The recently concluded star-studded award show, IIFA 2017, will be remembered for various reasons – glamorous beauties and dapper actors walking the green carpet, best talents getting acknowledged for their hard work and some of our favourite movies getting their due in the form of awards. But, of all these reasons, there was one that took the award show to a harmonious and soulful level. It became a memorable night for all the fans of Oscar and Grammy winner A.R. Rahman, who rocked the award night and set the stage on fire with his fabulous live performance. However, this isn’t even the best part. Rahman was honoured for his 25 years of musical journey at the award show.

It’s ironic how one section of the world was appreciating Rahman’s work and breaking in cheers and ‘encore’ during his performance, there were some who didn’t have ears to appreciate good music and walked out of his London concert because he sang Tamil songs. However, unfazed by this disrespectful gesture, Rahman performed at IIFA Rocks at the MetLife stadium and was joined by stalwarts like Diljit Dosanjh, Benny Dayal, Neeti Mohan, Jonita Gandhi and Javed Ali. He reportedly said, “I am thankful to you all for coming and supporting the concert…love you.”

Feeling excited to perform along with Rahman, singer Mika said “I am feeling very happy and proud that he (Rahman) called me here. make some noise for Rahman sir. Love you all.” ‘Naddan Parindey’, ‘Dil Hai Chota Sa’, ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’, ‘Bin Tere Kya Jeena’ and ‘Mere Paas Hai Tu’ were some of the mesmerising numbers he sang. Unlike the thankless crowd from his London concert, people cheered loudly when he performed songs like ‘Urvasi Urvasi’ and ‘Humma Humma’.

Winter is finally here and we bet after 13 long months, the opening episode of season 7 will leave you wanting for more by the time it ends. The GOT premiere was full of jaw-dropping events leaving us stunned and surprised. This time a lot more than just winter has arrived.

The opening scene begins between Arya (Maisie Williams) and Walder Frey (David Bradley). Donning a complete Lady Stoneheart avatar, Arya is out to seek revenge and settle the debts once and for all. We saw the head of House Frey die in last season. Arya is remorseless and you are going to love her when she says, “Tell them the North remembers. Tell them winter came for House Frey.”

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 1 Review© HBO

BAM! That’s one of the most sassy AF ways to begin a season. Wouldn’t you agree on that as well? Arya is cold, ruthless and unstoppable this time. We wouldn’t want to reveal what happened and how but summing it up, the man got the piece of his own meat. Just know the bloodiest massacre awaits you.

Now talking about the most talked cameo, you get a glimpse of famous singer Ed Sheeran (who plays a singing solider). Arya tells him her next destination isn’t Winterfell but King’s Landing, ‘to kill the Queen’. Cersei (Lena Headey) beware, you have no idea what destiny has planned for you.

What is winter without White Walkers? Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) has a vision that Night King is coming for them and we know Bran is always right!

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 1 Review© HBO

On the other side of Westeros, Jon Snow is seen discussing the White Walkers (Night King). After all, they are undoubtedly the greatest threat in the war. And we already got a coup d’oeil of what they are capable of doing in the last season. And the only way to end them is by finding Dragonglass.

The makers in the first episode itself establish the growing tension between Jon and Sansa Stark as Jon decides that to let go of Umber and Karstark and not chastise them Ramsay’s deed. That when you hear Sansa saying, “So there’s no punishment for treason and no reward for loyalty?”

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 1 Review© HBO

Well, well, there is going to be a tug of power between the Starks and it’s clearly evident. Wouldn’t be wrong to say that many Reddit theories already stated that Sansa might turn against her own brother, looks like this is just the start. Time for some betrayal?

And finally, what we all have been waiting to see, Cersei sends a note to Jon demanding him to bend or face the wrath of what lies ahead. You also see Littlefinger tagging along Sansa in Winterfell, after all the man wants to be repaid for saving her.

Amidst of all this, you have two Queens, who are planning to rule the iron throne and the seven kingdoms. Cersei is seen looking over a huge map of Westeros and states that she will take what is rightfully hers. While Jamie is seen wondering what are they fighting for, they have lost all that they had… Their kids and at present, they are the losing side with no allies. Jamie has got a point, you can’t win a war without an army!

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 1 Review© HBO

But Cersei has a plan. Wondering who is assisting her? Find it out yourself, we wouldn’t want to spoil everything for you.

Also, Sam and JORAH also get their share of screen-space. After all, Sam is working to help Jon in whichever way possible and now he knows where you can find dragonglass.

The episode leaves you on a cliffhanger as expected. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) has finally arrived home at Dragonstone. She rips off the Baratheon banner and says to Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), “Shall we begin?”

Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 1 Review© HBO

We just can’t wait to see more of Mother of Dragons and Tyrion. And now even after this, you feel if this six seasons old show has the ability to give you goosebumps, then all we got to say it wait till you watch it.

Hold your horses, because winter is here and the bloodiest war is coming!

Bollywood award nights are a star-studded affair and by the time the events ends, there is a lot to talk about over the next few days. From who wore what, who said what to how celebs reacted, there is a lot of gossip. And come on, love it or hate it, we all love B-town tittle-tattle.

Just recently the social media was flooded with the International Film Academy, the event has finally concluded but seems like ‘picture abhi baaki hai mere dost’.

Giving you all a quick update, ‘Neerja’ won the best film, while Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt bagged the award for best actor and best actress for their mind-blowing performance in ‘Udta Punjab’.

While many were celebrating this victory, it looks like someone wasn’t very delighted with the jury’s decision. Sushant Singh Rajput who is just a couple of films old in the industry tweeted something fishy that grabbed everyone’s eyeball. Tagging IIFA he tweeted, “.@IIFA hahahaha”.

.@IIFA hahahaha

— Sushant Singh Rajput (@itsSSR) July 16, 2017

Sushant who also gave a power-packed performance at IIFA, didn’t win any award and his tweet is being interpreted by many as an attack at who has presented an award.

Many even noted that the ‘Raabta’ actor wrote this just minute after Shahid won the award. Well, are grapes really sour or was it just a mere coincidence?

However, as expected Twitterati didn’t take this well and laughed back at him. Here are some of the best reactions:

As expected, trolls can really be rude at times and especially when things are tweeted at a wrong time even if the intentions are not wrong. But clearing the air, a close source stated that the tweet by Sushant had nothing to do with Shahid. It was just an expression of how he was once a background dancer and now had the chance to perform in front of so many people. The source also added that SSR is a very secure actor and posted this tweet right after his performance.

But as far as we see he didn’t tweet it after his performance but minutes after Shahid got the Best Actor award. Trade analyst Atul Mohan shared a picture of Shahid accepting the award at 8.29 pm, while Sushant tweeted at 8.34 pm.

So, Mr. Source, would you want to rectify what you said? Or should we give the actor the benefit of doubt? After all, it’s highly possible that the actor felt like sharing his happiness sometime later, isn’t it?

I lived my entire life believing that music is free from all the geographical boundaries and was over any and every language and religion, but after what happened at music maestro AR Rahman’s concert at Wembley Stadium in London, I feel that it was all a lie. Music is still largely overshadowed by language and except for those who genuinely love music, none of us understand the true essence or beauty of songs. On July 8th, Rahman was playing at a concert titled ‘Netru, Indru, Naalai’ in London, where he sang a couple of ‘Tamil songs’ along with Hindi songs and people apparently had problems with that. Some irked fans were so upset with the songs that they left the show midway and even demanded for a refund since they didn’t sign up for a “Tamil Concert”.

AR Rahman Reacts To Fans Walking Out Of His London Concert© Reuters

I can’t facepalm enough over this absurd line of thought of those who, at one point, called themselves Rahman’s fans. If this is how they feel about concerts and music, then I hope they weren’t a part of the crowd cheering at Justin Bieber’s or Coldplay’s India concert. But, I won’t be surprised if they were standing at the forefront and singing the lyrics as well, because clearly Tamil songs come nowhere close to English songs or the ones preferred by the West. I am not trying to fuel or trigger any debate around this Western hangover, but singing ‘Despacito’ is much easier than singing the “Punjirithanji Konjikko” verse from ‘Jiya Jale’ right? Of course, I am right! Or when K-Pop star Psy rolled out ‘Gangnam Style’, why didn’t we Indians boycott that song or left it midway because it wasn’t in Hindi? Or maybe Tamil is tougher than Korean, who knows.

AR Rahman Reacts To Fans Walking Out Of His London Concert© Reuters

Twitter was flooded with posts about how disappointed some people were after attending a concert that had too many Tamil songs and hardly any Hindi ones; or how it was disrespectful for someone who made his name in Bollywood.

That was my first ever Tamil concert guys. Albeit completely unintentional #ARRahman #SSEArena #Fail #Refund?

