Movies based on sports and sporting stars have become the latest fad in Bollywood and rightly so. The stories of our country’s sportsmen and women are nothing short of inspiring. The amount of hard work and dedication that goes into winning a laurel for the country definitely deserves to be brought to the limelight.

And when we talk about limelight, Ranveer Singh sure likes to stay in it. The ever-so-energetic star has jumped on the bandwagon of stepping into a sports star’s shoes. Becoming the latest actor to join the sports movie club, Ranveer is all set to play the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan’s next movie.

The movie would be based on India’s victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup when India played against West Indies in the finals and defeated the champions West Indies. It has been in news quite often because of the confusion that surrounded the choice of actor for Kapil’s character.

Earlier, rumors of Arjun Kapoor (who happens to be very good friends with Ranveer) playing the role were doing the rounds.

However, Trade Analyst and Movie critic, Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter to announce the latest news. His tweet read, “#BreakingNews: Ranveer Singh will turn cricketer #KapilDev in Kabir Khan’s sports-based film… #1983 #WorldCup.”

The movie will be written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan while ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ director Kabir Khan will be behind the direction wheel.

It’ll be co-produced by Phantom Films and the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who also confirmed the news in an interview, “Yes, I am trying to make this film since the last three-and-a-half years and I have now got a combination of Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan. Ranveer Singh is playing Kapil Dev’s role and it’s a bigger movie now.”

Talking about why he deems Ranveer fit for the role, he further said, “With his energy and passion, we feel that Ranveer is a perfect fit to play Kapil Dev, one of the greatest sporting legends India has ever produced.”

Vikramaditya Motwane of Phantom Films seconds him and said, “If any actor can do it, it’s Ranveer.”

Kapil Dev has served as an inspiration for budding cricketers across the country. Although this film will focus on the Indian team’s  journey to win the cup, and not particularly on Kapil or any other sportsperson, his character holds quite a lot of weightage as he was then the captain of the Indian Cricket Team.

Ranveer is currently prepping up for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati in which he is playing Alauddin Khilji.

For anyone and everyone associated with the film industry, winning the Academy Award aka the Oscar is the ultimate goal. The Indian Film industry obviously doesn’t like lagging behind either.  Every year, The Film Federation of India appoints a committee to choose one film among those released that year to be submitted as India’s official entry to the Academy as the nomination for the “Best Foreign Language Film” category.

This year too, the FFI nominated one movie for the category and unsurprisingly, it’s the Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Newton’.  The announcement was made by the Film Federation of India, who said the movie was selected out of 26 contenders.

The movie is a political satire and follows the story of Newton Kumar, a government clerk who is sent on election duty in the conflict-ridden jungles of the Chhattisgarh, reflecting the political reality of that area.

The film was premiered earlier at Berlin where it won the CICAE (International Confederation of Art Cinemas) award for best film in the forum section. It also managed to win a jury prize at the Hong Kong international film festival.

However, in India the movie has just released today and has already received positive reviews from both critics as well as the audience.

The news about the nomination was confirmed by Rajkummar Rao on his Twitter page.

Very happy to share this news that #NEWTON is India’s official entry to the #OSCARS this year. Congratulations team.

— Rajkummar Rao (@RajkummarRao) September 22, 2017

Director Amit V Masurkar, in an interview, expressed his joy over the news, “We are really happy. The fact that the film is releasing today doubles the happiness. We hope that people will now really head to the cinema halls to watch the film,” the director told PTI.

In a matter of a few hours, Twitter was buzzing with tweets of proud Indians who were on cloud nine after hearing the news.

Huge congrats to my favourite actor @RajkummarRao for Newton n hope you win the Oscar ! Good luck .

Over the years, India has bagged three Academy Award nominations in the foreign-language category; first in 1957 with ‘Mother India’, followed by 1989’s ‘Salaam Bombay’ and 2002’s ‘Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India’, however, the country has never won an Oscar.

This year, Newton will face serious competition from a number of movies from across the world- Ruben Ostlund’s ‘The Square’ from Sweden, Fatih Akin’s ‘In the Fade from Germany’, Angelina Jolie’s ‘First They Killed My Father from Cambodia’, Sebastian Lelio’s ‘A Fantastic Woman from Chile’, Farhan Alam’s ‘Sawan from Pakistan’ and Robin Campillo’s ‘BPM: Beats Per Minute from France’, among others.

