Yesterday, Twinkle Khanna issued an apology on social media for defending husband Akshay Kumar’s sexist comment to former co-judge Mallika Dua on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Last week, the star wife had added to the controversy by saying, “Humour should be seen in the right context.”

She had even poked fun at Mallika and her father, veteran scribe Vinod Dua. Twinkle wrote that the emotional outburst was due to the trolls, who dragged her children into the controversy.

She wrote, “I got pulled into this debate not as a social commentator, but as a wife and unlike my normal, slightly rational self (sic).” All’s well that ends well.

Akshay Kumar judges one of the comedy-reality shows on a popular television channel, with comedian Mallika Dua being one of the judges on the show. In a recent episode, Akshay Kumar had made a statement towards fellow acquaintance Mallika, which didn’t go down well with her and father Vinod Dua. The latter even slammed the actor on social media for making a ‘vulgar’ comment against her daughter. Akshay had said, “Mallika Ji aap bell bajaaiye, main aapko bajaata hoon.” Even, Mallika wrote a blog in which she penned her views about it.

This was followed by Akshay Kumar’s wife, Twinkle Khanna’s reaction. She defended him on Twitter saying, “Words, especially humour has to be seen in its right context. I have always stood up for freedom within comedy including defending AIB’s infamous roast on numerous occasions in the past and that is my stance even today. So kindly stop tagging me in this debate.” This wasn’t ending there; Vinod Dua called out the statement by Twinkle as “a prosaic excuse from an embarrassed wife.” Otherwise known for her wit, Mrs. Funnybones faced tremendous backlash on social media.

The author-actress has now posted another message on Facebook apologising for her previous comments, saying that her reaction was “purely emotional”. This is what her post reads: “Unwise Wisecracks As I reflect on my actions this past week, I realize that I got pulled into this debate not as a social commentator but as a wife and unlike my normal, slightly rational self, my reaction was purely emotional and without perspective, and I have been rather miserable about it ever since. I would like to apologize to everyone who felt that I was trivializing the cause of feminism especially because I strongly believe in equality and have been a feminist from the time I was a young woman, much before I even knew the term.

I think this came at a point where I was already reeling from an onslaught of abuse against various members of my family, which started with vicious and personal comments about my mother and went on to a widely shared open letter where the writer as a comeback for my comments about Karva Chauth tried to fling muck at every single member of my family.

So when in this latest episode regarding my husband, my five-year-old was also dragged in for something that she had absolutely nothing to do with, I reached breaking point. And with my protective instincts in overdrive, I reacted irrationally with the only tools I have that help me retain my sanity in this fishbowl existence -words and lame jokes -though they have got me into trouble often enough in the past as well. Once while embroiled in an earlier controversy (the story of my life it seems), I had written that a wise woman keeps her hands firmly in her pockets and does not accidentally unzip anything including her mouth. I am not this woman clearly, but I am going to try be a little wiser from now on.”

Despite their divorce, Sussanne Khan and Hrithik Roshan maintain cordial relations. She has stood by Hrithik during his row with Kangana Ranaut. At an event in Mumbai recently, when Sussanne was asked about the Hrithik-Kangana feud, the interior designer dodged the question.

A few weeks ago, Sussanne hit back at Kangana on social media. She posted a picture with Hrithik and responded to the allegations made by Kangana and her sister Rangoli Chandel. “There is no allegation or sad plot that can have the weight to triumph over a good soul. #powerofthetruth #mafamilia #goodoverevil,” Sussanne had written.

Sussanne’s post came after Kangana Ranaut’s appearance on TV talk show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, where she said that Hrithik should apologise to her publicly for causing her trauma after their alleged relationship ended.

The ‘Queen’ actor also said her recent comment on her ‘Krrish 3’ co-star was not a ‘promotional’ gimmick, and she would continue to talk about him and their public feud whenever she is asked about it.

Kangana brought to the fore the controversy with Hrithik, which hit headlines last year, after she called him her ‘silly ex’ in an interview, followed by the two actors slapping legal notices on each other.

Sushant is preparing since long now and even went to NASA to get additional training for the role. Will this be our answer to an ‘Insterstellar’ or ‘Gravity’? Only time will tell.

