It’s Tom Struthers!

Are you confused? Okay, let me make it a little bit clearer. Before you get offended because of the comparison, we’re basically talking about one guy, the stunt coordinator for all of these movies, and many more blockbusters.

Going by his work, we can already tell he’s pretty damn cool, and it’s nice to see he is also extending his talents to Bollywood. He was the guy behind all the kickass stunts in Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. Salman had nothing but praise for Tom and in an interview, he had said, “The way Tom has designed the stunts is unbelievable. His expertise has definitely taken our film’s standard on par with Hollywood.”

Seems like the feeling is mutual and even he couldn’t stay away from our Sallu Bhai. Reportedly, Salman’s upcoming movie ‘Race 3’ will reunite the both of them. According to a source, “Tom has been roped in to choreograph the stunt sequences for the action-packed climax of the Remo D’Souza directorial. The team is currently camping in Abu Dhabi and will shoot the high-octane scenes over the next month-and-a-half.”

Well, we’re even more excited for the movie now!

But, let’s come back to Tom Struthers. Just reading about him and all the work he has done is pretty impressive. The list of films he’s worked on is very long, so I’m going to pick some of the highlights.

So, let’s see, he’s worked on ‘Batman Begins’

But except the mind-blowing chemistry between the two, what actually grabbed everyone’s attention is the stunts. Zoya 2.0 version has performed some mind-smashing stunts surprising everyone, to be honest.

Katrina (Zoya) who plays the role of an ISI agent is seen doing some amazing stunts but you will be surprised that she did it all by herself. No body-double was used.

Zafar explains, “In the sequel, we were clear that we present Tiger (Khan) and Zoya (Kaif) as a couple who choose duty over family. Anyone whose heart is in the right place would do the same and stand up for their country. The idea is to rise above daily life for the larger cause of humanity.”

The director says this also provided a connect with the audience. “When you see Tiger and Zoya as a couple, the ability to relate to their characters increases. Also, by choosing their country they are imparting values to their child. It is the duty of every parent to tell their child that they should always stand for humanity and peace.”

Whenever a Salman Khan movie hits the theatres, there’s one thing you can be sure about: it is going to break records. No matter what the plot of the movie is, or if it’s a sequel or not, the fan following of Bhai is going to flock down to the theatre to watch it and the movie would in turn become a blockbuster. And ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ was no exception.

Why, you ask?

Firstly, because it stars Bhai. (DUH!) Secondly, and most probably, because it’s the sequel to a blockbuster ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. And thirdly because who doesn’t want to see Katrina and Salman together on screen? They sure as hell make a good-looking couple.

In a matter of days, the movie has managed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark and we aren’t surprised. But like they (read: we) say, do not judge a movie by its earnings.

The movie might have broken several records but Twitter users are definitely not impressed. And you know what happens when Twitter isn’t happy? They turn savage. And by savage, we mean savage AF.

Those who weren’t satisfied with the movie reviewed it in their own brutal way.

With Rs 114.93 cr, Salman Khan sets new single-day record on Sunday With a business of Rs 45.53 crore; scores highest opener after Baahubali: The Conclusion

It was a merry Christmas for Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, who are sure to kick-start 2018 on a high note, considering Tiger Zinda Hai is ruling the box office. With a business of Rs 45.53 crore on Sunday, the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial venture set a new single-day record for Bollywood. The film raked in Rs 114.93 crore over the weekend, becoming the second highest grosser after Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which collected Rs 128 crore in its first weekend (only the Hindi dubbed version).

Khan’s Tubelight didn’t light up at the box office, but trade experts feel the superstar is back with a bang. Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi says, “Salman is critic and box-office proof. One bad film cannot deter his stardom. Everyone expected Tiger Zinda Hai to get a huge opening, but the numbers are insane.” Though the movie didn’t hit screens on a holiday, the positive word of mouth helped, says Rathi.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta feels Tiger Zinda Hai is “rewriting the box-office history in Hindi cinema”. “There is no stopping Salman and the film. Since Christmas was a holiday in India and abroad, the movie crossed Rs 150 crore on the fourth day. With the festive season and New Year next weekend, it’ll certainly earn Rs 200 crore.” Besides the film setting a record, Khan has also become the first B-Town actor to be part of 12 films that belong to the 100-crore club.

After Tubelight debacle, Salman Khan acknowledges that his mere presence doesn’t guarantee film’s success

There was a time when people would say, ‘Salman sirf khada ho jayega screen pe toh movie chal jayegi,'” Salman Khan tells mid-day during this interview. Like most stories that kick-off on that note, we understand where this one’s heading. Close on the heels of the debacle of his last outing, Tubelight, Khan acknowledges that the presence of a superstar in a film, doesn’t guarantee success anymore.

Salman

“It has been proven that no one can take stardom for granted. The casting of a star doesn’t mean the film will run. [The failure of] my last release proved that. So, there is a pressure [to perform] at all times.” Several months after Tubelight hit screens, the actor seems to have deciphered the reason behind its debacle. Having established himself as an action hero, his fans, Khan says, hate to see him teary-eyed.

“Whenever my fans watch my movie, they want to have a great time. With Tubelight, they were shocked. They were crying, hurt and disturbed, as they couldn’t digest the fact that someone was beating their Bhai, and that I was crying. So, even though they watched it in theatres, they didn’t go back again. The film lacked the repeat value that Sultan (2016) or Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) had.” That the Eid release also hit screens during the festive period was another dampner. “It’s a beautiful project, but it should not have released on a festival. I had warned people to not expect dhamaal and masti.”

He has his hopes pinned on his upcoming release, Tiger Zinda Hai. He promises that the film has enough “soul” to appeal to masses. “We already established the characters in our last film, so, taking them to the next level was not a problem. But, finding the right plot was. The film needs to have a soul, and that’s what this one has.”