We’ve got our fingers crossed as we hope that ‘Newton’ does make it to the Oscar nominations and maybe, even manages to win.

When the first installment of the ‘Golmaal’ released over 10 years ago, no one could have predicted the amount of success it would achieve. Since the first installment managed to leave everyone in laughing fits and of course, nobody minds a good laugh, the movie went on to became everyone’s favorite. So the directors and the producers decided to jump on the success by releasing more installments in the ‘Golmaal’ franchise and that’s pretty much what the audience needed.

Although the next two parts didn’t fare as well as the first one in the box office, fans of the series eagerly awaited the next part. The fandom is so strong that ‘Golmaal’ is the seventh highest grossing film series in Bollywood.

If we talk about the gist of the movie series, the story revolves around the lives of four (five from the third film) friends Gopal, Lucky, Madhav and Laxman who some way or the other, happen to have a ton of comical incidents taking place in their life which usually ends with something dramatic and insane!

Yesterday, Ajay Devgn shared a few posters of ‘Golmaal Again’ on his Instagram, putting an end to the misery of the fans as he said that the trailer would release the next day.

The posters provided us with a hint of the fourth installment being a horror comedy. And now judging by the trailer, we can see that it stands true to the film’s tagline–“Iss Diwali Logic Nahi Sirf Magic”.

Starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Parineeti Chopra, Kunal Kehmu, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor, Golmaal Again is all set to make our Diwali better.

Have a look at the trailer:

Back with its witty dialogues and star cast, the movie sure looks like a blockbuster.

Apart from the new storyline and the cast members, there’s a twist in Shreyas Talpade’s character too. In the last film, his character Laxman, stammered and this time his character will be seen with a lisp. Shreyas said an interview, “Considering all of us are getting extra sensitive about little things… this time, he is not stammering. There is another quirk to his character. He’s got a slight lisp.”

In case you are still worried that the fourth installment might not be as hilarious as the previous ones, Arshad Warsi has promised new jokes in the fourth film. “Had they been boring I would have been fed up. Here there’s no space to feel like that. This time too we have new jokes and skits.”

The wait for ‘Golmaal Again’ will end next month as the movie is set for a Diwali release i.e. 20th October.

Netflix has been working on ‘The Punisher’ solo series for quite some time now. Owing to the great response that the character’s appearance in the second season of ‘Daredevil’ received, the streaming giant decided to make this Marvel hero’s (or should we say anti-hero) fans happier, but details about the same were unexpectedly kept under wraps.

Except for some cryptic hints and messages in the form of short video snippets, Netflix didn’t reveal much, not even the expected release date.

But now, Netflix suddenly dropped the series’ first full trailer and gave us an idea as to what to expect from the series- blood, violence, explosions, a ton of guns.

We see the character of Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, who was recently seen in Daredevil’s second season as a heartbroken man, with a brutal mission. The trailer shows everything that he’s been through which releases the beast inside, hinting at the comic-book character’s origin story.

Full trailer of ‘The Punisher' and it is pretty violent© Netflix

“They killed my family to get to me,” he says. “I was a part of a covert CIA operation. The man in charge wants me dead. Homeland, the FBI, everybody’s a part of this.”

Metallica’s ‘One’ plays in the background as Castle prepares to avenge his family’s murder.

From what we can see, the series might be more dark and brutal than Netflix has teased it as being.

Even Bernthal confirmed this in an interview when he said that the show will see Frank go to an even darker place, and will take the story to somewhere it hasn’t been before:

“The show takes you on this journey of Frank becoming more and more human again and then shutting off and shutting off and going back to what works for him, and the place where he kind of belongs and I think that’s a place of solitude and of darkness and destruction. It’s going to get into as dark and as brutal places as you’ve ever seen in the Marvel world, I can promise you that.”

To get into the shoes of the character, Bernthal said he stayed fairly isolated during filming, and wanted to be authentic to the gravity of the character.

But alas, the exact release date still hasn’t been released; however the show does appear to be coming soon, sometime in 2017 only.

