It seems like ‘The Joker’ is the most sought-after character at the moment, what with new movies being announced like every day.

A couple of days back, we got to know about a new Joker origin story being in the works, and that too is being produced by Martin Scorsese, apparently. But, surprisingly, Scorsese’s involvement wasn’t the best part about this upcoming movie; the fact that Jared Leto wasn’t going to be a part of the project whatsoever was.

But, we were all flying too high and needed to be brought down a peg. Warner Bros./DC just announced that Jared Leto will return to play the Clown Prince of Crime in a new movie, along with Margot Robbie, who will reprise her role of Harley Quinn.

Honestly, this is quite confusing, since Jared Leto’s scenes were mainly cut out from ‘Suicide Squad’. Or maybe Leto and Robbie’s chemistry won’t be that bad in their own movie. We’ll just have to wait and watch.

Reportedly, this movie will be released after the ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel. According to one source, the film will apparently be ‘criminal love story’, featuring the two murdering maniacs who are cornerstones in the Batman mythos. Another insider said, “an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on Benzedrine.”

Let’s see if these two villains can actually make a whole movie centred around them work, or if Jared Leto disappoints everyone again.

Bollywood produces many films every year. While some go on to do really good business at the box office, some films tank. But there are some genres that do really well at the box office every time that film releases. Well, we are talking about the comedy genre in Bollywood. Time and again, comedies have proven to be Bollywood’s favourite bet.

So, today we have for you the rib-tickling comedies that Bollywood has produced over the years and have proven to be sure-shot successes.

1. Gol Maal (1979)

Directed by the talented Hrishikesh Mukherjee and starring Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt, Bindiya Goswami, and Deven Verma in lead roles, this was a rib-tickling comedy that left everyone with tears of laughter. This film has an IMDb rating of 8.6 and is one of the most-watched comedies ever. Utpal Dutt, a quirky businessman, judges all people by their moustaches and those who don’t have one are not considered to be people worthy of any attention. He even discourages people from having any hobbies. One day when Amol Palekar’s lie gets exposed, all hell breaks loose and it is this hilarity and confusion that marks the ending of this movie.

2. Angoor (1982)

This 1982 film, which was an on-screen adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play A Comedy Of Errors, starred Deven Verma and Sanjeev Kapoor in double roles. The film also had a star cast comprising of Deepti Naval, Aruna Irani, and Moushumi Chatterjee. With an IMDb rating of 8.4, this film was one super-duper hit. 3. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

This film has an IMDb rating of 8.5 and was one of the most successful Bollywood comedies to have ever been made. With a star cast comprising of Satish Shah, Naseerudin Shah, the late Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Deepak Qazir and various others, it was a dark satire on the rampant corruption prevalent in Indian politics. This is a must-watch film if you want to witness the sheer magic that these stars created on-screen. Do watch a famous scene from the movie below:

4. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Who can forget the characters of Teja, Crime Master Gogo, Robert, Amar, Prem, and of course the leading ladies, Raveena and Karisma? Rajkumar Santoshi managed to pull up a casting coup of sorts when he got Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, the biggest superstars of that time together in a film. When this film released in 1994, it was declared as a flop film. However, over time this film has managed to gain a cult status, and is immensely loved by people, young and old. Even the dialogues of the film are such that people remember them till date. Have a look at one of the most famous scenes of the movie right here:

5. Hero No. 1 (1997)

Comedy and Govinda go hand-in-hand! No list of comedy films can be complete without a mention of any of his films. This film was helmed by David Dhawan and also starred Karisma Kapoor, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. When Govinda and Karisma Kapoor’s characters fall in love and their love is not accepted by her family, Govinda enters the household as a servant and wins over their hearts is what makes the plot of this film. With an IMDb rating of 6, this should be on your watch list if you too feel that nobody can beat Govinda when it comes to comedy films.

