later in the day, clubs and bars in Gurugram were ordered closed from 7pm in view of the disturbances. The closure is expected to continue till further orders are passed by the authorities, reported ANI.

Agitators also blocked the Delhi-Jaipur highway.

In Madhya Pradesh, nearly 200 protesters blocked National Highway 3, which links Agra with Mumbai, in Indore district and broke glass bottles on the road, PTI reported. Protesters also tried to stop vehicles.

Some 50 activists of the Karni Sena burnt an effigy of the film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Indore-Depalpur road.

The Karni Sena also gave a call for a ‘janta curfew’ on January 25 – the day of the film’s release. This move is meant to prevent people from watching ‘Padmaavat’.

The group’s chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi said a ‘janta curfew’ on cinema halls would mean that the public will stop the film from being exhibited.

“We are adamant on our stand that this film should be banned. There should be a self-imposed curfew by people,” he said.

Kalvi claimed that leaders of the Shiv Sena had assured the Karni Sena of their support in Maharashtra, reported PTI.

He also rejected as “rumours” reports that some members of his outfit had watched the film ahead of its release.
The Rajasthan government accepted the people’s right to protest, even as it asked that they remain within the “framework of law and order.”

“We have appealed to protesters that if they want to protest while being within framework of law and order, they can go ahead with it. As a matter of fact, there aren’t many cinema halls in Rajasthan who are ready to screen the film,” the state’s home minister Gulab Chand Kataria said.

Several fringe groups allege that ‘Padmaavat’ distorts history and shows the Rajput community in bad light.

Despite the censor board clearing the film for release, four states – Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana – had banned its screening. Their move was later overturned by the Supreme Court.

padmavaatThe Supreme Court’s green signal for an all-India screening of “Padmaavat” notwithstanding, Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi on Wednesday said the Rajput organization won’t allow the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial to be released as it shows the Rajput queen in less than honorable light.

“We are adamant on our stand that this film should be banned. January 25 may come and go but we won’t let the film release, come what may,” Kalvi said.

He asked people for a self-imposed curfew to boycott the movie that “insults the mother, Rani Padmavati”.

Asked about the violence being perpetrated in the name of banning the movie, Kalvi said it was “sad”, but held Bhansali responsible for it.

shah-rukh-khanShah Rukh Khan, along with actor Cate Blanchett and singer-songwriter Elton John, received awards at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Monday for the work raising awareness about human rights issues. The 52-year-old Bollywood star received the award for showing an exemplary commitment to uphold human dignity through his non-profitable Meer Foundation.

Meer Foundation provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. He has also been responsible for creating specialised children’s hospital wards and has supported childcare centres with free boarding for children undergoing cancer treatment.

It was his impassioned speech about women and child rights which had the world’s top policy makers and executives cheering for the actor. Here is SRK’s full speech from Davos…

Honoured to receive the @wef’s 24th Crystal Award, together with @eltonofficial and Cate Blanchett. My fan moment!!

— Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) January 22, 2018

I am genuinely and deeply grateful for this honour and it is a privilege to be in the company of two phenomenal and extraordinary human beings and talent, Cate Blanchett and Sir Elton John

She is of course a lady who commands the wind and you sir command the song of a billion hearts, including mine. I am really touched that I am chosen between these two. Just a special request, before you go, can I do a selfie? Now, there I have embarrassed my children.

Actors are renowned narcissists. No matter how much we pretend not to believe in external beauty, we tend to be obsessed by it one way or the other. And perhaps being surrounded by this obsession of beauty, a few years ago I came across a lady who had been brutalised by an acid attack. It kind of changed my life or my perspective of it, at least.

To disfigure a woman by throwing acid on her face, to me, is one of the basest, crudest acts of subjugation imaginable. At the source of it lies the view that a woman does not have the right to assert her choice, say no to the advances of a man or a group of people. And yet, each of the women I met, I found within them the courage to move on with their lives and reject the idea of victimhood. What struck me most about them was this — what was done to them only made them braver, stronger and able to free themselves, to make the choices everyone around them was telling them they could not make or should not make. From them I have learnt how courage can catalyse victimhood into heroism, how solidarity — rather than charity – enables the human will to overcome, how equality is not a concept but a truth that encompasses all living beings, how service of others is not a choice anymore for any of us but it is a duty that all of us must fulfill in the name of humankind.

When I journeyed through the life of these heroic women and children through the work of Meer Foundation, I experienced a complete reversal of perspective. I stumbled upon the truth that there are no benefactors and beneficiaries between living beings anymore. There is just a vast pool of resources – natural, spiritual, economic and technological – that everyone is equally entitled but some have gained by more access to it. Either by accident, as in my case, or by talent, design and hard work as in the case of all of you present here. Standing here before all of you who constitute perhaps the most powerful group of human beings in the world, I dare say power is one of these perspectives we like to maintain a certain way but power actually needs a complete reversal more than any other thing in the world today.