— Omer Chowdhury (@OmChow) 8 July 2017

Was total disaster, for someone who made his name in Bollywood(at least on sheer numbers) it was disrespectful from him, even speaking Tamil

— Apoorva Dixit (@apoorva_dixit) 9 July 2017

Was so disappointed and left half way through. The promoter #HumsiniEntertainment should of said 99% songs will be Tamil. I wouldnt of come

— Rita Mistry (@RitaMistry) 8 July 2017

Need more Hindi Punjabi songs #ARRahman #Wembley #ssearena feels like come to a South Indian concert @arrahman

— Saurabh Sethi (@Saurabh_Sethi25) 8 July 2017

@arrahman seems like he has forgotten Hindi music has brought him to international fame

— Jagruti (@JCookingOdyssey) 9 July 2017

1.#India is Not Hindia
2. #Hindi is not mother of Music
3.This Earth not only for Hindi speaking ppl  #ARRahman #stopHindiImposition

— Mani Vasu (@ManiVasu2) 14 July 2017

When and why did music become a language game, still confuses me? If you can groove to Sukhbir’s ‘Ishq Tadpave’, Honey Singh’s peppy numbers or Diljit’s Punjabi songs, sometimes even without knowing Punjabi, how can you raise such a hue and cry against a song that happens to be from another language, say Tamil? I don’t intend to demean any songs of other language, but I do want to make a point that music shouldn’t be infected with the regional or language discrimination. Being as humble as Rahman is, his reaction has put all those people who left the gig because he sang Tamil songs to shame. He reportedly said, “We try our best. We try to be honest. I love the way how people have supported for all these years without them I’m nothing. I’m grateful to all of them.”

After this unfortunate turn of events, many singers came forward to express their views. Singer Chinmayi Sripaada tweeted about the whole incident and we couldn’t agree more.

When Rahman sir wins 2 Oscars and creates history, he is “An Indian”, but 7-8 Tamil gaane kya gaa liye aap naraaz hote ho. What yaar?

— Chinmayi Sripaada (@Chinmayi) 14 July 2017

The show was called ‘Netru Indru Naalai’, had 65% Hindi songs (Set List is out there). Music knows no boundaries / language.

— Chinmayi Sripaada (@Chinmayi) 14 July 2017

Chase the American dream, your kids can Spanish; Live in the UK that once colonised India –  but cry foul when a when you hear Tamil songs

— Chinmayi Sripaada (@Chinmayi) 14 July 2017

While some were irked over Rahman singing Tamil songs, his concert in New Jersey was the exact opposite and possibly filled with genuine music lovers. People broke out in cheers of ‘Encore’ even as the clock struck at 2 a.m. on Saturday morning. The audience was kicked about his performance and did not crib about him singing a couple of Tamil songs.

It is fine to have our own set of preferences or an inclination towards a particular genre of music, but disrespecting an artist becuase he played songs of a certian language is outright bizarre. It is really upsetting to see that people were disappointed over such a ridiculous thing and for all those folks who are demanding refunds, next time don’t insult music with such remarks. Instead, stay at home and listen to the songs from your USB or mobile phone.

If you talk about someone who is literally living up to his name then ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for Diljit . He’s been around in the music industry for a long time and while always had him on our play lists, it’s time to realise that he is the new ‘lit’ thing in Bollywood.

International Indian Film Academy Awards are always the most talked about event of the year and yet again since the last couple of days, social media is just flooded with IIFA updates. Well, we are sure no one is complaining; after all, who doesn’t like getting hottest updates from the event?

We bet there is not a single Bollywood lover who wouldn’t want to know about what happened at the award night and if their favourite actors bagged the award or not.

Well, since you couldn’t be there at the event in New York, we bring the updates directly from the event here to you. The event, as usual, began with some awards being announced. Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan were the host for the day and charmed everyone out there. But can we expect anything less from the two?

But it was Alia Bhatt’s opening performance that people couldn’t get over. Being her true self, she gave a full on entertaining performance, and even made her co-actor Varun Dhawan groove with her to Badrinath Ki Dulhania song. Now, who wouldn’t love to see Badri and his dulhania setting the stage on fire together?

This year was great for team Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, as they won various awards. Varun who attended IIFA for the first time didn’t return empty handed. And Alia didn’t just win one but bagged two trophies. And this just doesn’t surprise us, after all the gorgeous actress has amazed everyone with her versatile acting skills.

Anyways check out the complete list here and let us know if you agree with the jury’s decision or not.

She has already given her fans a sense of her singing ability with “Sooha saaha” and “Main tenu samjhawan”. But Alia Bhatt proved she can even rap well.

At the IIFA Rocks stage here, the talented actress came to the stage to present an award. And then the hosts Riteish Deshmukh and Maniesh Paul insisted she shows the audience a step or two.

But Alia said she would do that during her performance at the main IIFA Awards event on Saturday night.

However, she was sporting enough to offer to rap. And she did it, adding even a step or two, leading the audience to cheer on.
