Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh RajputShraddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput

If industry rumours are anything to go by, Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer ‘Chanda Mama Door Ke’ finally has a leading lady. Shraddha Kapoor, who was amongst the top contenders for the part, has been roped in to play the female lead in the Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan-directed space odyssey.

A unit hand tells mid-day, “The female lead had to be someone who is willing to take a risk. The film requires the actress to transform physically — she has to sport short hair. This was proving to be a deterrent for most actresses, who auditioned for the part, since they wouldn’t be able to do any other film at the same time. With Haseena Parkar, Shraddha has made it clear that she is up for experimental roles. She doesn’t have any inhibitions about chopping her hair for the film and is excited about the challenge.”

The film is expected to go on floors later this year. When we reached out to producer Viki Rajani and officials at Eros International, they refused to comment.

Last week we reported on Kangna Ranaut being cast as a mujrawali in her next film Rajjo. Now we hear that Kangna has been signed on to play a crime sleuth in a film tentatively titled Nikita Pai. The film which is being produced by Viki Rajani will be directed by Pawan Kriplani of Ragini MMS fame.

The film Nikita Pai will see Kangna playing a science teacher who also moonlights as an amateur detective exposing supernatural crimes. Inspirited by the crime novels Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew, the film will have Ranaut yet again playing a strong female centric lead.

Nikita Pai is set to go on the floors next year in May, with almost ninety per cent of the film being shot in Kerala.

The film is written by Rahul and Vivek Kumar.