6. Hera Pheri (2000)

With a rating of 8.2 on the IMDb scale, this movie was an instant laugh-riot. Paresh Rawal is a poor landlord who is very near-sighted and his tenant Raju (Akshay Kumar) too is jobless. Enter Suniel Shetty and the trio are stuck in a rut of poverty. When a cross-connection leads them to a ransom call from a multi-millionaire, they decide to keep the money for themselves. This cat and dog chase marks the culmination of the movie and the final chase scene is perhaps the most hilarious scene ever made. Watch a small snippet from the movie here:

7. Hungama (2003)

Starring Paresh Rawal, Akshay Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Rimi Sen in lead roles, this 2003 movie was a roller-coaster ride full of laughter and fun. Loosely based on Charles Dickens’ play, The Strange Gentleman, this movie had amazing performances by the star cast. Shakti Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, and Tiku Talsania too played side roles in the film. With a rating of 7.5 on IMDb, this is a must-watch if you wish to enjoy a laughter-filled evening with your family. Filmed by Priyadarshan, this one should rank high on your watch list. And in case you’re still not convinced, watch a hilarious snippet from the film right here:

8. Khosla Ka Ghosla (2003)

Starring Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Vinay Pathak, and Ranvir Shorey, this movie is a hilarious take on the property dealers everywhere. When a dishonest property dealer (Boman Irani) grabs Anupam Kher’s land, hilarity ensues and the film marks how the entire Khosla clan and a motley group of actors come together to take their land back. With an IMDb rating of 8.3, this film should be on your to-watch agenda if you enjoy clean and classy comedies.

9. Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya? (2005)

Starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sushmita Sen, and Sohail Khan in lead roles, this was one roller-coaster of laughter inducing film. Directed by David Dhawan and with a rating of 5.5 on IMDb, watch this film if you enjoy nonsense comedy and are looking for a stress-buster. Samir (Salman Khan) is a doctor and a womanizer. Whenever a girl tries to ask him for marriage, he lies and says that he is already married. But when he meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif), he falls in love with her and so convinces his nurse, Naina (Sushmita Sen) to be his fake wife. The resulting chaos is what marks this film’s ending.

10. Bheja Fry (2007)

Starring the indomitable stars Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Sarika, Ranvir Shorey, Milind Soman, and Bhairavi Goswami, this is a must-watch film if you enjoy clean comedy films. What happens when a music producer invites an aspiring singer to his house is the theme this film follows. In trying to help everyone, Vinay Pathak’s character ends up creating a mess for Rajat Kapoor. And, when he asks him to leave, he again tries helping out and creates a further complicated situation. The film ends on a funny note with Rajat Kapoor almost wanting to kick Vinay Pathak out of the house. While the film opened to below-average collections, word-of-mouth praise made the film gain a considerable amount at the box office.

‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’
A; Action
Director: Kushan Nandy
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bidita Bag, Jatin Goswami
Rating:  3 stars

A major issue with a film without any moral compass/centre whatsoever is that it’s unlikely to generate much empathy among its audiences, whether for the situations on screen, or the characters concerned. Anybody can be shot at, and die, or not; and since all of them are bad guys anyway, who cares? That’s a bummer.

Be that as it may, this is that dystopian, guilty-pleasure, very ‘male’ movie, if you may, that gracefully avoids descending into obvious misogyny, and which you wish to access precisely for the grime, sex, guns, and a dark-grey world, where practically everyone is so frickin’ twisted in the first place.

Also Read: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag get steamy in ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ song ‘Barfani’

The ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ in the boondocks is incidentally Babu Bihari, the sharpshooter (Nawazuddin Siddique). Forget small-town, this is almost a rural film. The sharp-shooter has made a name for himself in his UP hamlet over years. One of the young lads (Jatin Goswami) is Babu’s shagird in disguise. He looks up to him and hopes to beat him at his own game. What’s the game, really?

Well there isn’t quite a well thought-out modus operandi frankly, besides that Babu does the hit-job and heads off to a home far away in the fields that no one knows of. Perhaps even that doesn’t matter, since North India is cinematically very much the Wild West, where anything goes, and the boys have a lot to learn from Dirty Harry flicks playing dubbed in Hindi on their television set.

