Shah Rukh Khan’s passionate speech at Davos reveals the moment that changed his life

shah-rukh-khan Shah Rukh Khan, along with actor Cate Blanchett and singer-songwriter Elton John, received awards at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Monday for the work raising awareness about human rights issues. The 52-year-old Bollywood star received the award for showing an exemplary commitment to uphold human dignity through his non-profitable Meer Foundation.

Meer Foundation provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. He has also been responsible for creating specialised children’s hospital wards and has supported childcare centres with free boarding for children undergoing cancer treatment.

It was his impassioned speech about women and child rights which had the world’s top policy makers and executives cheering for the actor. Here is SRK’s full speech from Davos…

I am genuinely and deeply grateful for this honour and it is a privilege to be in the company of two phenomenal and extraordinary human beings and talent, Cate Blanchett and Sir Elton John

She is of course a lady who commands the wind and you sir command the song of a billion hearts, including mine. I am really touched that I am chosen between these two. Just a special request, before you go, can I do a selfie? Now, there I have embarrassed my children.

Actors are renowned narcissists. No matter how much we pretend not to believe in external beauty, we tend to be obsessed by it one way or the other. And perhaps being surrounded by this obsession of beauty, a few years ago I came across a lady who had been brutalised by an acid attack. It kind of changed my life or my perspective of it, at least.

To disfigure a woman by throwing acid on her face, to me, is one of the basest, crudest acts of subjugation imaginable. At the source of it lies the view that a woman does not have the right to assert her choice, say no to the advances of a man or a group of people. And yet, each of the women I met, I found within them the courage to move on with their lives and reject the idea of victimhood. What struck me most about them was this — what was done to them only made them braver, stronger and able to free themselves, to make the choices everyone around them was telling them they could not make or should not make. From them I have learnt how courage can catalyse victimhood into heroism, how solidarity — rather than charity – enables the human will to overcome, how equality is not a concept but a truth that encompasses all living beings, how service of others is not a choice anymore for any of us but it is a duty that all of us must fulfill in the name of humankind.

When I journeyed through the life of these heroic women and children through the work of Meer Foundation, I experienced a complete reversal of perspective. I stumbled upon the truth that there are no benefactors and beneficiaries between living beings anymore. There is just a vast pool of resources – natural, spiritual, economic and technological – that everyone is equally entitled but some have gained by more access to it. Either by accident, as in my case, or by talent, design and hard work as in the case of all of you present here. Standing here before all of you who constitute perhaps the most powerful group of human beings in the world, I dare say power is one of these perspectives we like to maintain a certain way but power actually needs a complete reversal more than any other thing in the world today.

I was babysitting my five-year-old son before I came here today and suddenly he screamed, “Papa, papa my eye went into my hair. Can you get my eye out of my hair?” He didn’t say get my hair out of my eye, like we all believe we do. And it is a bit like that when you have power, you think things get in its way but it is actually power that is getting in the way.

It gets in the way of universal access to resources because it seeks to control and enclose them so we, the powerful, need to get out of the way, I think. To pick the barriers apart – the ones that give us names and colours and races and hierarchies. We need to get out of the way and into the work of breaking open access for each and every one with a true sense of ourselves but not as more powerful or less privileged, but genuinely as equals. That is what I have learned from my beautifully scarred women. I am thankful to these brave women and children who I work with for all they have done for me, to World Economic Forum and all of you present here for recognising the heroism by conferring this award upon me.

I want to thank my sister, my wife and my little daughter for bringing me up well and teaching me the value of requesting, sometimes imploring and begging a yes from a woman, instead of forcing it upon her.

Striking his famous signature pose with arms wide open in Davos, Shah Rukh re-created a DDLJ moment and transported us right back to the 90s. He captioned it saying, “Switzerland main aake yeh na kiya toh kya kiya…?” and we couldn’t agree more..

What made Shah Rukh Khan say ‘I think I’m going to have a 4th kid very soon and I’m going to name her Akanksha’?

Shah Rukh Khan joked of having a fourth child while he was shooting for ‘TedTalks India Nayi Soch’.

Shah Rukh Khan, who is hosting ‘TedTalks India – Nayi Soch’, revealed on the show that he is going to have a fourth child and will name her Akanksha. So, this is how it unfolded. A report in Pinkvilla states that SRK was asked to pronounce the name Akanksha, for which the superstar had to take multiple retakes.

Known for his wit and humour, the superstar in jest said, “I am fumbling with this name a lot and it’s really embarrassing because this never happens to me. I think I’m going to have a 4th kid very soon and I’m going to name her Akanksha.”

The 51-year-old is a father of three kids, Aryan Khan (20), Suhana Khan (17) and AbRam Khan (4). On the professional front, Shah Rukh has Aanand L Rai’s Zero, in which he plays a vertically challenged man.

Zero marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Aanand L Rai. The film further reunites the Jab Tak Hai Jaan trio of Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. The principal shoot of ‘Zero’ is ongoing and everyone is having a great time making this one of a kind film, which is touted to melt your hearts.

Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions come together to bring ‘Zero’, produced by Gauri Khan, which is all set to release by December 21st, 2018.

We all know how much he loves his kids and is protective of them. A lot of fingers were pointed at him on his news with his surrogate child AbRam Khan, to which King Khan came out in the open and spoke about it confidently.