Salman Khan is known for going out of his way to give a golden chance to those who are talented enough to become the next Bollywood star. Athiya Shetty, Daisy Shah, Zarine Khan… the list is pretty long.   And let’s face it, who wouldn’t like a superstar like him to be their guiding figure in the otherwise inaccessible Bollywood industry?

If you too are a budding actor or actress, then here’s some news that will not only make your day, but might even give a much needed boost to your career.

Salman Khan took to his Twitter account to make a rather special announcement. He said that his production house, SKF, is looking for a fresh female face for their upcoming venture.

His tweet read, “The first talent we r looking for is d female lead for SKF’s next venture. All the best jaldi se profile bhejo bit.ly/BeingInTouch (3/3).”

His tweet managed to make his female fans go into frenzy. But the good news doesn’t end here.

For his male fans too, ample of opportunities will be coming soon in the near future, thanks to his app -BeingInTouch.

Last year, on the occasion of his 51st birthday, Salman released a treat for his fans-  his own app ‘BeingInTouch’ which has a number of categories, like ‘Being in Touch’, ‘Khandaan’, ‘Being Human Jobs’, ‘Fan Wall’, ‘About’- basically all the information about the star in one place.

The latest addition to his app is the ‘Audition’ section where his fans can see what all roles are available for his upcoming ventures and can apply for the same. The actor made an announcement about this “gift” to his fans in a video that he uploaded on Twitter, with the caption:

“A special gift to the #BeingInTouch Family – now I will be scouting for talent on the #BeingInTouch app”

Being a celebrity, no matter how glamorous it looks, isn’t exactly the world’s easiest job, especially when you don’t have any guiding figure in the film industry.

Most of these superstars, who serve as an inspiration for most of us, weren’t always this rich or famous. Most of them were not born with a silver spoon in their mouth and thus, they too had to resort to doing jobs, like the rest of us. While some had pretty normal jobs in their younger years, some of them had rather unusual and surprising jobs before they made it big.

Check out our list of odd celebrity jobs to see the typical, the unexpected, and the downright unbelievable.

Brad Pitt

Brad was studying journalism when he realized his passion for acting. But since dropping out of college doesn’t always turn out for the best, the actor chauffeured strippers in a limo for a while. And that’s not all; he also was s mascot for a fast food chain called El Pollo Loco and wore a chicken costume while giving out flyers.

“My job was to drive them to bachelor parties and things,” he told in an interview. “I’d pick them up, and at the gig I’d collect the money, play the bad Prince tapes and catch the girls’ clothes.”

Jay Z

Don’t be inspired by this one.

Jay Z was a drug dealer. He has never hidden his past and in fact, admits that it helped him become business savvy. He explained in an interview, “I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer. To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up.”

Well, we are just glad that he left this aspect of his past, for good.

Hugh Jackman

This handsome hunk was previously a Physical Education teacher at a school in England. But that’s pretty normal, right?

His second job, however, was that of a professional clown. He revealed in an interview,

“I was Coco the Clown and I had no magic tricks and I remember a six-year-old standing up at a party saying ‘Mummy this clown is terrible, he doesn’t know any tricks’ – and he was right.’ “

In case you find it too hard to believe, have a look at this proof that he tweeted.

Johnny Depp

He is an excellent actor but at his previous jobs, he was terrible.

For a while, he was a telemarketer for pens. (Yes, that’s apparently a thing.) But he was so ashamed of the “scam” that he was pulling people into, that he started pleading his customers to back out.

After that, he moved on to become a mechanic but as fate had it, that didn’t work out for this superstar either.

He recalled in an interview, ”I changed all the tires on this guy’s car, did the alignment, put the wheels back on, pulled it down, guy got in, and his left rear wheel shot off the vehicle. I was asked to leave, needless to say.”

Hollywood Celebrities With Surprising Previous Jobs© Reuters

Channing Tatum

Performing the role of a stripper in a movie is not that unusual, but Channing Tatum has had some practice in real life. When he was about 19 years old, the actor used to perform in a strip club because, as he puts it, he was “young and dumb and stupid and just wanted to make some money.” He did it for whole eight months before it became too much to handle.

