Kumki Movie Review

Kumki is the launchpad of veteran actor Prabhu’s son and legendary Tamil star Sivaji Ganeshan’s son Vikram Prabhu. His first movie is directed by Prabhu Solomon of superhit Mynaa fame. The movie is produced by Thirupathi Brothers.

Expectations:There will always be a burden of high expectations when a kid of a famous actor enter films. People curiously observe whether the newbie is capable of carrying forward the legacy left by his/her star parent. It is the same case for Vikram Prabhu. In case of Lakshmi Menon, who won a lot of praise for her performance in this year hit film Sundarapandian, the actress wants to be successful again. When it comes to Prabhu Solomon, people are not expecting a commercial potboiler rather a good story, which he is known for, and that makes Vikram to showcase his acting talent. Last but not least, the film is produced by Thirupathi Brothers (N Subhash Chandra Bose and N Lingusamy), who have given quite a few hit films. So, let us see what the team has to offer.

Boman (Vikram Prabhu), a mahout, has a special bonding with his tamed elephant Manikkam. Situation makes him to go to a village to save the place from a wild elephant. Here he comes across, Alli played by Lakshmi Menon and they fall for each other. The remaining part should be seen on-screen. The story of the film is simple but the director has executed in such a manner that audience would witness the hard work put by the entire team in every frame. Though the movie is dragging at parts, the subject makes the it engaging affair. However, the story does not have twists or turns and flows with out surprising you a lot of time. Prabhu Solomon has taken the best out of his team. Be it from his actors or his technicians, the director’s vision for the nativity is seen in the film. However, the script loses grip in a few places and he could have handled the script part in a better way.

Akshay’s Khiladi 786 (7 days) first week collection at Box Office

Hindi movie Khiladi 786 starring Akshay Kumar and Asin in leads has surpassed Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic Box Office in India in the first week. But it is absolutely not a bad performance also. The much-hyped masala entertainer has done wonderful business at single screens across the country, but it shared its larger portion of its collection with Aamir Khan’s last week release Talaash in the multiplexes.

Barring Joker, Akshay Kumar has scored three big hits Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore and OMG! Oh My God in 2012. This huge success had created a lot of hype around his Khiladi 786, which released in 2,786 screens in the country on December 7. Besides this, Khiladi 786 also marks his comeback to action as well as Khiladi series after 12 years. The audiences were very curious to watch the movie.

Khiladi 786 opened to a very good response at single screens, where it registered an average of 90% occupancy. But it had average footfalls in the multiplexes audience across the country. The movie witnessed growth in its collection on the following days, but it was not up to the expected level.

Akshay Kumar and Asin starrer movie, which was affected by Talaash, raked in Rs 34.30 cr at the domestic Box Office in the first weekend. Its breakup is Rs 10.40 cr on Fri, Rs 11.15 cr on Sat and Rs 12.75 cr on Sun. The film was expected to cross Rs 50 crore mark at the desi collection centres, but it failed to do so.

Khiladi 786 witnessed a drop of 50% in its business on Monday. And the masala entertainer continued to drop at the desi collection centres on the following days. The movie added Rs 52.55 crores nett at the desi Box Office in the first week. Its weekdays’ breakup is Rs 5.50 cr on Mon, Rs 4.9 cr on Tue, Rs 4.1 on Wed and Rs 3.90 cr on Thu.

However, the makers of Khiladi 786, which bagged mixed reviews from film critics, had a huge amount of promotions. Besides promoting it on TV, Akshay Kumar and Asin had also visited several metros for its publicity. But both promotions and hype surrounding the movie have failed to yield good results.

Three years after the release of Ye Maaya Chesave, Gautham Menon’s next Telugu venture Yeto Vellipoyindi Manasu has hit the marquee today. It is yet another good family entertainer and the director once again tries to entertain you with a fresh and young love story, which many of us can relate to our real life.

Yeto Vellipoyindi Manasu is an interesting romance drama and the chemistry between Nani and Samantha is the main highlight of the movie. Ilayaraja’s melodious music, Gautham’s enchanting story and dialogues, MS Prabhu’s wonderful cinematography, amazing choreography of songs and beautiful locales are its other attractions.

