Jamie Dornan has said he is getting “too old” for the “Fifty Shades” franchise

jamie dornan

Jamie Dornan has said he is getting “too old” for the “Fifty Shades” franchise. The 35-year-old actor, who plays billionaire BDSM addict in the film based on the popular book series of the same name by E L James, told Lorraine Kelly on her show that the third film would be the “last one”, E! News reported.

“I don’t think there’s any…I mean there’s no other books. (E L James) wrote the first two books again from Christian’s perspective, but I guess we’ve already seen… “We’ve done those films, the same story, so they won’t do that again. Unless Erica keeps writing, but Dakota (Johnson) and I are… Particularly me, I’m gettin’ too old for… For this,” Dornan said. The actor said he likes how his character has grown over the course of time. “I think I like him more now than I did in the first movie.

I think he’s gone through quite a big change in his way and how he is with people. He’s opened up a lot by Anna and I think he’s just a better version of himself,” Dornan said. The last installment in the franchise, “Fifty Shades Freed”, releases on February 9.

Actor Sumeet Vyas, who will soon be seen in upcoming web series “Official CEOgiri”, says he does not believe in distinguishing between the digital platform and the silver screens

sumeet vyas

Actor Sumeet Vyas, who will soon be seen in upcoming web series “Official CEOgiri”, says he does not believe in distinguishing between the digital platform and the silver screen.

“I personally, as an actor, don’t see any difference at all. The effort, which I need to put in a film, is the same effort I put in for any other medium. The difference is the medium through which the story is getting told and that’s it,” the actor, who also appeared in films like “English Vinglish”, “Parched”, “Ribbon”, told IANS here.

“As an actor, you don’t really think if it is a film or a web series you are acting for. You just act and give your 100 per cent.”

“Yeah, maybe the food is slightly better on film sets,” quipped the actor, who will soon be seen in Sonam Kapoor-starrer “Veere Di Wedding”.

“Official CEOgiri” is the second season of the popular web-series “Official Chukyagiri”. The show started in 2016 where the world of the show was presented through the perspective of Spandan Chukya, a hopeful intern from a small town, who has come to Mumbai hoping to make it in the city of dreams.

After the success of its first season, the digital platform Arre is coming back with the new season of the show where the plot revolves around an elusive CEO of the office named D, essayed by Sumeet.

“I am particularly excited about playing a character like D – someone who is deeply flawed and emotionally complex but also charming and suave. I look forward to the challenge ahead and can’t wait to see how it all turns out,” said Sumeet.

“In the second season I shot for 10 days, it was a great shoot with a great team,” he added.

The new series also features Aahana Kumra, Gopal Dutt, Sunny Kaushal, and Anand Tiwari along with by Eisha Chopra and Pranay Manchanda.

The show will be available for viewing on Arre app and it’s all the social media platform and its official website from the second week of February.

Akshay Kumar is proud of his coming film “Pad Man” — a film highlighting awareness on menstrual hygiene. The actor says he always wanted to support socially relevant cinema, but couldn’t due to lack of funds

akshay kumar

Akshay Kumar is proud of his coming film “Pad Man” — a film highlighting awareness on menstrual hygiene. The actor says he always wanted to support socially relevant cinema, but couldn’t due to lack of funds.

The actor also added that there isn’t a single commercial film on sanitary pads, not even in Hollywood, as people shy away from discussing the topic in public.

“I always wanted to work and make such films but I was not a producer during that time. I didn’t have enough money, but now I can. My wife told me about Arunachalam Muruganantham and then we met R. Balki. So we thought about making this movie,” Akshay said while promoting “Pad Man” here on Monday.

“Even Hollywood does not have a single film on sanitary pads or menstrual hygiene. People always make documentaries but they don’t want to make commercial films because they want to shy away from the issue. We have tried to do that,” he added.

Akshay’s “Pad Man” — which marks his wife Twinkle Khanna’s maiden production venture — tells the story of a real-life superhero who invented a low-cost sanitary pad manufacturing machine to bring a menstrual hygiene revolution for women.

The film is based on a short story from Twinkle’s book “The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad”. The story is inspired from the life of Muruganantham, a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who revolutionised the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating the low-cost sanitary napkins machine.

Its unique story, inspiring message and Akshay’s portrayal — once again — as a common man’s hero, has kept the anticipation level high for the R. Balki directorial, which also features Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.