In case you are interested in watching him perform, here’s a video:

Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone had his share of bad days before his acting career took off. But one of the lowest points of his life was when he had to clean out lion cages at the Central Park Zoo for $1.12 an hour. He even made an appearance in an adult film called ‘The Party at Kitty and Stud’s’.

So the next time you feel bad about your job, think of him and take inspiration for not giving up.

Hollywood Celebrities With Surprising Previous Jobs© Reuters

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew used to live in Australia an exchange student and therefore had to struggle pretty hard to make ends meet. He worked as a chicken coop cleaner, a place where most of us won’t be able to stay for a minute. But since that didn’t pay much, he also had to wash dishes for some extra cash.

Hollywood Celebrities With Surprising Previous Jobs© Reuters

George Clooney

Before he found fame, George Clooney did a few low-paid jobs and got fired from all of them. He once worked at cutting tobacco, sold door-to-door insurance and even worked in a ladies’ shoe shop.

He revealed in an interview: “I had a lot of rotten jobs. I sold insurance door-to-door, but it didn’t work out well. The first day I sold one (policy) and the guy died.”

Hollywood Celebrities With Surprising Previous Jobs© Reuters

Jon Bon Jovi

We have never heard of this one before but Bon Jovi was a Christmas decoration maker. Before becoming the world famous rockstar that he is, he used to assemble Christmas decorations and even used to mopp up the floor as a janitor. He obviously wasn’t happy with these jobs and started relentlessly handing out demos until one DJ agreed to start playing the track Runaway.

Hollywood Celebrities With Surprising Previous Jobs© Reuters

Patrick Dempsey

McDreamy, as he is lovingly called by his female fans, was always good with his hands, way before he did a stint as a doctor in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. The actor was once a professional juggler. In fact, his rare yet excellent juggling skills got him a part on the ABC show ‘Overnight Success’.

Yesterday marked the first anniversary of the unfortunate Uri terror attack. In 2016, 19 soldiers were killed in an early morning attack by Pakistani terrorists in J&K’s town of Uri. Eleven days later, India responded with what we can call as one of the most sophisticated and covert military operations ever. On September 29, Indian Army’s Special Forces carried out “surgical strikes” on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Since the day went down as one of the most historic days in our country, in terms of establishing a strong position for itself, it was highly likely that someday a Bollywood director would turn it into a film. And Ronnie Screwvala grabbed this opportunity, just in time by announcing a film based on the Uri Attacks. Although not much has been revealed about the cast, the lead actor however, has been finalized and it is none other than Vicky Kaushal.

Ronnie, who has produced/co-produced films like ‘A Wednesday’, ‘Udaan’, ‘Dev-D’ and ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ is of the view that “URI is the incredible story of Indians coming together.” He further added, “Today we are a confident, aggressive and new age India – standing up for itself in every way and on the world stage. With this one single military action, we changed the fabric of our border politics forever and that became a watershed moment in our political history.”

The movie would have Aditya Dhar behind the direction wheel. Talking about the plot of the movie, Dhar said, “This is the story of what happened in those 11 days. It’s an honor and very reassuring to be backed by Ronnie Screwvala and to execute on this vision and what we believe is an engaging and thrilling story inspired by this true life incident.”

Vicky, who started with small roles in movies like ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’ and ‘Bombay Velvet’, got fame for his role in the award-winning movie ‘Masaan’. After bagging the lead role of commander-in-chief in ‘Uri’, he is on cloud nine, “When this film came to me and we had this discussion, I was really thrilled and kicked about it because this is one story that I feel that everyone needs to know. One of the fantastic army operations that the Indian army has conducted and with great efficiency. I also feel it is a great opportunity and also a responsibility for all of us to portray this story.”

To be able to do justice to his role in ‘Uri’, Vicky will undergo paramilitary training for a month to bulk up before the shoot of the film.

The shooting of the film will begin early next year after Vicky wraps up shooting for his upcoming movie ‘Raazi’ in which he’s paired opposite Alia Bhatt.

The release of ‘Uri’ is scheduled for the month of September 2018.

Blake Lively has been trying to make her mark in the movie industry and has only been moderately successful. Though some of her films did not fare very well at the box office, she has earned appreciation for her performances. It could be because she has been highly selective in her choice of roles and has starred only in a handful of movies, with her last movie being a horror, ‘The Shallows’.