The movie revolves around the story of a middle class guy and a rich girl. Director Gautham Menon narrates their love story in three different phases of life – school, college and life after that. The director has a very good grip over the happening on the screens. The first half of the movie is bit interesting, but in the second half, the viewers feel stuck somewhere in the middle as a few sentimental sequences drag. But the climax is amazing and it should be watched on screen.

Nitya (Samanta) and Varun (Nani) fall in love in the school days and break up. They reunite in the college days and break up again on some reason. They unite again but their ways go apart while shaping up their career. Whether they succeed in their love or break up in moulding their career due to their family obligations? This must be seen onscreen.

The entire film appears to be bits and pieces. Yes, it is hard to edit the film and the editor of the film too could not join the film and jumped at many scenes leaving the audiences in quandary and grope in dark.

Of all the artists, it is Samanta who grabs the attention of the audiences most. Whether it is in a school girl, or as a college girl or a most-learned adult who is working as a social-worker, she appears very glamorous. At the same time, she has given a performance with complete maturity, especially in the climax.

Nani has also given a realistic performance. His character is quite convincing at every stage. However, Samanta’s acting talent appears high at all these moments. Krishnudu makes the film live whenever he appears on screen. The dialogues penned for his character are witty and they are just one-liners yet convincing and comical. Other artists have also done complete justice to their characters.

Ilaiyaraja’s music and background score are the main highlights in the technical front. He has composed eight melodious tracks. Almost every song will impress you. MS Prabhu’s picturisation in song sequences is very good. He has captured some of the most beautiful locales.

Gautham’s dialogues are also sure to rock. The screenplay is not so tight and the slow paced narration tests audiences’ patience.

Overall, Yeto Vellipoyindi Manasu has superb performance by Nani and Samantha. But its dragging narration kills the viewers’ interest.

Aamir’s Talaash (14 days) second week collection at Box Office

Hindi movie Talaash starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee in leads, has done good business at Indian Box Office in the second week. Despite facing tough competition from new release Khiladi 786, the psychological suspense thriller has added a good numbers to its 14-day total collection.

Trade experts had predicted that Khiladi 786, which released in 2,785 screens in the country on December 7, would send down the collection of Talaash. As expected, it did affect its business in single screens across the country. But Talaash managed to do very good collection in multiplexes, which the former had a bad time.

Talaash, which had collected Rs 68.07 crores at the desi Box Office in the first week, witnessed 70% drop in its collection in the second week. The movie collected Rs 11.34 crore nett at the Box Office in the second weekend. On the weekdays, it raked in Rs 5.41 crores taking its 14 day total to Rs 84.82 crores nett. Its second week breakup is Rs 2.40 cr on Fri, Rs 4.14 cr on Sat, Rs 4.80 cr on Sun, Rs 1.51 cr on Mon, Rs 1.41 cr on Tue, Rs 1.26 cr on Wed and Rs 1.23 cr on Thu.

However, the Aamir-Kareena-Rani starrer has failed to surpass Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic Box Office in the second week. Trade experts say that Talaash would cross this mark in the third weekend as there are no new releases this Friday.

New Delhi: Bigg Boss has added a new twist to the Colors’ TV reality show with the mid-week eviction. Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ has been ousted from the house on Wednesday. All the female contestants are safe inside the house, while male contestants like Niketan Madhok, Imam Siddique, Rajev Paul, Santosh Shukla and Vishal Karwal have been nominated for next round of eviction.

Dinesh Lal Yadav, Santosh Shukla, Delnaaz Irani and Sana Khan were nominated for the eviction. On 66th day, Bigg Boss asked them to pack their belongings and move to the activity area. As they came the area, in the absence of host Salman Khan, Bigg Boss simply whisked Dinesh Lal Yadav out of the house.

Nirahua entered the Bigg Boss 6 house at the beginning of the show and he was evicted from the house in the first week. The Bhojpuri actor re-entered the show as a wild card entry, when the show had two houses like modern and padoshi ghar. After staying in Padoshi ghar for a few weeks, he was once again shifted back to modern house.
