Take any Disney princess movie or a Hollywood High society teen drama, and you will find people waltzing around in big flowing gowns and suits. They were events where people made their official debut aka introduced themselves to the society or the beginner’s or debutante ball. Well, if you don’t want to go that far, we can talk about the Yule Ball in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, which was a similar event.

The point is we often thought that these parties were exaggerated fragments of our imagination and I am sure I am not alone in thinking this way. If you too thought that such events existed only in movies or fairytales, then all of us were possibly living under a rock all this while, because a similar glamorous ball just took place in real life and let’s just say fairytale is an understatement in front of it.  

Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris is an society event, that brings together over 20 girls and boys from prestigious families from across the world. The event was started in 1992 by Ophélie Renouard and the purpose of this ball is to raise funds for charity that further assists girls. Every year around Thanksgiving this glamorous ball is organized where kids from business families, star kids and royalty are selected to make their official public debut. This year the event took place in the French capital at The Peninsula Paris.

So why are we discussing this event? Because this year marked the debut of actor Chunky Panday’s daughter Ananya who looked stunning in a blue gown designed by Parisian couturier Jean Paul Gaultier at the ball.

For rehearsals of the event, she chose a black and golden “firefly” dress created by ace designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

Apart from Ananya, Indian royalty Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur and Princess Gauravi Kumari too attended the debut ball.   

Just in case we forgot to mention, Maharaja Padmanabh Singh was partnered with the beautiful Ava Phillippe, daughter and can we say doppelganger of actress Reese Witherspoon. How strikingly similar the two look, can be figured from this picture.

After Ananya made her grand debut, we can’t really wait for her to floor us all with her Bollywood debut. While, speculations were rife that she might debut opposite Tiger Shroff in ‘Student of The Year 2’, that is not happening as of now. So we will still have to wait for details to pour in.

Sunny Leone just shared a video on Instagram that people can’t help but watch again and again. A crew member played a prank on Sunny and it is damn hilarious. The actress is seen sitting carefree on a chair and reading the script, while a crew member approaches her from behind with a snake that looks almost real.

He dangles the snake near her face and Sunny still doesn’t have a clue at all. A few seconds later, she turns her face and the man throws it at her and runs away. The actress gets up with a knee-jerk reaction. Looking at her response it is obvious to say that she was clueless and ended up screaming when she saw the snake thrown at her.

Well, that was just one thing, but he also shared a beautiful message that made the diva blush.

In fact in an interview by Filmfare, when Deepika was asked about what is the best thing when in Ranveer’s company she said, “When we’re with each other, we don’t need anything or anyone else. We’re comfortable in each other’s presence. Sometimes it’s intelligent conversation, sometimes just silence, sometimes there’s a childlike innocence. We keep each other grounded. We are good in that sense.”

Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, who will be making their Bollywood debut with “Dhadak”, seem to have won over the heart of their director Shashank Khaitan, who calls them hardworking and respectful actors. “Dhadak” is an official remake of last year’s Marathi blockbuster “Sairat”, the rights of which were bought by producer Karan Johar.

“The prep work for the film began sometime back and I have been working with them. They (Janhvi and Ishaan) are great people and are very hardworking, these are two things that I always look for in actors. “They are good people who respect others and are dedicated to their work and ready to give their best,” Shashank tells PTI in an interview here. At the moment, the makers are putting together the project with the first schedule of the film rolling in December.

“Dhadak”, a co-production between Zee Studios and Dharma Productions, is set to release on July 6 next year. The writer-director accepts that he has worked only with star kids. He earlier worked with actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starred in the “Dhulania” series — “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” and “Badrinath Ki Dulhania”.

Janhvi is actor Sridevi’s elder daughter while Ishaan is Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother. “They (star kids) do not come with burden, they are far more relaxed and chilled out. For me, even when I was working with Varun and Alia, I was working with two new actors and they never treated me as someone from outside the film industry.

“…And I have never treated them as someone from the industry. Same thing over here, with Janhvi and Ishaan I am their director and they are my actors,” Shashank says. Meanwhile, the team of “Dhulania” series (Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt-Shashank Khaitan) will also be back for the third part. Talking about the third part, Shashank says, “We are
definitely wanting to do it. But right now we are busy with ‘Dhadak’, I am focused on this film. Once I am done with this, maybe then we will take the ‘Dhulania’ series forward.”

Kalki Koechlin says celebs should not give opinions on topics they know little about

Kalki Koechlin has always been vocal about her views on various social issues, but the actor believes celebrities should not give opinions on serious subjects unless they are well-versed with them. The 33-year-old says there is always a risk associated with being a public figure as there are chances of one’s views being misinterpreted. Koechlin says, “I believe when a celebrity voices an opinion, there are chances for it to be taken out of context. The celebrity should personally relate to the subject. If they just put a face to the cause, without knowing about it, it doesn’t serve the purpose.”

She adds, “I agree with the fact that when a public figure supports a cause, it makes a big impact. It involves a lot of people and gives confidence to others to talk about the issue. But ultimately, the change comes from the entire community. Branding by a celeb is just a seed.” The actor says she is growing as an artiste and has found a novel approach to express herself. “I am doing a lot of experimental films as well as theatre. I am doing more of indie stuff as I don’t get that many commercial offers, but I am busy. I don’t have any complaints and I am happy about the experiences. I am constantly evolving as an actor. I keep finding newer ways of expressing myself,” says Koechlin, who will next be seen doing a cameo in Shanawaz Nellikunnil’s Candyflip. There is also a web-series lined up with filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, which is about a big fat wedding gone horribly wrong.