We hear that he is planning to have a 4th child.

While shooting for the upcoming episode, SRK was made to say ‘Akanksha’ to which he fumbled a lot of times leading to multiple retakes.

To this he joking exclaimed, “I am fumbling with this name a lot and it’s really embarrassing because this never happens to me. I think I’m going to have a 4th kid very soon and I’m going to name her Akanksha.”

Staying glamorous by not over-doing the make-up is still a deal to crack, which the teenager has cleverly cracked. The perfectly tailored traditional wear did wonders to accentuate her look. If we analyse Suhana’s fashion appearances, she’s never given the fashion police the chance to use their strict wands.

Shah Rukh Khan has his New Year’s Day treat ready for his fans. He has announced the title of Aanand L Rai’s film. The movie, which will see Shah Rukh in a never-seen-before avatar — reportedly as a dwarf — also features Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif and is titled ‘Zero’.

Shah Rukh and Rai engaged in banter over the pending announcement on Twitter. The actor asked the filmmaker about when should the title be announced, and they reached a conclusion to give it out to the fans at 5 p.m. on Monday. The banter unfolded with a series of sketched images of Shah Rukh and Rai, who have collaborated for the first time for this project. The teaser of the film left everyone stumped as they saw SRK in the getup of a dwarf. The movie pays homage to a number of Bollywood movies and seems to be set in the 70s. The backdrop of the film also seems to be that of Bollywood, especially the era of Rafi songs and Shammi Kapoor’s dance moves. At the end of the teaser, SRK has a quirky and funny monologue – ‘Hum Jiske Piche Pad Jaate Hai Uski Life Bana Dete Hain’. SRK as a dwarf looks extremely adorable and endearing at the same time. The movie is slated for a December 2018 release.

Twinkle Khanna takes a jibe at Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s infamous comment on Pakistani teen activist Malala Yousafzai winning a Nobel prize

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone likely to star in Bhansali’s next film

Shah Rukh Khan last collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in one of the classic Hindi film Devdas which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit in pivotal roles. As per the reports by a leading Indian entertainment portal, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shah Rukh Khan are likely to collaborate once again, as they have found an apt script to work together.

Buzz is that they might start the shooting of the film next year after the release of Padmavati. As per the reports, Deepika Padukone has been approached by Bhansali to play the lead role.

If reports turn out to be true, then this will mark the onscreen reunion of Deepika Padukone with Shah Rukh Khan for the third time. They were last seen together in the film Happy New Year and Chennai Express.

On the other hand, it was also reported that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is planning to make a movie on the life of the famous poet Sahir Ludhianvi, however, the reports turned out to be false.

Shah Rukh Khan is currently shooting for Aanand L Rai’s untitled film which also has Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. The film is scheduled to release next year during Christmas. Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma were last seen together in the film Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh will have a new release date. CBFC board is yet to certify the film. According to reports, the film will be reviewed by CBFC members and historians.

Recently, the amazing mother-daughter duo attended a party at the Cirque Le Soir club in Delhi. Being the celebrity interior designer that she is, Gauri Khan designed the luxurious sets for the Cirque Le Soir club. Suhana Khan looked resplendent in her off-shoulder black trail dress paired with formal shorts. Gauri, too, looked chic in her camouflage jacket and pants, paired with white stilettos.

Gauri Khan took to her Instagram account and shared a picture of Suhana with her friend. She captioned the picture, “All grown up .. young adults (sic).”

Talking about Suhana foraying in Bollywood, daddy Shah Rukh Khan had once said that they were free to choose their line of work, but only after completing their education.

Inside Photos: Taimur Ali Khan looks adorable in uncle Ranbir Kapoor's arms

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and the entire Kapoor clan was present at their annual Christmas brunch held at the Late Shashi Kapoor’s residence. However, it was Taimur who stole the show

The year 2017 for Bollywood has been all about star kids. The celebrities offsprings attracted more limelight and attention on social media and by their fans. Be it Shah Rukh Khan‘s son AbRam Khan, Shahid Kapoor’s Misha, Rani Mukerji’s Adira, Kunal Kemmu’s Inaaya- these celebrities in their own way have dominated the social media. However, one munchkin that has adapted easily to the paparazzi culture and responds the shutterbugs in his own unique style is Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan’s child- Taimur Ali Khan.

Like an every year norm, the Kapoors celebrated Christmas with a brunch at the Late Shashi Kapoor’s Juhu residence. A ritual started by Shashi Kapoor’s wife Jennifer Kendal more than three decades back. When she passed away in 1984, Shashi continued hosting it at his residence to unite the entire Kapoor family under one roof for one day in the year. Talking to mid-day, Randhir Kapoor shared that they are going to continue with this tradition and remember fond memories of his uncle, Shashi Kapoor.

Carrying the legacy forward, the late veteran actor’s son Kunal and Karan hosted the brunch. This noon gave us some of the beautiful clicks of the entire Kapoor family. We saw Taimur taking small baby steps with mother Kareena and father Saif beside him. The inside pictures from the brunch clearly state that Taimur was the man of the party and stole the show from everyone. The little lad was at his jovial best as he played with his uncles Ranbir Kapoor, Aadar Jain and Armaan Jain.
