Filmmaker Kabir Khan says he is happy to see Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and actress Katrina Kaif back together on the big screen in the upcoming film ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’

kabir khan

Kabir Khan, who helmed the 2012 blockbuster ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, says he is excited to see Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif on celluloid with the film’s upcoming sequel ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’.

The director said it is a great franchise and he is confident the second installment will do well commercially. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the movie is set to release on December 22. “It (‘Tiger Zinda Hai’) is superb, it is looking absolutely fantastic. It is a great franchise, it will do really well. The excitement is already there. “It is great to see Salman and Katrina back together, that chemistry that was so evident five years ago, it is as palpable even today. And Ali has only taken it to a bigger level. It is looking lovely,” Kabir told PTI.

Kabir, however, maintained that comparisons between the two films should be avoided. “Every director brings his own vision. There should be no comparisons between the two films. This is a separate film. They have their own dynamics.”It was Kabir who created the characters of the Indian spy Tiger (Salman) and Pakistani spy, Zoya, played by Katrina Kaif. The filmmaker said he is not keen on taking the franchise ahead as he does not believe in the idea of sequels. “I am not sure about(doing) ‘Tiger’ franchise, it has already moved forward. I don’t do sequels. I might do somebody else’s sequels. Out of all the characters that I have created Tiger is one such (part) which should be taken forward and I am glad it is being taken ahead.

“I myself, don’t know if I will ever do sequels, but never say never. I was asked about taking ahead ‘New York’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. Till now sequels don’t really excite me. In a certain sense, I have a closure with characters with the story, so I don’t get excited of taking them ahead.” Kabir was talking on the sidelines of the launch of actor-politician Bina Kak’s photo book, “Silent Sentinels of Ranthambhore” last evening. The book was released by Salman and Katrina.

It was a lovely view on a Wednesday afternoon to see the entire team of the 1983 Indian Cricket Team, who brought the World Cup home, in one frame. The moment of winning the trophy was recreated by the Captain of the team-Kapil Dev along with the reel captain Ranveer Singh, who celebrated the victory and announcement of the film ’83 by splashing champagne.

At the official announcement of Ranveer Singh signed on-board to play the dynamic Captain Kapil Dev, he was all smitten by the infectious energy in the air created by the cricket legends. Ecstatic about the association, the ‘Befikre’ boy said, “How am I going to do this!?” He added, “It’s my honour and privilege to do this film.” The cricket buff himself, Ranveer was fascinated by watching the legends who got India its first Cricket World Cup.

Host Gaurav Kapur revealed that the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actor was so excited meeting the cricketers that he clicked selfies with everyone and said, ‘In excitement I might throw up.’ “My generation always thought that cricket was always big. It was so shocking and surprising to learn that these gentlemen had to rise against the odds,” stated Ranveer Singh. He voted, “If you’re born in this country, then cricket has to be in your blood.”

Former Captain Kapil Dev also shared some amazing memories from the 1983 World Cup Tour. He said, “No one can say that I haven’t made any mistake. I have made many. I had a ‘fitoor’ (passion) of winning, half way through the tour we realised that we are a team. I wasn’t the captain, everyone was the captain. Everybody played really well. I really thank Kabir Khan for making a film on it. Lot of stories will come out, we’ll be embarrassed and happy also. We realised ourselves during the tour of ’83. Handling these characters( cricket team) was very difficult. it’s impossible to find such characters. We are missing Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and Syed Kirmani over here. I apologise on their behalf but I believe they are doing better jobs right now.”

’83’ is being helmed by Kabir Khan and talking about the importance of this film in his life, Kabir shared, “I feel blessed that I’ve got the opportunity to narrate this story. It should never be forgotten. I was a school kid when I watched that match. There’s one story which is very close to a filmmaker, where he puts his everything. ’83 is that movie for me. When I went back to school after watching the match, I felt very proud because we had Kirti Azad in our school. Through this film I want to make my son feel as proud as I was as a young kid.”