Oh, and another thing about this film’s genre. The gun-slinging hero is usually supposed to be a stylized action-star, walking in slo-mo to scintillating notes on the slide/electric guitar. There’s none of that here. There’s hardly any background score. If anything, Nawaz—the diminutive, casually soft-spoken Everyman in shirt and lungi—is the opposite of obvious swag. You’re naturally drawn to him nonetheless because you simply can’t take your eyes off his understated presence. This is not the first time. He literally stoops to conquer.

The beauty of this film is also the sort of fresh talents you see around the li’l guy—the cop character is a complete champ, as is Babu’s competitor, or his wife, or the politician…. Together they represent a rather rooted, moody film with a fairly recognizable family tree, some of which show up in obvious nods/tributes to pics like Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya (Babu and his wife at the door, when he returns home), or Gangs Of Wasseypur (the camera gazing at a naked man washing clothes by the tube-well, instead of a woman). Soundtrack sounds slightly Vishal Bharadwaj.

Actually, come to think of it, if you took out all the characters and crime-history from Gangs Of Wasseypur, you’ll come close to this. Given what a masterpiece Gangs was, that’s a pretty good compliment by the way!

It was 1992 when aestheticization of violence in movies became a new thing, Hollywood was looking forward to. A young film-maker wanted us to see his craft in extended dialogues, ensemble cast consisting of lesser known actors, and popular culture of the west. It was Quentin Tarantino’s zest in curating themes out of the box, novel and hard-nosed. Since then, there has been no looking back for him, and after decades he is known as a director who has mastered his art of depicting the neo-noir version of films.

Quentin Tarantino is a smart film-maker. Sometimes, he just wants the audience to see his revengeful plots built inside a small set and the other time, he goes to extreme parts of the world to give his viewers what they have never seen before – intense dramatization and an all consuming bloodbath. Only Tarantino could have conjured the mix between modern-day storytelling and cinematic appeal, through his epics like ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Django Unchained’, ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘The Hateful Eight’.

In 1992 came ‘Reservoir Dogs’ that launched Tarantino as a force to be reckoned with. The film depicted violence in abundance, and in 1995 it was barred from release on home video in the UK. The 90s independent movie ultimately became a cult classic.

While, ‘Pulp Fiction’ (1994) was unsympathetic, boldly rude and exhilarating, the biting shrewdness, aesthete background score and soundtrack, amplified improvisations of dialogues, the surreal twists and a coruscating equilibrium between the adrenalin scene and heroin scene allowed the film to somewhere end on a deadly note, still keeping everything alive.

Berserk, pithy and villainous stories of hatred and betrayal, marks the beauty of Tarantino’s heavy weight films. His work is perfect to the extent that he could even predict the duration for which his audience is likely to be entertained, and thus sometimes divided his movies into two parts just like he did in the ‘Kill Bill’ series, in order to never let go of the interest building factor. Later, the four-hour original cut, titled ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’, was screened in 2011, in selected theatres.

When a comparison is drawn between QT s earlier films and his modern day creations, his plots have become more layered and are now based on a real novelistic approach. Storylines are denser and more polished like never before. It is the language that matters the most to him. The screenplay of Tarantino movies is like the branches of a tree, reaching out in various directions.

QT recently tried his hands onto war genre but keeping alive his bloodletting attribute, ‘Inglourious Basterds’ was a thrill ride. A rare attention to detail in bringing alive the events and atrocities spun around war and killing of Hitler, certainly make the viewer glued to the mayhem. From the hands of the seasoned master originated ‘The Hateful Eight’, a film much intricate from the aspect of production, all set in the snowbound and isolated locations. In the light of paranoia, thrill and extreme suspense, the film effortlessly pulled off the bloodshed effect, a characteristic of Tarantino’s films.

Tarantino’s films first generate trouble and then make us go through its very effect – the madness. The audience’s faith in him lies peculiarly because of all the chaos they believe in witnessing, and knowing that the end could never be something they have seen before.

