A. R. Rahman to celebrate 25 years in music by going on a four city tour

After marking his 25th year in the music industry with the August release, One Heart: The AR Rahman Concert Film — a compilation of his 14-city US tour — the musician is set to connect with his fans in India with a four-city show. The Academy Award-winner will take AR Rahman ‘Encore – The Concert’, to Hyderabad (November 26), Ahmedabad (December 3), Mumbai (December 17) and Delhi (December 23), marking his first solo gig in the country in five years.

Reflecting on his journey in the industry, Rahman tells mid-day, “Music serves as a spiritual bond between the audience and myself. I am excited about performing at home after such a long gap. These 25 years have been incredible. The almighty has been kind in giving me happiness that has multiplied year-after-year. From a husband and father, to a composer and mentor, I have embraced different roles, but music has been a constant.”

Given the massive fan-following that Rahman enjoys, the biggest stars of the industry are being considered for supporting acts, with a source close to the musician adding that the names of Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth and Priyanka Chopra are being tossed around. “The who’s who of the film fraternity will come together to celebrate the occasion. Several international technicians have also been hired for the tour,” the source says.

Mira, after waving cutely, joined her hubby for the chat. She said, “Hi Shanatics (Shahid fans), I don’t have to be introduced to them. They have such an overwhelming presence on social media. In order to mark the release of Sajid Nadiadwala’s ‘Judwaa 2’, actress Jacqueline Fernandez shared a picture of the producer-director duo Sajid Nadiadwala and David Dhawan.

Sajid Nadiadwala is all set to recreate magic after 20 years with the revamped version of the 1997 Salman Khan starrer ‘Judwaa’ with ‘Judwaa 2’.

The uber stylish and glamorous Jacqueline Fernandez will be seen reprising the role of Karisma Kapoor in the 2017 film. ‘Judwaa 2’ will mark the fifth collaboration of Jacqueline Fernandez and Sajid Nadiadwala after delivering back to back hit films while the film will be Jacqueline’s first collaboration with David Dhawan. The actress who has earlier worked with Rohit Dhawan and Varun Dhawan marks a hattrick working with the Dhawans with ‘Judwaa 2’.

As the film released today, Jacqueline Fernandez shared a picture of the producer-director duo giving them a shout out for their bond. Sajid Nadiadwala’s ‘Judwaa 2’ is a film packed with action, drama, humour and romance just like the original 1997 Salman Khan starrer ‘Judwaa’. The trailer of the comedy film has left the audience in splits with its perfectly timed jokes and brilliant performances. The songs ‘Chalti Hai Kya 9 se 12’, ‘Suno Ganpati Bappa’, ‘Oonchi Hai Building’ and ‘Aa Toh Sahi’ have got everyone dancing to its tunes.

There has been huge anticipation to witness the evergreen classic get a contemporary twist. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, directed by David Dhawan, ‘Judwaa 2’ is presented by Fox Star Studios and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film hit the screens today with an exceptional opening at the box office.

David Dhawan’s films have the same brief – give the audience’s brain some downtime. Anything is possible in his world. One of the supporting characters insists the music notes go, Sa Re Ga Ma Amitabh. Big B did Pa, get it? Another one wonders aloud: Are Einstein and Valentine related? Okay, then. There’s a passport agent who feels he should deal with Aadhar cards for better business, while another asks: Ab ki baar kiski sarkar? It’s okay to be politically incorrect to raise the guffaws. The makers are not looking for logic, nor do they claim to, it’s only harmless fun.

As Dhawan reboots his Salman Khan-starrer with son Varun two decades later, he relies heavily on the original rather than weaving in some freshness. So, you have the Timid Twin and the Turbulent Twin separated at birth by the villain. One grows up in London, the other in Mumbai. It does not take long for the latter, who also has a sidekick with a speech impairment, to wing his way to the Queen’s city. Nor does it take time for the twins to find their respective ladylove there. Enter two Ms Hot Pants to prance around with, in some exotic locales.

Varun continues his Main Tera Hero (2014) act. He can mimic B-Town’s leading men, make you laugh, cry and everything in between. It’s clear he wants to give it his all, doing what he loves to do: entertain the masses, even though he is two times over.

The writer duo, Sajid-Farhad, known for penning comedies like Golmaal Returns (2008), All The Best: Fun Begins (2009), Housefull 2 (2012), have simply woven a lot of gags together to pass it off as a story. They even make turn a moongphali into a Baahubali when not pondering about Big Ben’s small sister. To give credit where it’s due, there was a lot of cackling in the auditorium every now and then. But the question is, for how long can you bear the double dose of nonsensical onslaught? It’s funny in parts, but meanders in the second half. As one of the tracks goes: Chalti hai kya nau se barah? It’s your call.