Talking about the film, Akshay said: “People are talking about the issue. The other day I was sitting in my vanity van and I heard two-three guys discuss the film. Have you seen men discuss menstrual hygiene?”

While many people, including Bollywood stars, are hailing the film, there are some who are criticising Akshay for talking about the issue in the open.

“When I see social media, I see two-three people saying ‘Akshay, bhai kya kar rahe ho aap? (what are you doing brother?)’, or ‘You are holding a sanitary pad. It is a sin’. Imagine some people think holding a sanitary pad is a sin.

“But at least now they are discussing, and there will be a day when it will change and it is high time it should change. I would request everyone to write about it as a lot of things can change if you write about it. India needs this change.”

Were there any disagreements on the sets while working with Twinkle?

“No, there were no disagreements. She didn’t get upset on anything.”

Muruganantham, who was also a part of the press meet, expressed his views on the film made on his endeavour.

“I never thought a film will be made on my life and my work. When I used to say the word ‘menstruation’, people used to beat me up. Who would have thought that there would be a time when a film will be made on my life?”

The film is slated to open in India on Friday.

“Lady Bird” director Greta Gerwig feels campaigns like #MeToo are bringing change in Hollywood

lady bird

“Lady Bird” director Greta Gerwig feels campaigns like #MeToo are bringing change in Hollywood.

These have been a seismic few months for women in the film industry. The allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein and others have led to the most positive kind of backlash: Through the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, and the 50/50 by 2020 initiative, which aims to have male-female parity in the business world in two years.

“I think it’s going to shift much more quickly now,” theguardian.com quoted Gerwig as saying.

She added: “When studios are looking to hire now, they’ll ask themselves — as they rightly should — ‘Is there a woman who is qualified for this job?’ That’s tremendously important. And again, if I were running a studio, I would think that it’s just good business. Because I look at the audience response to films made by women about women that have done incredibly well and I’d say, ‘Well, that’s a reason right off the bat.'”

As for whether there are any plans for a coordinated protest at this year’s Oscars, in line with the black gowns at the Golden Globes or white roses at the Grammys, both orchestrated by the Time’s Up organisers, Gerwig is unsure, reports theguardian.com.

“I am not aware of a dress code,” she said.

But if there is any, she is in: “I’m in awe of the people who are collectively working on this.”

The 90th Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on March 4 at the Dolby Theatre here. It will be aired in India live on Star Movies and Star Movies Select on March 5.

“Sex and the City” star Kim Cattrall’s brother Christopher has been found dead hours after she made an appeal over him going missing.

After posting missing persons posters for her brother Christopher Cattrall on social media on Saturday, Kim on Sunday announced that he had unexpectedly died at 55. A spokesperson for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the death, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

There was no word from Christopher since January 30, according to a missing persons poster that the “Sex and the City” star posted.

R Balki says he wrote Pad Man script while Twinkle Khanna was writing a short inspired by Arunachalam Muruganantham, although they are distinct adaptations

Even as fans await Akshay Kumar’s upcoming biographical drama Pad Man with anticipation, cinephiles continue to harbour the notion that the film is a cinematic adaptation of a leaf off Twinkle Khanna’s latest book. However, director R Balki tells mid-day that he wasn’t abreast with Khanna’s short story on the same subject when she requested him to draft a script for a cinematic outing.

R. Balki

Social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganthanam, who created a low-cost sanitary napkin-making machine, had caught the attention of Khanna. “Twinkle had met Muru [Muruganthanam] and she, along with Akshay, told me that they wanted to make a film on the man,” says Balki. Given that the trio was involved in conversation with Muruganthanam as part of research for the film, Khanna decided to pen her short story for the book The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad, simultaneously.

Muruganantham
Muruganantham

“So, the book and the script were written at the same time. I didn’t know what Twinkle was writing, and she didn’t interfere with the script. Yes, we were having discussions about the man, but, I hadn’t read the book and she didn’t have a clue about the script. Surprisingly, we both finished writing at the same time.” The exercise, as Balki calls it, made for an interesting observation for Khanna and him. “It is like having two different adaptations of the same man’s life. One was literary, the other, cinematic.”

However, the filmmaker asserts that his script, and hence the film, is also a reflection of Khanna’s vision of the man. “Making a film on this person is an opportunity I didn’t want to miss.”