Shocking! Ex 'Bigg Boss' contestant Om Swami beaten up by angry mob in publicShocking! Ex 'Bigg Boss' contestant Om Swami beaten up by angry mob in publicOm Swami

Controversial self-styled godman and former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant Om Swami was beaten up by an angry mob in public in the premises of Supreme Court on August 22 following the verdict on triple talaq.

The incident occurred after India’s Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the controversial Muslim divorce law was ‘unconstitutional’, a decision that could herald the end of a law that Muslim women had long argued violated their right to equality.

While many across the country hailed the judgment, Om Swami and his supporters reportedly opposed it. According to media reports, Om Swami was at the Supreme Court premises at the time of the verdict. He spoke against the judgment and reportedly said that it will curb men’s freedom.

Om Swami’s statement angered the crowd gathered at the apex court and they thrashed him and his supporters in public.

A video of the incident has gone viral online. Watch it below:

Earlier this month, Om Swami was arrested in a case filed by his brother who had accused the former Bigg Boss contestant of stealing bicycles along with some documents from his shop nine years ago.

Om Swami is not new to controversies. He had earlier locked horns with Bollywood superstar and ‘Bigg Boss’ host Salman Khan. Om Swami had threatened to break Salman Khan’s bones in the show’s finale.

The future is dark and full of terrors. While Hindi cinema is yet to have a compelling sci-fi movie that depicts the dark tale of what lies in the future, we have to give it to ‘Carbon’ for making an impressive attempt. Directed by Maitrey Bajpai and Ramiz Ilhan Khan, the movie tries to depict what life without oxygen would look like in 2067, and stars Jacky Bhagnani, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Prachi Desai.

Jacky and Nawaz play the characters of oxygen smugglers in the movie and while the script looks brilliant in the beginning, its gets lazy by the end. Jacky is a man with an artificial heart who is supplying oxygen in exchange for money, wants to move to Mars where people are living in 2067. The Earth is now full of carbon and people wear oxygen masks to survive.

Nawazuddin plays another smuggler who is on the Earth to buy Himalayan oxygen. Also, Prachi Desai is a computerised ‘refugee’ who was bought online.

The movie tells the dark tale of how life could turn in 2067 if we deplete all our resources here. I’ll give full marks for the attempt.

Great concept, well executed and decent acting.

After charming us with their striking chemistry in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’, actors Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan are now coming together for Vishal Bhardwaj’s next movie which will be directed by Honey Trehan. For all those fans who were eagerly hoping for them to romance each other in ‘Piku’, their wishes might just come true as the reports state that Deepika will play a mafia queen and Irrfan will be a local gangster in love with her. The shoot is expecting to begin early next year and is apparently based on investigative journalist-turned-author S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Deepika will play the role of female gangster Rahima Khan aka Sapna Didi who had apparently planned Dawood Ibrahim’s execution to avenge her husband Mehmood Kaliya’ death.

According to a report published in Mumbai Mirror, a source revealed that “The team had been meaning to meet for a while now. Since Deepika wasn’t shooting for ‘Padmavati’ and Irrfan is in town, they decided to gather on Tuesday to discuss the script, how their characters would shape up and their looks.” Talking about the movie, Trehan said in an interview, “Deepika and Irrfan are the final leads of the film. However, right now it is too early to talk about anything else about the film. And about casting the two of course you choose an actor or actors, because they will be able to portray the roles well, and do justice to their characters. That’s the same rule for every film and a case for every filmmaker.”

Deepika Padukone & Irrfan Khan Reunite For Vishal Bhardwaj's Film© One Race Films

Earlier we saw Deepika fight with swords as the badass Mastani in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and have already seen her badass avatar in ‘xXx: Return Of The Xander Cage’. This time around, she will reportedly be learning how to wield a gun, after the wrap-up of shoot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. Irrfan, on the other hand, will start training and will be performing his own stunts. Irrfan is currently working on his upcoming project alongside Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar.