However, with her upcoming movie, things might start to look upwards.

In her latest movie, ‘All I See Is You’ which is a psychological drama, Lively stars as a blind woman ‘Gina’ who eventually regains her vision as well as her independence. Blinded as a child in a nearly fatal car accident, Gina depends on her husband (played by James Clarke) for everything and that appears to make their relationship even stronger.

The new trailer starts with a scene of Gina hanging onto James’ arm as they move their way through crowds which shows how much she depends on him. But when Gina is given the opportunity to undergo an operation and regain her vision, their life and relationship turn around as Gina now sees the world from a new perspective (and with a new platinum blonde hairstyle), something which James finds threatening. He seems to be disconnected from his wife and for unknown reasons grows to be suspicious of her.

At one point you might think it’s a romantic movie of sorts which will most probably end in a happy ending. However, the mood of the trailer soon turns dark and intense, with trippy and rather confusing shots of darkened clubs and angry looks, almost making it look like it will end with a murder.

Directed and co-written by Marc Foster, the movie co-stars Yvonne Strahovski, Danny Huston, Ahna O’Reilly and Wes Chatham. In an interview, Forster told how he toyed with the use of our five senses while filming, experimenting ways to portray Gina’s life before surgery.

He said, “When I make a film, my visuals are always guided by the motivation of both the character and the story. In this case, I wanted to find a way to tell a story without the limitations of traditional narrative devices, where I could literally embody a painter and create innovative and fluid visuals.”

Blake, who shared the trailer in a very excited Instagram post, also talked about the twisted plot of the movie in an interview, “Gina’s husband appreciates her. It seems like he doesn’t mind that she has this condition that makes her rely on him. But what you learn is it goes beyond the fact that he doesn’t mind. It becomes an obsessive love story. You realize it’s a codependency. And when the codependency no longer exists, it can create fractures.”

🎉SWIPE TO WATCH THE FULL TRAILER. I’m SðŸ‘?excited to share this with you.🥂This is one of my favorite movies I’ve ever been a part of. â?¤ï¸? Link in bio for the real, non insta version of the trailer, the way it’s supposed to be seen 💕😎

“All I See Is You” was screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival but the film is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 27th 2017. The trailer has definitely got us hooked and we can’t wait for October to arrive.

Sep 152017

If we take into consideration all the horror movies that have hit the box office, 2017 has been a rather scary year. Especially since ‘It’ came out and changed the horror-movie game for good, people’s expectations have gone a notch further.

Fictional horror stories- whether in form of podcasts, shows or movies, have the ability of giving one nightmare for weeks. However real-life horror stories are a different game altogether because it’s always scarier knowing that real people experienced something so unreal.

But if that’s the kind of thing that excites you and you are willing to sacrifice your sleep, then here’s some good (or scary) news for you. Amazon Prime is here with its latest original programming venture, ‘Lore’.

‘Lore' Is A New Horror Show That Will Scare the Hell Out of You© Amazon

‘Lore’ originally, is one of the scariest and award-winning podcasts that talks about real-life scary stories and according to its website; it “exposes the darker side of history, exploring the creatures, people, and places of our wildest nightmares.”

The show will include 6 episodes for now and will be released on just the right day and date- Friday the 13th (of October); just in time for Halloween. It’ll blend together “dramatic scenes, animation, archive, and narration and reveal how our horror legends – such as vampires, werewolves, and body snatchers – are rooted in truth.” Since the executive producers of ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘The X-Files’ are behind this anthology series, expectations are at an all time high.

The trailer has definitely got us hooked as the series combines documentary footage, narration, and cinematic scenes to explore the most legendary horror myths. From what we can make out, it will feature the tale of a boy who has been given a living doll, a family whose home is inhabited by a spirit from the other side and a village that hunts for a murderous creature.

In case October feels too far, you should go ahead and listen to the podcast. Launched in 2015, the podcast averages 5 million monthly listeners and rightly so, as the narrator has the ability to weave actual accounts of unsolved mysteries together with regional mythology to tell deeply unsettling supernatural stories.