Making biopics on sports legend has become a norm in the industry. Earlier, Sushant Singh Rajput pulled off former Indian Cricket Team’s captain- Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which shattered the Box-Office with its collection. It would be interesting to see Ranveer Singh pull off a Kapil Dev.

salman-khanAfter featuring together in Lucky: No Time For Love, Veer and Maine Pyaar Kyu Kiya, the Khan brothers came together for the much-anticipated movie, Tubelight. Sohail Khan who doesn’t feature in too many Bollywood films was way more than happy when director Kabir Khan approached him for the role in his film.

Though the movie might not have opened to spectacular box office collection, the brothers are extremely satisfied with the film. There were also a few fans who wanted to see more of Salman and Sohail Khan together, in one frame than what was shown.

Talking about their screen-time in DNA, Sohail Khan revealed:

“There was a lot more, for sure. What we shot together, Salman bhai and I, or even what was narrated in the script. Later, Kabir decided to cut it down. Which is fine because the film was not made to celebrate Salman bhai’s brotherhood with me. So no complaints. I am very happy with the film and with the time Bhai and I shared in it.”

Salman Khan starrer Tubelight has collected a total of Rs 95 crore, a first for him, considering he makes Rs 100 crore during the opening weekend, especially when it’s Eid.

When Karan Arjun shares screen space together, Bollywood buffs are bound to love it. After all, who doesn’t want to see the two favourite Khans bromancing each other?

Ever since these two biggies have joined hands again, fans just can’t get enough of them. It has been almost 15 years since we saw the two sharing screen space together. A lot has happened between the two—from sharing a strong bond to breaking up their ties, the duo has gone through a lot of conflicts. However, when the need arises, these two are there for each other, letting go of their past.

Recently, King Khan did a cameo in Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’. SRK played a magician who plays a very vital part in developing Laxman (Salman). Salman Khan shared that when director Kabir Khan narrated the film, he just knew that Shah Rukh Khan had to play that role. It was just a call and without any discussion, SRK gave a heads-up for the role. Watching the two was indeed a treat and there is a possibility that they might reunite again on the silver screen very soon.

Well, if reports are to be believed, Salman Khan will be playing a cameo in Aanand L Rai’s next, where Shah Rukh will be seen playing a dwarf. The film also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.

Speaking to DNA, SRK said, “There is a guest appearance in Aanand’s film that I’d like Salman to consider. We are still working on it. But, I would like him to play the role.”

Now isn’t that really good news for bhai fans? It is believed that Salman might be playing himself in the film but Badshah is not ready to spill the beans yet and prefers to keep it a secret till the end. Definitely, this is just making us more curious. Well, keeping our fingers crossed!

When it comes to Shah Rukh Khan, everything we say is less. The man literally redefined the meaning of romance and there is no one who can replace him.

In 1992 when he made his debut, little did we know that one day he would rule millions of heart. From that dimpled smile to his charm, there is nothing that doesn’t flatter us.

He started his journey with ‘Deewana’ and soon took over the industry becoming its ‘badshah’. He changed the face of Hindi cinema forever, creating films that every generation has loved.

It’s not just his acting but the way he says those dialogues that make us skip a beat. We bet there is no soul on earth who hasn’t used his lines once in their lifetime.

For Indians, Salman Khan isn’t just a superstar. He’s a demigod. His fans worship him. Bhai is more than just a craze, who makes it big at the box office with every film. ‘Dabangg’, ‘Sultan’, and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ left everyone impressed but can the same be said about his most-anticipated film ‘Tubelight’?

This Bollywood adaptation of ‘Little Boy’ is set in Jagatpur, a small town in North India. The plot revolves around the two brothers with the Indo-China war as the backdrop. Laxman (Salman Khan) is a simple gold-hearted man but people call him ‘Tubelight’ due to his low IQ and child-like behaviour. Narayan (Mohd Zeeshan) is one of the locals who poke fun at him and even slaps him without any reason. Bharat (Sohail Khan) is Laxman’s brother whom he loves immensely. However, Bharat has to leave the village as he joins the Indian Army during the Indo-China war. Manne Chacha (Om Puri), during that time, teaches Laxman about the importance of Gandhi’s philosophy and ideology. Liling (Zhu Zhu) and Guo (Matin Rey Tangu) play the Chinese immigrants who are obviously the reason for the problems as per the villagers.

Playing on the Hindi-Chini sentiment, the film tries to make a point that love conquers all if you have hope. But does the film conquer reviewers as well?