I was babysitting my five-year-old son before I came here today and suddenly he screamed, “Papa, papa my eye went into my hair. Can you get my eye out of my hair?” He didn’t say get my hair out of my eye, like we all believe we do. And it is a bit like that when you have power, you think things get in its way but it is actually power that is getting in the way.

It gets in the way of universal access to resources because it seeks to control and enclose them so we, the powerful, need to get out of the way, I think. To pick the barriers apart – the ones that give us names and colours and races and hierarchies. We need to get out of the way and into the work of breaking open access for each and every one with a true sense of ourselves but not as more powerful or less privileged, but genuinely as equals. That is what I have learned from my beautifully scarred women. I am thankful to these brave women and children who I work with for all they have done for me, to World Economic Forum and all of you present here for recognising the heroism by conferring this award upon me.

I want to thank my sister, my wife and my little daughter for bringing me up well and teaching me the value of requesting, sometimes imploring and begging a yes from a woman, instead of forcing it upon her.

Ted-SRKShah Rukh Khan, after receiving the 24th Crystal Award in Davos at the World Economic Forum (WEF) for “his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India”, said that he is happy to get recognition on a global platform for his “minuscule work”. “Extremely charged with the amazing opportunity I have had. This award is a recognition for the minuscule work that I did. I would like to do it with even more fervour. What is even more pleasant is that India is here in full power,” King Khan told media after receiving the Award.’

SRkKing Khan who has been all over the news for his film Zero, recently mentioned on the shoot of TED Talks India Nayi Soch that he wanted a 4th kid called Akanksha.

We all know how much he loves his kids and is protective of them. A lot of fingers were pointed at him on his news with his surrogate child AbRam Khan, to which King Khan came out in the open and spoke about it confidently.

We hear that he is planning to have a 4th child.

While shooting for the upcoming episode, SRK was made to say ‘Akanksha’ to which he fumbled a lot of times leading to multiple retakes.

To this he joking exclaimed, “I am fumbling with this name a lot and it’s really embarrassing because this never happens to me. I think I’m going to have a 4th kid very soon and I’m going to name her Akanksha.”

padmavatThis is not a review of this year’s most awaited film. And why this year? “Padmaavat”, nee Padmavati, is perhaps the most anticipated film since Raj Kapoor’s Satyam Shivum Sunderam. The frenzy that has been incited by some fringe groups, the threats and abuses, the violence and the virulence have whipped up the nation’s appetite.

Methinks, the Sena doth protest too much.

Having had the privilege of being close to the project from its inception, I can say one thing in all certainty. “Padmaavat” is a proud majestic anthem to the valour and pride of the Rajput community. Every frame, every movement exudes a nationalist fervor, a sense of unbridled pride and joy though without a trace of arrogance in being Indian. It is likely to see a major success, perhaps even bigger than “Baahubali”.

I wonder what the fringe groups would have to say once the film is out. Will they apologise to the nation and to the community they purport to represent, for misleading them?

The film industry is a soft target for peripheral attention-seeking organisations. I had never heard of the Karni Sena till the “Padmaavat” protests started. Now we can’t hear the end of their bickering and abuses. I get a feeling they will continue to protest against the film even after it releases, so habituated have they become to the limelight in the past months.

How will they survive without the platform of television channels to scream invectives at Bhansali and the film industry?

Maybe they can find another hapless filmmaker to target? This will keep on happening as long as an emasculated entertainment industry too afraid to speak up; too self-absorbed to care about what happens to a fellow-filmmaker.

As a prominent director explained: “If it was Karan Johar, he would have ten colleagues sitting besides him holding his hand under siege. But Sanjay Bhansali has not made too many friends in the industry. He’s paying the price for it.”

One direct fall-out of the unsolicited troubles that “Padmaavat” faced was the fear of history that now grips the film industry. The makers of bio-pic on Jhansi ki Rani are running through their script constantly to ensure no faction is offended by any of the dialogues or situations.

Nonetheless, trouble may visit any film. Some group or the other may come forward to say Kangana Ranaut is not from Jhansi. How dare she play Jhansi Ki Rani? I am surprised nobody brought up the Rajput angle vis-a-vis Deepika Padukone. Or the Islamic card to deride the casting of the Punjabi Ranveer Singh. Never have we seen a society so abjectly divided on the basis of caste and religion.

Here’s the fallout on historicals in Bollywood: No one is going to make them anymore.

Says a filmmaker: “History and mythology are taboo, unless you’re making a “Baahubali”. Hats off to Aamir Khan for his determination to make “Mahabharat”. He can be pulled up for anything — from his wrong cultural identity to his lack of knowledge of the Epic. The best thing is to make a “Golmaal” or a “Judwaa” in this country. Anything deeper gets you into trouble. So, for now, goodbye history.”

Unless someone wants to make a film on the troubles that “Padmavaat” faced during its shooting and before its release. That would be one hysterical historical. It may become an even bigger hit than “Padmaavat”.