It’s exciting to see how Bollywood is gradually shifting towards throwing light on the lives of female gangsters. While, Deepika will place herself in the shoes of Sapna Didi, actress Shraddha Kapoor has already proved her mettle in the trailer of ‘Haseena Parker’. She will play the role of Dawood Ibrahim’s sister and her brother Sidhant Kapoor will play Dawood in the movie.

After the heartbreak from the 6th episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ which takes the life of Viserion, Dany’s beloved dragon, we are desperately wishing for a miracle. The dragon didn’t need to die so soon and we are totally blaming Jon and Daenerys. But if fan theories are to be trusted, there’s a silver lining in the clouds.

So ‘Beyond The Wall’ ends with the Night King transforming the dragon into one of his own, and the fiery red in Viserion’s eyes is replaced with an icy blue. The scene sent shivers down the spine as we mentally cursed Daenerys for flying to Jon’s rescue.

This Theory About Jon Snow & The Ice Dragon Is So Badass We Desperately Want It To Come True

But the latest of fan theories suggests that the situation is not as bleak as it looks. If you recall the oft-quoted prophecy about the three-headed dragon that was interpreted to mean there would be three riders for each of Daenerys’ 3 dragons. Besides her, Tyrion and Jon Snow have been the only 2 other characters who have shown affinity for the dragons. But with Viserion’s death, the prophecy seems to stand incomplete.

This Theory About Jon Snow & The Ice Dragon Is So Badass We Desperately Want It To Come True

Not if you consider the fact that all the Stark children have an ability to warg into animals. Besides Bran, Arya and Jon have been shown to be able to have a telepathic connection with their respective direwolves, Nymeria and Ghost. It is believed that both Arya and Jon are capable of warging, just that they are not completely aware of it.

This Theory About Jon Snow & The Ice Dragon Is So Badass We Desperately Want It To Come True

And thus, Jon will be seen warging into Viserion and controlling the ice dragon even though it is the Night King who resurrected him. For that matter, even Bran could control the ice dragon if it comes to that.

That’s a legit thought. Jon does represent ice. Maybe the ice dragon was for him, after all.

it’s symbolic that viserion died and turned into the ice dragon because viserys wasn’t a dragon, but jon snow is and jon represents ice

Jon Snow was reborn when he emerged from the icy water like how dani did with fire so I believe that he’ll gain control of the ICE DRAGON

Dragons can smell Targaryen blood

Jon Snow will ride the ice dragon. How else did he survive that fall into the ice? Reminds me of Deanerys when she was set to fire.

If Daenerys is the fire queen, Jon Snow is the ice king.

Aamir KhanAamir Khan

The Forbes’ list of the world’s top 20 highest paid actors 2017 was released yesterday. Bollywood makes its presence felt with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar in the top 10. Surprisingly, Aamir Khan, whose film Dangal (2016) shattered box office records (it was a big draw in China too), is conspicious by his absence. The list of the highest-paid actors is based on earnings between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017.

Earnings estimates are based on data from media measurement and analytics company, box office collections besides interviews with industry insiders. Aamir detests talking about his earnings. Nor does he share details about his accumalated wealth. We assume this is the reason he does not figure in the coveted list.

Sonakshi SinhaSonakshi Sinha

Given that the fashion police is usually up in arms against Tinsel town celebrities, particularly during awards galas, it was unusual, bold even, for Sonakshi Sinha to sport a multi-coloured floral nine-yard for the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) in New York earlier this year.

Sinha received flak for her unusual outfit until it was later revealed by a celebrity photographer that the look was part of her upcoming Vashu Bhagnani project, based on the coveted awards night. Responding to the criticism, Sinha tells mid-day, “There was a lot of confusion over my outfits, because, one was for the shoot and the other was what I chose for the event.

When people will watch the film, it will make sense.” The IIFA film, believed to be India’s first staged reality film, pairs Sinha alongside Diljit Dosanjh. Sinha says she couldn’t refuse the film owing to her long-standing association with IIFA organisers, Wizcraft. “Also, the concept is interesting, yet borderline bizarre. Nobody knew that an actual film was being shot live on the green carpet. It was funny as fans were calling out to us and we couldn’t react because we were in character.”
