'Tumhari Sulu' Trailer: Vidya's Transformation From A 'Saree Wali Bhaabhi' To Late Night RJ Is Incredible

The trailer for the much awaited ‘Tumhari Sulu’ is out and the film looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun. From Vidya’s vivacious style to her sultry voice, she totally steals the show with a spot on performance that keeps your eyes glued to the screen and a smile that never leaves your face.

The clip shows Vidya in a totally new avatar as the titular ‘Saree Wali Bhaabhi’ Sulu, who has her own dreams and wants to be more than just a housewife.

It is exactly that dream that helps us relate to her character in the film. She is a regular caller at a local radio station and has won a ton of prizes. But one day she spots a chance to be an RJ herself and Neha Dhupia, the radio producer, gives her a shot and sets her off on her journey of self -discovery.

And, that’s not all; we also get a reprised version of a hit song, ‘Hawa Hawai’ from Mr. India that is still as peppy and catchy as we first heard it. Manav Kaul plays Vidya’s husband and the filmmakers have also roped in RJ Maliksha in a pivotal role in the film.

This will be Vidya’s second release this year after ‘Begum Jaan’. The film didn’t fare particularly well with both critics and fans and it will be interesting to see if ‘Tumhari Sulu’ is a hit or a miss at the box office. Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film is set to hit theatres on November 17th. Check out the trailer below:

In a recent interview with a Pakistani Daily, she stated, “I started working the same year when Indian channels got banned in Pakistan and Priyanka became Miss World. I remember, I was hosting a show back then and everyone thought it was Priyanka and not me. It’s been this way ever since that time. I bet even Priyanka knows about me by now.”

“I’m comfortable with my body and if a scene genuinely demands nudity, I don’t mind it. As long as it’s for the scene and not to titillate the audience, I am okay. Be it LSD, Shahid or now Omerta, these are all very powerful scenes in extremely relevant contexts,” Raj told Deccan Chronicle.

A. R. Rahman to celebrate 25 years in music by going on a four city tour

After marking his 25th year in the music industry with the August release, One Heart: The AR Rahman Concert Film — a compilation of his 14-city US tour — the musician is set to connect with his fans in India with a four-city show. The Academy Award-winner will take AR Rahman ‘Encore – The Concert’, to Hyderabad (November 26), Ahmedabad (December 3), Mumbai (December 17) and Delhi (December 23), marking his first solo gig in the country in five years.

Reflecting on his journey in the industry, Rahman tells mid-day, “Music serves as a spiritual bond between the audience and myself. I am excited about performing at home after such a long gap. These 25 years have been incredible. The almighty has been kind in giving me happiness that has multiplied year-after-year. From a husband and father, to a composer and mentor, I have embraced different roles, but music has been a constant.”

Given the massive fan-following that Rahman enjoys, the biggest stars of the industry are being considered for supporting acts, with a source close to the musician adding that the names of Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth and Priyanka Chopra are being tossed around. “The who’s who of the film fraternity will come together to celebrate the occasion. Several international technicians have also been hired for the tour,” the source says.

India’s star shuttler P.V. Sindhu will be seen on the hot seat of popular game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC). Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he had an extraordinary meeting with her. Amitabh, who called it “an honour and a moment of great pride” to be in Sindhu’s company, also shared a few photographs of himself with her on his blog on Thursday.

“The icing on the cake would have to be this extraordinary meeting with the World Champion and pride of India,” he wrote beneath a photograph featuring him with Sindhu.

In another image, the “Piku” star can be seen with folded hands.

He wrote: “This is the best that one can do in front of her (Sindhu’s) greatness and her multiple achievements .. God bless you P. V. Sindhu and may you continue to bring greater glory to our nation.”

Mithali Raj & Many Other Indian Women Named In The 2017 List Of BBC's 100 Most Influential Women

Here’s some great new for all Mithali Raj fans out there! The young Indian cricket team captain, who led India’s cricket team to the finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup, in England, earlier this year, has been credited as one of the most influential women in India by the BBC, in their ‘100 most influential women’ list.

The list is basically a collection of women, from all over the world, from different walks of life, who have been positive influencers in society. The list is mainly inspired by the BBC 100 Women Challenge and includes women who have tackled some of the biggest problems facing women around the world. The challenge will be held in New Delhi from October 9-13, where a team formed will look into female illiteracy. The challenge is happening all around the world, where different teams are formed to tackle the issues and challenges surrounding the particular place. Other places hosting the 100 Women Challenge are Silicon Valley, where the group will tackle the glass ceiling. Nairobi and London teams will focus on improving safety in public transports and finally Rio’s team will work towards sexism in sports (we need a debate or two about that, in India!).

It’s a moment of pride for us as our very own highest run-scorer in the ODIs is considered as a top influencer along with some more Indian women. The others who made it on the list are – Ira Trivedi: writer, yoga teacher and an activist, Aditi Avasthi: founder and CEO of Embibe, Tulika Kiran: She has been teaching kids at Tihar jail for the past 8 years, Mehroonisa Siddiqui: mother of Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Dr. Urvashi Sahni: Women’s right activist and educationist.

The whole idea of pushing society towards recognising talent amongst women is much needed in the new world order. We’re not saying men don’t qualify for such a list but more often than not, women are undermined for their achievements in various fields and this list just puts their efforts out there. Women speaking out on issues concerning public spheres and actively working towards rectifying these issues, hence, is a challenge that needs sole recognistion and we’re more than happy that the BBC has defined a promising way to do so!

Priyanka disappointed about Newton selection over Ventilator for the Oscars

Rajkumar Rao’s recently released ‘Newton’ made headlines when the story broke about film’s selection as the official entry to Oscars 2018 from India. While this news is making everyone happy there is someone who is little disappointed with jury’s decision – Priyanka Chopra.

Priyanka and her mother Madhu Chopra’s Marathi production, ‘Ventilator’ was amongst the 26 entries competing in the race to the Oscars this year.

‘Ventilator’, directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, gained very good critical and commercial success. The film has won three awards at 64th National Film Awards. Priyanka was optimistic about the film to make it to Oscars 2018, but left with disoppinment as it got snubbed with the selection of Amit Masurkar’s another social drama, ‘Newton’.

Rajesh Mapuskar told DNA, “I told her not to worry, assuring her that only the best film would make it. We were a bit disappointed when we learnt about the verdict, the next day.”

He further added about Priyanka that, “I guess, Priyanka must be even more disappointed because she was always ambitious about the film. Had it been selected, she would have ensured that it was the most-talked-about film in the run to the Oscars, especially since she is already an established name there. Ventilator was always the favourite baby of their banner.”

The 90th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles on 4 March 2018