3.Padman- Trust Akshay Kumar to make feel-good movies which resonate a strong social message in it. After impressing the audience and critics alike with his latest release ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, Akshay Kumar is gearing up to release yet another film based on a social issue titled ‘Padman’. Akshay’s character in the film is based on that of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who created the first low-cost machine for making sanitary napkins. R.Balki is directing it and two strong women, Twinkle Khanna and Gauri Shinde are producing it. The hopes are pretty high for this one.

Bollywood couple Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have shared a cute video on their daughter Nitara’s fifth birthday and we bet it is going to make you smile. In the clip, Nitara is seen helping Akshay shave and the father-daughter duo will surely melt your heart. While sharing the video, Akshay Kumar wrote a heartfelt message. He said, “My favourite part of every day…my daughter shaving me at the sink, precious times, priceless moments! Happy Birthday my Princess. One request, please don’t grow up sweetheart.”

Akshay Kumar’s elder son Aarav celebrated his birthday on September 15, while the superstar himself turned 50 on September 9 this year.

On Aarav’s birthday, Akshay Kumar posted a picture of his grown-up son on Instagram. In the caption, Akshay Kumar talked about how he had taught Aarav to climb a tree, and how his son had taught him video calling. He also called Aarav his ‘favoritest human being’.

Akshay Kumar wrote, “From teaching you how to climb a tree, to learning from you how to make a video call…Happy birthday to my favoritest human being.”

For his 50th birthday, Akshay Kumar had received a precious gift from his wife Twinkle Khanna. In an exclusive interview to mid-day, Akshay Kumar revealed among the numerous gifts that he got for his big day, he said the best gift expectedly came from wife Twinkle Khanna. “She presented me two paintings she had commissioned – one, a portrait of me with my daughter [Nitara] and the other with my son [Aarav]. This is what I cherish the most,” he says, being true to the family man that he is.

On the work front, Akshay Kumar returns to the small screen after three years with ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’. His last outing was the reality show ‘Dare 2 Dance (2014). He will also be seen in ‘Padman’ alongside Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.

Since the day of its release, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ has been smashing records and the fact that it has already entered the Rs. 100 crore club further crowns this movie as the king of box office for this year. The unusual yet quirky concept was welcomed with open arms by the audience and hopefully struck the right chord with people, although his wife Twinkle Khanna’s recent post shows a different story. Having said that, although we don’t know how much of an impact the movie managed to have on humans, doggos seem to be super impressed by the movie, so much so that they have unleashed the ultimate level of toilet training.

In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Damon said “It’s great to have stars like Akshay and films like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ spotlighting the open defecation crisis, as it helps to drive more awareness of not only the issues but also what can be done to tackle this and create change.” In fact, Damon too has been actively addressing the issue of open defecation on a global level, through his non-profit organization Water.org.

Twinkle Khanna is hands down the most savage, funniest and wittiest person on Twitter, who never lets anything slide past her easily. Honestly, thanks to her and her hilarious and sarcastic remarks that even the mundane news pieces interest us. It is her sarcasm that led her and Twitter to an interesting revelation. While actor Akshay Kumar is still basking in the success of his movie ‘Toilet: Ek prem Katha’, his wife aka Mrs. Funnybones seems to have guessed the plot for the movie’s second season already. Well, not really! But if the producers and directors look at her tweet, who knows they might give it a thought.

Well, clearly it looks like it will take more than a film to change the mindset of the society when it comes to open defecation, but that the movie was made to bring about a positive in the society is what’s worth appreciating.

Having said that, the Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer movie has already entered the Rs. 100 crore Club within a few days of its release and the success is just the beginning, we don’t think the crze will fade away anytime soon. The movie talks about Keshav and Jaya who fall in love and get married. However, on her first day, she realizes that there is not a single toilet in the village and women have to go to the fields in the dark to relieve themselves. She walks out of her husband’s home and then starts Keshav’s struggle to get the love of his life back by building toilets in the village.

Twinkle’s post hinted at the lukewarm performance of films like “Jagga Jasoos” and superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jab Harry Met Sejal”.

“Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” is in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to improve sanitation conditions in the country, with an emphasis on the eradication of open defecation, especially in rural areas.

It also features Bhumi Pednekar and Anupam Kher in key roles.