Kabir Khan and Salman Khan mess it up BIG TIME

Tubelight Movie Review And Rating Featuring Salman Khan© Salman Khan Films

Even a filmmaker like Kabir Khan can have his bad days and ‘Tubelight’ is one such proof for him. The director, who is known for creating films that have a much deeper meaning and leave a great impact on his viewers, leaves us heavily disappointed with this film. Remember ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, which made us so emotional that we couldn’t help but shed some tears? Well, ‘Tubelight’ is nowhere close to it.

This Eid, give this a miss!

In B-town, Eid belongs to Bhaijaan. In fact, #SalmanKiEid starts trending before the release of his films. But unfortunately, this Eid doesn’t belong to Sallu. ‘Little Boy’ failed to impress its viewers in the West and similarly, ‘Tubelight’ has all the elements of disappointment for us this side. So how about you spend some time with your family instead of heading to the theatre this Eid?

Tubelight tries to emotionally manipulate you

Tubelight Movie Review And Rating Featuring Salman Khan© Salman Khan Films

Kabir Khan uses emotion as a tool to move Indian viewers. And certainly, Indians do love their emotions, drama, and tears. We definitely love a fully packed film that makes us shed tears but that doesn’t mean we will shed tears seeing Salman cry every other second in the film! The makers shamelessly try to turn you into a sentimental wreck who will sob looking at Salman breaking down but it ain’t happening this time, Kabir!

Half a star for trying but that’s it

‘Tubelight’ flickers and flickers and flickers, but fails to light up even at the credits. By the intermission you are left bored and beaten. This is certainly not what you envision when you think about Salman and Kabir, as the two of them have worked their charm before. The whole problem with the film is its plot– it’s unpolished, where either things fall out of context or they fail to make any point. But still, we’ve got to give the makers of the film half a star for at least trying.

The tagline ‘Kya tumhe yakeen hai?’

Tubelight Movie Review And Rating Featuring Salman Khan© Salman Khan Films

The tagline of the film is ‘Kya tumhe yakeen hai?’, (Do you have hope?). Well, we  guarantee you by the end of the film, you will lose all hope and wonder what did you just watch.

Matin Rey Tangu, Zhu Zhu, and late Om Puri are the stars

Tubelight Movie Review And Rating Featuring Salman Khan© Salman Khan Films

Matin, the little boy in the film, takes away all the focus from Salman. In fact, when he shares on-screen space with Salman is the only time you feel for the main hero of the film. Matin is extremely cute and shines throughout the film, making tons of fans in the process. Zhu Zhu has limited screen presence but makes it a point that you fall for her every time she appears on screen. The late Om Puri’s performance is spot on as well, and will stay with us for a very long time.

Well, Sohail Khan proves his acting skill

Tubelight Movie Review And Rating Featuring Salman Khan© Salman Khan Films

When one Khan brother lets you down, another shines, taking you by surprise. Salman’s delivery and acting in the film is too difficult to digest. In fact, he gets on your nerves with his child-like acts. To put it mildly, and to quote ‘Tropic Thunder’, he went ‘full retard’. Every time he cries, you feel exhausted, it’s something to do with that face he makes that annoys you. Putting it simply, Salman’s shoddy performance works in favour of his brother Sohail, giving him the space to shine.

The Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai sentiment

Well, who doesn’t love it when it all ends well? Using the Hindi-Chini relationship to make a concrete point, Kabir Khan tries his level best. But leaves you with the only sentiment that is Hindi-Chini Bye Bye. The entire thing backfires, big time.

MensXP verdict

What happens when the main hero isn’t convincing enough? A film like ‘Tubelight’ is born. It is an obvious fact that the ardent fans of Salman may forgive him and the maker for delivering such a film, but not EVERY person is a Salman fan. Please note that the 1962 war was a lost cause for India and so is the film. And you don’t have to be a ‘Tubelight’ to figure this one out. Watch this film only if your love for Salman is unconditional.

P.S. Wondering why a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan was required in the film? Well, we will get back to you once we figure it out!

tubelight-still3With Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Kabir Khan putting immense effort in making sure Tubelight gets a massive opening, the Hindi film industry saw some of the most innovative and unusual promotional gimmicks.

Tubelight themed emojis, GIFs, child actor Matin Tangu stealing the spotlight with his innocence and a jovial Salman Khan cycling on the streets of Mumbai – all these have been a part of a larger exercise, aimed at creating as much buzz about the film as possible.

However, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, who stars in the film opposite Salman, has not been part of the promotions. According to Bollywoodlife.com, the Chinese government has its reservations about the film since it is based on the Indo-China War.

Earlier, there were many conjectures about Zhu Zhu’s absence from the promotional events.

It was being said that the actress is busy with other films in China. However, as per the same Bollywoodlife report the Chinese officials are unsure about their country being projected in the right light in the Kabir Khan film. Therefore, Zhu Zhu has been asked to not participate in the film’s promotional activities.

This move comes as a surprise after Chinese President Xi Jinping told Narendra Modi that he watched the film and liked it. After Dangal’s humongous success in China, it will be interesting to see how Tubelight is received by the Chinese. The film releases on 23 June, 2017.

salmansohailActor Sohail Khan, who will be seen with his superstar brother Salman Khan in the forthcoming movie “Tubelight”, says he never felt overshadowed by his sibling on screen.

In “Tubelight”, they are playing on screen brothers.

Asked if he had any pressure to match up his performance and screen presence with Salman, Sohail told IANS here: “No, I never felt overshadowed by (Salman) bhai, because in this film, he is not playing ‘The Salman Khan’. Maybe in audience’s mind, he is a hero, but he did not act that way.

“In fact, I believe that whether it is Salman Khan or even any character actor, you should not compete in a scene to get more eyeballs or feel insecure. The moment you try any of that, you spoil the scene. I, as an actor, only focus on my part. The rest automatically falls in place,” he added.

While the film is an emotional journey of two brothers, and the story is set in the 1960s, according to Sohail, director Kabir Khan has created a beautiful world that played an important part in helping them execute their performance.

“When we went to the set, we felt like we are standing in the 1960s’ era. For a performer, that is important. Kabir has an eye for detailing and the team of production and set designers also have done a great job. Since I am a film producer too, working with this kind of a good filmmaker makes me learn so much that later I utilise it in my productions,” Sohail said.

Having made his acting debut with the film “Maine Dil Tujhko Diya”, Sohail has produced films like “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya”, “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?”, “Partner” and “Jai Ho”, apart from being a director.

Sohail has grown up in a film environment — his father is veteran scriptwriter Salim Khan, and most of his family members too are associated with the movie business.

Can he still watch a film like a common audience member since he is very much an insider in the process of filmmaking?

“Oh yes, absolutely. I always judge a film on its overall impact at the first place, because I see no point of scrutinising a film by some of its parts. What if the story is not good, but the cinematography is? What if the acting is good but the film does not create any impact or give the audience a ‘paisa vasool’ experience?

“What if the music is good but the scenes are bad? For me, a film is good, if it is overall good and give you (audience) a wholesome experience,” said Sohail.
“Tubelight” is releasing on Friday.

Ahead of the release of his film ‘Tubelight’, actor Salman Khan is busy with promotions and has been participating in various media events. However, at a recent press conference, it wasn’t Khan but his youngest co-actor, 8-year-old Matin Rey Tangu, who stole the show and our hearts with his innocent comments.

‘Tubelight' Child Actor Gives A Fitting Response To A Reporter© Salman Khan Films

We are not trying to start any racial debate here, but time and again people from the North East are made to feel that they aren’t a part of India. Recently, Matin too found himself at the center of such discussions and taught the much-needed general knowledge lessons to even the adults. Matin who hails from Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, was asked by a reporter whether he has come to India for the first time. Matin who looked clearly confused by this question asked the reporter to ask the question again. After Salman explained the question to him, he understood what the question really meant and answered the same in an innocent yet the most badass manner.

Matin said, “Hum India par hi rehte hai to India par aege hi kaise?” (I live in India, so how will I come to India?”) This one line has won our hearts and now all we can wish for is a society where one does not get racially discriminated. The audience was smitten by his answer and start applauding him. Set in the 1962 Sino-Indian war, Kabir Khan’s directorial venture is releasing on June 23rd. It also stars Chinese actress Zhu Zhu and Sohail Khan.
